I have a Motorola Photon, and I had tried to get the old Market backet back with a process I found in the forum. It didn't work, and somewhere along the line I lost the Market all together. I tried wiping the phone back to factory and the Market app did not come back. I tried to just install a version from 4Shared, but still doesn't work with any version I install. It says that "com.android.vending has quit unexpectedly" and then it FC's. It only seems to do this when I go to download an app. I can browse and search fine with no problems, just no downloading!! I admit I'm a noob, and probably messed with something I shouldn't, but I figured this would be a nondestructive thing to learn on. Man was I wrong!! This sucks...please help me!!
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Yes...I was rooted but no custom rom. I don't know how to do that yet. This is going to sound stupid, but what exactly is a custom rom? After I wiped to factory condition I tried to install a vending.apk from 4shared and that still gives me same error. I will uninstall again and try a market.apk now. Is that the same as vending.apk?
A factory reset will only delete user data, it won't put back something that has been removed. You need to get the vending apk for the version you want and instead of installing it normally put it in /system/app. You can do so using Root Explorer or another root level file explorer. If you don't have one installed, I can post the apk of a free one for you. Mount system as r/w and copy/paste the apk into /system/app, then set permissions to rw-r--r--, then reboot. You should have your market back up & running.

That's what I originally tried to do and didn't work, but I will try it again...If you could post an apk of the market you know is good that would be great. Can u post an apk of a root explorer also? I havent checked 4shared yet. Is there another free download service other than 4shared? Thanks for your help!!
Just download Market and install it. If it FC then check the permissions.

(It's the new market btw. I know you don't want it, but you don't really have a choice at the moment)
Ok so this is weird!! I left the Market that wasn't working installed by mistake. I installed the OTA update that Motorola did, and then re-rooted my phone again. Now the Market is working for the most part!!! Only thing is...it FC's every time iot installs an app. It downloads and installs, but right after it installs it FC's!! It doesn't always close all the way...sometimes just goes to Market home screen. All the functionality seems to be working though, so I can deal with that.
Does anybody know why after the OTA update I can only get EDGE instead of 3G on a Rogers SIM card?
Did you clear Google Services Framework data and Market data?

I'm not sure if the OP is a troll, or just stupid... How hard is it to give ACCURATE information on what you are trying to do.
Trolled. Perhaps.
Troll or not , I have had this issue when trying to update apps. I haven't really figured out what's causing apps not to load. I get "app not installed, no usb or SD card found".
Ill be vague just like the op. Here's what you do clear cache and defaults on the market.

Yeah, I've had the same problem, but usually just trying to update the app again works (at least, for me).

I get it when the download interrupts and the file is corrupted. So it can't install. I usually just redownload and its fine.
Try unmounting ur SD card, then installing. I had a problem awhile back with specific apps and that fixed it.

I am having the same problem and it is driving me insane. I have cleared cache in the market. I have rebooted, reflashed, reset to factory, Took out the SD card, put it back in, unmounted it, booted without it.
It doesn't matter what rom I flashed as I have tried several. I just restored my phone with CWM to a backup I made right after I first rooted and the market still doesn't work.
Are you rooted?? Its most likely a bad previous install that needs to be removed first which can be quite troubling because some show that they aren't installed when in actuality they are just not properly. IF YOU ARE ROOTED try using Titanium Backup Root to remove the bad install.

yeah, I am rooted. have been for a while. I have flashed and used several roms/ kernals etc. The thing is, even if I reset the phone to factory it still does it. I went into Titanium, what or how do I find a bad install?? Is there something to look for?

Possibly the ROM's included the app but have a bad install inside the ROM. I seen this issue with a couple apps specifically FLASH PLAYER. Which app are you having issues with?? When in Titanium Backup go to the Backup/Restore section and it should show all of your installed applications..scroll to see if the application you are trying to install is on the list...if so uninstall it. If this doesn't work its possible there is a previous apk file on your phone of this app which is corrupting the download which can be removed with an app like "ROOT EXPLORER" unfortunately it costs money. To do that you would venture into the system/app folder and delete the apk file if in fact there is one in there. To check to see if there is one most file explorers will allow you to go into these folders but you cannot access anything.

I have Root Explorer. Thanks. seems this is a common problem after searching google. No know solution as everyone has got theirs to work doing something different. I have not made any backups with Titanium as the roms I have used auto re-installed everything. I am wondering if it has something to do with that. Any time I flash a rom now, it says "starting download" for all my apps in the market. They never start though.
it's working now. not sure what I did though. I wiped everything and flashed BAMF remix (what I was using originally) and when I went through the setup I did everything like I did before. Only thing I changed when swapping roms was I would not set up my HTC account in the setup.
I'm not rooted (yet!) and I've been having the same problem with the market for the last two days. Probably half the apps I bought/downloaded hung on authorizing. When finally authorized it took quite a while to download and show under my apps. One took almost an hour to show up. Email notifications were also delayed. Tried clearing the cache but that didn't help...

Yep, I I accidentally the whole thing. I clicked the wrong button in TIBU.
Anyways, I got the phone yesterday, updated it to 2.3.6, and rooted it, but otherwise left it alone. I just rooted so I could restore my apps from my previous phone with TIBU. I did not restore data. Today, I was trying to fix an issue I was having with accounts and sync, and I meant to freeze it, but I hit uninstall and wasn't paying attention to the prompts, so it uninstalled it. It was backed up, but I can't re-install it. I even found the app's .apk in system/app folder, and tried to re-install it but it will not, it just tries for like a second and then says "Not installed". The option is now missing from my settings menu.
I would really like a way to fix it without having to wipe and re-install the OS, but if I have to I can.
nb4 "did you search?" yes, I did. I couldn't find anything that helped.
Thanks in advance, everyone.
Download a rom for your phone thats2.3.6 and unzip it. Go into system/app and take the apk that u need. Push it to your system/app folder with root explore. Change permissions to the ones on the pic and reboot and u should be good.

I pushed the file and changed permissions to exactly as shown in the picture, and it still came back with "application not installed"
Edit: DERP, big time derp, forgot to reboot. one minute.
Edit 2: changed permissions, rebooted, still would not install.

I did that, but the Applications and Sync option is not there.
If I did a recovery update to 2.3.6 again, would that fix it perhaps? or will it not let me update it that way since it's already on 2.3.6?

Actually, I did just that, and it fixed it! sigh. I wish I had thought of that right away. Now I'm back to my original problem that I was trying to fix, though. When i try to add my facebook account in accounts and sync, I click on add account, select the facebook icon, and it just goes back to the previous page without doing anything.
Oh well. At least I got the big problem fixed, thank you for helping.

reflash whatever rom you currently have, but don't wipe the data/factory reset. Since the file you need is in the system folder it'll rewrite.

I just ran the 2.3.6 update again. It fixed it, but it turns out that the problem I was trying to fix in the first place which led me to uninstall the app was not a problem at all, it was google locking out facebook sync on nexus S meh, whatever. I only did it for the pictures anyways. Thanks though!
I ve removed some system apps like twitter n flickr. Can i update my device to the version v55.13.25 from the previous firmware without any issues ???
How did you remove the apps? Its better to freeze them and defrost before an official update. If it were me and I'd removed the apps completely and I liked where my phone was at and I didn't wanna flash the fxz I'd find those apps and re-install them. If you go that route make sure your permissions are correct when you place the apps back into the system folder.
The End.
Okay I've zipped the twitter and Flickr files and uploaded to my drop box if you want them. They're stock odex files. The two files for each app (.apk and. odex) are in folders. So after extracting their folders you can place the files in /system/app folder and change permissions once there. Let me know if you want the links to the downloads.
The End.
I just noticeD you're from India. You might want files from the India ROM yes? Are you on stock odex or a custom ROM?
The End.

Removed them through system app remover. Will a hard reset restore those apps? Its an ATT model with their firmware not the Indian one..
Oh I see. I don't know what I was thinking. You can do a factory reset to get those back. You will loose all of your data in the process so backup your data and only format your SD card if you have that all stuff backed up to a PC.
The End.
Wait. What's "system app remover"? Is that an app? I'm confused. I've done so much to this phone with swapping ROMs and moving system files around via Root Browser that I'm not even clear about your issue.
FWIW I've recently come full circle and currently use the stock 2.3.6 odexed ROM. I use Twitter and Flickr too. Sorry. I think I've confused myself here ha-ha. Somebody please address the OP. lol.

Yes! it`s an app...To be clear i uninstalled those apps after rooting my A2 with the "system app remover" . Will the OTA update work even though the
i`ve removed those apps beacause the update might be for those apps as well and will i lose root if updated to the new firmware
NO, do not try the update if you have deleted any system .apk's.
This is probably the easiest way to do it:
1) Install CWM through the bootstrapper if you haven't done so yet.
2) Boot into CWM and make a backup
3) Flash the fxz (scroll down a bit)
4) Once the phone boots up, log in to your google account and do whatever else you need to do. DO NOT uninstall any applications (even if they're uninstallable) and DO NOT root.
5) Go to Settings -> About Phone -> Software update. Make sure you're connected to wifi and install the update!
6) Once your phone has updated, re-root it, install CWM, and restore the backup you made.
Hope this helps, good luck!
Yup. What cogeary said. How embarrassing. Its just been one of those days where I should just keep my mouth shut. Not in a bad way. It IS my birthday, and the moon is closer to the Earth than it will be for a good while. Ha-ha. Seriously, cogeary knows his stuff.

You don't need to download a whole ROM for one apk. The third link in my signature has all the stock GB apks. You likely need to reflash anyways or add back the apk's you deleted until you get market working. You probably deleted an apk the market needs in order to run. I've done that a few times. You can flash back to stock using the guide in the second link of my signature.
Next time instead of deleting the apk's rename them putting a '.bak' on the end of the file name then test how the phone does. That way you can remove the '.bak' if something goes wrong and determine what caused it.

Start over. It will take too long to walk you through the non reflashing way. Follow the guide in the second link of my signature. It will put you back on Stock unrooted GB. Go from there. Reread my suggestion above before you start deleting things. Good luck.
I'm sure this has been resolved in some other thread but I just can't find the right one. So please spare 10 seconds for a reply and help me.
I have a HTC HD2, with Gingerbread HD2 v2.1, Android 2.3.2 installed. I was looking for a way to uninstall the Facebook system app (somebody thought it was a good idea to add Facebook as a system app )
I had the Jellybean 4.2 installed before I downgraded because it would just take too much space. And now apparently my phone is not rooted anymore (hence not being able to uninstall system apps).
I'm a noob when it comes to Android so please bear with me. I found a script (customizable), archived on a ZIP file, that will delete any system app even if the phone is not rooted.
But when I go into recovery mode, the option "Install ZIP from SD Card" seems to be missing. How can I install the ZIP file if the option is not there?
P.S. If you know a better way to uninstall system apps from an unrooted phone, please share it.

Try a different, new and safe recovery. Root the device. Install titanium backup app. using it you can uninstall the system app.
