Few questions about Moto G XT1033 Dual Sim? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I am going to buy Moto G soon and interested in single sim variant XT1032 but unfortunately it is not available in my country, the one available here are only XT1033 dual sim variant. I have not much choice other then to buy dual sim
So, I just need some info from XT1033 owners before pulling the trigger:
I read some where that some of the Gravity Box and Xposed Framework functions are not 100% functional or compatible with dual sim variant? Is that true?
Can we install a single sim rom on the dual sim version and basically make the dual sim a single sim phone? I will be OK if the 2nd sim do not work with single sim rom since I am not interested in 2nd sim + any single sim custom rom like CM e.g will work with dual sim one?
If the single sim firmware/rom works on dual sim variant? I think Gravity Box and Xposed Framework functions will be 100% compatible and functional with that? Correct me if I am wrong?
Any other thing you guys want to let me know about dual sim related?
That's all the questions I have right now in my mind.
Your feedback will be much appreciated and thanks everyone in advance.

Yes it does work with only one sim active, but there will be a lot of bugs incl. FC for certain apps and system UI. Test these ROMs for yourself.

Yes for everything you asked, I am currently running a XT1032 firmware on mine and it's perfect.

What do you mean by FC for certain apps and system UI? And how i can test the roms my self without having the phone

It does not happen on all ROMs. But a few like Carbon ROM, the System UI Force closes, making it almost impossible to use the phone. I have not experienced any force closes for apps, but few of the members have.
You will have to ask other dual sim users for that. Or just skim through the ROM's forum and see if any user mentions anything about dual sim.

Yes, yes and yes! I was in the same boat as you, i.e. unavailability of single SIM variant (my case was slightly different though, but not related to your queries). You can turn your phone into XT1032 without any problem. In fact, its basically XT1032 with the options to install 2nd SIM if needed thanks to the possibilities we've. With these things in mind the dual-SIM variant seems more logical choice.

I've used CM11 when I was on XT1033 ROM and it worked like a champ. Haven't tried it since I flashed single SIM ROM though, I'm currently on Google Play Edition ROM and before that I had Retail UK ROM. Might also give a shot to CM11 as well once it reaches in stable phase.

YES. In order to turn your XT1033 into makeshift XT1032 you'll have to unlock your bootloader meaning voiding your warranty; if it's a big deal to you then beware. Also, I'm not too sure whether you need to unlock the bootloader though, but considering the benefits it offers and too many restrictions it has you'll have to unlock it anyway.

Dual sim.Because it is more practice than you carry 2 devices at the same time.

Thanks buddy. I have one more question hope you would answer that too.
Today I was using a friend qmobile A900 which has 1GB ram. I tried different launchers on that and we got +100mb ram left around. It was working fine I didn't saw much lag but I noticed slight delays. It was on 4.2.1 OS
So my question is 1GB ram on moto g is enough? It will handle all the launchers and other tasks good enough? Have u ever felt that you need more ram?

Absolutely not. I've tons of apps running with Google Now launcher and I still get 350MB+ MB left (even on 4.3 JB), I get the same even while using Nova Launcher.

The thing is, these phones built by reputed manufactures utilize memory very efficiently compared to those built by let's say your local manufacture.

Damn I can see the difference between both phones now. Even that A900 have something 900 or 927mb memory. Nvm I am going for Moto G

a slight confusion

forgive me if I am asking a stupid question but I really need to confirm..
you had an xt1033 and u installed xt1032 firmware on it and it really worked like a single sim..??
and then did you have any bugs while installing roms made for the single sim version.??
Actually I am also considering moto g as my next choice but only dual sim variant is available here.

To make things simple:
Flashing the XT1032 (Single SIM) Motorola Stock Firmware on XT1033 should work fine and you will have no bugs.
Flashing a Custom ROM can cause you to experience many bugs.
I suggest you stay with Stock Firmware for some time to begin with, and then you will have a better perspective on how well the Custom ROMs do or do not work.

[Q] Moto G Removing Dual Sim icon

Hey guys!
It's not like a I'm a noob or something..I did own a Galaxy Ace previous and I have surely done a lot of experiments on it.
So,I just got a Moto G XT1033 from India (That's where I live). So it was like I was forced to buy the Dual SIM edition as there is no Single SIM edition available.
So I wanted to know if you could remove that 2nd SIM Icon on top by any way without rooting ?
I don't wanna root my phone soo soon maybe after a few months.
Thank you !
Just curious . Is the single SIM variant better than a dual SIM variant in any way ? I would think other way around

It's totally similar.
But yeah if you use both the sim slots..there would be a great battery consumption. That's like a obvious in almost every dual-sim device.
So, Enjoy your dual Sim even if you use only one for now. Why even bother with the query?

I saw a previous post that said to put your SIM into 2nd slot and then switch aeroplane mode on and off. It would hide the dual SIM status
Simply flash the single sim stock firmware. Did it on mine instead of rooting just to hide an unwanted icon for "design" purposes.

There is no other way other than rooting. Personally I changed mine not only for the icon's sake but also for the freakin' updates that took nearly 3 weeks to arrive in the dual sim variant in Brazil after the single sim started. Up to you buddy.

To those who want to try my primitive method:
Step 1 -Insert your one and only SIM card in 2nd slot.
Step 2 - Power ON and switch ON the Airplane mode then OFF Airplane mode back.
Step 3 - Walla! 1st SIM icon should be disappear.
Note:
* If you ON WiFi the 1st SIM icon will be back but just ON Mobile Data will be OK.
** You can repeat Step 2 to make it disappear again after OFF WiFi.

There's no need for a custom rom, simply flash the stock XT1032 and it works wonders.
It worked perfectly for me at first even with WiFi but after I restarted the phone it won't work...
is it only for Moto G?

Xposed Module to disable ugly VZW 4G icon

version 1.1 is up, leaving 1.0 up as well until i have a few people confirm 1.1 works for them (if 1.0 worked for you, 1.1 should work as well...i've been running it on my phone for a few days now without any issues). this new version will allow you to choose (via a preference in the module) whether you want the 4G icon or the LTE icon...
note: my phone is a vzw dev edition, running 4.4.2...although based on initial reports in the thread, it seems (and from my own remembering how the old version was) that this should also work on 4.4.0.
usual disclaimer, i'm not responsible if you break something. i've been running it on my phone and it has been working great...if there's a problem with it, please let me know (this is my first time attempting something like this).

confirmed working on:
Verizon Moto X (both retail and Developer Edition)
European Moto X (XT1052)
GSM Developer Edition Moto X (XT1053)
Moto G (confirmed in Germany, stock ROM)
changelog:
v1.1 (3/11/2014)
- added option to select either 4G icon or LTE icon (in preferences, requires a reboot after changing)
- removed android-support library, greatly reduced file size
v1.0 (3/9/2014)
- initial release
Seems to work fine for me. Any way to make the status bar icons lose there shade? Like on asop roms you can change the transparency not of the status bar bit the tint that goes over the icons. Get rid of this crap gray look ya know?

thanks, added the retail Moto X to the confirmed working list in the OP...and you're welcome!
Thanks! Works great (also on VZW non-DE).
You might want to remove the android support library next time to cut down on the APK file size since its not needed.

good call! this is all a learning experience for me, i'll try to get that done for the second release...
This is great! I hate seeing that huge 4G LTE icon. It's a Verizon ad in my status bar and take up too much space.
Thought I'd try this on my LG G2 but when I try to open the downloaded apk I get a parsr error. "There is a problem parsing this package"

Tested and working flawlessly on European Moto X (XT1052). I literally unlocked and rooted just to get rid of the carrier and the ugly motorola icons, to get the most nexus-looking device i could get.
Thanks man!!! Keep up the good work!!! :good:

not sure what's going on (and i have no way of testing it since i don't have a G2) ...maybe they use a different method of including the carrier 4G icon? that's a complete guess though on my part, and i'm not sure why it would throw that error on installation rather than just not working...
random questions...are you sure you didn't get a corrupted download? do you have the xposed framework installed?

i don't know that i can be of any help then...i'll note in the OP that the G2 is a no-go, but i can't really fix something I can't test (and I really only wrote this for the moto x to begin with...any other devices it works for would just be a happy coincidence).

It's not really, from what I know, it also depends on the availability of the latest software with them, which needs to be coordinated beforehand. In any case, I'll be finding out soon at the Bangalore SVC, since the Kolkata one didn't have the 1.26.720.5 too. I want my phone to be up to date. They are not even pushing out OTA. This is bull****, I'll create a ruckus if they say no update is available. :/

He has got the Update because he Using reliance CDMA. This update should be carrier based update. .. and hope that's others didn't receive...
It isn't carrier based. My phone was on a newer firmware to begin with. I didn't buy it from the carrier anyway.
Lollipop update corrupted
On my HTC E8 dual SIM Indian phone (bought from Flipkart at 32k), I checked for update and got 1.25.720.5. After updating successfully, checked again and updated 1.25.720.6 too. The next check said Lollipop update 2.33.720.3 (863.75 MB) available. Ever since then (yesterday), I've downloaded the update three times unsuccessfully. After completion, which sometimes takes 6-8 hours, it says the update file is corrupted, and to download again. I started the download for fourth time.
Question: Anyone else facing/faced similar problem? What's the remedy?
I have done NO software tweaks on my phone since purchase.
Thanks in advance.

I use to have a problem with sim 2 before the update.
Whenever i try to check balance on sim2 (airtel) using *123# i use to get error , BUT after the latest update it is fixed.
Njoy!

Finally got SIM working Single SIM only (thanks @moha07 for testing)
CDMA compatible (Thanks @mightysween )
I don't think Paranoid Android needs much of an explanation.
For now there are not many features.
its stable enough for a daily driver
I'll continue support until officials start rolling out for the Moto G

We can round up plenty of CDMA testers.
Pretty sure data will not work due to SIM dependency (subId being set to -1)... it will say "NO SIM" and not allow data despite pulling PRL, MIN/MDN and registering on the network.
It was fixed to work with CM12 (now various builds) and also the Boost soak test... so it can be done!
I will download and test/logcat this build just so you can take a look and decide if it is something you have time to tackle. Thanks!
UPDATE: well, scratch that... 3G works just fine (xt1031 on PagePlus).
I am more confused than ever
Data is not working on any AOSP based firmware I have tried, and not on any other AOSP based ROMs either.
Will check out the device tree and see what is making this tick.
Meanwhile, this is hands down a totally different experience than CM12 on this device. Drastic and noticeable difference, in a good way.
UPDATE2: dev tree includes @ meticulus and @CodyF86 CDMA fixes from cyanogenmod... They obviously work out of the box in AOSP. Nice.

Thanks for testing, that's great to hear it works I'll add that to OP
The carrier and status shows "Roaming Indicator Off" but this is pretty normal for Moto G cdma ROMs since CM10. Some people cant handle it though... So, you may want to include that caveat in the OP to avoid the inevitable dozen questions about it
Sent from my Moto G using XDA Free mobile app
The code that ended up fixing data was straight from the 5.1 aosp code merge, so that's why data is already working or should be.
Add some ERI overlays to get rid of the roaming indicator off...you can check my github, to automagically set carriers you have to get a little crazier, but all the info is there.

Waiting for dual sim, hopes soon dual sim will be supported
Ahhh, AOSP... good old basic AOSP. How I have missed you.
For me, there is no comparison to CM12. Everything works better from memory management to push notifications to wifi/3g handoffs. As a result, battery is significantly better.
Thanks, I am finally off of stock 4.4.4

First off I have no intention at all of taking over this project. Wanted to share this working build without hijacking someone elses thread. Based on the original work of @squid2 for Perry and @SeanStar for Owens I have fixed/tweaked a few things so you all can keep your devices running up to date and stable. It will work even after the taking latest stock ota updates or flashing the latest firmware. I'll keep this updated at least once a month until hopefully the original dev releases something better.
Known working:
Booting
Graphics and video playback
RIL
Connecting to GSM (not for XT1766 which is CDMA only) and CDMA networks, calls, and data (LTE, 3G) (Supporting US and Canada carriers only)
Fingerprint sensor (Sprint models don't have this)
Camera
Audio
WiFi
Sensors
GPS
FM Radio
Untested or possibly broken
CM Actions removed
Changelog:
Code:
11-17-2018-
-All audio now working.
-Fixed cdma data/LTE. Works on first boot without any additional fixes.
-Added missing firmware symlinks to fix data after latest stock radio updates.
-Added correct device specific power_profile.xml.
-Changed governor settings to closer reflect stock values and balance out performance and battery life.
-Probably a few other things I'm forgetting.
11-19-2018-
-FM Radio really fixed now

Trying. It's a good phone. Don't want to see everyone abandon it and go by a new one before @squid2 finishes doing his thing.

I'm not sure why. I'll take a look but I'm pretty sure all the FM radio stuff is in the qcom318-32 tree so I thought since it's working on my E4 plus it was on perry also. I had someone testing on perry who was also asking for that working and I was under the impression it was working, but I'll check it out asap.
Edit: I'm sorry. My testers didn't say anything and I just looked again and see what's wrong. I'll have another build up that should have it working in a few hrs or so. I apologize, I've got a baby coming on the 26th on the brain.
@mn1968 flash this zip. It should get the FM radio working for you. Let me know please.

If you were patient and waited a fee minutes or so you should have data. If it doesn't work let me know and I'll remove it.
Edit: I've had numerous users test it that told me it works

If your trying to use it with Sprint or Boost in the US it should work. You said you tried another sim card. Let me guess, your trying to use it on a GSM network in India or something like this user

It's not supposed to be but I'll try to make it work. I'm making another build without all the CDMA LTE fixes and hopefully it will work. I'm not sure I even want to do this but I'll try. I don't get why people think a CDMA phone bought in the US will work on GSM. As soon as it's done and uploaded I'll post a link.

Great work!!! Do you have a local manifest that I can use to build this myself?
Thanks.
Also I have a issue on my current lineage 14.1 perry build that all call audio is through the speaker and is very loud.
Any idea for quick fixes? I checked the mixer_paths and other 2 xml files in /system/etc and they look right.
Any ideas?

My build posted in the op? If so, there is one audio file I can try adding. Actually, here's a zip you can try flashing.
Edit: manifest
https://github.com/JasonM45/perry_local_manifest/blob/jasonm45/roomservice.xml
If your running someone else's build which I'm pretty sure you are because I fixed that problem you'll need to flash the zip titled E4_audio_fix
