acs easy root does not work. i ran the root.bat it did its thing said you should have root i did not. i tried it 2 times no root. so i used the method i posted above
Seems much more simple to root when your at 2.3.5 (with stock recovery) then OTA update and you will keep root. I think it MIGHT work even if you have CWM but have not tested.
INope doesnt work if u have cwm i tested and so did a few others. But yes thats correct thats easier but i posted this for those who took the update and were not rooted
I'm rooted rite now...2.3.5. Will I lose my root if I update.. are can I even update while rooted? sorry..I'm still new to android

People are reporting that they didn't loose root when updating. However, not sure if they had stock recovery or not installed at the time. I didn't risk it and flashed back to stock then confirmed SuperOneClick did not work. Used the method described above and rooted.
Yes they had stock recovery. You cant take the ota unless you have stock recovery. And correct if you are rooted with stock recovery u will not loose root
Coming from Captivate and have had flashed HTC phones in the past, I kind of feel like anything Odin IS the easy method. It's like we had a OneClickMethod and a TwoClickMethod.
Correct odin is very easy if you read and follow all directions.
Link to stock recovery
Anybody have a link to the stock recovery for the skyrocket. I want to avoid having to flash completely back to stock before updating to 2.3.6.

Ok, maybe I am missing something here...
WHY are we going to the OTA update if many are reporting poor 4g performance after the update. I don't want my 4g to run slower just so I can say I have 2.3.6

My 4G speeds (pings, downloads, uploads) have improved since the OTA 2.3.6 update. Also, GPS finds and locks more satellites faster as well.

How can i get rid of the custom Binary thing? I also testing my charge with Skyrocket app and it says slow charge. Its taking forever to charge with ICS. Im thinking I need to Odin to stock again, but dont really know how. Plus I dont want to wait another hour and a half to update ICS thru Kies again. Can i just flash the ICS version thru Odin with the blaze pit? Im hoping that would fix the awful battery life im getting too.

I'm running rooted stock ICS just like you, and have custom binary as well. I think having custom is normal. Before upgrading to ICS, it was Samsung Official, though.

It likely comes from the custom recovery.bin - i.e. CWM recovery. It'll go away if you flash/Odin a stock variant.

Hi I rooted (I think) my galaxy s3(sprint) using odin v3.07.
How do I know if it was done correctly...it seemd too fast like 60seconds.
And if I have done it correctly, what now? I don't know what cool things I am able to do now....
and how do I flash it back to the current sprint/android version if I wanted or had to?
thanks..Joe

Hey.... don't forget to thank me!!!
This is a thread for I337Z users that want to go back to stock. This here is the full jumbo mumble packages.
Model: SGH-I337Z (AIO prepaid)
Firmware: TUUAMH1
Whats in included: Platform, bootloaders, modem, CSC. Each one can be flashed individually via Odin I assume.
Warning do not mess with the bootloader files or anything else if you don't know what you're doing!
Requirements!!!:
° an AIO Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337Z).
°Odin 3.07
°Samsung drivers.
Steps to go back to stock on an I337Z
1. Open Odin 3.07
2. Click on PDA slot to select the file platform I337ZTUUAMH1.
3. Put phone in download mode and connect it via USB.
4. Once you see your com port light up via Odin program click "Start".
5. Wait for Odin to successfully restore your AIO I337z back to stock!

Thanks to @DeANgelo130 for letting me use his device information to get this firmware out here on Xda.
************* Interesting facts ************
° This modem doesn't work on the ATT I337Z.
° I couldn't get ROM to boot on a I337 even with Loki or custom kernels. I will try re building zip.

There is not root for 4.4 yet. I don't doubt it will be out in the next 1 or 2 months
So, has anyone upgraded this to Kit-Kat yet? I don't think we'll ever see it from AIO.
So the aio variant for sure has a locked bootloader?

Do you have root? I know there's a way to download and grab the zip from the phone if you have root. Otherwise the other method you suggested may work.
EDIT: Root method is easier as you just download, use file manager to get it from /cache, and then you can upload it for others. I don't know which root methods do and don't work for your device however. Logcat can be done, you'll just be looking through a lot of lines of logs possibly.

its true what you say, i have been trying logcat but it shows a ton of lines, and im searching for the hotword .zip or zip or update and no results give me a URL, maybe samsung is cloaking the update from logcat or they found a way to hide it, in my phone the root i know it works is kingo root, but when im rooted the phone does not let me download the update, it says "your phone has been modified, updates are not available"

Try installing Xposed Framework and Wanam Xposed, and use the fake Official system status option. I think that might fix it but I don't remember all it checks.

I looked up your specific tutorial, it definitely will not work.
That only works on the international model. As a general rule, never trust a guide unless it says it's specifically for the Verizon galaxy s3. It's locked down much tighter than any other s3 models, and many alterations that can be performed on the other variants will often brick this model.

You can still root, install a ROM with Safe Root or Safestrap or whatever, and have a better-running phone. You simply can't install a different kernel... it sounds like you can even still have a custom Recovery (modified TWRP is my understanding).

Want some advice? Sell the S3 for a pre-4.3 S3 or sell the S3 for another device. Theres no guarantee that AOSP will ever work with Safestrap.

It wouldn't, you need a CDMA device, the international s3 doesn't have CDMA bands. Verizon leaves you pretty limited in device selection.

That's what I thought, so that pretty much just leaves me with Verizon versions of the phone... I'll make sure not to stick with verizon when my current contract expires.
