Stock Rom user PSA*** - Verizon HTC One (M8)

PSA **********
Custom recoveries can wipe stock Rom files when you wipe data. HTC started loading pieces of the gallery/camera app to data via a preload option. The files will show up in /data/preload on a stock rom. IF you use ANY recovery other than stock, it will ERASE these files if you wipe data .. and you won't be able to restore them (without /data backup).
Be careful and if you need to simply factory reset make sure you use stock recovery as it will NOT erase these files.

No worries. Just rem that people search for issues and when they see possibly wrong info, it can cause more issues down the line. If you avent already, post this issue in the main thread for TWRP and Im sure they will fix it quickly

Anyone on stock Rom who has wiped data and lost the stickers in their gallery can use this zip to put them back.

You will likely be safe on custom roms as the devs usually include /data files in their rom too. This really would only apply to a user on a stock rom who inadvertently wipes /data.
The only problem would show when you go to edit a picture in gallery and want to apply a sticker to it.
If this applies to you, you will know it

What you may be best off doing is wipe data/factory reset. Avoid formatting through cwm on the Xoom. It's not like a phone.

Custom Full wipe script

thederekjay; recognized dev from over in the T-Mobile forum (and many other places), has posted a custom full wipe script to be flashed each time before flashing a new rom. PLEASE READ HIS THREAD for full details...link below...

I have flashed this wipe twice already with no problems.
Cool! this will be really useful
"After it is complete with format and erase, it will align all disks partitions properly"
I don't doubt it works great, but partition stuff makes me nervous.
It doesnt touch any internal or external memory.

Samsungs get finicky when you start messing with the partitions. I don't think Orlando was referring to the internal/next memory more so the boot and system partitions etc

My skyrocket has only had crazy fc's once but seems like some are more susceptible to the fc's more than others. Wgich leads back to a subpar version of cwm...if running this script before flashing prevents crazy fc's, then it's a pretty big deal for our device. Mostly as a supplement to a cwm that requires wiping all partitions 3 times each in HOPES of a clean wipe.

Can this script be added to the CWM touch version that was created. It seems that the CWM touch still has the same problem of not completely wiping data from the SkyRocket. If this script were to be incorporated into it, it might solve the CWM "wipe" problem?

How many people have buggy stock recovery?

I went into stock recovery yesterday, after purchasing the phone to wipe cache.
I like to do this with all my new phones first.
When I pressed on wipe cache, it brought me to a menu that asked Mr what package to install, and was showing me my SD card.
I then tried to data factory reset, which from my experience with other phones acted as though it was wiping cache??
It seems the recovery has 1 to many install from SD card options, and is throwing the menu off.
Can anyone else confirm this?
From what I can see only an update would fix this.
Sent from my XT1032 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Can confirm that selecting "wipe cache partition" shows SD content. Don't want to try the factory reset though.
Reflashed stock recovery twice, it seems broken by design
This issue has to be reported to Motorola.

same here , the listing in recovery just isnt acurate to the job it performs ! - crazy slip up from Moto on this one i think .
My People! I have come for you!
Yes it is buggy, however totally operable!
"What? What did you say Ehsan? What knowledge do you have to bestow upon us, oh learned man of the great metropolis?"
Simple really. Whatever you want to select, just select the option above. Wipe cache is Wipe Data/Factory Reset, and Wipe Data/Factory Reset is Apply update via ADB.
So while I sit here and bask in the rays of my awesomeness, you should go and spread the word.
Excuse my overtly conceited bragging. I only got there coz of you lot anyway

No baseband, IMEI, etc after upgrade to 4.4.1

Hi guys,
I upgraded my rooted Nexus 5 to 4.4.1 from TWRP and after reboot it, it does not work anymore. No signal, no IMEI, SDcard error... I don't know exactly how to fix it, I guess that is a baseband, ROM or something like that problem. Can someone help me?
Thanks a lot!

Looks like your EFS is screwed up
Did you made a nandroid backup ?
Also, try flashing full stock if you didn't
Edit : This post should probably be in Q/A section
Yup, sounds like EFS got b0rked somehow.
I really hope you made an EFS backup before flashing anything, as that holds all your IMEI and radio configuration data.
If you have, simply restore that backup and you should be good to go. If not... I dunno. Take it back and see if you can get it swapped out?
I don't think flashing back to stock will help, as EFS is flashed at the factory to set the IMEI. Stock restore images have no way to know what your IMEI should be, so they can't re-set it.
And yes, this should be in Q&A.
It happened to me before with my nexus 5
Just flash Factory Images and you will be fine
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#hammerhead
When you people say backup your EFS is that automatically backed up in a nandroid backup? Or is there something special you need to do?
Hi, I had this same problem a while back and flashing the factory image worked for me too.

@Hand76 In TWRP you can specify the partitions for the backup, I assume CWM has a similar option somewhere, I don't use it so can't say for sure.
Had the same problem. Flashing factory image solved the issue.

Well, I know TWRP does backup when doing a full backup. Not sure about CWM
There is also a thread in original dev section, containing a script to backup EFS separatly
That's the first thing I did before flashing any ROM
Just fyi, if flashing the factory image fixes the problem, then the efs are never truly gone...
When I lost the efs on my Nexus 's, it was game over, needed new hardware... Seems to only really be a major problem with Samsung phones
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

That makes two of us. If you flashed it on a ROM slot that is most likely the problem. Make a backup of your stock slot, then try installing to that slot. It works no problem on my phone.

A boot loop should not have happened. When you enter SS select the Wipe option and use the "Swipe to Factory Reset" at the bottom. Then go back to the Whipe screen and select Advanced Whipe. Select Dalvik Cache, Cache and System then swipe to Wipe. Go back to the SS home screen and install the ROM. I usually wipe the phone 3 times before I install a new ROM. I hope that helps you.

Yeah man times have changed, with everything. Rooting has gotten so much easier, just clicking an apk. Some people had to hold paperclips to their dismantled phones in the old days lol. Flashing is less scary, ota root keepers, recovery tools. In my day you had to work for it lol flash and pray you didn't see the splash screen twice. Wish I still had my og evo, still my favorite phone ever.
