[Q] Help installing a stock app - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I want to reinstall a stock app called Audio Postcard on my Galaxy S 4G, because I want to be able to update when a system update comes out, and I don't want to wait until then to frantically figure this out.
This is what I have tried:
I downloaded the files named: audiopostcard.apk and audiopostcard.odex and pushed them to system/app. They didn't have the right permissions or user and group, so I fixed that in Root Explorer and abd. The two files now have the right permission and user group assignments (root.root). I rebooted, but the app still won't show up. I have heard that as long as the files have the right permissions and user and group assignment then you don't have to install it. However, since it didn't show up I tried installing it, but it fails with the "not installed" message.
I tried to install it using adb, but I got the following error message:
./adb install /Android/AudioPostcard.apk
2125 KB/s (11202488 bytes in 5.147s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/AudioPostcard.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT]
I tried installing it by zipping the two files (audiopostcard.apk and audiopostcard.odex) together, putting it in the root directory of the SD card, rebooting into recovery and installing it, but I get the message:
E: signature verification failed
My phone is rooted, but I don't have clockworkmod installed. Do I need to do this to get the files to install?
Can someone help me with this?
TIA

My first question is, are you running a stock rom? did you flash either KB5 or KC1 rom from the development forum? Or, did you uninstall it yourself via Titanium or something?
someone else just created a thread with this as the Title.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939451

Yes, I'm running the stock rom. I haven't flashed either of those roms from the development forum.
Yes, I did uninstall via Titanium, but it happened in a weird way. I was doing a search in Titanium and clicked on Audio Postcard to uninstall, when it got to the uninstall screen, I told it to cancel, but when I went back to Titanium, it was gone. Weird. Thanks for your reply.
**Update**
I finally got it to install using birgertime's Bloater app. I had to jump through a few hoops to get it to work, and I go into that in that thread, but it is now installed. Thanks to birgertime and others who read this.

there is an application called bloater. its used for rooted phones to install/uninstall apps that come with the phone. its on the market for a dollar but its no longer on applanet. if you want i can get the apk from my phone later and upload it
let me know
hit thanks if it helped

i just installed the latest tnt update, but can't get the market back on the tablet

hey, first off, i'm a complete noob when it comes to rooting. however, i followed the instruction that you provided to root the viewsonic tablet below and it worked great. thank you very much for that. it was really helpful.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=865245&page=3
anyway, the first time i did it with tnt lite 2.2 everything worked out great. i had flash installed and market. however, i saw that there was a new release of tnt by viewsonic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882521
so i downloaded that and followed the same instructions as above for rooting it. i got the rom to work just fine, however, now i have a problem with getting the android market back on the tablet.
basically, when i go to the manage apps and try to force stop market and google services framework, they're not there. furthermore, when i go to the ti, there's just overview, no backup/restore any more. i'm not sure what to do now. can you please help me. thank you very much. i've tried searching how to fix it and tried to install the tegra gapps, but it kept on aborting the installation. the more post's i read, the more confused i get about what i need to do.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842590
Link to install tegra gapps and instructions
yes, i saw this post and tried it. downloaded the tegra file per instrustions, saved the downloaded file to sd card. turned of the tablet, got to recovery, went to install zip from sdcard, tried apply sdcard:update.zip and it just abort's because no file exists. i tried renaming the downloaded file as "update" and doing it, but it doesn't work. what am i doing wrong.
i opened the zip file and it contains two folders
1. system
2. meta-inf
when i did a recovery with the cwmod_v08.zip file originally, it contained
1. recovery folder
2. update.zip
could there be something missing in the first zip file?
Don't unzip the tegra gapps. In the clockwork menu there is a way to select what zip you want to install. Choose that option and then select the gapps file. The gapps file has to be on the internal sdcard.
man, i just spent over 1.5 hours reading the forum to figure this out and it was this easy. my mistake was that i was installing it on the external sd card. lol. it helps to know what you're doing.
thanks for the help. it seems to have worked.
No prob....glad you figured it out
one more issue now. i got the tegra gapps installed. however, when i go to TI to do backup/recovery, the option is not there. also, when i open ti backup for the first time, it says "sorry, i could not acquire root priveleges. this application will not work, please verify that your rom is rooted and includes Busybox, and try again"
how can i fix this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
this will get you you root
how do i install it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=446145&d=1290341328
download it and click on it...it's an installable apk. Then open it and press the big root button
i think i'm going back to tnt lite 3.0. this update sucks. not everything is working right. youtube the app won't even open and some other apps too. the youtube video from the actual website keep clitching. i keep getting force closes randomly. after all the time i wasted on this, it's funny that the roms provided by the xda community are still better. thank for your help.

[Q] Superuser Force Closing

I just rooted my Inspire. I'm trying to flash a ROM for the first time using ROM Manager. It says I need CWM Recovery installed before continuing. But it is installed as far as I can tell, it is. There's a folder for it on the SD card. I tried using Flash ClockworkMod Recovery and it causes Superuser to force close.
I've search every string of words I can think of and none of the threads coming up are related to my issue. Fast Boot is off. Debugging is on. I'm new to flashing ROMs, so I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing, but it is REALLY pissing me off.
One of the threads did mention a superuser zip file needing to be in the root directory of the SD card. I don't see one in mine, so I won't be shocked if that's the problem. But then, it becomes a matter of finding where to download that zip.
Please help.

You need to reinstall su.
It's not letting me install it for whatever reason.
There is a certain irony that running "Fix Permissions" to solve the force close issue CAUSES Superuser to force close.
did you unzip the file? What rom are you running? Do have sdk?
I unzipped the file. Moved to the SD. Tried installing it from there. Yes, I have permissions set to install from non-market sources.
I'm running, presumably, the AT&T stock ROM, unless the Simple Root S-Off program installed something different.
Don't know the answer to the SDK question.
Have you tried to clear out the 'data' for 'Superuser' application under application settings?

As said try clearing data and cache.
If that doesn't work.
Uninstall su.
Download anrdoid SDK
Cope all the files from platform tools to tools
place su apk in tools folder
shift+right click on the tools folder, open command promp
use adb to push apk
Code:
adb devices( make sure it is connected)
adb remount
adb push ./(name of app) /system/app
Here's a possible reason I'm having a problem.
When I did the root, I used a spare SD card to make the gold card. I've been trying to flash a ROM with my regular SD card. Could that be what's causing it?

no, the gold card is only needed to downgrade the radio/rom and pass the CID check.
So here's where I'm at....
It won't let me install the superuser fix above.
It won't let me uninstall superuser.
I even purchased the pro version for the Market, hoping that it might install a version over the version flashed there and that doesn't force close every freaking time I try to do anything in ROM manager.
In the meantime, I miss about 50% of the texts, emails and notifications on my phone because, of course, I don't HEAR them. And the bloatware is bogging down the phone.
So, are there any suggestions before I walk outside and throw this phone into the Atlantic Ocean?

[Q] Lost Android Market!!

I have a Motorola Photon, and I had tried to get the old Market backet back with a process I found in the forum. It didn't work, and somewhere along the line I lost the Market all together. I tried wiping the phone back to factory and the Market app did not come back. I tried to just install a version from 4Shared, but still doesn't work with any version I install. It says that "com.android.vending has quit unexpectedly" and then it FC's. It only seems to do this when I go to download an app. I can browse and search fine with no problems, just no downloading!! I admit I'm a noob, and probably messed with something I shouldn't, but I figured this would be a nondestructive thing to learn on. Man was I wrong!! This sucks...please help me!!
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Yes...I was rooted but no custom rom. I don't know how to do that yet. This is going to sound stupid, but what exactly is a custom rom? After I wiped to factory condition I tried to install a vending.apk from 4shared and that still gives me same error. I will uninstall again and try a market.apk now. Is that the same as vending.apk?
A factory reset will only delete user data, it won't put back something that has been removed. You need to get the vending apk for the version you want and instead of installing it normally put it in /system/app. You can do so using Root Explorer or another root level file explorer. If you don't have one installed, I can post the apk of a free one for you. Mount system as r/w and copy/paste the apk into /system/app, then set permissions to rw-r--r--, then reboot. You should have your market back up & running.

That's what I originally tried to do and didn't work, but I will try it again...If you could post an apk of the market you know is good that would be great. Can u post an apk of a root explorer also? I havent checked 4shared yet. Is there another free download service other than 4shared? Thanks for your help!!
Just download Market and install it. If it FC then check the permissions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231290
(It's the new market btw. I know you don't want it, but you don't really have a choice at the moment)
Ok so this is weird!! I left the Market that wasn't working installed by mistake. I installed the OTA update that Motorola did, and then re-rooted my phone again. Now the Market is working for the most part!!! Only thing is...it FC's every time iot installs an app. It downloads and installs, but right after it installs it FC's!! It doesn't always close all the way...sometimes just goes to Market home screen. All the functionality seems to be working though, so I can deal with that.
Does anybody know why after the OTA update I can only get EDGE instead of 3G on a Rogers SIM card?
Did you clear Google Services Framework data and Market data?

Unable to delete bloatware from phone

Hello, I've made a threat not so long ago
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/xda-assist/rooted-delete-bloatware-t3058272
I'm still unable to delete apps, as u might know, lenovo a850 comes with many useless chineese apps. I have disabled/frozen them, now I'm missing some internal memory.
I rooted my phone with framaroot, installed supersu.
then I tried removing apps with Es file explorer, I gained superuser access to it, and to all apps below, but "operation failed" . Same thing happened to Root explorer.
Later on, I have downloaded no bloat, It says "(app) deleted" but when I exit app and come back in, the app is still there. Same thing is with Titanium backup, I can select uninstall app, it fake uninstalled it, but when I reboot my phone, app is still there, no mater what I do.
Also, I tried using recovery exploit, phone reboots, but the app(s) still remain there
If anyone had same or similar issue, I would've really appreciate any help.
I can provide more info, about build, etc.

Try root browser and locate the apps mostly it's in system/apps ....and delete the apk and restart ur phone ...

Tried it, still, apps are there
Now, I managed to find why it is unable to delete apps, because permissions.
However i can't change them either. Using total commander, es file explorer or using terminal, every time I get the same error.

First thing first,
WHY...WHY DO YOU MANUALLY DELETE IT?
No offense bud, but yeah after you did that, you missed its registry, permissions, licenses and crap.
Ever heard about Uninstaller[ROOT]?
Ever?
This app saves your LIFE,PHONE and ITS LONGEVITY. This app also indicates what app you should delete, what you shouldn't.:good:

Do you actually got root access? You should make the Uninstaller app to ALWAYS GRANT and try again. If no success screenshot me the error popup you are facing.
The thing is, there is no error showing, after "deleting" app, it disappears, but after re-running app, it appears again. The thing is I cannon't change r/w access on .apk files in system/app folder. Even using apps that can change permissions and after granting them.superuser access, I'm unable to change it. On my old phone, after rooting my phone I could easily delete .apk filrs using ES file browser.
Thanks for replying

Unknown volume huh? Can you execute it? If you can't, I guess you can clean it up by using SD Maid. If the app is even functional....
"WTF? Is this hardware level?"
I would say the abruptly choice to is to COMPLETE WIPE (ROM,kernel, bootloader) and install new ROM. That's my level of expertise, no beyond that.
I mean, something glitched your volumes that they registered empty in kernel but not in the software, or a triple-A type of administration crapware that's preloaded within the ROM which, "BY ANY MEANS...TOP SECURITY SYSTEM APP PROTECTION PREVENTS ANY SOFTWARE-LEVEL DATA TERMINATIONS! ENSURES APPS ARE IN FACTORY STATE, NO MATTER WHATEVER LEVEL OF BREACH INJECTION! DESIGNED BY CHINA COMPANIES! PROVIDED TO YOU!"....
Well that thing actually exists, FYI, and that's the working theory right now.
In addition, try logging via CatLog, cause that is very little log lines for me to decipher.

Titanium backup fails on restoring instagram, now cannot install from market or apk

I had tried restoring instagram from titanium backup, but it wouldn't complete because at the time I had the mount namespace issue.
I fixed that, restored everything, and everything worked.
I recently tried to use instagram on my phone, only to realize it wasn't there. I tried restoring it back again from titanium backup, and it kept hanging forever.
Now I try to install it from google play, and it says "can't install app." The error code is -506.
So I try to manually install the apk through package manager, and it says:
"out of space."
Which is not accurate.
What am I missing here? There's no com.instagram.android in /data/apk. I am wondering if the "bundle id" is registered somewhere and I need to remove it, or something?

There was another thread about this, in which a solution helped 3 or 4 people who couldn't download different apps due to 506 error:
"If you use a root explorer, goto data/data, there are dead files in there under google music, or talk, delete them , then try to reinstall from play store, worked perfectly for me and killed the 506 error, these are from past error installs and Android thinks the app is still installed. I personally use root explorer and within all the actual blue file folders under data/data, the corrupt ones showed as white unknown files, if I helped hit thanks.... These are actually like leftover residual file fragments from a prior intall, that for some reason Android 5.0+ doesn't clean out, tombstones"

Man, there was a com.instagram.android 0k file there.
I deleted it and it worked. I don't know how I missed that in the search. I was already digging around that directory.
Thanks!
