The LATEST official update is Android 4.2.2. Use a custom rom if you want KitKat
BTW whats the point of roting again? It takes not longer than 5 minutes lol

I know that the latest is android 4.2.2 but before I tried checking for update there was a notification saying software update available
So if I wanted to do so software update that was promoted for should I unroot using supersu then rooting phone again the same method I rooted first time or there is another way

Ok I know that but there was a software update notification then I clicked it and it said cant install update device is modified so can I install updates without unrooting and if I have to unroot how can I unroot and then root again

Read this. He have explained how to update without rooting as well as how to unroot.
Kindly press thanks if i helped.

[Q] Problem upgrading to OTA 8.6.5.21

Hello,
I have an ASUS Transformer rooted with RazorClaw and i have installed RecoveryInstaller. My actual firmware is an Europeen version v8.6.5.19.
When i want to upgrade firmware with OTA from 8.6.5.19 to 8.6.5.21, the firmware is downloaded, then the device reboot, begin the upgrade then stop with a graphic "!" without error message.
Somebody has an idea about the problem ?
Must i uninstall RecoveryInstaller, and if it's that, how ?
Thank's
The update failed because you have cwm recovery. You can't just deleted RecovryInstaller.
I've heard peoples have success using OTA root keeper to update.
Just be careful or you'll loose root

No sucess with the Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper here.

OTA rootkeeper will only help for keeping root after OTA update.
It will not help you with succeeding the update.

Yes you're correct. For him to successfully get OTA update he need to go back to stock recovery or better yet jsut flash the latest update via CWM recovery.

The problem is that i'm french.
Do you think that restoring an US stock recovery isn't dangerous for my tablett ?
I think tour Tab will have wrongs parameters...
Why do you want to set an US version ?
And a question more, why did you root your tab and stay with factory ROM ?

Response n° 1 : I don't want to "set an US version", on the contrary, but i'm not able to find a french version. If you know where i can find the good one, i will be happy !!
response n°2 : I want to stay with factory ROM to have OTA automatically, and also because changing manualy ROM with a custom ROM reset all my device, if i am not wrong, and i don't want to re-install all my programs.
Installing a Custom ROM doesn't wipe your data and apps from the tab. Effectivelly, you're wrong.
Also, Many Custom ROM has OTA.
For example, my Tab run Revolver and with Revolver Parts (from the market) I receive OTA update.
Updated many times, no loss of data or apps.
You should do it, Tab working well... really.
It's a good news for me !! I thought the firmware update with a custom ROM erase all on the device.
Thank's very much !!!
De nada ...

[Q] complete procedure for root/unroot for samsung galaxt tab2 p3100

Can anyone please help me in rooting samsung tab2 p3100. I am new to this root method can i get detail procedure for that.
My device : Samsung tab2 p3100 (India)
Android : 4.1.1 (already in the tab, not updated)
Baseband : P3100DDCLK1
Is this root reversible so that my warranty of tab is not affected and how can i unroot.
Rooting procedure can be found in my guide (link in signature). It's easy to unroot if you don't mind wiping data.
Posted from my Fascinate using XDA Premium
To remove Root:
This Root Remover has been tested with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" P3100 (tested on jellybean)
REQUIREMENT: A rooted Tab 2.
•After you download this file, move it the root of your external SD card( /mnt/extSdCard ). This is the micro sdcard you insert in tablet slot. Your /mnt/sdcard folder is internal memory (not recognized in CWM recovery).
•Reboot into CWM (recovery) using Quick Boot app or
•Power OFF your tablet, disconnect from computer and restart in recovery (CWM) by pushing and holding POWER & Volume DOWN/LEFT buttons at same time. When Samsung Tab 2 logo appears, you can release power button but continue holding volume button for a few more seconds. Note: If you've done this on other Samsung devices, you will notice that it takes longer before blue CWM v5.5.0.4 text appears ... just be patient.
•Once you are in recovery, use volume button (UP/DOWN/LEFT OR RIGHT) to move around and POWER button to select an option.
Select install zip from sdcard. Choose Root_Remover file you already copied to root of sdcard.
When unrooting is finished, choose reboot system now from CWM menu.
NOTE-By downloading and using this file you understand and agree that you bear all responsibility for the use and anything it may do to your tablet.
DOWNLOAD-
Root_Remover.zip (h--p://www.mediafire.com/?ty54o6lah25w41d)
Replace (--) with tt.
For Root (tested on jellybean):
Use chainfire root its d best i have it.
U can google it or find it on xda search.
Dont use the above method to remove the chainfire root as it can be easily removed from its modified superuser application but it works as any other root and is superb!
Enjoy,
Kunal
Dont forget to hit the thanks button!!

Hey amit i have edited the link in my post n its now working. Yeah dats the correct package use odin to flash it. Dont use this root remover on cf autoroot. Cf autoroot has the option to completely remove the cf root in its own menu. After u have rooted your device, use a root checker(available on play store for free) to check that you device is fully rooted. When u root or flash a custom rom or do anything fishy with ur device using odin, ur warranty gets void as there is a counter in the tab 2 which keeps a record of how many times u have flashed ur firmware wid a custom rom or rooted it or done something fishy. To get your warranty back, use the TriangleAway app (another miracle by chainfire) to reset the flash counter to zero which means u get ur warranty back. Its paid on playstore but is free on his xda page. It only works if ur device is rooted. Nd yes u can move apps to sd after rooting.
Good luck n happy flashing

unrooting problem
Kunal
As you said, I unrooted my tab.
Earlier, I was using official stock 4.1.1
Then I rooted my phone and updated it to cm10 nightly
But that cfw was not good enough (no offense)
To go back to my old stock, I restored my stock which I backedup while updating to cfw via rom manager
Now I wanted to unroot and used the app advised by you
But now when I'm tryin to update my tab using OTA by going under Software Update option in Settings, it is saying following message:
YOUR DEVICE HAS BEEN MODIFIED. SOFTWARE UPDATES ARE NOT AVAILABLE
how to fix this?
Factory reset should fix the issue.

Hey man, sorry for extremely late reply.
To fix this (Do this after unroot only) just connect your tab to kies and then it should recognize your tab and from there you can do the update and after the update you can follow the same root method to root your device. Good luck
PS-I was not able to perform the ota update because of the same problem and used kies to do the same.

Root your device using CF-Autoroot.
Install Triangle Away from the play store. Run that to reset your custom binary counter.
Reboot.
Now use the built-in SuperSU to disable SU. Now reboot again.
Settings/About Device/Status should now show "Device status: official".
Note that if you get any OTA update it's very likely to remove root status.
If you need to use root access for anything, use SuperSU to unhide (re-enable) su and you should be fine. The device may change back to "Device status: Custom", but disabling su again will reset it after a reboot.
Well regarding unlocking bootloader stuff and ota updates,
if u have really decided to root your tab then you should say but to sammy stock rom , I mean there are more beautiful roms available with features google hasnt even put in 4.3 yet. My advice , if u really want to root , dont use stock samsun rom wid it. Otherwise I dont see the point in rooting and waiting for ota updates.
Unrooting. Unrooting becomes easier once you have rooted ur device once. Only an addition will be using triangle away to reset the flash counter, boot up wid ur stock rom and flash counter reset, ur device will be in warranty again.
I hope that helped.
I am not thinking about using a custom rom because for that i will have to unlock my bootloader and my warranty goes , because all ways of relocking the bootloader have one dis-advantage - after the process it will show re-locked in the stock recovery !!
So just thinking of rooting at the moment .....

Yes, since you'll lose superuser when the OTA is pushed, so you'll have to go through it all over again if you don't wait.
Hopefully you'll get 4.2.2 soon. Us here in the USA never got 4.1.2 so I know how you feel being forced to wait.

does this method really work? like will the success rate be a 100%? as I am also waiting for the 4.2.2 update that Samsung Philippines will be pushing anytime soon.
one more thing. every time I do OTA updates, do I need to re-root my tab again after the process in order to gain superuser rights again?

And one more thing before you install a OTA update you will have to

But dont worry , with cf auto root you can root your device in 30 secs , and also un-root the device in less than 1 min !!

For the record i too got the 4.2.2 firmware . I dont keep a pass on my screen because its sometimes tiring to enter it everytime i want to open my tab. Instead i lock the apps that i dont want people to see.
And yeah i agree samsung has not done much good with the 4.2.2 update , be it the large fonts or the notification bar ... But yeah the increased ram and the new customizations in its system apps and launcher are surely some good reasons to update the tab to 4.2.2 !!

If you don't have xposed framework installed, wiping cache from stock recovery might help. Or try to update using Kies 3, not via OTA.
But remember, you might lose root, and if you got Knox 0x0 still, there might be no way to root again without triggering KNOX flag, if samsung pushes some patched kernel update and you install it.
+1 to what Spere said.
I root every android device that I own and my #1 rule is never actively look for OTA updates after rooting. There's too much risk of problems. If updates come out, wait for factory images of the update to be posted and let more experienced users or developers test things first.

Root + OTA = a really, really bad idea. The first rule of Rooting, after 'RTFM', is 'DO NOT INSTALL OTA UPDATES.'

Note Pro 12.2 P900 rooted with stock rom
Guys, thanks for all the info you provide here. I'm a long time follower, first time poster and need some help.
I've recently rooted my new note pro 12.2 model P900 using chainfire's autoroot. I used ODIN and the image provided in chainfires zip file... root was successful. I did not flash a new ROM nor do I want one. I am probably in the minority, but all I wanted was root just to delete the bloatware. I am not interested in customs mods or ROMs. I want to stay on stock Samsung firmware, just minus bloat. I'm an operating system purist... I feel more comfortable with the stock/official op system.
I tripped knox, but I suppose I don't care. Would be great if eventually it can be reset one day. But whatever
I know you guys have said root + OTA update is a bad idea.... apparent I won't be able to do it anyway. I get that error message when I check for an OTA update from Samsung saying my device has been modified.
My question is how can I get the USA version of the current stock firmware and then the future versions of any updates FROM A TRUSTED SOURCE? Doesn't seem like I can get it from Samsung anymore . I'm afraid that if I just download a 1.5gb zip file from some fileserver on the Web I may get something that's not quite legit.
Also, is it because I am rooted, or because I tripped knox, or because I deleted stock apps that I get that message during the OTA check I tried to run?
Thank you!

Both http://www.sammobile.com/ and http://samsung-updates.com/ are reliable sources. I haven't checked if they actually have the firmware, though.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk 2
If you have changed the recovery or the structure of the system (for example removed syatem apps) the OTA will fail.
If you flash the stock recovery and reset or reflash a stock rom the OTA will complete and you will lose root

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S5 on Verizon stuck on 4.4.2? Root problems....

Hi! I'm new here... Hope I'm in the right place, but I've been having problems with my GS5. I rooted it using towelroot about 3 months ago which was successful, then a Verizon system software update was pushed and installed to my phone, and that somehow installed fine, but now root checker says my phone isn't rooted and towelroot says my phone isn't supported... For months now my phone has been trying to install the 4.4.4 update with no luck, when it reboots and is in the middle of installing with the little android dude with his chest open, it says 'error'. Has there been a fix or way around this? Any way I can completely factory wipe everything?

Verizon may of patched the towelroot exploit with the new update. Have you tried posting this in the VZW S5 forums?
From my CM11 S3
Towel root is dead for firmwares newer than June 2014. You can try chainfire for root. If t he 4.4.4 firmware isn't updating, try flashing with Odin.

Thanks for chiming in but I basically said that already. There's no need to duplicate it. You won't be able to run supersu for root as you can't flash any zip files on a locked bootloader

I explained a different perspective and I didn't question what you said. Let's just leave it at that

Its too bad there is not a way to block any updates.. These companies want to control all we see and do on our devices. I have made the decision to dump my smart phone.I am going to get a flip phone and only use for phone calls.
