[GUIDE]Tricks & tweaks to improve looks and speed of your Android - Android General

Hi guys, today I'm posting some great tips tweaks and tricks for ROOTED Android phone which I've tested on Karbonn A1 plus. These should work in almost any phone as they are mostly not device specific. And I've tried them all on my device which means there are next to no chances of damaging your device.
This guide includes the following :-
1.Change the look and feel of your device (Includes CWM method and the new Lucky Patcher method)
2.Run temple run and such games on Karbonn A1+ (and other low-end Chinese phones) and increase overall performance by increasing the RAM.
3.Change the boot animation of your device.
4.Change the fonts of your device.
5.Supercharge the phone with some great tweaks (credits =zeppelinrox=)
6.Some handy tweaks using xposed modules to further customise your phone and improve performance suit your needs.
BEFORE I POST THE TRICKS I'LL HAVE TO WARN YOU, AS A FORMALITY THAT ANY DAMAGE CAUSED TO YOUR DEVICE IN ANY WAY DIRECT OR INDIRECT DUE TO THIS POST SHALL BE SOLELY YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.
READ ANY FURTHER ONLY IF YOU AGREE TO THIS.
Okay, so let's start !!!
1.Changing the status bar of your phone Go here
2. Improve performance
Use Roehsoft Ram Expander (download from attachments) to create a swapfile and use it to increase your phone's RAM.This will provide you with some extra RAM and you will be able to run games like
Temple Run Oz,Temple Run Brave,Temple Run 2,NFS Shift and several others.
I have tested and found all these games running on my phone although sometimes there was a bit of a lag in temple run , but I guess that's acceptable
You'll see 2 empty fields after u launch the app and select the language. The Size field determines the size of the file that Ram Expander will create to provide you with extra RAM. Simply put this means
that the number u type in here will be the no. of extra MBs of RAM you'll get. Remember though that I won't recommend a value bigger than 1024 as almost all apps will do fine with this much RAM.
Also the better your SD Card is the better your performance will be. A class 4 Sd card is the bare minimum and class 6 or higher is highly recommended.
Experiment with ur own values in the swap file size and Swappiness fields.
However these are a few settings that work best for me.
Swap file size = 820 (which gives a total of 204 820 = 1024 MB RAM)
Swappiness = 85
Auto run enabled.
I'd also recommend that you used the CPU control option in rom toolbox pro to underclock the processor to save battery.
Another recommended app is Titanium backup which helps you efficiently and automatically backup the data and the apk of your apps along with allowing you to uninstall bloatware.
3.Changing the boot animation of your phone.
First understand what a boot animation is - It is the animation which is displayed after the company logo in our case after the Karbonn smart logo.
To change it first download ROM Toolbox Pro from the play store. I would recommend that you bought the app as the developer well deserves it.
Now go to the interface tab and click on boot animations . Press the menu key and click install location.
Change it to /system/etc/oem/ and put the filename as bootanimation.zip.
Now download any of the several boot animations from within rom toolbox pro. After download they'll be saved to /mnt/sdcard/romtoolbox/bootanimations/here.
To install one of them just go to the local tab in boot animations, browse to the above folder touch the desired boot animation and click install.
On the next reboot you'll see that boot animation after the karbonn smart logo.
4. Changing the fonts
Bored with the default fonts huh ???
Give this a spin ...
Launch rom toolbox pro and go to the fonts installer option in the interface tab. Click on this option and after a while you'll see a list of fonts which u can preview and install at choice.
You can also search and download different fonts from the internet and browse to them in the local tab and select the install option.
After you do this you'll be asked to reboot and voila !! you have changed your device's fonts.
5.Supercharge your phone and squeeze every bit of performance out of it
I want to make it clear that this is not my creation and all the credit goes to =zeppelinrox=.
Download SManager from the attachments.
Go to this thread : v6 supercharger and download the Supercharger Starter kit (you'll need it) also download the latest v6 Supercharger BlackDog update (NOT V8 supercharger).
Extract the Supercharger Starter kit zip and run Startmeup.sh with SU permissions (touch the script file click on the second (pirate like) icon and click run).
This will install all the necessary components needed to run the V6 supercharger. This will also install zipalign and sqlite binaries which are great help too.
Follow the instructions given on the forum and you'll do just fine.
You can also try this 3G turbocharger script again by =zeppelinrox= although I didn't notice much of a difference but the results may vary from place to place and from carrier to carrier so give it a try too.
6.Some handy tweaks using xposed modules
1.Download the xposed framework installer for Gingerbread from the attachments.
2.Go to the Framework section and click Install/Update.The phone will reboot.
3.After reboot go to the Downloads section and download the modules you want (decide by reading the give description). Install the modules and then go to the Modules section and check mark all the modules.Reboot.
4.Now u can launch these modules from the app drawer and tweak the way they behave and work by changing the settings.
Here I'm posting some links to pages with great kernel tweaks and a page which contains a really nice booster engine. Enjoy .....
Info on kernel and the CPU (includes tweaks as well)
Spl engine (to boost performance)
Congratulations !!!! you've just tweaked your phone to give you all the performance and beauty the hardware below that screen can afford to.
If you have a problem, post it here and I'll come back to you as soon as I can.
Also if you want to post the information in this thread anywhere else you are free to do it. Just make sure that you give me due credit and provide a link directing to this thread.

Here are some mods and scripts that I found working well and which serve some commonly needed purposes (speeding the phone) . None of these have been created by me but by the people on xda itself. My sole aim here is to let more and more people know about these works.
1 . The Pure Performances Mod by Jeeko and team.
Find it here .
2. Universal init.d installer by Ryuinferno to get init.d support on phones where its not present (proves really useful)
Get it here
3. The Great Dash-M by Mya SeR - people running ics and above, keep in mind that this mod REPLACES the build.prop by Dash.prop so your build.prop customizations won't work.
Get it
More to come .....

Hi everybody,
Here is a link to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2629167 which has all the different status bars, ROMS and other handy and useful mods for Karbonn A1 . Be sure that all the status bars mentioned in this thread are safe as I've tried them all.
Enjoy .....

I don't have a Facebook id. Tell me what happened here as it may help several others. Also I check this thread at least twice daily so this would be a much better option.

These tweaks can be used on any phone as they are not related to a particular kernel or os version. You will be able to safely try these with the least chances of damaging your phone. Enjoy ........

Good work, but there is 1 thing amiss here. The kernel. These tweaks may bring out some performance but not as much as a custom kernel. Tweaking/flashing a custom kernel is like tweaking a car engine, its where you can mostly decide how your phone will act. Just pointing that out, so people don't ignore the facts.

Thanks for the suggestion. I too thought about including some kernel tweaks and even some relating to the CPU but I felt that there already are several guides that are far better than what I could write (I've learnt all I know about kernel tweaks from them) already present on xda so it'd be just repitition writing them again. Also I didn't find a very large difference being made by the tweaks (except a few). I originally created this thread to introduce a new method (the lucky patcher method) to change status bars but included some basis tweaks to make it a bit more helpful for newcomers. Anyways thanks for the suggestion. Maybe if some more people mention that they'd like to see some io scheduler and kernel tweaks in this thread I'll include some.

I'm running stock. I tried xperia rom, green wrapper, vaibhavs rom, deadspace, destro A1, bluebean, revnart smoke. , ultra v1, (u see I've tried all the roms available for karbonn A1 but NONE worked) I even tried backing up and restoring but that didn't help either. I also tried restoring chetans backup which didn't help me either. I think that the version of recovery is not for s/w 2.1.3. Whenever flashing failed o had to take the phone to the service center. Any help or suggestion ?
By the way I remember u said you're in a problem ? What's that and how can I help you?

Since this is a general thread for tricks and tweaks. Please talk about kernels and cpu or you can attach the links. So we can get all in one..

I don't know why but I'm unable to type more than 3 new characters in the first post. I'll try to find a reason for this but if I don't get one I'll post the new tricks and extra info (regarding kernel tweaks) in a new post. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hi everybody. I have posted 2 new links as many people suggested that I include some kernel and CPU tweaks too. I couldn't type what I wanted in the first post due to some restrictions by xda so I've just added the links. Hope that helps. Check them out in the first post and Enjoy ...

Little Tip: Update your OP.
"Find the flashable zips in thread" > well as this is a new Thread, nobody will ever find + Attachments are flashable lol
Make a Clear Structure, use your reserved second post
Write down the Features, Advantages, and How-to modify it with own values (even if u already did, you can still make clearer )
Make a clear Title:
[SCRIPT][TWEAKS](12/31/2012)
-=Lazerdroid & MP8Engine=- Gaming & UI Boost or whatever
Write down an easy How-To Use and Test for Not-so-Advanced (I won't call them n00bs ^*>) (Update your old tutorial)
Instead "Yo No Press Thanks" (which is actually pretty true) just "Please Press Thanks and rate 5* if you downloaded anything". Be thankfull... Thank You too!"
Don't just write CAPITAL LETTERS & USE ONLY 1-2 "!"
Only Recomnendations, I don't force you to anything.
Great Tweak btw
Thank You,
Jan
For not so Advanced users ( ) just flash the 2 zip files or anything else needs to be done?
Edit
Using i9000 with C-Rom Bean 4.2.1 v2

Flashed the zip. All is well.
antutu score (engine8 only): 3303
antutu score (lazeroid 2.7 + engine8): 4480 (sd card write is slow as hell due to my movinand) database IO = 360 (has been better on other versions off lazeroid/vm lagtuner.
my setup: SGS 1 with slow nand, liveoc 120, ondemand, deep idle on, no big mem, 512 mb sd card read ahead, SAI on, BLN on
Still a GREAT tweak/script for my SGS.
Thnx LENAROX !
PS: [Question] What's your opinion on "SD card read ahead in semaphore" ? Mine is 512kb because i read that that more causes more lag...

Hmm.. Ill take a look about the sdcard read ahead tweaks.
If you want to disable that read ahead tweak(lazerdroid script)
you should erase all the 'tune your settings here' lines. It will permanently disable every sdcard tweak the script has.
btw, my antutu score is much worse than yours
but who cares, the games are smoooooth

I was wondering - do these tweaks work and have any effect on other phones? For example sgs2.

For all Android phones\tablets\PCs with Linux
MPEngine9 development has been finished. The current changes from the previous version are:
-removed minfree calculator(they dont work in some roms) replaced with MFKx2 multiplier.
-changed all the tweaks to non specified applet directory(includes lazerdroid)(a new fix for everything)
-alot stronger, best cache cleaner.
-theres more but i cant remember...
It still doesnt change the fact that i will release them in sunday.(if lucky i might be able to upload sooner than that)
thank you

[ROM]JETSPEEDv1.0-LEAN,BUTTERY SMOOTH,FAST FOR GAMERS & SERIOUS USERS-EDIT (25.4.13)
JETSPEED V1.0 ROM-FINAL STOP FOR THE SERIOUS USER AND THE GAMER-CORRECTED (25.04.13) TO SOLVE THE GOOGLE SERVICES ISSUES FOR SOME.
SEE TIPS TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE/BATTERY LIFE AND RAM. AM GETTING AMAZING BATTERY LIFE. 37 HOURS...STILL 38% LEFT !!! SEE SCREEN SHOT BELOW:good:
THIS ROM IS ONLY INTENDED FOR THOSE WHO DO NOT WANT THEMED ROMS AND WANT A VANILLA ONE THAT IS FAST, STABLE, BUG-LESS AND FOR THOSE WHO FINALLY WANT TO STICK ON TO A FULLY WORKING ROM, TILL A BETTER J.B KERNEL FOR THE A110 IS DEVELOPED.
STRICTLY NOT FOR WINDOW SHOPPERS WHO INSTALL, UNINSTALL, LAMENT AND MOVE ON WITHIN MINUTES ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE THE PATIENCE TO GO THROUGH ALL STEPS EXACTLY AS MENTIONED BELOW WILL GET 100% RESULT!!!
I DO NOT CLAIM ANYTHING AS THIS IS MY FIRST AND FINAL CONTRIBUTION TO THIS FORUM AFTER A LOT OF TRIALS & EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER ROMS. THIS WORK IS THE OUTCOME OF USING ROM's FROM ALL THE WONDERFUL PEOPLE OUT HERE WHO HAVE INSPIRED ME TO LEARN TO COOK MY OWN ROM. HENCE THE CREDIT GOES TO THEM FOR THE INSPIRATION. I DO NOT TAKE ANY CREDITS AS THIS IS NOT ORIGINAL DEVELOPMENT. THIS IS ONLY THE OUTCOME OF WHAT I FOUND THE BEST FROM MY EXPERIENCE. I JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY FINDINGS FOR THOSE WHO NEED THEM.
ALL THE TWEAKS ARE JUST COMPILATIONS OF THE MANY THAT I HAVE FOUND USEFUL AND ARE NOT BASED ON MY DEVELOPMENT.
I AM JUST AN END USER WHO HAS BEEN STRUGGLING TO FIND THE BEST ROM AND FINALLY DECIDED TO LEARN IT ALL TO DO IT MYSELF.......
IT IS FULLY BASED ON CYNUS T2 & A110 J.B. THE BEST OF THE TWO ROMS ARE COMBINED. I HAVE REMOVED EVERYTHING FROM THE STOCK ROM's THAT COULD BE REMOVED TO REDUCE THE SIZE. THIS SHOULD BE GOOD FOR GAMERS WHO DO NOT WANT EXTRA BAGGAGE ON THEIR ROM.
AND ONE IMPORTANT THING: I HAVE FOUND THAT EVERY J.B ROM (ALL STOCK AND CUSTOM ONES) HAVE THE ISSUES OUTLINED BELOW THAT CANNOT BE SOLVED BY ANY CUSTOM ROM MAKER. REASON BEING, THESE ISSUES ARE BASICALLY RELATED TO THE KERNEL, DRIVERS AND LIBRARIES AND HENCE IT REQUIRES KERNEL MODIFICATIONS AND RELEVANT DRIVERS AND LIBRARIES. HENCE THEY CANNOT AND WILL NOT BE SOLVED UNTIL SOME ONE COMES UP WITH CUSTOM KERNELS AND THE NECESSARY FILES WHICH SOLVE THE ISSUES.
1. MEMORY LEAK PROBLEM. (VERY LESS FREE RAM COMPARED TO ICS ROMS WHICH DECREASES DISPROPORTIONATELY WITH INSTALLED APPLICATIONS)
2. WIFI SIGNAL DETECTION ISSUE WITH SOME ROUTERS (ESP D-LINK AND SOME BSNL ONES & SIGNAL STRENGTH ISSUES)
:::::::::::: DESCRIPTION :::::::::::::
This ROM is fully based on Cynus T2 J.B and has some libraries and files from the A110 stock J.B. I believe that there is not much difference between the Cynus T2 J.B (Final) and the MMX A110 J.B (Final). In fact I found the Cynus one to be a little more better. The size of the ROM is only 150 MB and I have included 47 must have applications to be flashed as a separate file for those who need them. I have also applied performance tweaks that work. The ROM is very smooth and has no bugs. This ROM also has separately flash-able files for Audio enhancements, faster performance and the best Dialer and In-call screen from Ulefone for those who need them.
:::::::::::: FEATURES ::::::::::::
Based on Cynus T2 V 17.01/MMX 1.11 ROM's
With APEX launcher (very fast, smooth & customisable)
Fully De-odexed & Zipaligned
Boot animations from MMX 1.11
WIFI and GPS tweaks (Faster GPS locks after initialization)
Dalvik tweaks
Best camera from all available versions chosen
Netspeed Tweaks
Fast reboot
Battery Tweaks
System tweaks for full GPU/CPU utilisation
Better 2G call quality with AMR Wideband enable
RAM tweaks for better RAM optimisation and utilisation
Video tweaks for faster and smoother playback

STEPS:
WARNING:
PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS CORRECTLY. IF YOU JUMP GUNS YOU MAY HAVE ISSUES!!!!! INSTALL CrossBreeder & 4cyl_Turbo_engine FOR FULL PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENTS!!!
ALSO INSTALL THE UPDATE ZIP FROM CWM. DO NOT TRY TO UNZIP AND INSTALL APK's SEPARATELY!!! YOU CAN REMOVE UN-NEEDED APP"S LATER. ALSO DO NOT ASK ME TO IMPROVE THIS AND THAT AS I WONT BE POSTING ANY MORE ROM's . IF SOMETHING IS NOT WORKING LIKE CORRUPT FILE etc. DO LET ME KNOW. I WILL CORRECT THE ISSUE. I AM PERFECTLY HAPPY ON THIS COMBINATION AND IF YOU WANT YOU CAN KEEP IT. OR ELSE YOU ARE FREE TO MOVE AHEAD AND EXPLORE
1. Download all the files and transfer them to your SD card.
2. Reboot to CWM and wipe data/cache/dalvik. (THIS IS ABSOLUTELY IMPORTANT)
3. Flash the ROM
4. Reboot after installation of ROM once so that it boots up
5. Again reboot and go back to CWM and install the following in order.
a) ulefone-contacts & ulefone-phone (If you need a beautiful dialler and in call screen)-reboot
b) CrossBreeder & 4cyl_Turbo_engine (For awesome smoothness and speed)-reboot
c) If you need, install update.zip for the awesome must have 47 programs that I use on my phone-reboot
d) FOR AWESOME SOUND (BETTER THAN ACID AND BEATS)-Now go to your SD card and unrar the ViPER4Android_FX_ICS_2203 file. After reading the necessary files inside for installation, install the apks and configure (Seperate Guide below)
e) If you need a better keyboard than stock, reboot and flash XperiaKeyboard
WELL, NOW YOU WILL HAVE AN AWESOME ROM GOOD FOR KEEPS.:good:
DOWNLOAD LINKS
JETSPEED V1.0 ROM- UPLOADED!!! EDIT-MODIFIED TO CORRECT GOOGLE SERVICES ISSUES (25.04.13)
My Compilation of Must Have programs
Crossbreeder
4cyl_Turbo_engine
ViPER4Android
XperiaKeyboard
Ulefone-Contacts
Ulefone-Phone
TIPS:
1) Use No-frills CPU for changing the settings to ondemand/noop for those who
want better battery. Those who want speed and find happiness in seeing high
quadrant scores can stick on to the default hybrid/cfq or even try
performance/cfq for improvements in gaming and when watching movies.
2) For those who have 16-32 GB external SD cards, you can add the internal SD RAM space to your system RAM for more data. The results will not be visible in the form of free RAM under "Apps-Running" but you will be able to
observe tremendous boost in smoothness of UI and games. Also you can see that the internal SD card that was 2 GB will now show 566MB
Use the file attached for this simple tweak. Read the PDF file attached for installation. On reboot after installation, dont panic if there is a warning saying that your internal SD card is damaged and needs to be formatted. Just
allow the system to format it and all will be well...
STEPS TO INSTALL VIPER FOR AWESOME SOUND:
1. Un-rar the Viper rar file on your SD card.
2. Create ViPER4Android/Kernel directory/folder on your SD card (Use the exact alphabets). After unzipping the
IRSamples_331.zip copy the files into the /Kernel sub folder.
3. Install V4AManager_FX.apk and run it. Choose "Cortex A8 with NEON" as the CPU.
4. Install ViPER4Android_FX.apk
5. Reboot
6. Run ViPER4Android_FX program from App Drawer and select your needed sound settings.
7. Enjoy awesome sound!!!

1) Ulephone and Contacts Do install: I double checked them after downloading them from my own links
2) You have to flash the update.zip from CWM. After that if you do not want any apps you can uninstall them. DO NOT UNZIP THE ZIP FILE AND TRY TO INSTALL THE APK's alone..Sorry for informing you otherwise earlier ( I am modifying my first post to incorporate this)
3) As I told you earlier WIFI is not my baby ...It can only be solved permanently through kernel modifications and better drivers...for which lets hope ICS had perfectly working WIFI with better range...
Anyway thanks for the sincere feedback. Please download the Ulephone zips again...Think it might have not be downloaded correctly and might have been corrupt.

Yes, it does work. Or else I would not have painstakingly gone about posting them here I will surely post the dialer and in-call screens...soon.... If you are coming from another ROM, you have to do a full erase with data/cache/dalvik before flashing the ROM and the contact/phone or else you will be left with no cell connection when you flash the contact/phone updates
Rom is no doubt good and smooth. Ulefone dialer and incall is working perfect but I found two bugs.
1: I am unable to select SwiftKey keyboard as my default keyboard (I just love it).
2: unable to start gps from notification bar had to start from setting location.
Plz fix these issues.
Till then reverted back to stock jb. One more thing your dialer is not working with stock jb can you do something for it?

1) I am having Three keyboards and am able to select any one of them without any issues. So its not a bug and only related to the particular app you are using. Try to clear cache and reinstall the K.B. See my snap below.
2) I also do not have any issues on starting GPS from status bar. When I click it turns white and all the options including GPS Satellites under location services are ticked on. GPS icom will flash ONLY when you start using some GPS applications like GPS test that I have provided in the update zip.
3) Its not my dialer. It is from Ulefone (or custom SUVI). IT WILL NOT WORK WITH ANY STOCK OR CUSTOM ROM excluding Cynus T2 JB I have already removed that wish as I have tried every method to get it work. The contacts will work but the in screen call will not on MMX JB2
And thanks for trying it out....

[ FAQs ]
====================================================
Q1 : How to increase the abnormal limitness of volume of earpieces?
A :
http://koganefusube.blog.me/70167096326
SGS4 in South Korea has Yamaha's sound codec(YMU831) and the parameters of all of the volumes can adjustable in rom.
/system/etc/ysound.xml does, and I found that the stock values of them limited in 81.
I just changed from 81 to 100 and tested on my sgs4.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q2 : What recovery can I use?
A :
You can use recoveries for i9500(not 9505) to E300S, E300K(I can't sure for E300L but if you know clearly plz post that)
Now I'm using Chenglu's touch CWM 6.0.2.3 and flashing update.zip and making/restoring CWM backups are working fine.
Chenglu's recovery => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267820
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q3 : How to set the wallpaper in the full resolution without the notification bar?
A :
http://koganefusube.blog.me/70167678454
A way to solve this is editing stock sammy wallpaper application.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q4 : How to root?
A :
1. Change your recovery be CWMed.
Like uppon FAQ, I suggest you Chenglu's CWM Recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2267820
2. Download SuperSU v1.32
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
3. Reboot into recovery mode(VolUP + Power + Home button for few seconds)
4. Flash SuperSU v1.32 you downloaded.
5. Reboot your phone.
6. Enjoy
In 20130519, phyb the developer in matcl announced his work. Thx to him if you want and helped by for your geeky smartphone life
※ You'll meet an error if you disabled and re-enabled su via SuperSU. If you do that, a way to reroot as flawless is just rebooting your sgs4. Then, SuperSU will work fine.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q5 : What EQ or audio effect can I use? Stock MusicFX is boring and useless
A :
I suggest you 'ViPER4Android' if you got root your SGS4.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
I tested and applied flawless on my SHV-E300S.
It's funtionality is awesome and better than MusicFX or any EQ apps which doesn't require root permissions.
※ Note : Be sure CWM backup first for something unpredicatable situations, and some of functions in this mod consumes battery and system resources much than before you applied.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q6 : I can't access the hidden modes from inputting 319712358 via dial pad to change the settings about RIL
A :
E300S can access skt hidden mode with 'skt hidden mode +'. You can search it on Google Play.
I don't know about other ones(sorry) but if you know about the another way like this post the reply anytime
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q7 : I want to hide the suggested application list when I plug my earbirds at my sgs4. How can I?
A :
Unfortunately, SGS4 doens't have the setting UI about PageBuddy unlike previous sammy android smartphones
So if you want to do that, debloat all of the apps about PageBuddy.
(Or maybe just disable PageBuddyNotiSvc in Settings? I can't sure about this... if someone try and this is the way what I meant, post the reply anytime )
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q8 : My sgs4 mobile data connection looks slow even if I connected in LTE. What should I do to be better?
A :
Disable fast dormacy and disable geltle fair sleeper.
You can use gokhanmoral's FastDormacy toggle in SGS4 to disable fasl dormacy
and you can disable gentle fair sleeper with inputting a line in terminal.
( echo "NO_GENTLE_FAIR_SLEEPERS" > /d/sched_features )
You can apply this code as init.d script or any apps doing like this
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q9 : I want to change the color of notification bar and panel. What should I do?
A :
Install Xposed Framework and Nottach Xposed.
Xposed Framework : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
Nottach Xposed : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2285074
Note : Nottach Xposed is not for SGS4 in Korea as official so if you meet any bugs in use, that's not a bug. Just not fit for.
Note : Don't change the battery icon. If you do that, Nottach Xposed will be applied as abnormal.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q10 : Default background of Holo UI looks not fit for XXHDPI(FHD). Can I change it?
A :
Install Xposed Framework and DitheredHoloBackground
and use the app what I uploaded in this thread.
DitheredHoloBackground : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173001
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q11 : How to remove the carrier logo on the status bar with editing SystemUI.apk?
A :
1) Open the SystemUI.apk with Alzip
2) Go to res\drawble-xxhdpi and change tw_stat_notify_operator_logo.png into a picture filled blank with overwriting that file.
I attached an image file to change.
Note : If you just delete this image file in SystemUI.apk you want to edit and reboot after paste this, you'll be under endless reboot.
3) Paste the SystemUI.apk into your phone and reboot
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Q12 : Is there a way to make a CWM backup and restore it as easy?
A :
You can use Online Nandroid Backup and Nandroid Manager,
You can make a CWM backup without rebooting into recovery via Online Nandroid Backup.
(Note : If you want to use this flawless, install busybox stericson's one)
You can restore a cwm backup and flashing 'update.zip's as you want as possible without rebooting into recoveryt via Nandroid Manager.

Can someone please verify the exact steps on how to root SHV-E300s? I mean, do I need to install custom firmwares using Odin first before rooting, etc.
It's not only for me, but for others who have this device and want to root. And n00bs like me.
Hello marbulas,
Thank you for starting our S4 info and discussion thread.
I updated the root kernel supports init.d scripts an hour ago.
I think your scripts have been still the best in sgs2.

Root?
Can you please post the rooted kernel? I can read Korean or Chinese and google translate can't translate the page for me. Also, it is asking for business information and things like that. It would be awesome if you could post it though. Thank you.
Here are ME6 rooted kernels which I repacked as supercurio's method.
Choose kernel to be matched with your carrier and flash it via Odin.

For now with latest sammy build, yes. Latest way to root is flashing kernel fixed for. All of latest sgs4s are same on this problem.
Fortunately, a way to root appeared. You'd check the main post

EDIT: Nevermind. I saw the differences between the files. I have to get some sleep or something. LOL.
Just updated via software update. File size is about 50+mb & it says improve stability. Updated & noticed phone running little smoother.

One thing that I would do to help make this thread complete is to add the stock non rooted kernels to the OP. That way if someone messes up they can fix their phone without any problems.
I haven't updated to the ME6 firmware yet. I still have the stock firmware (out of the box) MDK. Do I have to update/flash the kernel posted here to root?

If you have stock sammy rom, you don't have to look for the stock kernel.
Just make a copy the stock rom and open the tar package with data compressing softwares(alzip?) and delete files except boot.img in the tar package. Then, that's the stock kernel to turn back.

[INDEX] List of Tweaks and Mods compatible with Stock ICS

List of Tweaks and Mods compatible with/working effectively with Stock ICS
Hello ICS users,
Its been a while since I have been using the pathetic stock ROM of my device ( Samsung Galaxy S DUOS GT-S7562) . And, to make up for it , I am always on the lookout for performance/battery tweaks/Mods and additional features for a better experience with my device.
I have tried a lot of Tweaks/Scripts/Mods/Apps/Themes to somehow improve the performance of my Stock ROM. Not all are compatible or work perfectly with Stock ICS. Here, I have made a list of a few which I remember with which I have noticed improved performance.
PERFORMANCE
1. ThunderBolt Scripts by Pikachu01 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1556013
Not all of the scripts work perfectly, I had to manually test and try some of the scripts and these were the ones which worked for me - sqlite_optimize , Zipalign, and S98TCPbuffers
2. Project Butter Tweak for ICS[/U] - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060570
This is a combination of build.prop, RAM and other performance tweaks. I got reduced lag in games after this.
3.CrossBreeder - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2060570
Most of you must have already used it, This is primarily on reducing lags. You will notice immediate difference after installing this mod. Also , you can use Seeder / Entropy generator in PimpMyROM app as an alternative
4.Disable CPU Rendering + build.prop tweaks - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1887997
The name says it all,Obviously not every property will work but the ones working will surely provide a boost in performance, battery life as well as quality.
5. Adrenaline Boost V3 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542602
This one is a must have for gamers. The boost is really noticeable sometimes while you are playing games!
6.Some more build.prop tweaks plus init.d tweaks - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904438
7.Bootanimation4U - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063280
this one is for those who want to create their own bootanimation or manually install custom bootanimations.
APPS
1.Auto Memory Manager - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lim.android.automemman&hl=en
Really useful when you need to tweak the multitasking abilities of your device. This is NOT a task killer i.e. it does not blindly kills tasks. It tweaks the LMK in android to modify the multitasking abilities. Very Helpful when you have a lot of RAM usage.
2.Xposed Framework - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
The awesome revolutionary framework by Rovo89 which makes way for other excellent xposed modules which makes almost anything possible.
3.Xtheme Engine - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240180
Although there are numerous xposed modules , this is my personal favourite. It makes you able to choose and change the theme of your device just like the theme chooser in CM ! Getting closer to CM somehow
4.SDMaid - System Cleaning tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013063
It is basically a system cleaner, cleans up a lot of stuff. Really effective in increasing performance as well as saving memory.
5.Greenify - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155737
this app is a life saver for your battery and RAM , It is really really effective if you want to save up your battery and you are sick of the memory managers.
6. BootAnimationFactory - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678540
This program makes it real easy to preview, extract or flash bootanimations to your device through your PC.
7.AudioMOD - Viper4Android - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223
Easily the best audioMOD ive ever seen. It has almost no compatibility issues and the effects added are seriously sick!
I have tried a lot of mods, but these were the ones I found really useful and effective. Ive reached a score of 4500( Antutu ) on stock ROM without SDcard scores primarily because of all of these. Now, Stock doesnt seem that bad after all
Hope these are equally useful to you guys as well ,Thanks !

Thanks
Thanks for this.
I tried all mods before already.
But In this, Bootanimation4u doesnt work on our ICS device. It causes infinite loop of bootanimation.
In our device bootanimation cannot be changed untill tge editing/creating two booting .qmg files in system/media.
So you should delete this mod from your this thread.
EDIT: And yes, i am making a new thread of collection of bootanimations for our device.
More you can see and check after completing of making of my new thread

bootanimation4u wont do anything, it just enables us to create a bootanimation.zip file which can replace the existing bootanimation in the system/media folder. Without this mod, you will have to make your bootanimation in the default format which is .qmg i guess. This mod is working for me, I have been able to port a bootanimation for my device.

There is no file namely 'bootanimation' in system/media.
Files for system bootanimations are in system/media in .qmg files only.(two files are there starts with 'boot')
And one more file is there in system/bin/bootanimation
So bootanimation cannot be changed in our ICS device till date untill we change that .qmg files.

Check this guys
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43215819
Thats what this mod does, install this mod then delete the .qmg files and then you can put the bootanimation.zip in /system/media where it will look for a bootanimation first, or /data/local where it will look for the bootanimation if its not found in /system/media. You have to install the ani mod and not the simple one and then follow the instructions. Believe me i have changed my bootanimation a couple of times using this and bootanimation factory.
But, you can always create the bootanimation in qmg formats.
Hit thanks if I helped
thanks for collecting info.i think v6 supercharger is not compatible for our device

Best combination of Rom&kernel&settings[for Noobs]*NEW*

Hello Noobs,
I you are confused about which rom to chose?which kernel to install? and which settings to set? here is the best thread to check!
This combination of rom&kernel&settings will:
Boost your CPU performance.
Free more ram.
reduce lag while gaming and multitasking.
saves battery.
So lets start
I- Installing DDMF1:
Download XXKPE from here (thanks to kkrraazzyy).
Make clean install by following the instructions in this thread (thanks to Misledz) .
Download DDMF1 from here (thanks to karthik gowtham for the link).
Install DDMF1 by following the value pack instructions.
II- Installing BAM kernel (best battery saver for DDMF1):
Download PDA_BCK_CF-root_universal_beta14fix.tar from here(thanks to XDA_Bam for his kernel).
Install it using Odin3 v1.85 only in download mode as PDA.
III- Boosting your CPU performance:
Download No-frills CPU Control CLASSIC from the market.
Open No-frills CPU Control CLASSIC and set governor to ondemand and set I/O scheduler to deadline.
Overclock to 1.2 GHz to play heavy games.
Check "Apply on boot"
IV- Free more ram:
use swapper 2 to create a swap file/partition (64 Mb recommended ) and check safe mount and safe unmount and run swapper at startup or you could use the stock task manager to kill running apps.
V- No more LAG!!!!!
there is an app in the market called "Seeder" [Paid], this is the best app to solve the problem of lags (it's easy to use just read the description).
VI- Remove unwanted system apps:
Stock roms are full of unwanted apps (google and samsung apps) and these apps eat your ram so you should get rid of them
So here is the trick:
Downlaod and Install ES explorer (v 1.6 recomended).
Go to settings >> root options >>and check all the options (root permissions are needed).
Go back and then go to Manager >> App Manager >> Category and choose System apps.
Now you can remove any system app (hold your finger on the app and choose Uninstall).
Don't forget to backup your apps before removing them in case you wanted them in the future)
or you can flash DeleteUnwantApp_Cwm.zip through cwm recovery (thanks to rahul_rocks3 for the file)
VII- Swap your SDcard:
This mod is a must have when you want to play games larger than 1.5 Gb so big thanks to LoLaTiOn for this mod (mod is in the attachment, just install SwapSD-APK-GB-DDMF1 through recovery mod).
VIII- Add Arabic support:
Just flash DDMF1_arabic_support.zip through recovery mod in order to add arabic support to your rom ( thanks again to rahul_rocks3 for the file).
Notice: this mod will just add the arabic font to your rom so you still can't write arabic using the stock keyboards unless you install an arabic keyboard from the market.
IX- Increase your battery life:
This simple trick will increase your battery life (about 50%+ or more, strongly recommended for normal use):
Download No-frills CPU Control CLASSIC from the market.
Open No-frills CPU Control CLASSIC and set governor to conservative and set I/O scheduler to noop and Downclock to 800 MHz.
Check "Apply on boot"
If you are going to play games or do some heavy tasks, just use No-frills CPU Control to boost your CPU again
Hope this helped you to figure out which rom is better for you and remember that there is no perfect rom for SL,it depends on your needs,DDMF1 is just the most stable and daily driver
Thanks for the informative post

Even to delete unwanted apps, i have to root, right?
Hi ASMI1,
nice to see people are still using my GB kernel. As DDMF1 is a value pack firmware, I would strongly recommend everyone to use CF-root Universal beta 15. With the beta 14fix kernel, your front camera will be mirrored and some minor bugs might occur. Also, beta 15 might show lower battery consumption since it uses the reworked sync bug fix. I could never really confirm this, though

Sorry, this is because /system partition needs R/W permissions in order to remove system apps (located in /system/app folder).
