What’s the relationship between Oneplus and OPPO? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

No a real surprise to me, just a confirmation of a thing i always tought.

Kinda expected tbh.. Not like it's gonna change anything in my eyes..
I see Oppo as a nice company! And I was happy with their Find 5 with the exception of colour OS, this is where Opo will prevail with CM11S.
Nothing bad about it in my eyes..

So blatantly lying to potential customers in order to gain more sales is 'nothing bad in your eyes'?

are you care about the names, lies or the marketing if you will get a high-end product (not just hardware, built quality, but software and future support (hope so)) on half price?
i don't care
btw I agree with you if you talk about the "smash your phone" incident

That picture is from 2 months before the company was even unveiled. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they only had one investor at the time

I don't care that Oppo is Oneplus, neither do a lot of people. The issue is that they are blatantly lying to potential customers by trying to hide it all in order to portray themselves as a new startup trying to fight the giants. **** that. That's terrible marketing, and is going to hurt them a lot more than if they had just come out.

Yup. I have no issue with OnePlus' relationship with Oppo. Actually, I have issues with how much they are trying to distance themselves from Oppo, considering that Oppo's reputation in the west is overall positive and how close they still are to Oppo despite their claims.
The OnePlus One is a slightly modified Find 7a. In fact, in addition to manufacturing the device, Oppo appears to have done the initial BSP bringup prior to handing off development to Cyngn - the source code drop for the Find 7/7a also has defconfigs/code/ifdefs for a "find7op" which differs from the Find 7a code only in the few cases where the One and the 7a have been definitively documented to be different.

Except they are lying... What they state there is a minor technicality. It's obvious that the two companies have a VERY close relationship. Again, this relationship isn't an issue. The fact that they constantly claim that it doesn't exist IS an issue.

Holy god people are idiots. From the beginning one plus said that most of their team came from oppo and they left oppo with their blessing. Which means oppo gave them seed money to start out. Which means they own a own a part of it. I guarantee once the one plus comes out and they have enough money they will pay oppo back and break all ties. This is not a scandal this is how business is done

Though according to the official one plus response to the documents, they try to side step the question without answering it..

How much more secured is this than the traditional S-ON/S-OFF? I guess I don't really understand to what extent this new security changes over the old.
Also, it's already cracked on the Thunderbolt so likey can be repeated on the Incredible S. If it's crackable, isn't that all that matters?
This was an interesting argument, to me: NOT that the phones aren't still crackable, but rather that HTC is giving into intimidation by Verizon.. and by doing so, it's signaling that they will bow down to carriers, yet even moreso, over end users who BUY THEIR PHONES and are their actual customers.

You may not agree, but the "rebel" in me likes that argument at least....
When you combine this with HTC America's not honoring warranties, they are not making the best moves given their fractional market share and the massive competition getting stronger and stronger from Motorola and Samsung every day ---- though I love HTC's phones and have never cheated on them once!
But keep in mind HTC *owned* the entire turf of touchscreen devices during the mighty reign of Windows Mobile... Now? Today? They are practically an asterisk. And Motorola? They were gonners. People thought there were out of the game having fallen so far behind after nothing new since the RAZR. Then the new CEO came in, targeted Android as his platform for choice, they targeted the DROID as their re-entry vehicle, and they slammed into the touchscreen market and overtook HTC like a steamroller.
When you are playing on THAT kind of playing field, you're going to go messing with your most loyal customer base -- and kiss ass with a carrier? I think HTC is blundering all over the place -- all the while they continue to make fantastic phones. But fact remains, they cannot afford to even SIGHTLY ANNOY a loyal customer these days. Once someone goes Samsung or Motorola, I don't see a big love affair where they're going to comer back to HTC. So, they better watch it, from where I sit. It's not just as simple a matter as "but we can crack anything". That's missing the point entirely.
Is HTC dual mode? Are they just doing it in the US or all over. That's why I've never liked Verizon. Started years ago over ringtones and BitPim.
What gives that person the impression that Verizon had anything to do with it? They're using the same security in the Incredible S, which from the specs on HTC's website, is a GSM phone so if this additional layer of security were a specific demand from VZW, there'd be no reason to add it to the Incredible S.
I doubt increasing security will hurt HTC sales at all. I'm thinking the majority of HTC phone users do NOT root their phones or hack them. Sure, XDA members do, but the average Joe? I don't think so. The percentage of people who buy HTC just because it's hackable is probably a pretty miniscule amount compared to the big picture.
I could be wrong, but I think the more likely answer for increasing security is to reduce warranty claims and support calls from would-be phone hackers accidentally bricking them.

I'm with this. Go to any Android phone dev section and you see tons of people returning phones for replacement because they goof up flashing it.
I didn't realize this was posted already, I had just posted this in another section, I had said a week ago that it might be the end of an era with HTC locking down their phones, this sucks.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this is just pressure from the carriers rather than HTC itself.
Regardless, i am disappoint!

Exactly.
Even if HTC were to start locking the bootloader at the behest of one particular network (and frankly, I find the notion that any one network would have enough clout to try and impose such measures questionable, to say the least), there'd be no reason for HTC to do this to all their handsets.
This is a decision HTC have made themselves.

Also true - XDA may be big but it doesn't compare to the number of phones being sold.
Heck, there are more than 3 times as many Galaxy S handsets have been sold as XDA-devs' entire membership and that's just one of a miscellany of handsets this place caters for.
man i hope somebody talks some sense into them

Well I don't know for sure, but when you hook up you phone to your computer and flash it, your computer and phone will communicate with each other, and the computer will tell the phone what the new rom will be. Now, the people here at xda only have to figure out how to tell the phone what the new rom is.
But with this new security, not only do will we have to figure out how to tell it, we also have to answer the phones question to the computer, what the password is to flash it. This password is only known to HTC.

I was thinking the same thing. The new devices with be unlocked and made available to the people who'll use them.
If HTC locked the phones like Motorola does, then there will be no further HTC gadgets for me.
I didn't buy Motorola because of the same reason.
Every time they make a "secure lock" it takes all of a week to open and rewrite
IF they did make it uncrackable, according to the Supreme court decision it would violate ownership rights.
This is phase and as such, will pass

I think you need to re-read that.
The Supreme Court said it wasn't illegal to hack/tweak/modify software such as rooting/jail-breaking but that doesn't magically give you a right to do so.
If end-users have the right to modify their handsets, how do Motorola get away with their encrypted bootloader?

HTC - STOP False advertising petition...

You can see the statement yourself at: http://www.facebook.com/HTC/posts/10150307320018084
I don't want to add to the legal troubles of my favorite manufacturer, I just want them to correct their mistake, unlock the bootloaders as promised & apologize for what I am sure was an inadvertent oversight that will be corrected in a few hours or a day or two.
You simply can't make advertisement directed toward increasing sales off new devices to developers & power users (the folks that review and fix bugs for you freely in many cases) and then break that bond, that trust built over the last decade.
Also, don't even try to say that you aren't using these social media outlets to market and advertise. I have been getting your posts and tweets, advertising your devices all week.
While your actions are certainly in violation of numerous trade regulations and laws, I don't care at this point. I don't want to make a name litigating over these issues, I just want the manufacturer that I support, to keep their word and market/advertise their devices in a fair and ethical manner. I am not participating in the boycott thread & I'm not asking people to stop buying HTC products. Just the opposite in fact. I want you to be successful. But I also want you to honor our relationship and keep your promises.
Please, take notice and make this right.
I ask all XDA members to support HTC in doing the right thing & pledge your support by joining this discussion and adding your name to this petition.
We, the members engaged in discussion in this forum thread ask HTC to comply with their advertised & promised claim of May 26th, that all future devices would have unlocked bootloaders.
We appreciate your timely rectification of this issue HTC.
Sincerely,
The above & below named participants.

Lying about S-LCD displays is another reason I avoid HTC phones. HTC used to be acceptably decent. Now they seem to lie their rears off.
Although I am a die hard Samsung user, I do support your cause for HTC to have unlocked bootloaders now and in the future. What they do could affect how other manufacturers treat their devices. I wouldn't want to see the same thing happen to Samsung phones either. Plus this also stifles development by the independent community as well.

I've always went with HTC phones, and I was considering going with another manufacturer until HTC made the bootloader statement. Now that I see they are not true to their own words, and I can't even trust a statement made by the CEO, how can I continue to trust your devices or quality.
I personally make decisions in my company regarding the devices we use in the field, and have mostly chosen HTC phones to meet our needs. If you continue this line of blame-shifting back and forth between it's AT&T's fault and AT&T says it's your problem, (we all know better considering other devices from other manufacturers are unlocked or unlockable on AT&T) you are going to loose a large contract, as I will have to find another manufacturer, and possibly another service provider.

+100 im shocked the evo 3d owners got them to unlock the bootloader. And they posted that statement when we all told them how angry we were they locked our bootloader. I cant believe tuey flat out lied about unlocking future devices tisk tisk.
It is not HTC that is locking the bootloaders. It is the carriers. They lock them because people brick their phone and claim them under warranty which costs the carrier a fortune. There is a legal battle over this currently.

Motorola's cavalier attitude will have them banned in the U.S. Does anyone even care?

http://m.engadget.com/default/artic...microsoft-patent/&category=classic&postPage=1
Unlike apple, Microsoft gave them plenty of chances. Only Motorola can be blamed, not like they were releasing anything revolutionary anyway.
Meh...w/ that said, the Razr (thinnest) and Razr MAXX (longest battery life) aren't revolutionary to you? Minus the locked BL's I still say the Maxx is one of, if not the best phone out currently overall.
I don't find either advance to be a game changer, now if they made a small battery with that much charge or a thin phone that retained durability I'd understand.

Motorola will most likely be singing a different tune once Google flexes the "we own you" muscle a little bit.
In this day and age, I just can't understand a company who doesn't embrace the open spirit of Android development. Developers can help a company so very much if that company will open it's eyes and stop thinking "only" with it's bottom line.
Obviously they'll work it out. Too many $$'s at risk.
These kind of things don't make sense to me. It is so stupid. So if Microsoft wins, then Motorolla will just change 1 small thing in their new phones and move on with life...

I actually had to watch that video to learn about it. Motorola DROID line up doesn't get much play on this side of the world. Still waiting for the fantastic Razr Maxx. By time it gets here, if it gets here, it won't seem so spectacular versus the One X and upcoming GS3. Which is a shame.
Back to topic, I'm sure something will be fleshed out, MS deals more than Apple and with that whole Motorola Xbox ban thing I'm sure MS has some motivation.

Im sure most you now know all the irrational lawsuits that are hurting technology. Apple getting patents on things like "unified search" (!!! seriously?). Things are getting out of hand and this total nutcase judge Lucy Koh has just banned Galaxy Tab 10.1 and galaxy Nexus.
She obviously has no understanding of how OS work and has made very biased statements against Samsung's lawyers. [ "I'm frustrated," Koh told Samsung's lawyers.... "I deny the motion for reconsideration on limits."] { http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/06/27/us-samsung-galaxy-ruling-idUSBRE85Q02B20120627 }
{ http://www.infoworld.com/d/mobile-t...bid-longer-trial-in-samsung-apple-case-198543 }
and now a couple Samsung products are literately banned from US sales, seems almost unreal. (Current inventory will be allowed to be cleared out); and Samsung might have to pay over 15 Billion dollars in fines.
This is getting serious; and with a over 4,000,000 users we are the best chance of getting some serious petitions going to:
1) Get Lucy Koh to resign
2) Stop apple from getting patents on things they did not invent and abusing the patent system.
3) Prevent a monopoly with smartphones, tablets, computers and operating systems
4) Change the patent system; which is not built to handle the technologies of today. (https://defendinnovation.org/)
5) Appeal the BAN on Samsung tablets and Galaxy Nexus, and stop abuse against Android OS!
Change.org is great place to start petitions, and just we all overturned SOPA/PIPA; this is our next fight. I ask for anyone that has experience or knowledge in starting this fight, to step up, we all collaborate and do this!

Fault number 1: apple did not create any of the generic usability traits that they somehow got a patent on. You think they created clicking on a phone number in text and calling it? No, Nokia had it before apple. Hell, palm PDAs had half the stiff apple is using now.
They are abusing a corrupt, stupid patent system. Those old fargs in charge don't know wtf they're doing when they issue a patent on using your finger to navigate a touchscreen.
Other companies just have some dignity, and possibly not the connections high up in the patent office that apple has. Source code is something you can patent, not a gui.

There is little we the people can do other than to wait until Google, Microsoft, Samsung, HTC, get together and their lawyers smack Apple down. Don't worry so much over something you can't affect.

Before i would agree with you but after seeing the unprecedented affect WE had on crushing sopa/pipa, it completely changed my mind on how much power we really have.
And regarding your picture, there was also the compaq tc1000, and countless Samsung touchscreen only bar phones that were out years before iphone

Apple makes most of their profits off their iPhones, so they are in the same situation as your vision of Samsung.
Android isn't going to die, and stop posting your crap in an Android forum.
(I mean, you don't even own a real phone there's no such thing as the Nokia i350. The closest I got is the Nokia 3500 Classic which is a candybar phone with a 1.8 inch screen)

Ifans, IOS user can buy, sell, use, and be crazy about what they love. We deserve the same to buy, sell, use what we love. They can't just force us to use what they love... No matter whatever they have been trying to do, we will never get what we have never loved. We, user, should be the judge to decide not a idiot woman who has never learn what smart phones is and how smart phones work.

We were warned years ago that software patents should not be allowed. Copyright your code, patent an invention. Moving your finger across a screen is not an invention. Having an email program on a phone, not an invention. Etc.

Agree. While I am not an apple fan, I don't to see them die. I just want to see fair compatition from all manfactures, this way, we the consumers will have better toys to play with, as they will be compeating for our money to buy thier product. All this "patent war" is acomplishing is to stife inovation, and drving up the cost of products. In the end it is us, the consumers, that don't get a better product, and have to pay more for it.

Maybe you should write some new material instead of copying, and pasting the exact same reply in multiple threads.
Pin it to Win it.
I agree with this. It's absurd to assume that we won't get any where by voicing an opinion. In my mind, apple can suck it. I've had iOS devices, I've had Android devices, Android blows iOS out the water every time, flash in a default browser, Firefox, custom ROMs, What you got apple fanboy? Ooh Cydia market, big whoop. But I'm off topic, where do I sign this petition at?
And I just wanna say one more time, suck it apple.

i agree, the way things are is ridiculous in the patent system. if anything this is keeping me from buying anything apple related and making me wish they would die the firey death the apple fanboy/topic derailer is chanting about.

Actually she ruled against Apple initially but was overruled by the appeals court and instructed to revise her prior ruling.

What's the point of this post? Why did you feel the need to create a thread saying you don't like the looks?
Please delete your XDA account and go complaining elsewhere.

It has to be said, OP, your thread and post are rubbish lol, no offence but dayamn! Waste of time, but all the replies telling him to stop whining, to go away and complain elsewhere, damn it I've seen these kind of replies to criticism of Samsung phones on these threads too much!
These are not Samsung Praise forums, if a person comes here to bash and hate on these phones so be it, they're allowed to dislike them. Don't be telling them to go away and so on lol. Sheesh
Opinions are like a$$holes...

Guess you spent too much time thinking what to say and then you blew it

Sorry but your comment seems to be contradictory, on one hand your saying his post was rubbish, while on the other your saying actually it's ok and that it's ok .....[emoji12]
I know how you meant to write it though, however it comes across a little wrong....
Every phone has its faults and not everyone will like that's a given. However it's best to be a bit more elaborate & explain your likes & dislikes.
For me i personally dislike the fingerprint reader placement & also that Samsung didn't do enough to separate the S8+ from the Standard S8 (they should have imo had Duel Camera's & 6gb Ram on the plus), but for whatever reason it wasn't to be.
I'm still very much happy with my decision to purchase though .....[emoji3]

I think the phone is nice, not worth the mad price though! Agreed that the finger print sensor placement is just poor. Camera only slightly better low light pics, I just feel... Meh.
I want that display on my mate 9. Then that would be a perfect phone. Can't live without 10 hours SOT anymore

There is alot Meh but for me personally i never have high expectations. I base my purchases on what i like about said device & is there enough to warrant my purchase.
So for me i sold my S7 Edge to buy the 3T (which i very much like). The S8 & Plus were announced (Missed alot about the S7 Edge) so my purchase was to get the things i missed (Camera, Wireless Charging, Water Resistance, Screen & Build) back, however this time there are gains in the Nice change of design, facial recognition, iris scanner, Camera does have a different Sony Sensor, faster more efficient processor.....
For my case it was worth purchasing, if however you have the S7 Edge then for the high price tag, unless you must have the latest device then you are perhaps better off waiting for the Note 8.

Aesthetics are always going to be subjective.
I think we are reaching a ceiling with mobile phones. They tend to be slowing down in terms of dynamics and capabilities rather than groundbreaking. Having written that the S8 does advance the screen real estate to a new level. I do ponder if the S8 is enough to warrant such a price tag when the S7 is still a highly formidable mobile?
I have to confess even a die hard tech geek like me questions the evolution of the S7 to the S8 but how far can one go with a mobile phone? For the first time in decades I am hesitant and rather unexcited about the 'latest and greatest' must have.......Having written that I will end up with one. Hopeless case...
