Hello,
would it be reasonable to change CM file manager to
Mixplorer http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1523691
CM file manager has very limited functionality compare to the Mixplorer in terms of network functions, apk handling and such.

Yes a good ideea. But it is fully compatible ?
Example: when trying delete sys app some File Explorers give a message failed but actually succeeds and the current CM File Manager has no problems what so ever.
I has not try to remove sys apps with Mixplorer.
Initially I was so irritated, that CM file manager does not allow to install apk, when I flash my phone on a run.
Usually I replace/remove/add a lot of system apk in the downloaded ROM prior to flashing.

Installing one app, does not replace another app. If it is a newer version of the same app, then it will update the old one.
You can install all the file explorers you find on the play store, and you will have all of them installed at the end and they won't replace each other.
The only solution is to uninstall the app you don't want. In your case: My Files.
But My Files is a system app (talking about a samsung tw rom?) and you can't uninstall it normally. You are rooted so you can uninstall it. Use an app like this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jumobile.manager.systemapp
There are many more like it.
Beware though, if you uninstall critical system apps, your phone might not work properly any more. Make sure you know what you're doing.
And also, you won't be able to remove some apps for various reasons.
Edit: One other way to remove system apps is to use a browser like Root Explorer or Root Browser, navigate to the location: /system/app or /system/priv-app and remove the app from there. But again: USE CAUTION!!
Cheers
Replace apps
thank you for your reply.
i know how to uninstall system apps with my rooted phone. now let me explain to you my real problem.
i have some files which i want hidden. now the ES Explorer does the task and requires password to show hidden files . BUT anyone can see them using the option in "my files" that is "show hidden files" . Hence it is an application that nulls the security enhancement provided by the ES file Explorer:crying:.
so i thought that i should uninstall the "my files" app but when i did this, other apps like Camera and Gallery stopped working and i had to re-install the "my files" app.
But i have seen custom Roms in which one or two stock apps are replaced by other advanced apps. Can you tell me the process?

Unfortunately no. I do not know all the dependencies between apps. And I don't think you can change dependencies for an app. These are hardcoded inside the app itself. As an example, I have a galaxy s4 and use custom ROMS based on cyanogenmod. It's impossible to have the camera app from the stock Samsung rom because of the dependencies required for the app to run.
I think you need to find a different approach. Try maybe protecting them somehow instead of hiding them
Good luck
Hi, everybody. I have been looking for a file manager with the auto-permission-modification function for a long time. (yeah I invented this name : p)
This is the function that will automatically change the permissions of the files copied to the system partition.
e.g. If you copy a file from the user folder to system folder(e.g. /system/fonts), usually you have to modify its permissions to make system recognize the file and to avoid breaking your device. Therefore, it would be decent if a file manager could handle that automatically!
AFAIK FX Explorer is the only app with such function. I was wondering if there were any other app with this function.
P.S. FX is great in every aspect, I just do not like the left-margin-slide panel.
I was using FX sometime ago, but I didn't really appreciate the UI. That's why I switched to stock file manager.
Does anyone have OnePlus file manager that is working with Paranoid Android in Oneplus 3?
If anyone has it please share the apk file.
Here you have it. Just Install it!
It is from Open Beta 20
I keep getting this error, despite having uninstalled the "Files" apk through Titanium Backup.
Is there a very specific reason as to why you want it? If not, try MiXplorer. It's feature-rich, simple, clean, fast and ad-free. You can get it here at XDA.

I am also getting the same error. Any workaround to make it work?
Uninstall the current File Manager then Install this.
You can't install File Manager in custom ROMs, because it requires the OOS 4.0+ theme engine to make it light/default/dark etc.

You need to clean out the default file manager apk from system folder. Delete all its related apks too.
You can do this in twrp or a file manager with root permitted.. Note, some ROMs can install it and some won't...depends on the code resources...
Always backup files before deleting....

I use ES File Manager, which will use SU and has a nice text editor for playing with build.prop and other goodies.

The OP file manager is debloated in the profile file for xXx NoLimits. You can toggle that off in the profile and reinstall NoLimits if you want it back as an alternative to downloading it. But, as others have noted, there are plenty of other options that are more fully featured. MiXplorer, which has a thread here on XDA, is a nice one that I use a lot. Solid Explorer and FX are very useful, too.
I have a rooted OP6 with Oxygen OS 11.1.1.1 and after messing around in the Terminal and deleting system apps I don't use, my Files app suddenly had a Download icon. It also crashes upon launch. How do I fix this? I can't just switch to another file manager because the stock Files app gives the permission to other File managers to access /sdcard/Android/data and /sdcard/Android/obb which I need to access frequently. Total Commander and File Manager + both had issues accessing the folder with root permissions even when accessing the folder using /data/media/0/Android/ . The only way that works without any issues is accessing it through TWRP's built in file manager, but that is long and has it's own drawbacks (eg. TWRP can't make folders).
