All credit, and a personal thanks goes out to open1your1eyes0 for the use of his S4 Bounty template here.
I put priority on getting this up quickly - so pretty directly used his format to get the bounty thread up and running.
Bounty Details
While other S5 variants have been fortunate enough to receive root (and on some, unlocked BL) upon release day, we over here on the Verizon have had the unfortunate experience of ever-increasing doubt in whether root will be achieved on our device. As the logical (and expected) progression from the S4, the S5 is locked down tighter than a drum - and the consensus on this device is that root would be worthy of higher accolades, than what root and unlocked bootloaders would have garnished in past Galaxy devices. I would like to personally offer a $500 bounty to the first person able to find or create a method, exploit, or unlock that allows us to fully root and provide the necessary steps for rooting the Verizon (and now, ATT) Galaxy S5 here on XDA. I am hoping this bounty, as with any others that choose to pledge here, would be a helpful motivation to the developers willing to invest the time and effort in helping us unlock the potential of this great new device. Or (where applicable) that this bounty will be a humble counter-offer to other potential sources of revenue for such work.
As the level of difficulty increases with each new device, the level of appreciation and admiration for those willing to find (and help find) such exploits increases exponentially. I cannot express my gratitude enough, for those who choose to tackle such an endeavor. In this vein, I would highly encourage any and all VZW/ATT S5 users to consider pledging a donation towards the efforts in helping us achieve this first-step. Please consider chipping in to this bounty, as this can only help increase our chances - and will help keep our variant in the minds of those who are willing and capable of finding an exploit. Those who want to help find an exploit, such as myself, but that lack the knowledge and experience in linux/java - this is your opportunity to help by contributing within your means. To reemphasize; this bounty is for achieving a root method/exploit only, and will apply to an unlock that precedes an explicit root method.
Greatly looking forward to anyone interested in becoming a candidate in this challenge to find a means for root.

I'll do $1000 for root for the VZW or ATT version (or both). $2,000 additional for bootloader exploit that allows kernel flashing.
*Note The pledge for root is no strings attached. The pledge for the bootloader is for an exploit only. I am not encouraging disclosure of proprietary files nor the breaking of NDAs.

$200.
With all the crowd sourcing sites popping up, surely there should be a way one can set up a true "conditional" pledge somewhere.

Frankly, I don't care how someone does it. I may have to bump my pledge to 1 million.

..

Does anyone know whether an exploit would also work on ATT? Joining forces might help make more of an impact.

PLUS
Another -$50.00 credit to my other account for the [email protected] VOIP Phone service (contract extension for 2 more years)
Total saved today -$150.00
HTC Sensation final cost: $50 bucks! vs the $199.00 2-year contract price shown above.
Best deal EVER I've had while being a T-Mobile users (aside from the CelFi unit I have from them)
I also chatted up the CSR and made her crack up when I said, "I pray you guys don't get purchased by those assholes at ATT; they suck and you rock!"
She said, "I hope your prayers are answered because I don't want to be laid off along with the 800+ CSR reps here in this call center." She was talking to me form Ohio.
In the end this was a better deal for me when compared to what Amazon.com is selling the phone for. With T-Mobile I didn't have to change or modify my voice/data plan which is grandfathered in. With Amazon or WireFly you MUST choose a NEW rate plan. There is always a catch...
Go get em folks!
Wait - how did you get the third $50 discount?

I pay $9.50 or so a month for unlimited talk with the [email protected] service. I have a corp discount rate though; normally I think its around $12.00 a month? The service for new customers has been discontinued for about a year now but T-Mobile still provides it for standing customers.
When i purchased my vibrant through amazon i had to change my data plan. As soon as I activated the phone I was able to call tmobile and tell them that I wanted my old data plan and they switched me back. They really know how to treat their paying customers.

Nope I saved $150.00 as an incentive to renew the contract for the account containing the [email protected] service line. As a result the CSR offered me an additional -$50 off @Home account If I got the Sensation today. I couldn't pass this deal up.
In the end its
$50 VISA gift card
$100 back in my pocket (or never out, lol)
That's a good score.
However, I am waiting until Saturday to activate a new Sensation and contract, so I can stack SENSATION50 and the father's Day $10/month free data plan for a year.
Then, after that has been done, get my corporate plan to reimburse the activation fee and drop the monthly.
I got a $90 bill credit, HTC Sensation 4G at the 2 yr agreement price and a free Nokia Astound, the upgrade dates on my other lines are untouched but the contract was extended 2 years on all of them.. LOVED this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was offered the bill credit, I didn't ask for one.. I was happy enough getting the Sensation 4G 14 months before I was supposed to be able to.

[BOUNTY - WON] Unlocking the Bootloader on the AT&T One X ~ PLEASE PAY YOUR PLEDGES

[BOUNTY - WON] Unlocking the Bootloader on the AT&T One X ~ PLEASE PAY YOUR PLEDGES
UPDATE 5/24/12
A working method of obtaining an unlocked bootloader has been posted:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671396
The bounty has therefore been won by grankin01. Please pay your pledged amounts to Paypal at: [email protected]
Please post on here that you have paid (by method to be determined) and I will indicate so next to your name below.
====================================================================================================
This thread is for tracking pledges toward a bounty for unlocking the bootloader on the AT&T version of the One X. I've set up this bounty at the suggestion of some users here. I know a lot of work is going on over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639972
And it would be good to give the hard working devs some motivation, and a reward for all the hours of hard work.
This bounty is only for unlocking the bootloader on the AT&T version of the One X. There is a separate bounty for S-Off on the international version of the One X here:
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1642922
Whether a method to get S-Off on the international version will also work on the AT&T version, I don't think can be determined yet. So if you own the AT&T version, whether you pledge toward S-Off on the international forum is your decision.
Pledges as of June 4, 2012 (payments updated through post #73):

This thread is for tracking purposes only, and will be maintained by me as a courtesy. I do not claim any responsibility for collecting pledges, or transferring them to the winning developer. Payment of pledges will be on the honor system. Its your responsibility to pay the winning developer.
Lastly, feel free to "thank" me for this thread. Nowhere near the contribution that the devs regularly make to XDA. But its a bit of work tracking the pledges, and a small thanks would be greatly appreciated.

Put me down for $30 regardless of HTCDev unlock.
Put me down for a $20 donation towards some beer or pizza. Whatever. Keep up the good fight fellas.
I'm lovin the generous pledges.. The bounty should grow pretty quick if others follow the trend... Once it gets worthwhile I'm sure there will be some effort... Thanks op and everyone who donates!
I'll do $50 before ATT/HTCDev. PM me if this happens as I dont check these forums everyday.

Bounty for s-off

I wasnt going to do another bounty but let's face it. Without s-off development will fall off. With s- off HTC and at&t can go screw themselves. So here goes. No conditions on pledges. Just an amount. Let's get this done.
Bounty will be paid to the first individual or team to present a repeatable method for gaining S-off on the HTC One X(L) Evita. The method must be one that is REPEATABLE by an average user with very low chance of brick. I want to say NO chance of brick but hell bricks happen.
I will be in charge of deciding who gets the bounty.
Please NOTE:
Our last Bounty went very well with all of the proceeds going to charity. I don't expect a repeat of beaups' awesome generosity, so you shouldn't either.

For more information and to pre-order, please visit http://www.att.com/galaxys4.

On March 28th, AT&T made a said a statement saying pre-orders for the Galaxy S 4 started at $249 w/ a two year contract. I thought that either ATT (or Samsung) was becoming cocky as hell and were going to make $249 the new standard price for the base model of flagship phones
Apparently that was just an oversight and the $249 is for the 32 gb version. The 16gb base version is still just $199 w/ 2 year contract (as it should be) :highfive:
If they charged $249 for the phone I wouldn't call that cocky.
I mean the phone is at least twice as good as the iPhone5 so they should have charged twice as much. Make it $399 with 2 year contract. That's just my opinion =)

As a consumer I detest standard setting price increases and won't condone them. You know why? Because even more price increases down the line
If a company doesn't mind giving the customer the middle finger and setting the price at $249 with 2-yr contract for 16gb... you can bet your *** that they wouldn't have any issues increasing the price either next year or the year after to $299 with 2-yr contract as the new standard
Glad everything turned out ok though
Re: ATT: "Whoops! Sorry guys the Galaxy S4 is $199 w/ 2-yr contract after all" (not $
You can't blame AT&T for getting the max amount of money they think their customer base will pay. They are a business, that's what they do.
Customers can accept it, or vote with their wallet. If everyone will pay $250, then AT&T would be dumb not to charge it.
So don't blame AT&T, blame consumers that are willing to overpay for products...

Let's not forget the "upgrade" fee of $36. It's already just about $250 with contract.
It's starting to be really one sided towards the carrier here. $250 plus an upgrade fee is nearly $300, which is half the price of a new smartphone.
This might be worth it if we're talking yearly upgrades, but we aren't. And then we pay a higher fee for service, because it's supposed to subsidize us getting a phone "for a steal." We get no reduction in price for providing our own handset or when we're past our contract.
With that, maybe now you can see why any price increase is ridiculous.
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt.
Most importantly lets not forget taxes. Taxes will be charged at the full price of the phone, not at $200. So if the phone cost $549.99 then you'll pay the taxes for that price in your state.

I usually call AT&T and use the VIP customer card to get the $36 taken off. However, it doesn't always work, and that's when I have to threaten to take the phone back, cancel existing lines, and move to Verizon. After that, they're usually happy to get rid of that $36 fee.

That means Best Buy will probably sell it for even less, AND with a LOT better warranty.
The 16GB model is gonna be $199, the 32G $250 & at&t will be the only carrier getting the 64G but he didnt have a price on that, although I suspect it'll be $300

That's one of the reasons I am waiting to see the exact pricing on these phones before buy one. I want to purchase on at full price so I can get it unlocked. Carriers such as AT&T should provide plan discounts for people that own their own device and don't need to subsidize it. There should be a $20 per month discount in such cases. But there isn't. I don't want to get into another 2 year contract, with a locked phone but customers paying 100% for their phones up front are getting screwed. The entire argument for carriers charging so much for data plans is that they are also paying for the subsidizing of the phones. So for a 2 year contract (or time frame), a person that buys their own phone is paying an extra $240 more than a person subsidizing. And at an upfront price of $700.00 for a phone (just an example) vs. someone subsidizing at $200.00, there is another $500.00 more. So in a 2 year time frame people that buy their phones might pay as much as $740.00 or more because they bought a phone instead of subsidized. Samsung will get the same money regardless. It is AT&T that is making the extra profits.
Ill be getting the 32gb model. $250 is a good price. Then ill sell my note 2 for around $500. Cha ching!

What is Best Buys warranty? Is there a deductible?
I might just stick with my credit card doubling the warranty and maybe getting a better warranty through them. It's like $60 from my memory.

There isn't a deductible for a warranty. You only have a deductible for insurance. I'm not sure what kind of warranty or insurance BB offers though.
I do have a question that I hope someone can answer though.
When you upgrade at BB and you're part of a family plan and have a data plan that is no longer offered by AT&T (grandfathered in), can you still keep that data plan or do they change it?

No $36 activation fee. 30 day return policy w no restocking fee. 1 year best buy warranty but it already comes with 1 year by default from samsung. Price match before puchase or after purchase up to 30 days.

That's nice, but I still believe in using the free one with my Credit Card or even purchasing their extended one.

Also have had good luck with this technique. I flat out refuse to pay a $36 fee when I'm renewing what's effectively a $2,000+ contract. If you ***** and moan enough, they'll eventually do it for you.

Coming from the 2XL, best of luck. Was a total mistake buying it from Verizon and will never do it again. I encourage you all to get it unlocked from Google. If you need the financing, you can get it elsewhere around the same monthly price.
I don't understand why you guys buy these phones from Verizon when you know the bootloader is locked. Why not just buy it from Google it's the same price
My company just let me have the bogo deal since they were buying another employee one. Otherwise i would have ordered from Google.
Throw me in there for 30$
I'd be happy with root, but I am debating about fixing my HTC 10 and returning this to Verizon (taking the $50 hit) and rebuying it from Google.
Throw me in there for $50
I'd personally take the hit. But for me a 1k phone is worth significantly less without root.
I wasn't hanging around XDA when I bought the 2XL so made the mistake going with Verizon. You guys in here now, ground zero, are being warned by others, even still making a bounty post already! It's like you see the wall you're about to run into and start planning for the ER visit instead of just moving out of the way.

Not to mention, Verizon had BOGO, for $800 off another Pixel 3 or XL. Plus Best buy had $100 GC per activated phone, so that's $1,000 in credits. Then Verizon has a promo for $200 mastercard GC per new line activation for military lines, so for me that was $1,200 in credits for 2 Pixel 3XLs. I'll take $1,200 in credits over Day 1 root anyday. It's just a phone, most important things can be done without root these days. Only worth while things that need root are for the true hardcore enthusiasts.
Anyone who says they're too good for $1,200 is truly crazy.
Plus some people are "stuck" with the Verizon model. I did purchase the unlocked from the Google Store but bought a 3. After using it for a few days, I just wasn't happy with the size (plus I wanted the bigger battery) so I wanted to get the XL. My return period with the 3 closes by the time the Google Store estimates I'd get an XL. So my only option was to buy the Verizon model from Best Buy. I hope I'll be able to unlock the bootloader somehow, but I guess it won't be the end of the world if I can't.
$50 for me
I dont think there will be an unlock for the VZW version unless its stumbled upon , not much interest for devs to work on it if you can just buy the unlocked version. so get the unlocked one unless absolutely necessary to get from VZW lol. I for one would have wanted the google unlocked version even more so now cause i think a lot of the sound and memory issues will be fixed much better through custom Kernels but i wound up having to get though Verizon for better deal still debating trying to get an unlocked version from google
No one found or was interested in finding root for the Pixel 2, and I would imagine that the 3 will be no different. I had the 2 XL from Verizon, and this time around I got the 3 XL from Google.

Yeah that seems like it will be the case with the 3 XL , i did fine with my Verizon 2xl so i thought i would be good with the Verizon 3 XL , but i have a feeling the few things that bother be about the 3 XL will require an unlocked device to fixed them with rom/kernel .... i should have been saving to get from google lol
I'll put down 100$ to see this happen. Just got a Verizon model today. I compile a few ROMs for various devices so if it gets done I'd love to work on this device. Quite frankly I feel safer to donate after I know work has been started.
I know some of you bought a Verizon model for certain reasons, but instead of pledging a bounty for something that may never come, why not sell your phone on Swappa and buy an unlocked model from either Swappa or Google? What's it going to cost? Maybe $200 at the most, but probably not that much. It's not much more than what you're willing to donate, and you'll have an unlocked model much sooner.
Probably not the right place to post this, but my wife and I got VZW Pixel 3's in the mail today. I'm guessing one is an RMA, not sure, but her bootloader is unlocked out of the box.
I'm at work right now, but the phone is at home. Any useful information I can pull off of it?

I am not a dev but have been around here for a bit. Send us a pic of the bootloader screen, blur the important info like the imei and whatnot. From what I read in the P3 area is that the VZW bootloader can be unlocked if you don't put the VZW sim in first, complete the Google Setup, and then connect it to wifi, you can then unlock the bootloader.
I will be trying this tomorrow. and since they cannot turn a phone on without your permission first I think I'll be able to do this. Shoot, I'll even research to see if the bootloader can be reset for those of you (and possibly me included, I'll find out tomorrow).
The great thing about technology is there is ALWAYS a workaround, you may just have to find it.
