Disconnecting during calls - is it me? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Whenever I make a phone call, for some reason the phone almost always disconnects the call, this is the 2nd nexus I've had, first was replaced due to poor GPS lock - this issue has happened with both phones?
Could I be touching something accidentally during the call causing it to disconnect?
Got me baffled this, if I can't sort it the phone will have to go

As you said this your 2nd Nexus, tell me one thing, Are you using a Wi-Fi network for your call and you leave the Wi-Fi coverage area, your call might disconnect. Try the following actions:
Make the call using the mobile network instead of a Wi-Fi network.
Move back into the Wi-Fi coverage area, and try making your call again.
or If not, then might be its your telecom provider problem.:good:

I don't you are touching something accidentally. My guess would be a poor network connection.

I cannot make calls with my G2x

This is my second G2x and both have exhibited the same behavior. It will dial a number, whether from the phonebook or the dialer itself, and the phone application will say that it is dialing. After 30 seconds or so, and no ringing on the other end of the line, the call ends itself.
I usually have to enable Airplane mode, then disable it, to be able to make a call. sometimes I have to go as far as rebooting the phone completely after which it may or may not work. Incoming calls fail as well so I am missing quite a few calls and texts...but thhe emails and other data messages come through.
Oddly, data works perfectly regardless of whether the phone is having problems calling. This happens in 2g as well as 4g. I have manually selected 2g and could not call and had the same trouble in WCDMA only mode. I thought it was related to Wifi calling but enabling that has no effect.
Any ideas? I am trying my other line to see if that SIM card is having trouble. I just have no other ideas at this point.

I used to have this problem frequently on my MT3G. Since someone else is having this problem on a different phone, I would guess that it's something software related.
Alright, it is happening on both of my lines. It might be a program that I installed so I am loading them back on one at a time to see if can determine which it is. I am looking at either Google Voice or Beautiful Widgets as likely culprits at this time but there is not certainty. I have also avoided installing Facebook and Twitter. I am able to make calls right now. I will see if this keeps working for the next few hours...maybe through to my morning coffee. I really hope it is an application, something I can do without, because it would be pretty bad if it is the phone. My girl just ordered one of these as well since she likes mine so much.

Happened to me twice today, first in the AM and then again around 2200 central time. i recently started using setcpu so not sure if thats an issue or not. anyone find the app responsible?
Yes, it has happened to me too, usually after it is in standby or idle, and this is my second phone. But my second phone not happens as often as the first one. Reboot is the only way I can get it to work. I notice that the signal is very weak only 1 or 2 bars.
That is a very good point to mention...that it is almost always directly after bringing the phone out of standby. Mine just did it again.
Same problem here. I don't even know how many calls or txts I've missed since.
Had this issue with my N1 and I always chalked it up to cruddy radio and/or coverage. I've since had it on my g2x once or maybe twice I think (had g2x for 3 days now), but at least after it timed out I was able to try again and the call would go through. With my N1 it would never recover unless I toggled airplane mode or sometimes even needed to reboot.
I hope there are some improvements in this area, because bad radio was my biggest gripe with my N1, and i really want to love this phone!

[Q] Not receiving incoming calls when 2G data is in use

Hi,
I'm using HTC Sensation, and can't seem to receive incoming calls when 2G data connection is active. Same goes for SMS messages. As soon as the "E" sign goes blank or if I disable mobile data, the calls start coming through.
I've tested this out with SIMs from other networks as well. Problem persists with them as well.
A little research shows DDTM (whatever that is) needs to be disabled. HTC Sensation has no such setting, the closes it comes to is "Enable always on mobile data" which is disabled on my phone - still having this problem.
After a little while of continuous mobile data use, the phone gets hot (as expected) and the battery starts to drain real fast.
Aren't incoming calls supposed to interrupt mobile data connection to host calls?
No, with edge you can't have data & calls at the same time. People should automatically go to voicemail if you have an active data connection (actually pulling down/sending data).
As far as I know, a call has never interrupted my data while on edge, back before 3G

I don't think that's true. I had Hero before this one and data used to be on all the time, it always got interrupted in the event of an incoming call. Hell that's the default behavior on any cell phone from Nokia to Samsung. Even Galaxy S 2 does it!
Could it have to do anything with permissions?
Was wondering, is this an application-related thing? Specifically if an app doesn't have the "Read phone state and identity" permission, and uses mobile data, it won't interrupt itself when an incoming phone call comes in.
Just an idea.

it may have been connected but not sending/receiving. If you're sending/receiving data (active connection) at the time that a call comes through, then it will get bounced to voicemail.

Call ended right away? Can't make calls

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone is experiencing this weird hang up. When I try to make calls, it automatically ends my call without any rings. I keep trying to call and it keeps ending right after it dials.
I had to restart my phone to finally get it to work. It has happened twice to me now.
Same exact issue here. Rebooting sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Tried uninstalling Google Voice, same issue. Annoying as heck.
Same issue here, on T-Mobile. I exchanged my original phone because I was having radio issues (phone would not connect to the mobile network), but this problem seems to have carried over. Phone is set to use WiFi calling, I'm wondering if there is a handover issue when I leave my home wireless network.
I'm on T-Mobile as well, in north Dallas area. I do not have mine set to do WiFi calling, as it is guaranteed to drop your call when you leave your house (happens every time to me, so now I don't bother with WiFi calling).
This instant "Call Ended" issue is separate.
Yup, happened to me earlier, i had to turn the phone off for 15 minutes. Im on t-mobile
Solution!
I believe I have figured out how to fix this. Go into Settings, then More..., then make sure Wi-Fi Calling is on, then click on Wi-Fi Calling then make sure you have Cellular preferred selected. After I did this, I was able to make calls with Wi-Fi on or off. Hope this fixes yours too.
Same issue here. Call hangs up right after i hit dial. Tonight even resetting the phone twice didn't solve. Finally after 20 minutes I was able to make a call. So frustrating as I had an important conference call I needed to be on. I ended up texting a few people in the call, and my texts were successfully received, just couldn't call out. So frustrating, but comforting knowing that I am not alone. Think I might return this phone as this is the 5th time this issue has occurred and I've only had the phone for 6 days.

Sorry, that is not a fix. I've used that configuration and still ran into the instant call ended problem. Thanks for the suggestion though.

VoLTE (voice over LTE) could actually be the problem - that is a setting that comes pre-enabled and I never disabled it. Makes sense to try disabling it and see if it happens again.
I'll report back in a couple days whether the issue happens again with VoLTE disabled.
Man I really like this phone, but the call ending and camera issue, I had to return it. Damn you sony!

The call ended issue hasn't happened to me since disabling VoLTE. Though I did get a call from my wife when she got off work, which when I swiped to answer, my phone rebooted.. that was fun.

It only happened to me once. Rebooting had no effect, but after turning off LTE everything worked. Makes sense that it would be a VoLTE issue.
you can try fiddling with the network mode settings in the more wireless/network option. the t-mobile rep. got it working again after switching the network preferences from LTE Preferred to GSM. That got calls working again. I believe I switched it back to LTE afterwards and I'm not experiencing any more problems with that error.
Same here. It was totally random as to when and how long it would automatically end calls.
VoLTE settings made no difference. Eventually the problem would return.
I just replaced it at the TMobile store.
Problem Solved!
So, I was having this same problem and reading this forum, I discover that I just need to change the network mode
Go to settings > More... > Mobile Networks > Network Mode
And it probably its marked LTE (only).. Just change it for LTE(preferred)/WCDMA/GSM
I hope it can help you
I have HTC One M7 with cm12.1 and I'm having this issue too!

Issue with "Dropped" Calls

I have a G8142 with the latest security patches/updates on AT&T.
I'm having a strange issue occur on probably one out of every two or three calls. After about 45-60 seconds of conversation, my mic will cut out. I can still hear the other person clearly. I can end the call (this is not instant - it hangs up for 3 to 5 seconds) and then call the person back and resume conversation normally.
A few notes:
It doesn't matter if I place the call or if I am called
The duration from beginning of call to cutting out fluctuates
My microphone diagnostic indicates it is working properly
The call does not seem to actually drop - it will go on for quite some time (with me able to hear the other person) until someone eventually hangs up
Calling the person back/being called back does not fix the issue (it can happen multiple times in a row with the same person/call sequence)
Signal strength is usually -80 or better
The phone functions flawlessly otherwise. There also don't seem to be any issues or drops with respect to the data connection, and SMS/MMS messages seem to get delivered immediately every time. The phone hasn't been dropped or exposed to any liquid. I have disabled some system apps (like Facebook), but none that seemingly have to do with making phone calls.
I have full bars most of the time. I force 3G+ on the phone, as the 4G+ (LTE) signal is weak in many areas. AFAIK that only affects data rates anyway.
It doesn't seem to happen as much if at all if I put the call in speaker mode. I have not used a bluetooth headset for calls to see if that fixes the issue.
Here's some things I've tried:
Rebooted the phone
Updated my IMEI with AT&T. I'm not sure if they actually did it (they stated it was "already changed") or if it makes a difference. My last phone was an unlocked Nexus 6p and did not have this issue. I did not get a new SIM for this phone.
Double-checked and redownloaded the APN settings.
I haven't tried voice calling through a third-party app, like hangouts or whatsapp, but I assume it would work just fine because it's being transmitted over data.
There is either a GSM/setting issue on my end, a settings issue on AT&T's end, or possibly a hardware issue (like a loose SIM, faulty mic, or bad antenna).
For now I'm at a loss, and any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
*** UPDATE ***
I've tried clearing the phone app cache and making sure that battery optimization is turned off for the app. I'll report back if this seems to fix it in case anyone is having a similar problem.
*** UPDATE 2 ***
That didn't work. Calls still drop intermittently. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a problem with the antenna, AT&T towers not particularly caring for the baseband firmware on this phone, or an issue with the dialer app. Performing calls over data (like Whatsapp/Hangouts/Duo) works flawlessly.
We'll see what happens if the phone app gets an update, or maybe after Sony releases the Oreo update.
For those US XZP users on AT&T or those that were considering buying this model, be aware this issue may affect you.
*** UPDATE 3 ***
Changing the mobile radio to 4G (preferred) instead of forcing 3G seems to have solved the problem.

Question Phone app not completing call.

Checking to see if others are having similar experience...go to make a phone call and the phone app ends the call ("Call Ended" across the top) as soon as I press to dial a number or contact. The only way I have found to get a call to go through when this happens is to turn airplane mode on / off again which I guess resets the network connection.
I dont have the best cell reception where I am and use wifi calling too, but it does not seem to make a difference if I am using wifi or not.
