I have an international D821 model. First time using data roaming in Japan. Enabled data roaming and all is good with surfing etc. However only the "R" symbol is indicated beside the signal strength...no "H", "3G" etc is displayed to show that data roaming is in use..This could lead to high charges incase I forget to turn off data roaming. Any ideas why the data roaming symbol is not displayed? Thanks.

A work colleague is using a sim free touch cruise on the vodafone network but vodafone don't have any support for this device (mind you neither does HTC ). We got the vodafone settings for billpay vodafone off the internet and input them and can now surf, download gmail etc over HSDPA (H icon shows) and then it automatically reverts to 3G when not in use.
The problem is that the icon for 3G/umts in use is always on (ie the small 3G over the signal strength) and when the bigger 3G icon is touched it shows how long connected to 3G and as the device is still connected it keeps counting time even though the application using 3G is shut down.
My questions are as follows:
In this state (big 3G icon showing and small 3G icon above signal strenght) is this costing anything being constantly connected to 3G but not using it?
How can it be set to automatically disconnect?
My own touch cruise is on the 3 network but I don't have this difficulty.
My thinking is that it might have something to do with "vodafone live" but not sure what is happening or possibly have selected the wrong set of settings for vodafone ireland as there is a few different sets.
Sorry this is a bit long winded but any advice much appreciated.
The always ON connection is general behaviour... it doesn't matter which network is the device on.
The big 3G/H icons only represent the available network (G(PRS)/E(DGE)/3G/H(SDPA))
The smaller is the signal strength...
The cost of the always ON connection depends on the dataplan being used... if it's an unlimited or a fairly large one like 5GB, it won't matter... but it realy depends on the data recieved....
In my case the avarage hourly traffic is around 1 MB, but i have a little e-mail traffic going so... whith a few mails and every 30 minute checking the traffic should be around 500 KB or lower...
As for the Auto-Disconnect, please search the forum... there are several threads about this in both subforums.
Thats great gnick666 thanks for your reply.
I know the Advanced Configuration Tool has an auto disconnect feature, but I had some issues with it and never went back to go play around with it.
You can also hold down the End button and a menu pops up and you can end data connection there. Or alternatively you can configure it so that holding down the End button always disconnects your data connection.
I have an unlimited data plan so not worried about data, I'm not sure however what the impact to battery usage is so I disconnect "just in case".
As for the 3G / H icon behaviors. Depending on which part of the country I'm in, I get different icons. Sometimes I get 3G and it switches to H when doing data. Othertimes it's always H whether disconnected or connected. (This is assuming that I'm in a 3G location) and not switching back to Edge.
Mine mostly shows the bigger 3G icon and the signal strenght icon with the little antenna icon (I'm on the 3 network which is 3g) but when I download data the small icon changes to 3G and then both change to H as required. Once finished it disconnects and reverts back to 3G. I have Schapps Advanced config tool installed.
Hi Guys,
Basically my provider is Virgin Uk who is an MVNO. They use TMobiles network. TMobile has an agreement with Orange so that we can use their network when the TMob/Virgin signal is not good. Once I am on the Orange network, the network name changes to 'Virgin' from the normal 'virgin'.
Note, in the notification pull down tray where you can see the current network, when I am on my home network ('virgin'), it shows as 'no service'.
Whilst I am on the 'virgin' network (actually the TMob network), I can use data without any changes to the roaming settings. If I swap over onto the 'Virgin' network (actually the Orange network), Android tells me that I am roaming and thus I have lost data. At this stage I have to change the roaming settings to enable data.
In my CM9 rom, I have an option to enable 'National Data Roaming'. Should this option allow me to use data on the 'Virgin' network (actually the Orange network)?
This doesn't appear to be the case and I have to switch on the main 'Data Roaming' option which would then mean when travelling abroad where I am actually roaming, I would get charged for any data usage.
Does anyone have ideas on how to sort this out so I don't have to keep changing my Roaming options?
Thanks
here's the issue: when I'm not connected to home network, wifi won't transmit/receive data. I have /!\ sign in the taskbar with explanation "data disconnected because your phone is in roaming network". No matter what I do, data will not work over wifi. The same wifi AP works perfectly when in home network... anyone have this problem? any clue how to solve it?
Try enabling data roaming. Setting>Wireless Networks>Mobile Network Settings
Check "Data Roaming" Connect to data services when roaming
Having a similar issue. I'm about 300 miles from home (Chicago) in Door County WI. Weak Edge signal here. Data works over WiFi, but not over Edge. I continually get a notification saying "You have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming disabled". I now have it enabled, but the message sounds like I am SOL because I should have made the change before leaving.
To clarify, I enabled roaming 1-1/2 days ago, restarted several times and confirmed the roaming box is still enabled. But I continue to get the lost data notification.
Are you kidding me ATT? Is there no way to fix this without returning home?
I have Mediapad X2 701 B003
The data roaming doesn't work. If I use data locally - everything works, but if I go abroad - then not. I spoke with my mobile provider - they said that my device is not supported for data roaming. If I use the same SIM on a different device - then data roaming works. This shows the problem is with my X2
If I go to Settings>More>Mobile network:
..I can't get inside that menu, nothing happens when I click on it
..my mobile operator symbol disappears for a second, and I get the following message in the notification area:
"Data roaming
You have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming turned off"
Is there any way to enable data roaming on this device?
Thank you for your help
My carrier is Rogers (Canada) where I always have the HD (VoLTE) showing in the status bar and beside it the 4G or 5G symbol. When I use my phone in the United States it connects to AT&T as "preferred network", but the HD symbol disappears and although it says 5G, and I can connect to mobile data, I can't make voice calls. If I manually search for networks and choose T-Mobile, it connects and although I still don't get the HD symbol, I can place voice calls successfully. In place of the HD symbol I get either a small "R" above the signal bars, or a large R inside a circle in the status bar. I assume I am placing my voice calls over VoLTE, because all of the American carriers have shut down their 3G networks. Does anybody know why the HD symbol doesn't appear when the roaming symbol does, and also what is the difference between the two types of roaming symbols that I'm getting?
