Is your display flush with your speaker grill? - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I've noticed on my two day old M8 that the upper left, and lower left corners of my display are noticeably not flush (display is lower) with the speaker grill area. The upper right and lower right of the display are flush with the the speaker grill area. I am concerned enough to consider going back to Best Buy and getting an exchange for a new one.
Unfortunately, Best Buy only has the Amber Gold left in stock at this point, so I may be stuck with that color vice the Gunmetal Gray that I have now. Does anyone else have this issue? Please discuss, thanks!

Yes, several have reported the same issue. I also bought mine at Best Buy. I took it back and exchanged it. I made them open 3 new boxes before they found one that I was satisfied with. This one is perfectly flush all the way around

I bought 1, exchanged it, both phones have the problem in different areas.

My M8 in gunmetal gray was ordered over the phone through Verizon Sales on March 30th. The speaker grilles are flush if not very slightly lower than the display. I've also applied a Mr Shield screen protector (my review of which is "meh") which may accentuate this.
I also have a display that is very minimally impacted by the wearing polarized sunglasses, if that adds any to the data points.

Thanks for the info guys. I figured as much. Sounds like a quality control issue, and my M8 is getting exchanged today. :good:

My glass seems slightly lower but barely. Not really anything worth complaining about.

Mine is fine. Since we are taking about speaker grills kinda.. anyone notice that the holes looks like it has a paper or lint inside it or the back part? Weird part is. Only half has this but the other it's all the way thru holes.
Both speaker grills but bottom one is worst.

I have the gun metal grey as well. Both speaker grills are perfectly flush with the glass. I couldn't be more impressed with the build quality with this phone. I ordered mine off the Verizon website. Also barely affected by polarized sunglasses in portrait mode.

Well, all is good now. Went to Best Buy earlier this evening, and exchanged for a brand new M8. The screen and and speaker grill area (bezels) are perfectly flush and I'm a happy camper! Only loss in this deal was losing my gunmetal gray M8, and getting a gold M8 instead (that is the only color available in stock).

I had the same issue, I went through atl east 8 phones at the verizon store, all they had left and all of them had the issue. I found one that was better and just gave up.

Mine is flush,gun metal gray

Not Mine
Mine are even on both sides.

Where did you buy it from? Seems to be even. Both defective at Best Buy and Verizon. With maybe just a little better rate at Best Buy.
Would be interesting if everyone shares their color they got as well. I've heard a lot of gun metal gray screens not being flushed, a few gold, not many glacial silver. Not sure if it is from a lack of glacial silver owners or if they are made better.

I have glacial silver and the screen is nearly perfect I can not see the imperfection but I can feel it with my fingernail. it hangs on the right side of the device under the selfie cam.. however I am not returning it asI don't think it is a problem as I can barely even feel it with my fingernail. however it is not perfect. But no complaints just saying glacial silvers aren't perfect either but close,,, I would say very close.

Had to get a CLNR device, still not flush. 0/3

My grills are slighty lower than the screen but I put on a MIME glass protector which I new would not be flush, so it doesn't bother me.

Don't tempt me lol!

the glass on my device is definitely raised on the top side but i'm not too concerned...plus I've already rooted the device and don't want to hassle with the return process.

I got a gun metal gray last week at the Verizon store.
The bottom right is really noticeable. Upper right somewhat less.
Left side of the grills are flush with glass.
Normally it wouldn't be a big deal but I am getting my Zagg Invisishield protector today and it has tabs that go up onto the grill on each side of the speaker grills. I hope it adheres.
I called HTC and they have no love for me. They are aware of it but they say it is "cosmetic" and will not take care of it. Even went so far as saying their "zero gap" policy does not apply to the screen or grills ?????? I never brought up a "zero gap" policy nor did I know it existed. But it seems stupid to have a policy for a phone. Well part of a phone!! LOL
Went to Verizon store and all they have in stock are the same regardless of whether they are aluminum or gun metal gray.
Verizon is aware of the problem but HTC is offering them no love either.
They even had a thread in their tech forums(available only to Verizon employees) where it was brought up by one of their employees. The mod passed it on to HTC. Then the mod came back and said HTC gave no love and there was a note where Verizon was redesigning their glass screen protector to not have it go up onto the speaker grills. (It seams they have had that problem since the One M7 and the glass screen protector popping up in the corners due to the grills).
I have been MOTO since the flip phone days. Tried the HTC One M8 and I love it EXCEPT It is disappointing to see how HTC is dealing with this manufacturing error!!!!

Dust Under the Screen

Well, guess what? My MT4G is about five hours old and there is already a spec of dust under the screen. On the phone with T-Mobile right now to do a swap. Why can't HTC figure out this dust issue? How hard is it to glue a phone together?
Update: T-Mobile had no problem swapping it for a brand new device because it was so new. Even after that dust under the screen is covered under the one year warranty.
I would just return it, I doubt that many have this problem.

A new one is on the way. I'm hoping this is not like my Nexus. Either way, that's what warranties are for.

Are we talking about extended warranty here? If so, sorry to burst your bubble, but the regular one year manufacturer's warranty will cover this also -- without having to shell out that extra $6 a month
I had grey specks under my screen and I made her the exchange the phone.. the sales girl (a teen ager!) said she didnt see anything, but when I showed it to her in the sun she said "I would never notice that" (like I as being anal! LOL!)
It was the WHITE version...
I've seen other reports of this too. Best to inspect well upon receipt or in store before leaving.
Mine appears to have an issue with the FFC - it looks to be off center to the right. Works fine, but a QC issue for a phone the caliber of this and not impressive for HTC.

I had a single spec of dust under the screen, upper left corner. the girl in the store saw it as soon as I showed a white screen. exchanged it for a new one right in the store, no questions asked.
manufacturing defect? I guess. hope the screen doesn't have some gap that allows in lint because I carry the thing in my pocket all the time.
yep...got a mytouch 4g/hd today aswell. didnt get a chance to play with it until now, about 6 hours later. Smack dab in the middle was what i thought was a dead pixel. upon further inspection its a particle of dust or whatever. super super annoying. i have to exchange the phone and hope this one doesnt have this problem.
any way of removing this foreign particle w/o voiding anything?

I got my mt4g yesterday. First thing I did was look for dust under the screen. Had another mt4g on the way within an hour of getting my first one. The bad part is I got my phone direct from Tmobile so I have to wait for it to arrive. On the brightside they did free express this time.
Anyone got any images showing this? I dont see anything on mine but its only a few hours old and I got it late at night and I'm so tired I'm not even inspecting it that much at the moment. Will go over it tomorrow.
i use to work on LCDs. Basically the clean room wasn't that clean when they were putting on the polarized layer. There is not anything practical you can do to fix it.
Anyone know who the OEM for the LCDs are?

I never buy the extended warranty but I do get insurance. Considering how many times I've used it, it's been worth it.

No this is a QC issue. There are gaps between the metal bezel that surrounds the glass and the rubbery material that covers up the sides of the phone. The dust/lint that got under my screen was definitely from the device being in my pocket.
I solved this by getting a nice case from T-Mo ($35 but it's sexy) to cover the exposed area. Haven't had a problem since.
I was going to get a mytouch 4g to play with until the nexus s came out. I played with one at t-mobile store and nothing really impressed me. After reading the mytouch 4g thread it sounds like HTC is still making crappy phones. Sounds like the same N1 issues all over again. We used hairdryer to heat up the glass then press the screen back down. I had to do this will all three of my N1's.

I have the tiniest, most annoying lint particle underneath my screen. As of now it is located far left. Seems as if it could make its way to smack dab in the center of my screen though. Kinda sucks but its so tiny you only notice it in full contrast to a white background if you really focus.
a single grey speck of dust in the top right corner, near the clock. Thought it was a dead pixel, but its there even when the phone is off. can only see it if I look really hard into that spot

Should I trade my Galaxy Nexus for a One S?

I got a guy tomorrow whose willing to do a straight swap, his great condition One S for my great condition Galaxy Nexus.
Since purchasing the Nexus a week ago, I've been annoyed severely by the yellow tint of the screen, 720p or not. I saw a demo model of the One S at a local retailer and the white's were much better then that of the G-Nex.
So what do you guys think, even trade, should I pull the trigger?
(Apologies for posting this both here and in general, Mods, please delete this thread as it is a duplicate)
Thanks.
do it !! if you dont like the nexus and you do like the one s, its a no brainer lol
and if its a straight swop with no money involved, you got nothing to lose really
Exactly, I would do it as well! There's no reason not to do it. But check the phone in detail and pay attention to
- coating (if it's the black one)
- display color from different pov, there are displays out there providing a whole rainbow
- sim cover (sometime there not fixed well)
Overall the One S is the superior phone.
I would..I love this phone. Gotta sari probably the best phone I have ever owned

i went back to my galaxy nexus, mainly due to the lack of AOSP options on the one-s right now. once there are some more ROMS available i will probably start using the One more often.
I made the trade, and I'm so happy I did, the One S is gorgeous! Man the device is so thin, such a pleasure to hold in the hand, and feels solid. As odd as it sounds, it made the Nexus feel thick and heavy! I'm also very happy with Sense over ICS, it's really a treat to use and finally, yes, finally, I've bought a phone that I can actually keep for the next year! I've gone through so many devices in the past 6 months it's made my head spin. This is the "One", as fitting as that sounds. Now, time to Zagg up the entire phone!

Glad you made the right choice just about zagg... I am not sure invisible shield is a good choice on this phone. What colour is yours BTW? I have seen a picture in the accessory threads that it looks awful with zagg. Just a simple tpu is the best I believe.

Thank you, I'm glad too. I never was quite able to warm up to the Nexus. Going from the Amaze, to the SGS2, to the Nexus, to the One S has been anything but fun, but ultimately, I've made the right decision in terms of the S having everything I desire and then some.
It's the grey version with the blue camera lining. Not sure what color this is. But it's really amazing feeling quality, I mean, I've never held a phone that felt this good in my life. It's also in mint condition, which is why I wanted to Zagg it up to ensure it stays that way. So you're suggesting not to use Zagg. Do you know of any other full body protectors that would be compatible? It's definitely something I want to do as soon as possible.
Thanks again for your help.

I don't know other full body protector other than Zagg. Was wanting to get zagg for my grey one s as well cos had it on my wife's iPhone and it was not bad. But since there are two pieces on the back of one s it looks bad IMO with invisible shield being split into two.
I would suggest a case or the clear hard shell but the latter does not cover top and bottom so don't drop the phone.

I found a store (cart) in my local city Galleria called "Gadget Guard" that has a great full phone body protector. It doesn't covery the camera's, or speaker grills, and fits pretty good. The protector is also very durable and less "bumpy" over Zagg. It's smooth and feels natural. It also has a lifetime warranty which is great, so if it ever bubbles up or tears, they'll replace it for free.
The only problem is, I can't put a case over it because it might adjust and alter the protector. So that's a downfall, but otherwise, the entire phone is completely protected and it looks quite elegant imo.
Zagg has good and bad, I think. I had a screen protector on my sensation that I thought was better than zagg. Smooth and not so bumpy. And the plastic was like half as thin as a zagg shield. Personally, I have the skull candy case for my One S and am going sans screen protector. If i can think of the name of the screen protector that I prefer over Zagg, I'll let you know.

I think this was the screen protector for my sensation:

I actually went to my local Mall and got a Gadget Guard installed on the entire phone. The lady who was installing it did a really good job, no bubbles AT ALL, no dust particles, and it goes all around the phone without compromising the camera, speaker grills, and is as tight fitted as can be without the ridges that Zagg sometimes causes. Plus it's great on detracting fingerprints.
Overall happy with it. Overall happy all together that I traded my G-Nexus for this amazing device (no disrespect to the HTC Amaze ). I'm one of the people who enjoy Sense and 4.0 on top of ICS has been a significant upgrade over 3.0 over GB. I'm still on the fence with rooting/installing a rom, but I do so with every phone I've owned so I'm sure the One S won't be any different. I'm just enjoying the stock experience so much as is.
Thanks again for your help.
To be honest, I think I am going to go to the mall today to put the screen protector on it as well. I may have found the store in Minnesota where I live. But ironically, I have been debating on going to the galaxy nexus from the One S, lol. The draw for me is the slightly larger screen and where the headphone jack and micro usb port are located. I like that they are on the bottom.

The guy who traded his One S for my Galaxy Nexus was very happy. He had every intention to trade and figured it was an equal deal, I agreed.
It's all a matter of taste, if you like the bigger screen, higher res, stock ICS with quicker updates, Nexus it is.
If you prefer a somewhat smaller, but just as vibrant screen, better processor, better camera, better speaker, go with the One S.
Both have their advantages and both are great, I just think I had a somewhat defective Galaxy Nexus unit with a really awful blue/yellow tint issue with the screen. My eyes were never able to get used to it no matter how much I tried. And I've had a Galaxy S2, which was perfectly fine and vibrant to the core. But the Nexus' white's were just totally and completely off. It's like someone put a blueish yellowish filter screen on top of the phone prior to shipping.
I flashed Franco.Kernel to change the Gamma and RGB levels, but nothing, and I mean nothing helped. I tried every single possible combination, and it was always off.

Matte finish wearing?

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone who has been using the HOX naked has had any issues with the matte finish wearing off and becoming glossy? When the phone was first released, I heard a bit that this might happen, so I wanted to see how everyone is fairing.
I bought my HOX on day 1 and got one of the OEM HTC cases (blue one with horizontal slots along the whole back).. and its been HORRIBLE! The casing is so thin that it started to crack in the corner when I removed it to clean or change my SIM card. Eventually, a piece of the case broke off. I then checked my One X and found out that dust had been trapped underneath and because it was loose, scuffed up the whole bottom of my phone! It was a complete waste of $20. So now I'm thinking about going nude for the time being.
Rocking it naked without an issue. Having a sleeve custom made, though, just to have a little bit of protection while running around. Pics will be posted once I finally get a chance to pick it up.
Grey. Naked since day one. No problems.

Just thought I'd throw this out there. My naked white is still incredibly clean. Rubbing it slight removes all small blemishes. I still haven't had any major mishaps with the white but I'm fairly confident that it will come off easily if I get proper cleaning materials. King of surprised by how clean it is really.

No its fine naked. Just like the post have mentioned. A good minimal case that adds no bulk really is the case mate barely there case. If you need a case I recommend you check that out. It is very very thin and looks good. Just in case you decide you want to try a case.

The matte finish is definitely starting to wear and I don't believe it will hold up. Look very closely and under bright light right by the speaker grill where the phone normally rests when sitting on a surface. There is a bit of wear in the matte finish. I can confirm this on two different device. These are white ones. This is too bad because I was really hoping the case on this phone would be super durable. With the way HTC talked it up it sounded indestructible. Looks like it's time to see how well the s3 case is holding up for people...
Nothing makes me cringe more than a beautiful design hidden behind a case. But, I also feel for those whose naked phones go flying to the ground.

Naked. There is a very slight "chin" on back just below the "beats audio" logo.
This is the area that touches whatever surface the phone is set down on. On my HOX this area is starting to "smooth" very slightly. Noticeable by eye really and only in good light. Not causing me any concern.
The One X just feels too good in hand to put a case on. :good:

Galaxy s 4 lifeproof nuud

Just snaged one up from best buy and have to say its thin and light an awesome did the water test with the enclosed s4 test unit... its light and not as buoky as a defender but feeks like the same drop protection is offered. . The speaker is not real noticeably muffled depends on the music and volume level phone calls are good just gotta cut volume up a little but thats it no problems talking at all.. the only thin I have noticed is the light sensor is right next to the plastic housing for the ear piece and does make it slower to transition from bright to dark areas. .. thats the only negative thing I have found so far and its not that big of a deal and maybe the home button enclosure top is right under the space makes hiting the space bar a little awkward but can get use to it... if yall have any questions just ask if wanted I can make a test video of the case and stuff just let me know and I'll do what i can to answer or help. .. here's a picture of the box and the test unit will post more shortly. .. those were taken with the case on with glash so you can see how the pictures are a little
Update : I called lifeproof and have to say customer service was just awesome told them my issies and they were gonna send me a new caae and didn't even ask for said that thats not a known issue and they would give me another case becuase it shouldn't interfere with the light sensor so I said ill just exchange it best buy which I did and the 2nd one is just awesome no more issues with the auto brightness. ... and sound is better with this one I had to set my volume to half way for talk and speaker is no different than another case

No problem i have the otter deffender the s view aromr and out of those this is my favorite its alot lighter then the defender and not as bulky the clear back is awesome and doesn't seem to mess with signal that I can tell like the deffender... do what I did lol go to best buy and try them both there are subtle differences between the fre and nuud besides the screen protector like plastics around the ear piece and home butto have different contours...

Figured id update I exchanged for the fre the light sensor/proximity sensor thing was getting on my nerves and the only differences between the 2 are the fre has a more angled edge where as the nuud has more square edges around the screen which hides the sensors a little and of course the screen protector built in ither than that there the same loving the fre the inly pad thins is the screen protector seems pixilated a little I still love it tho

I am curious if this will work with the wireless charging back since it is slightly thicker.
On a side note, I went to a Verizon Corp Store and asked about this case (Huge Lifeproof fan) and the store manager told me "Lifeproof does not make these for anything but iPhones." So I pulled out my phone, went to the site and said "I can buy it now on the site, I was hoping you had them here." and he proceeded to call me a liar and says it was a fake site.....
i have actually been looking into this. Instead of a case though, i was thinking on one of those water coating opinions, some companies offer. It's quite expensive though....

You can really bust his chops when I called life proof about the auto brightness issue they offered me a replacement and I said no I'll switch out at best buy and asked them if I could get the 10 water protection plan they offer and she informed me that you can only get it from Verizon and the lifeproof website that's it lol... NFC works great and the abeam thing not sure about the wireless charging the back is not thick at all its about the same as a tpu case in my opinion

I've looked into those a little and didn't trust them lol I'm very finicky at times about case and so far the fre seems to be well worth it and I have the otter box defender sview armor a tpu one and now the fre and this one is the best IMO only if I could get the sview mixed with the life proof lol

Just an FYI, I just bought the Qi Wireless charging back & charging pad, and the Lifeproof Nuud for my Sprint Galaxy S4 L-720, and it does maintain the waterproof seal with the wireless charging back on the device inside the lifeproof.
So you can't use any screen protector with this?
Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk
Do they offer all the other accessories as well, like they do for the iPhone version? Armband, bike mount, go pro mount? I didn't see any of them listed for the S4 on their website. I'm debating between this and Seidio's OBEX case.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Nope. No accessories. Also, they're now on Amazon and by what I can tell they're the official cases. $57 for the Nuud and $51 for the Fre.

Lifeprrof nuud
I grabbed one from bestbuy as well for 95 its worth it except for the fact that the person on the other line can not hear me as well about half the time. Its frustrating to yell, I have contacting the lifeproof and they create a case file and say that they will get back to me asap its been a day now. When i emailed my complaint to otterbox they got on it right away. The otterbox defender doesn't work with the GS4 at all due to the hole for us to be able to use the button, eventually particles get underneath their screen protector and after use you move the particles scratching your surface or denting it. The defender also dented and scratched the bezel on the phone

When swapping to the fre did you return your nuud to the bestbuy or file a complaint for it? And if you did return to bestbuy did you return the scratch protector that they have in the box? Thanks in advance!
As for the screen protector you can use one. I put full Ghost armour Carbon Fiber (Blue) on with my Life proof and it looks bad ass with the Matte screen too. Well worth the LifeProof.
I've had my LifeProof since almost the day it was released at Best Buy with no issues. I had an issue at first with the sound coming through my ear piece but by simply turning the volume down it fixes it.

I went through two Fre's and had the horrible sound issue with both. I just tried the Nuud and love it. I had a full conversation on the phone without someone telling me they couldn't hear me.
awkward design but useful
Lifeproof or obex..mhmm what should I buy

Obex is the only one I haven't tried. I've been through two otterbox preservers. They have a winner there if they can fix the mesh covers on the speakers.

Stay away from Yootech TGSP for Pixel XL

Same complaints as everyone else that the bubbling around the edge of the screen after perfect placement of the 2.0 version remains completely unacceptable. But that is not the worst part.
As someone else mentioned on XDA, Yootech reached out to me after I'd left a similar review on Amazon. I thought that it was a very nice gesture on their part: they offered a refund, an updated version that was promised to fit correctly, and 2 USB C cables. I accepted the offer, and now they won't respond to emails about getting them to follow through. 2 weeks and 4 emails later - nothing.
Bottom line: the product remains defective, and the company won't follow through on promises made to make it right.
I bought a yootech v2 for my pixel xl. Fit perfect, at first I noticed around the sides the edges would pop up. Through 2 heavy hard back books on top of my phone for about 6 hours and vwalhaha it was perfect. Not a speck of dust between layers, perfectly in the center, practically invisible with the case on except for the faint outline. Was perfect for about a month until yesterday when I dropped my phone. Screen protector cracked phone did not, peeled of with 0 residue. I give the product 5 stars. I think you might just be too picky friend.
I have these on the way for the regular size pixel. None of them are perfect but it's all we are gonna get for this phone. We aren't going to see specially made tempered glass ones for this phone cause it's a very small market for how much it would cost the company

Glad your phone was ok. I'm not alone in my complaint - plenty of threads/comments here and on Reddit about their "new and improved" version. Yootech admitted in their email response to me that v2.0 had halo/peeling issues for some users. I am glad it works for you. It did its job by saving your screen. Others, like myself, definitely have issues with it, and they are very real.
Interestingly, a manager at Yootech contacted me after I posted this, and promised to make good on what they said they would do. That's all I really wanted. Screw ups happen, and it is all about how you handle it with the customer. If a company says that they are going to take specific actions to make it right, it is not unreasonable to expect them to follow through.

I have no issues with mine. Had it on since day 1 when the new version came out and hasn't peeled up at all. Yootech has always taken care of me and made great screen protectors

I have the Yootech updated on my Pixel XL. It laid down great, no dust or halo and it made it all the way to the edge of the usable screen. It immediately started to lift around the edges a little bit so I took a couple of my wife's scrapbooks and stacked them on top for about an hour and I haven't had an issue since. It's been about 3 weeks of normal usage and no complaints from me.

I'm at the point where I can't stand reading people complaining about a halo in screen protectors. it has a curved screen it's not gonna be easy! yes it's annoying no one is denying that but saying a screen protector is **** over another companies because of a halo isn't really fair, it's the screen doing it.
now if the protectors genuinely have a fault like bad cutouts or don't at least protect the visible part of the screen (Even with a halo) then that's fair game at least.
I've had the version 2 protector installed for a couple weeks now and it's been perfect. There's absolutely no lifting or bubbling along the edges.
I had a problem getting it to stick on the edges so I positioned my fingers so that the entire side was pressed down and held for a solid minute or two and it has been fine ever since. The key is to get the entire edge sticking otherwise it peels back up again. Hopefully you get it!
My Yootech 2 is the first one to cover the entire viewing area but it does not stick in spots but I honestly expected that due to the curved glass.
I bought this "updated" version at Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LY8LVSB/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1. It has a good 1/16" halo around the entire edges, so I am not happy with it at all. Is that the one you're talking about?
Revised version doesnt stick in some areas for me either will probably end up removing it

Yep, that is the one. On the plus side, Yootech did finally follow through on their promise to refund me, as well as well as sending me a 3 pack of USB A to C cables and a $10 Amazon gift card. The good faith effort on their part (after I posted publicly about it) was admirable. Bottom line is that this particular version is definitely not great for many of us.

I didn't make out as good as you, but I replied to their warranty email, saying I wasn't happy with the halo around the edges. They replied and gave me a full Amazon refund in 12 minutes! I have to say their customer service is great, especially considering this is the weekend.
