Hey,
Around July i will have enough budget to buy a new smartphone.
I've been looking at the Oneplus One and I liked it, but I don't know if i should wait to the next fall to buy the next nexus phone (if there is one).
What should I do?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Either should be fine. The most important thing is to wait for reviews before buying any of them.

The next nexus will most likely have a faster processor and wireless charging. If that is important to you then I would wait. Also, I wouldn't put an ounce of faith in Cyanogenmod giving timely updates to the software of the phone. I would be very surprised if they were able to get an update out 6 months after the next version of android is released.

CM builds from AOSP source. They'll have whatever Google updates in just mere hours up to 2 days. CM11 kitkat was out so fast after it was released. Just cause they didn't decide to make a thread on xda right off the bat doesn't mean it wasn't out.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Well, it depends on how they plan on updating it. Are they going to build the nightlies directly for the OnePlus One? Or only release "stable" milestones? Since the site says that it is a customized version of CM you may not get those customized features in nightlies if they are released.

I am sure they will allow you to unlock the phone and flash the CM nightlies if you want same with the nexus. If they were smart, they would know people like us would do that considering that seems to be the market in my opinion. It probably won't have the customized features but I am sure ROM developers will jump on it, especially with all of the CM ROMs floating around.
To the OP: It won't be availble for sometime, you have to be invited to buy it or join the smash deal. But if both phones were available I would definitely get the oneplusone (I was sold on the JBL stereo speakers).

Well, a more serious answer, we have no idea what the Nexus 5 2 is going to be like so it's very hard to say what will be better.
We really don't know. Evaluate your options when the time comes.

There is a stable version of CM out there? They aren't going to be releasing nightlies for a retail product. There literally still isn't a CM stable out for our phone. The next version of android is a month away and every OEM has already updated their flagships to stable versions of 4.4.2.

I can get upto 50mbps with my extender around my place. The only issue is that it has to be on Channel 7 with all the interference. If I put it on Channel 1 then I barely ever see over 20mbps.I'm going to just run cables again. I rather be hardwired anyways since I'm a gamer.
Yes they are called milestone right now. Before you say oh they have bugs remember we're all waiting on Google to release 4.4.3 to fix a good amount of bugs. one of them being the battery eating camera bug .

Well the Nexus is out now, so it shouldn't be too long. Sometime before Xmas I would imagine.

back when i had an x10 there was a website that would show firmwares being uploaded by sony ericsson for ota updates. They were usually available within a few days, so im hoping its the same case here.
Let us wait for OTA... Now I am enjoying with Kwiboo's ICS V3...
I am thinking 1st to 2nd week of December. I think Google and Samsung wants to release the Galaxy Nexus first in the US before they update the Nexus S.

It's for sure they'll hold back any OTA update until the U.S. release of the Galaxy Nexus. But I want it as soon as possible! I don't understand why some people flash ICS roms with no wifi for example, when the official update is so close.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
Why is it for sure? Unless you have inside info that nobody else does. Besides the US release of the Nexus won't impact sales any because the nexus s isn't on Verizon anyways.

Ok, even if everything is working just fine, it doesn't really mean it doesn't have some problems. That's why an official update is better than an "alpha"/"beta" rom.
Besides, this is the reason why you buy a Nexus S in the first place, for updates. After the OTA, it's custom rom all the way
EDIT: @Jeff Dunn: almost forgot, it makes sense to release the update AFTER the phone that is supposed to be the new android flagship. And it doesn't matter that the Nexus S isn't available on verizon. You know, there are other countries outside the US... but nevermind.
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
But it has been released outside the US already. Which kinda invalidates your point. Regardless though we will see it when we see it. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

They spent 900 bucks plus airfare to get to IO I don't think anyone will touch Jelly Bean until source is released in mid July. SDK ports are buggy as all get out and nothing more than proof of concept. We still won't have a fully functional ROM until LG releases ICS source. On the bright side, drivers should be able to be ported from ICS to JB, until GB to ICS.
i see Paul at modaco.com already has JB rom w/kitchen for the galaxy nexus the G2x versions will be uber gimped due to lg's inability to release the source to the dev community. reason why i sold my g2x for a gnex and haven't looked back.

nope! its a nexus brand so it will get updates first since google is handling the code/updates directly. i assume google has the source for the kernel and of course resources/connections with nvidia. whereas lg just wants to sell more phones than update older ones (prev g2x owner).
thats why i love the pure google nexus phones

Haven't the previous Google direct Galaxy phones been outdated rather quickly? Maybe not outdated, but left behind in terms of OTA's and things like that?
I mean, people will argue the galaxy s2 is a better phone than Nexus...and now the s3 just came out! For one (only one?) of the only devices to come pre-packaged with ICS, it seems to lack certain functionality and features that carrier specific phones have.

I baby my g2x, I have one of the LG branded ones that isn't directly related to a carrier. At my desk, that thing never sits on the direct surface, only on a stack of post-its, haha.

Well depends when the source is released then complied and bug tested and posted here. I would say 2 days to 2 months depending how much it has to be tweaked to run right.
Samsung has a headstart probably because of its galaxy nexus series phones,so probably other galaxy series phones will get it fast too?? i would say less than one month from now.SGS 3 is still one of Samsung's flagship models still though. :good:

I am planning to buy a new android phone and shortlisted Nexus 5 and Xperia ZR. I think Nexus 5 would be a better choice because of its large development support but question in my mind is "Is it worth waiting for Nexus 6?". There is no fixed date for Nexus 6 but hopefully it will be announced in Q4 of this year. Please suggest, should i buy nexus 5 or wait for nexus 6? Is it worth waiting for?
From my research cons of nexus 5 that i don't want to get with are: Battery life and Camera. And both of these might get upgraded in Nexus 6.
Thanks in advance.
