I'm using a rooted stock 4.4.2 Nexus 5 and messed something up. The phone works fine but when I reboot I get the pop-up attached. Despite this everything works fine.
I know it is something I did by either disabling or freezing some built-in app or preventing it from starting at bootup, but how do I find out which "process system" is the one not responding so I know what to undo?

Just unfeeze them all. Then freeze them one by one....wait a bit to know all is well, and freeze another.
Or print screen your frozen apps and let's look?
If that's even the cause.
Isn't there a simpler way by using some logging device that would tell what the problem is? I just don't know how to do that.

Log cats, if you know how to read them. Not that I really do. But maybe something would be obvious.
You probably froze or stopped something from starting that you shouldn't have tho. Just undo your changes to ones you're not sure of.
I don't see a need to stop most system apps from starting tho....you won't gain anything by it. Aside from Google things, or weather apps. Not sure your motive???
Narrowed it down. It's not anything I froze or disabled. After a lot of testing and trials I discovered that the only thing that prevented the pop-up appearing at bootup was if I disabled xprivacy and because the problem is only recent I suspect it is in the latest update. Will check with them.

I have the same problem and I also use xprivacy.
It was some permission I had blocked in some app. I can't tell you which app or which permission because I finally "cleared all xprivacy data" in xprivacy menu and reblocked permissions as I was asked in each app. Sort of like starting from scratch but it was worth it because it solved the problem.
Hope that helps.
If you find which permission it is let me know.

This spams my notification and status bar when a. I restart phone or b. I turn off all radios and the enable again.
It has to be a third party app I have. Anyone else seen this before? Antivirus programs don't see anything wrong.
Thanks.

I would use droidwall and disable apps that you think is the problem. There is no way for you to know that it works unless it reproduce it self i think there is also another firewall app that does dynamic blocking but it is still buggy Hope you find the root of the problem.
I had that problem on my other phone when I had an mp3 downloading app. Do you have of those installed? I would check that out.

ok i had the same problem heres how to fix it go to the market and download "airpush detector" install it and run it. what it will do is pull the app/apps that are causing the issue then you can just uninstall them.
You def have a rogue app somewhere.
Look through /data/app folder for anything that you don't recognize or looks suspect. Also look through you Application Manager. If you don't remember installing it, unistall it...the worst thing that can happen if it was something you use is you lose you settings. I think that is worth it to prevent possibly losing your identity (not trying to scare you)
Yep I have a mp3 downloaded app. Uninstall!!

Yep, I thought so. Thats what I had on my old phone.
I have it. No mp3 app, though. Spam is lame as hell.
What is this process that I see many apps are leaving behind on exit and has to be manually closed? Why does it exist?
Comon anyone?? As an example where's my water leaves this process behind on exit.

In app purchases with Google wallet. It shouldn't be in running apps, just in cached apps so no biggie.

Sadly it's in running apps until I manually kill it. Currently apart from wheres my water it happens with another app "wallpaper changer".

The process gets triggered every time I open the app.
These 2 are apps from very established devs so it cant be spam.
Hmm not cool. Somebody else might chime in on this, but I can see why you wouldn't want it running if it sticks when you exited the app. :/
Edit: I believe you would need to contact the app coders to fix this issue. Other apps that have billing work fine, so they're likely stopping the service properly unlike WMW and wallpaper changer.
For the reference, WMW has been through numerous patches, so it's not really a matter of spam rather than sometimes shoddy coding.

Yes I suppose this is correct I have many other apps as well with in app purchasing options and they dont do this.
Thanks for the input.
If somebody else also knows about this then do chime in.
Bought wheres my perry in the ongoing sale and it does the same thing. :|
The stupid billing service process is that process which are not give desired results. That means which not meet our need.
So here's a weird one all!
All of a sudden my pattern lock which has been I'm effect changes back to swipe to unlock without me touching it.
I do have a new Bluetooth device and I thought I might have selected this to unlock my device when near but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Effectively I can come backto my device after a while and my pattern lock is no longer in affect and is I stead replaced with swipe to unlock.
Has anyone ever had this?

Maybe you have some settings turned on - under lock screen/smart lock. Try turning off all the smart lock functions there, maybe it will solve the problem.

nope, it's all turned off and it's just happened again

I know it's painful, but try doing a factory reset and check if it happens then. If it does, I'd send it for repairs to LG.
Thanks for the response, but I really don't think that's a fix. I'm still guessing this is something to do with Smart Lock, but I'm not sure where else to look as I thought this was turned off (and it shows as off) in the settings.
It would be worth noting that I'd already done a factory reset recently.....there is no evidence that this would rectify the issue...I believe it might be app/setting related.
Anyone any ideas?
Right it's definitely not a bluetooth device as I turned bluetooth off and it just did it again!

Does this happen in the same location each time? eg. at home
or has this happened in multiple places?
I'm just thinking it might be that you yourself or google have set a home location and that somehow the smart lock settings are picking that up and unlocking for you.
I've had this phone since launch day and I've never come accross this happening before.
You're rooted? If you have a bit of time and you're rooted, you can do a full titanium backup, reset and check if it's still happening. If it does, it's not app related, just your phone being weird and most probably in need of a reflash : D
If smart lock's disabled, it shouldn't do that, regardless if he had set a home location or not.
One more thing, if you can and you're willing, give us a list of apps you've got installed. I'm no expert, but I'm sure we can find a solution if we brainstorm hard enough.
Thanks for the responses guys.
This has happened in multiple locations for a start. Rather strange I grant you.
I am rooted and I could do a test but either way I'd like to know what had actually caused this...
As for apps... See attached. Nothing brand new though that I recall.

Sorry mate, no idea The only thing that comes to mind is that android wear software, but I assume that's the bluetooth device you mentioned.
When I turn the phone off and back on it wants my password instead of a fingerprint... is this happening with you guys? The fingerprint only works AFTER the password has been put in if rebooted..
Also I am getting a weird error message saying "all apps associated with this action have been turn off, blocked, or are not installed." I do use package disabler pro, but everything I disabled was the same stuff I disabled on my s6... anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?
Last thing is the message that pops up saying my SD card is inserted, anyway to get rid of that so it doesn't pop up every reboot?

Firstly the password is normal. There's a quip on there about it being safer that way. I also found if you install greenify and allow it administrator access you can't do fingerprints anymore either. They just upped the security. That's all.
Secondly you probably disabled something , as it sounds like you already know. Lastly that's normal. Guessing it's like the s5 popups that seemed to never go away

Meh... kinda sucks...
Any clue what I might have disabled to cause that? Or am I going to have to go through it one by one.. :'(
Nevermind I got it. It ended up being game launcher which I checked by accident. Hopefully root happens soon to disable that SD card thing cause that's annoying.
Agreed. Glad you found it!

Me too!
One more thing, though. Anyone have any idea of how to add the temperature (weather) to the lock screen? My S6 had the time and a little icon showing what the weather was...
currently my S20FE 5G is running a rooted stock based custom rom that has a few OneUI 4 elements in it somewhere, no idea what those actually are.
I'm getting some steep battery drain but otherwise I'm quite happy with the rom and want to keep it.
I've got a partial wakelock called VK_WakeLock, it's keeping the phone from sleeping when the screen is off. I searched for a while and can't find a method that would help me find the app that's causing it or even better the specific service or process.
if we know the name of a wakelock is there any terminal commands or apps that could lead me to a package / process name ?

I have background data off, I have a firewall that keeps the majority of apps without internet. most of my user apps (which aren't involved) don't do background stuff, so basically I've got no idea right now.

it hasn't been a battery drain for me previously, if it was an update that brought this effect the internet would be full of posts regarding it. as it stands their are only a handful of search results for VK_WakeLock.

Well you know how I feel about updates...
You can try making sure all system apps are updated or roll them back to their factory load versions.
Clear system cache. Clear system app caches or data.
Find the root cause. You need to ID that apk responsible for your mystery name.
or
Factory reset and hope that gets it.
This is why I don't update. Cleaning up an update mess is time consuming.
