[Q] complete procedure for root/unroot for samsung galaxt tab2 p3100 - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone please help me in rooting samsung tab2 p3100. I am new to this root method can i get detail procedure for that.
My device : Samsung tab2 p3100 (India)
Android : 4.1.1 (already in the tab, not updated)
Baseband : P3100DDCLK1
Is this root reversible so that my warranty of tab is not affected and how can i unroot.

Rooting procedure can be found in my guide (link in signature). It's easy to unroot if you don't mind wiping data.

To remove Root:
This Root Remover has been tested with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7" P3100 (tested on jellybean)
REQUIREMENT: A rooted Tab 2.
•After you download this file, move it the root of your external SD card( /mnt/extSdCard ). This is the micro sdcard you insert in tablet slot. Your /mnt/sdcard folder is internal memory (not recognized in CWM recovery).
•Reboot into CWM (recovery) using Quick Boot app or
•Power OFF your tablet, disconnect from computer and restart in recovery (CWM) by pushing and holding POWER & Volume DOWN/LEFT buttons at same time. When Samsung Tab 2 logo appears, you can release power button but continue holding volume button for a few more seconds. Note: If you've done this on other Samsung devices, you will notice that it takes longer before blue CWM v5.5.0.4 text appears ... just be patient.
•Once you are in recovery, use volume button (UP/DOWN/LEFT OR RIGHT) to move around and POWER button to select an option.
Select install zip from sdcard. Choose Root_Remover file you already copied to root of sdcard.
When unrooting is finished, choose reboot system now from CWM menu.
NOTE-By downloading and using this file you understand and agree that you bear all responsibility for the use and anything it may do to your tablet.
DOWNLOAD-
Root_Remover.zip (h--p://www.mediafire.com/?ty54o6lah25w41d)
Replace (--) with tt.
For Root (tested on jellybean):
Use chainfire root its d best i have it.
U can google it or find it on xda search.
Dont use the above method to remove the chainfire root as it can be easily removed from its modified superuser application but it works as any other root and is superb!
Enjoy,
Kunal
Dont forget to hit the thanks button!!

Hey amit i have edited the link in my post n its now working. Yeah dats the correct package use odin to flash it. Dont use this root remover on cf autoroot. Cf autoroot has the option to completely remove the cf root in its own menu. After u have rooted your device, use a root checker(available on play store for free) to check that you device is fully rooted. When u root or flash a custom rom or do anything fishy with ur device using odin, ur warranty gets void as there is a counter in the tab 2 which keeps a record of how many times u have flashed ur firmware wid a custom rom or rooted it or done something fishy. To get your warranty back, use the TriangleAway app (another miracle by chainfire) to reset the flash counter to zero which means u get ur warranty back. Its paid on playstore but is free on his xda page. It only works if ur device is rooted. Nd yes u can move apps to sd after rooting.
Good luck n happy flashing

unrooting problem
Kunal
As you said, I unrooted my tab.
Earlier, I was using official stock 4.1.1
Then I rooted my phone and updated it to cm10 nightly
But that cfw was not good enough (no offense)
To go back to my old stock, I restored my stock which I backedup while updating to cfw via rom manager
Now I wanted to unroot and used the app advised by you
But now when I'm tryin to update my tab using OTA by going under Software Update option in Settings, it is saying following message:
YOUR DEVICE HAS BEEN MODIFIED. SOFTWARE UPDATES ARE NOT AVAILABLE
how to fix this?

Factory reset should fix the issue.

Hey man, sorry for extremely late reply.
To fix this (Do this after unroot only) just connect your tab to kies and then it should recognize your tab and from there you can do the update and after the update you can follow the same root method to root your device. Good luck
PS-I was not able to perform the ota update because of the same problem and used kies to do the same.

[Q] root access for a I9003 with I9003XXLE4 ROM

Hello,
I just want to be sure to do the right thing. To be able to use the LINK2SD app I must set the I9003 into root mode. Which is the easiest way to do so?
The ROM version is currently I9003XXLE4.
At http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351056 I did not find which of the offered version shall I take.
Basically I need to do so cause I want to swap the external sd-card (which I have inserted with 16KG) to the internal sd-card (called usb device).
I found no way way to do so without gettung first root access.
Thankx

Steps for Rooting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus
If you already have all the requirements for rooting your Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 3G P6200, you can now move on to the rooting instructions. Below are the rooting instructions. Remember to follow them carefully. If you are not sure about this, don’t do it or you might brick your device in the process. Also, remember that we do not guarantee that these instructions will work for you. Proceed at your own risk.
Here’s how to root your Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus:
Install the latest version of Samsung Kies. Get it from here.
Download the rooting file to your PC. Get the ZIP file from here:
Connect your tablet to your PC. Copy the ZIP file to your tablet’s external SD card.
Power off your tablet.
Reboot the device into recovery mode by holding the Volume Up button along with the Power button. As soon as you see the Samsung logo on your screen, let go of the Power button but keep the Volume Up button pressed.
Once your tablet has booted in recovery mode, select the option to install update from external storage.
Locate the root.zip file in your external storage. Select the file by pressing the Power button.
The rooting process will begin. When it finishes, reboot your device.
Go to the Android Market and search for the SuperUser app. Install the app and update the SU binary.
Install the BusyBox app from the Android Market.
Your Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus 3G P6200 is now rooted. You can now tweak and further customize your tablet by installing custom ROMs.
Note: I tried to Install the BusyBox app from the Android Market but it seems like it's not doing anything.

[Q] How to? ROOT after Update to jelly bean on GT-P3110??

Hello,
my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 had ICS and I rooted it a few month ago...this weekend I got the update to jelly bean and my root is gone....or I don´t know how to "reactivate" it...so my question is, how can I root it again? same preference how in the ICS rooting?
or doesn´t I have to root it again?
thanks for your help.

The simplest way is by installing (and using) Mobile Odin pro, that you can purchase on Play Store for 4.75 Euros
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5tb2JpbGVvZGluLnBybyJd
With the "Everroot" method provided by that app you can make rooted any official rom without the flash counter being incremented.
I did that last saturday and everyting went on as a charm.

Dude can you please explain the above method step by step after installing ODIN Pro
I am new to that.
Thanks in advance
Unfortunately Mobile Odin Pro requires the device to be rooted beforehand. If you have already upgraded your firmware and lost root it is now too late to use the Mobile Odin method.
You'll have to find another way. I suppose you could flash back to the ICS stock ROM, root that, then install Mobile Odin Pro and install the JB firmware using that.
I don't know if the ICS root tools work on JB (I used the Mobile Odin method described above so I didn't need to find out).
As with any other device... If you root and then accept an ota, you are more than likely going to loose root. I'm sure there will be a way to re root straight from the jb ota soon. But other than that, you're gonna have to flash a stock rooted ROM if you expect to keep root access.
After upgrade my P3110 I also lost my root. Old method was gone. I use CF-Root and it worked. Steps are simple:
1. download CF-Root from http://download.chainfire.eu/239/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root
2. Extract the zip file
3. Put your tablet in download mode (easy mode: press volume up and so power button) after enter the download mode and plug the usb cable
4.Using ODIN 1.85 select only PDA and leave all the rest alone, so point do the extracted file
Root is back. Maybe you have to install BusyBox (Google Play).
That´s all.
Good for you!
Thanks for confirming it works (I suspected it might). Now, buy Mobile Odin Pro and you need never worry about losing root again.

Root your device using CF-Autoroot.
Install Triangle Away from the play store. Run that to reset your custom binary counter.
Reboot.
Now use the built-in SuperSU to disable SU. Now reboot again.
Settings/About Device/Status should now show "Device status: official".
Note that if you get any OTA update it's very likely to remove root status.
If you need to use root access for anything, use SuperSU to unhide (re-enable) su and you should be fine. The device may change back to "Device status: Custom", but disabling su again will reset it after a reboot.
Well regarding unlocking bootloader stuff and ota updates,
if u have really decided to root your tab then you should say but to sammy stock rom , I mean there are more beautiful roms available with features google hasnt even put in 4.3 yet. My advice , if u really want to root , dont use stock samsun rom wid it. Otherwise I dont see the point in rooting and waiting for ota updates.
Unrooting. Unrooting becomes easier once you have rooted ur device once. Only an addition will be using triangle away to reset the flash counter, boot up wid ur stock rom and flash counter reset, ur device will be in warranty again.
I hope that helped.
I am not thinking about using a custom rom because for that i will have to unlock my bootloader and my warranty goes , because all ways of relocking the bootloader have one dis-advantage - after the process it will show re-locked in the stock recovery !!
So just thinking of rooting at the moment .....

Yes, since you'll lose superuser when the OTA is pushed, so you'll have to go through it all over again if you don't wait.
Hopefully you'll get 4.2.2 soon. Us here in the USA never got 4.1.2 so I know how you feel being forced to wait.

Hmmm i agree but the fact is that the process takes no longer than 2 mins provided you have downloaded all the stuff which i have !!
And about the update thing , i am eagerly waiting for 4.2.2 to bring lockscreen widgets !!

The device may change back to "Device status: Custom", but disabling su again will reset it after a reboot.

does this method really work? like will the success rate be a 100%? as I am also waiting for the 4.2.2 update that Samsung Philippines will be pushing anytime soon.
one more thing. every time I do OTA updates, do I need to re-root my tab again after the process in order to gain superuser rights again?

Yes bro , this method actually works !! I just rooted my tab last night .
This link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957160 gives a detail description of everything needed for the process !!
And one more thing before you install a OTA update you will have to
un-root , download the update and then re-root the tab if you want it over the air !!(p.s. - you can always flash the firmware from sam mobile if you have root)
But dont worry , with cf auto root you can root your device in 30 secs , and also un-root the device in less than 1 min !!
It's very easy .....

you used chainfire's CF-AUTO-ROOT. it installs supersSU. I upgraded into pro version and it has "survival" mode in it. will that mode wont work if I push 4.2.2 updates?

I dont know more about the pro features but i know that to update through OTA updates you need to unroot your device and bring it back to the stock condition (firmware, rom etc. ) . So you have to UNINSTALL superSU .....

Don't get too excited, lockscreen widgets on Samsung ROMs (4.2+) require you to have an unsecure lockscreen, (swipe unlock).

I found the the best method for you and all the people who want to get 4.2.2 ... Just download [ROOT]MOBILE ODIN PRO and then select the firmware you want to flash . after you select the firmware press on the keep root option and then you will get 4.2.2 rooted !!!
And i dont know why but after i did the above process , the device status in about phone shows "STOCK" !!! Just a miracle for my warranty !!

For the record i too got the 4.2.2 firmware . I dont keep a pass on my screen because its sometimes tiring to enter it everytime i want to open my tab. Instead i lock the apps that i dont want people to see.
And yeah i agree samsung has not done much good with the 4.2.2 update , be it the large fonts or the notification bar ... But yeah the increased ram and the new customizations in its system apps and launcher are surely some good reasons to update the tab to 4.2.2 !!

[Q] i9505 restore bloatware for OTA lollipop 5.0

Hi, this is my first actual post. I have searched and can't see this query anywhere else.
Ok I'll try to make this as clear as possible, I have read Lollipop 5.0 has been released in the UK for the i9505 and I want to update OTA (which would be when xPosed framework is compatible) but I have a couple problems. I am rooted and I find out now that you can't do OTA if you have previously deleted the bloatware that came with the phone which I have done. Process I have come up with:
1) Use Titanium Backup to backup ALL apps to SD
2) Restore the bloatware by flashing stock Android 4.2.2 firmware to go back to original (can't remember my deleted apps and factory reset won't restore them)
3) Carry out OTA (using CF-autoroot or SU survival mode to keep root)
4) Restore Titanium backups from SD
My questions:
1) Is that process correct?
2) Would flashing the stock rom get rid of my Custom Recovery? Or anything on my external SD?
3) Do I need to unlock bootloader? How do I know if mine is already unlocked or not?
4) Possibly any way to keep my apps layout on homepage?
Extra info: I don't want to get CM, since I had CM11 and didn't like it, prefer the stock touchwiz and custom ROMs have too many bugs.
Would really appreciate any direction on this issue.
Phone info:
Model: Samsung Galaxy S4
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I9505XXUBMGA
Anyone? :good:
Here is the way
1. Backup using helium app
2. Unroot using SuperSU app (in the setting there is a option)
3. Download stock ROM from sammoble (choose the proper one)
4. Flash it using odin (u need to have stock recovery & bootloader status dosenr matter until u r stock)
5. Before flashing do a hard reset.just to be safe
6. Restore ur app d data using helium(this time u will need a pc)
7. Check for update from settings.
8. & to save ur launcher (touchwiz) there is option in helium
The reason why I don't suggest to keep root cuz at the moment lollipop will run into issues if rooted..later on after u r done with updating u can try rooting.make sure to backup SD just in case something goes wrong
WARNING I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG CUZ ITS U WHO IS DOING NOT ME....well it won't go wrong is u do properly..

Thanks for the reply. Checked out helium app on google play and around the internet, many people are having issues with restoring backups, I'll give it a try while I have a nandroid backup just to see how it works.
Sorry I didn't understand what you meant in the brackets for number 4, can you please elaborate?
Lollipop needs to fix itself! Root is most important for me, I'll update when Xposed is compatible on Lollipop hopefully the root issue will be fixed by then.
It dosent matter what is ur boot loader status, locked or unlocked...if u r flashing a official ROM boot loader status dosent matter.d for flashing a stock rom u need a stock recovery....d for helium if restoring dosent work I move the files manually
Good luck in future

Oh ok gotcha! Hmm since I'll wait until root works I think I might just Titanium Backup since I have the Pro version, might as well use it You say I need a stock recovery, would that appear automatically when flashing the stock rom and get rid of my CWM recovery or is there a certain process to be done in order to get that recovery? (I think it's the former option but just checking Thanksss

It's been around 2 weeks since i first started using a custom rom. It's worth to check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353
It's running stable and with good battery life.
Give it a try

Please, follow the instructions in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265477
I can download the latest official firmware at sammobile.com, look for firmwares, and search your device specific rom/carrier.
Good luck! :fingers-crossed:
Just checked in YouTube the difference between the Google edition and original and the original is much better in my opinion. The main thing is I don't want to lose all the camera features it comes with. And I can't seem to find stock lollipop for the original S4 on Sammobile, have to navigate with my phone since laptop is bust. I'll give it a quick look again.
