Hi, I think this will be a bit different type question that you guys are use to seeing. I'm hoping some of the guru developers here have a suggestion or two.
Where I work we do video/image processing mainly for Gov, UAV's, stuff like that. I'm a HW engineer. Today a SW engineer came to me asking if there is a way we could tap the HW in an Android phone to be able to get some kind of timing or sync signals that they could use to correlate data from the internal IMU's (accelerometers) to data being recorded by the video camera on the phone. I believe they are looking into using the IMU data to stabilize video captured from the camera (similar to how we do it on other systems).
I'm not at all familiar with the HW in an Android phone but I image a lot of the key signals I'd need are locked up inside the CPU until somewhere.
To me this seemed like something SW could do. We agreed that writing the typical high level Java type app for the phone wouldn't work. Either too much delay, inaccurate timings, or the App would not be able to get direct access to the IMU data and the video stream to record both.
Is this something that can be done hacking the standard video app? Would we need to get down to the kernel level to be able to properly see/control the video camera and the IMU?
We don't work with Android so this would be very new territory to us. Let me know if you have any thoughts.
thanks
JM
Noob, so I cant post this where it actually belongs..
So I thought to give Surface RT a chance and bought one. I still have my iPad on the side, and I would like to get rid of it, if RT works for my purposes. Now I have few issues with mi new shiny device.
Question 1:
I have managed to "install" jailbreak and use some of those nice Desktop apps ported to Windows RT.
But I cant/dont know how to use ffmpeg0.6.
I have installed it, but when launching app it tells me about missing dll file. What can I do about it? There is no GUI?
Question 2:
I use Internet Explorer to watch some live hockey streams that are Flash based (also available on html5), but it seems to be somewhat too laggy. Is there something that might fix that?
Question 3:
Almost all my video files are AVIs and playback is terrible. Very low fps and stuttering audio and video. I have tried several media players from Microsoft Store but same issue with them all. Around 700 Mb *.avi files are not working properly and this could be a dealbreaker with this device for me... Is RTs processor just too weak, or is there someting that might fix this issue?
Apologies in advance if this question is in the wrong section. I tried putting it in the Android specific one, but I don't have sufficient rep.
At the moment I'm using Bluestacks to run an apk that requires a front camera to be used as a barcode reader. So I'm looking for an Android emulator similar to Bluestacks that enables the webcam to be used as a front camera.
Cheers in advance,
jmc2000.
Hey folks,
TLDR at the end
I'm wondering if you can help me please, however I'm not sure if what I want is available. I'm new to this area of Android and I'm finding all the options a bit daunting as I'm not familiar with what is reputable and what is not. For example, I read the thread about the Gearbest MXiii, but when looking in the UK, I found the same box on Amazon, released under 2 different Manufacturer names... Much like if you try to buy a Media PC keyboard.
Anyway, here are the things I hope to do / run:
I want to replace my Windows Desktop that acts as my Media Centre. I use Kodi (Formerly XBMC) 14. I also use Chrome to play Netflix (would replace this with the android app), Spotify - and that's pretty much it. All my Storage is networked so I don't need anything there.
I am hoping to get a powerful machine (Quad core perhaps) with the ability to run lollipop (through AOSP if necessary) that will run Kodi, spotify and the Netflix app. BUT what I am also hoping to do, is run a 5.1 audio setup. I'm under no illusions that this support will be unlikely to be built-in (Although that would definitely be preferable) but will happily buy a USB DAC if we know of a stick that will support it and is not extortionately priced... What complicates things further, is I don't really want to run 5.1. I actually want to run 3.0 ( I don't imaging that makes much difference here, but again - it's not a familiar area to me). The reason being that on my Desktop, I run a centre speaker with the volume controlled separately, because whenever any of my media supports 5.1, when it mixes down to dual channel, I often end up with loud sound effects and low dialogue, which can be trouble when I have both an upstairs and downstairs neighbour....
So.... does anyone have any recommendations based on that?
TLDR;
I'm looking for a Powerful android stick that will support Lollipop through any means and 3.0 Audio as a minimum, even if through a USB Dac

what a crap question
Hi everyone, I'm learning more about Android, I'm a musician too, and want to use (in future) Amplitube in my Moto G 2014.
Thinking on professional music apps, Samsung created Samsung Pro Audio, which delivers very low audio latency.
My questions is: Can it be ported to another non-Samsung device? If not, is there a possibility to do it in future, if a developer who know much about android try?
Sorry if it's a too noob question, but I didn't find an answer anywhere in my searches
