[Q] OTA problem (missing audible file) - Verizon HTC One (M8)

s-off and rooted - firewater
recovery - CMW then reverted to stock (using zip from xda)
tried to apply OTA but got an error message:
"/system/app/VZW_Amazon_Audible.apk" has unexpected contents ... installation aborted.
I have gone and looked at the folder, and it does not have that file in it. I have previously uninstalled most of the Verizon bloatware, but I didn't remove any apk files manually. All the other Verizon apks seem to be there fine, just this one is missing.
Anybody can help? Please!

about this => I have previously uninstalled most of the Verizon bloatware, but I didn't remove any apk files manually ==> explain that. You need a complete stock ROM either use one found as a nand backup in the verizon m8 threads or use your own backup to return to stock. then try the ota. that should fix it

Thanks for the quick response. I understand I could do that, but that's an awful lot of work to get one file back. I might just go straight to one of the updated custom rom's. Thanks anyway!

I can get you an audible apk. That's all this man needs.

[Q] Can't Update!

OK, so I finally got the system update for the D2G yesterday. I'm not new to this whole game, so I removed Clockworkmod, unrooted, and installed the update. The update downloads fine, but the with the little Android guy screen, I get an "!" in a triangle and then the phone reboots.
Maybe I didn't remove clockwork all the way? Don't you delete hijack and logwrapper, and then rename the logwrapper.bin to logwrapper?
well basiclly the phone needs to be untouch in terms of the file structure, in my case, I deleted a few of the stock apk files and when I tried to do the update it would fail because the stock apps were missing and the update is a patch not a full system OS so it cant install the default apps, I had to install them back to the system/app with root explorer and then set the permissions back to what they needed to be, unforchenitly a hard reset would not install the stock apps. Also make sure anything that the root touched has been set back to default
I have the same problem too. I can't get the update to work at all after installing Fission ROM. I even restored from a nandroid from a fresh D2G. It worked fine on the untouched phone tho. I checked all the files in the /system/app and they were there. Is there any magical restore .zip perhaps?
If anyone is looking for the update: http://dump.no/files/2501381a2bd4/Blur_Version.2.4.29.A956.Verizon.en.US.zip MD5: a493e4efc9d27c8932d604806f817a85

I never touched anything... I stopped using Titanium Backup a long time ago when I uninstalled everything verizon and had the same OTA problem you described. I am at a loss for the problem that I have! All I ever did was root and put on clockwork, and I made sure they were gone when I updated.
Please, someone help!
did you uninstall of freeze any of the stock apps in /system/app? You need to restore them in order to successfully apply the OTA update. One file missing or modified in /system and checksums will fail/update fails.

the only time I touched anything in /system was when I removed clockwork by deleting hijack and renaming logwrapper.bin. Can anyone give me a number of files I'm supposed to have in /system, or maybe a way to go back to stock. Man, that SBF would be mighty helpful right now...
There is system dump laying around. I'll PM you the link (not sure if appropriate to post it here). You can use it to compare content and recover missing file(s).

Hi, I've been trying to find an answer, and I think you could help me.
I had the same problem as this person you were helping, but I already knew that I should look through the system dump and compare. I did that, and deleted one file called dbus.conf from /system/ect. Now, my phone just does the DROID animation over and over again! Please help, I made a copy of dbus.conf on my computer and did a nandroid backup. Please, you or someone else on here, HELP!
So you are in a boot loop. If you can't get the phone to boot into clockwork recovery, today is your lucky day! SBF was finally released!!! Get the SBF and reflash /system

Where is it? Isn't it only available to those with some app called TBH (or something like that)? And now I have to wait for a public release? And, if I'm wrong, can you give me a link to thee file? I can't find it anywhere...
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!
I would recommend you to approach the team black hat members and talk to them directly about how to get the sbf while your phone is non functional.

But where is the system update located? I checked on the verizon website and there is nothing there. Also, do you have to be a verizon customer to get the update?

[Q] update 2.3.2 failed, error in official map deleted.

I deleted official google maps 5.0 by RE, modified instead. Unfortunately that when I update the system to 2.3.2 by hand, there was error " /system/app/maps.apk ... E: ERROR /tmp/sideload/package.zip", installation was failed.
What shall I do?
Somebody told me that the reason is "rooted", nothing about my maps. But my phone has stock recovery & rom, only rooted by superboot......

Put back a copy of the original Google Maps apk for 2.3.1.
Or you can edit out the patch and instructions to patch in the update zip; then use CWM to flash the update so you don't get a signature failure on the flash..
In one of the 2.3.2 update threads on here there was a guy who had the same issue you are, only his was with the gmail apk. Search through those 2.3.2 update threads for more details if you need them.
Thanks, buddy!
Firstly I want to try your suggestion 1st, put back the google map official version. But I can't find it in google market!
Ok, I uninstalled the modified version map and put the official map back from market. But it seems the same problem.
1) install clockwork recovery
2)restore nandroid backup posted here
3) and u'll be fresh stock 2.3.1 ready for update.

He'll also lose all his customizations and app data...unless he remembers to use Titanium to back it all up first.
What version does the app from the market show as? It needs to be 5.0.0.

If someone had the original apk, couldn't he just use that?
Just went into root explorer and found this so hopefully it helps. Let me know if I should pull it from some where else.

Yes, that should work if your phone is on the same Gingerbread build as his (assuming he's 2.3.1), if you've upgraded to 2.3.2 it will be a problem. What's happening is the patch is failing for some reason, I'm assuming it's because some check on the file shows it's not the right one to patch. I'd need to re-read the update script for sure. I posted it one of the two update threads if someone has time to go through it. (I don't right now.)

@ OP, i tried to modify the update-script distortedloop posted on the above thread. all i did was delete verification of maps and patches to maps. you could replace it in the update.zip and flash through clockwork .
Question: What benefit do you get from your custom version of maps?

you would need to flash through clockwork cause you would need to toggle signature verification off. let me know if it works
I was having the same problem except with the market. I tried flashing it through clockwork but it didn't work. I then removed both parts of the script that checked vending.apk and it still didn't work. Next I just removed vending.apk from system/app then flashed the .zip in clockwork and it worked! The market still works fine and I still have root.

[Q] Help installing a stock app

I want to reinstall a stock app called Audio Postcard on my Galaxy S 4G, because I want to be able to update when a system update comes out, and I don't want to wait until then to frantically figure this out.
This is what I have tried:
I downloaded the files named: audiopostcard.apk and audiopostcard.odex and pushed them to system/app. They didn't have the right permissions or user and group, so I fixed that in Root Explorer and abd. The two files now have the right permission and user group assignments (root.root). I rebooted, but the app still won't show up. I have heard that as long as the files have the right permissions and user and group assignment then you don't have to install it. However, since it didn't show up I tried installing it, but it fails with the "not installed" message.
I tried to install it using adb, but I got the following error message:
./adb install /Android/AudioPostcard.apk
2125 KB/s (11202488 bytes in 5.147s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/AudioPostcard.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT]
I tried installing it by zipping the two files (audiopostcard.apk and audiopostcard.odex) together, putting it in the root directory of the SD card, rebooting into recovery and installing it, but I get the message:
E: signature verification failed
My phone is rooted, but I don't have clockworkmod installed. Do I need to do this to get the files to install?
Can someone help me with this?
TIA
My first question is, are you running a stock rom? did you flash either KB5 or KC1 rom from the development forum? Or, did you uninstall it yourself via Titanium or something?
someone else just created a thread with this as the Title.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939451
Yes, I'm running the stock rom. I haven't flashed either of those roms from the development forum.
Yes, I did uninstall via Titanium, but it happened in a weird way. I was doing a search in Titanium and clicked on Audio Postcard to uninstall, when it got to the uninstall screen, I told it to cancel, but when I went back to Titanium, it was gone. Weird. Thanks for your reply.
**Update**
I finally got it to install using birgertime's Bloater app. I had to jump through a few hoops to get it to work, and I go into that in that thread, but it is now installed. Thanks to birgertime and others who read this.
there is an application called bloater. its used for rooted phones to install/uninstall apps that come with the phone. its on the market for a dollar but its no longer on applanet. if you want i can get the apk from my phone later and upload it
let me know
hit thanks if it helped

[REQ] Stock 4.4 emailgoogle and exchange2google APK and ODEX files

I installed the modified email and exchange APKs to get around the PIN security without backing them up, bad move. Now I can't sideload the 4.4.2 OTA until I flash back to stock or put the stock email and exchange files back in system/apps. If someone would be so kind to post those files for me it would be greatly appreciated. :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:

No need to do any deleting.
Just delete the account from your phone, and then go into the app and delete the data and cache. That worked for me. The other thing you could do is just delete the EmailGoogle and Exchange APK's from your phone.
The new install with load the brand new versions. Then you will need to download the updated versions for 4.4.2 and you'll be all set.

Thanks for the thoughts but I tried that. Currently have the email and exchange apps removed and it still fails when flashing 4.2.2 OTA. From what I've read on the OTA Help Desk all the standard APKs need to be exactly as stock or it fails (which it does). From that OP:
Section C: Let’s get back to stock
You have two options to do this:
Option #1 Flash the KRT16M stock image. Follow @abaaaabbbb63 guide if you need help.
If you want to keep data intact flash only the boot.img, system.img, and recovery.img (optional)
OR
Option #2 Replace the stock images or .apk(s) you removed or modified.
Note: These must be the exact versions that shipped with the rom.

[Completed] [Q] Galaxy S3 cannot write to internal or ext sdcard!

Hello any help getting me closer to someplace I can find help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a used GS3 on Boost Mobile. the phone is running stock rom, in recovery mode it says it is
KOT49H.L710VPUDND8
Model SPH-L710
Baseband-L710VPUCNJ3
Build-KOT49H.L710VPUCNJ3
Android-4.4.2
No custom recovery installed!
No attempt at flashing any roms yet!
just rooted to do housecleaning .
I rooted using Chainfires CF-auto-root method, everything went correctly. I then updated Supersu to the latest Pro version. I did not uninstall any apps yet but did install a bunch. I installed Titanium Backup pro and did manage to backup everything before this issue started.
I noticed I had an issue with the extSdCard not being able to be used by TB and looked for a solution. I did add a line to /system/etc/permissions/platform.xml but it did not work so I returned it to normal. I then noticed I could no longer make backups TB was giving "insufficient storage" and failed. if i tried to change the backup location in TB I noticed the default now had a red folder with " cannot write to this location"
I know I may have changed something in the platform.xml by mistake or at least that should be the first place to look but I swear I made no mistakes while editing the file.
I have tried to create and delete folder and files on my internal sdcard using root enabled Es File Explorer but it fails everytime. on a side not I can create and delete from the extSdCard.
I feel this will only get worse if not fixed please point me to the correct place for help! Thanks
Oh and I did post this question in the Sprint/gs3/q&a help forum.
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. The Sprint Q&Q forum is the proper place to post this as you've already done. So I'm going to close this thread.
