A dollar for a calculator app!? - Samsung Gear 2

Yes. I have a Neo but still is relevent to Gear 2.
The lack of apps and not being able to sideload is irritating right now but I believe when development progresses we will get these things. I refuse to pay a dollar for a calculator app or 2048. I would like to have them on my watch but think they are taking advantage. I just gave samsung 200 dollars for my neo, they should provide more free useful apps.

How did you get the Gear 2 for $200? The Neo is $200 but the Gear 2 is $300.

I do have a neo. They really need to combine these forums. Are you suggesting I need to post exclusively in neo forum?

No essentially the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are the same thing, only difference is the camera. But they are both called Gear 2.

I agree more useful free apps would be nice, but the calculators and 2048 apps were created by 3rd party developers. I paid the $2... You're welcome to take your time and expertise and create some useful apps and give them away for free!!

It's true that 3rd party devs made the apps in their free time and I guess should be getting some money out of them but its really frustrating that Samsung released its watch that is starting to get popular with pretty much no apps available. And now when they realized their mistake they decided to launch the app challenge. The users are growing in numbers and the app store isn't keeping up. And paying $2 for a simple calculator app is pretty unheard of. Devs think since there are no apps they can scale the prices and I guess it does make sense but the fact remains that Samsung did a pretty dumb move here by not giving us any apps at launch cuz of their port to Tizen

My issue is is moot. One of our own XDA developers made a free calc app and had it approved by Samsung and is in the Samsung apps. Please feel free to buy smeiff a beer if you like and use his app.

Brace yourself because you are going to see more apps cost money than be free due to the lack of screen real estate needed for effective advertising.

Interesting point. Don't think it will be much of an issue for me anyway as I've noticed the more apps I load, the less battery I have (some apps make a big difference in battery life).

[Q] Make a trial app last forever?

So i installed this app and its a free version of a full one. it only lasts 30 days and I want to keep it forever, but I don't want to pay for it especially because i'm only a young teen without a job.
is there anything i can do???
Honestly, save some money and buy the app.
The developers of the app deserve it, even more so if you really like the app. :victory:

Discussion of warez is not allowed. This is your one warning. Any future warez-related talk will result in infractions being issued.

{Off topic} Why do people pirate apps?

It really annoys the hell out of me when people like to do so called *cracking apps* when they don't even know that is. Cracking means modifying the source code illegally and using the app for free which would otherwise cost money. You ARE NOT cracking it. You are STEALING it. The developers are working day-night just to make couple of cents but you on the other hand pirating it.
Just go outside and have a deep thought about it. You are willing to spend $50 easily on shopping, whereas, you don't even pay a dime for all the hard work the dev do it for you. It is just stupid. If you found a dollar on the road you wouldn't pick it, but where it comes buying $1 app you google it day and night all day long. I am not a dev but I do understand how it's like. So please please for god's sake stop piracy.
Go go sopa! or not?
Its because they are cheap and don't understand or care that it takes a lot of time and money to develop apps.
In many cases of free apps I wish there was a way to donate to the developer as I hate using something for free that I feel I should pay for.

To test for a greater time than 15 mins would justify a bit of searching. PowerAMP got it right back in the day. Something like 2 weeks full version trial then you must purchase. Still the best buy I've had on Android.

For me the situation is quite different.
I have been stealing apps (yea, i don't affraid to admit it, but im not brave of it). Then i decided to start buying them and supporting developers (bought Cerberus and couple other).
It's maybe my problem, but im affraid to provide my credit card numbers to websites such as google wallet to let them pull the money they want. The paypal here was solution, i could charge my paypal account, so they didn't knew anything about my credit card and it was safe. BUT then wild Google Wallet appeared and there's no such option. No money transfer, no transfer from paypal, i have to provide numbers on back of my credit card. If someone in google goes mad, with the provided cc numbers he can pull as much money as he want. I know it sounds riddiculous, but I like safety. I can't relly on their good will, that thay won't abuse it.
So i stopped buying apps, as there is no way to put money on my account.
I use cracked apps just to check if they are worth the money. I treat them as demo. If I like it I buy it.Cheers

This is insane!
I've spand 100-200$ for android apps.
I'm with android since 1.5 back in 2009.
Some apps are simply overpriced and I have to find a solution does the app deserve the money, and for that reason I google it to find it for free, just for testing.

There are such things as prepaid credit cards. Just a hint. As an alternative some markets (not Google Play) accept also paypal etc.
Google Play with paypal, at least 20% of us will start buying apps.
I dont use many apps on my android, so buying few apps is not a problem for me. bank in in about RM10 ( 3USD+- ) on my account, and bought apps. Im a student thou. Other than that, I often buy iPad apps, even thou I jailbreak it. Jailbreak for me is only for tweaking. I even bought paid cydia apps. Same goes to my android, root/unknown source/s-off or what so ever, I dont support piracy.
Have the kaching to bought devices/gadgets but dont have the kaching to buy apps? what say you.

Does owner of Titanium Backup drive a Lamborghini?

Hey guys I was looking in the play store and I saw that titanium backup pro key has 500,000+ downloads while its charged at $6.58. So the founder of it must be pretty rich and probably drives a Lamborghini or Ferrari, right?

I'll take a stab at this ... lets assume that he gets 100% of the proceeds from sales (based on your maths above).
Now, lets take taxes into consideration. But, before we do that we have to know over what time frame these sales occurred. Tax brackets are based on your annual income, so this is important. The best I can determine is that the first release was sometime in 2010. So lets assume it's three years old.
Lets also assume they consistently sell the same amount of licenses per year at the same price for simplicity's sake.
3,290,000 / 3 = $1,096,666 per year.
That puts them smack into the highest tax bracket of 39.6% per year. So ...
$1,096,666 * .396 = $434,248 paid in taxes. Also, assuming they keep good books and aren't too clever with their taxes, investments, write off's ect. Too many variables to consider here.
So, that means, that before paying staff, paying overhead (again which deals with complexity of write-offs, deductions, etc so we'll skip that) they pulled in:
$1,096,666 - $434,248 = $663,386
Now you have to factor in misc living expenses such as mortgage, utilities, beer, etc ...
IIMHO ..... No, they do not drive exotic sports cars. But they could very well be living comfortably when you consider the median US household income is only $50,233.00.

I think I read once that although people think they can multitask, the human brain isn't capable if doing it. And one or both tasks will suffer as a result. Just my 2 pennies.
Computers also can't do it, and the tasks suffer. It's called "context switch overhead". However, if the processors are fast enough - you can lose the overhead and still be capable of doing whatever phones are doing these days.

no absolutely its not a free service!! why they work hard and bay for there servers then ?!?! :cyclops:
It's free for one year. After that you charge a minimum annual fee.
And the most used app is demanding you to pay annual fee what will you do? I am just waiting to end the free period of it... So that i can buy it... Its most sophisticated and useful app...I even dont mind if they ask me monthly fee... But they are really generous...

Smartwatch Suggestion

Looking for a suggestion on a smartwatch. I'll be pairing it with an android phone(s9+ or maybe a71 in the near future) and would like to have heart rate monitor and support to recieve all my notifications would be nice. In particular I need notifications for workplace messenger by Facebook primarily. Being able to respond to notifications would be nice but not totally required. I'd like other heart monitoring functions if possible but realize I can only expect so much from a $50 smartwatch!
