Hi all,
I just got my gear 2 today. I had the gear fit for a few hours and it worked seemlessly with my note 3, but i traded it in due to wanting the extra features on the gear 2 and one of those features is the ability to install apps. However, for whatever reason, the apps i select in the samsung apps store and install, either give me an error after most of the process is done, or they install and dont show up anywhere in gear manager or in apps on the phone.
I did reset the watch once already, and i am going to try again, but any ideas? I would be very appreciative.
I have a note 3 rooted running Jedi Elite Rom
it may have something to do with it being on samsungs home firmware tizon, so there maybe issues installing android apps to non android hardware
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It's not android apps that I'm trying to install, it's the tizen apps from the Samsung app market, the ones that gear manager specifically directs you to.
Mine works flawlessly on my S5...maybe some of the apps are not meant for the note 3.

i agree. i think that us poor Verizon N3 folks that dont have Kit Kat yet are missing some functionality. hopefully now that S5 is out they will release it to us since everyone else seems to have it on their N3's
I have a tmobile note 3 and it is on kit kat. The apps for the watch are tizwn, but they work with the Android version of the app on the note3. The apps install fine on the phone, but the watch portion of the install gets install errors.

I was having issues on my Verizon Note3. On AndroidCentral someone posted a fix using this link. Worked for me. I can't post links yet so head over to their forum and search for Gear 2 and install.
It seems to revert to the "other" blue app store, but worked great.
Good luck!
I had the same problem. Spent hours figuring it out. It has something to do with either samsung apps or samsung hub on your phone. I had made SA into a user app to hibernate it with greenify, and I had hub frozen. I ended up having to reinstall my rom and not touch either of those apps. Then apps installed fine on my gear.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
I am re-installing my rom right now. jedi elite on the note 3 gives you the option to not install certain stock apps during flash, i must have chosen not to install hub and other samsung stuff, so maybe that is my problem. I will report back when i know. thanks!
I was just installing gear manager and it gave me a notification that I needed to set my phone to allow installation of unsigned/unknown apps, which i always have set anyway. However, I noticed this time that there was a checkbox that said "Allow initial installation of application only". I wonder if that specific thing was blocking samsung apps from installing apps on the watch somehow.
I got it to work, i guess it must have been an incompatibility with my Rom. I downloaded the stock rooted deodexed rom and installed that, now the apps are installing on my watch. Thanks for the help!

It should be compatible. I'm running Wicked Kk on my note 3. Glad you got it working though

No problems here. Btw apps aren't installed on one of the home screens but under "apps" (should be on one of your homescreens on the gear)
Clocks show up under the clock settings. I assume that you know all this.
Just in case.
Hello everyone im new to the whole rooting and hacking processes but I was deciding between a gear and a gear 2. I went ahead and bought the gear 2 and was wondering if someone has made a root for it yet (I know its very soon) but I thought I would ask anyway . If nobody has started work on the root for the gear 2 yet PLEASE start!
im also waiting for this also really wanting a way to make and import new watch faces for the gear 2 neo , gear manager has a few in it but that's about it , and using watch styler I can import downloaded themes but cant apply them to the gear manager and have them show up on the watch
Yeah I want to be able to download android apps on it like es file explorer,Games, movies etc...
Ok but what can we do with a root gear2? We can t install android app

I think that's because WatchStyler will not work directly with Tizen (at the time of this post). I am hoping, too, that WatchStyler will soon be available for the Gear 2...

well the goal is to be able to run android apps on the gear 2 like run es file explorer, games and so on... i dont know how it would be possible. But maybe flash a rom with a play store for tizen? idk?

People with Tizen phones can use a 3rd party software to make Android apps work on Tizen, perhaps this would work on our watches once they are rooted.
"With a simple click, the Polaris App Generator software is able to wrap an Android APK and convert it to a Tizen OS executable file. This means developers don't have to pour additional resources into manually porting their apps."

I wasn't going to, but since you asked I will immediately start working on a root method for the gear 2.
More seriously, if someone started a bounty I would participate.

It will happen eventually. Someone will want to be 'the one' who rooted the first Tizen smart watch.
I wouldn't expect it to happen for a month or two.
I'm in on the bounty as well.

If you can get root then I can get what I want which is a dump of the device. After that we can look at other options. I am stuck until I can find an exploit for root user access. Maybe I can give you my notes?
gear 2 root
i have a note 3 flashed to pp and a gear 2. I have to use go sms to send and receive pics but my gear 2 does not work with go sms. if someone comes up with the root pm me. I would be will to donate for future r and d. thanks guys
Random thought is there any similarly between android an tizen code wise is it possible to compare the 2 side by side and maybe find and exploit from the galaxy gear that can be used on gear 2?

Source Code has been posted. Hoping that helps with achieving root. Googling "tizenexperts gear 2 source" will take you right to it.

Yes. I am able to use my template's and svoice to respond

I have had some limited success installing apps. I got the sleep one to install (b4 they took it off the market) and a clockface. But any others I try just download and give me the app failed to install. (news feeder and the 360 one) everything else is working on My gear 2. Not a huge deal now as I am just testing it out, there are no good apps out yet. But I was trying to get it straight before the avalache of awesome apps starting coming in im sure here real shortly right. Anyone had similar issues?
I never had the gear 1 or followed it, how long before we got root and cool support/apps for it. anyone know? Of course this being one of the first Tizen products I would expect it to take longer.

I have a nexus 5X.
The App from Samsung donot work with my Phone.
When i try to look for it in play store, i cannot find it, from the link that you have from watch, you will see it in play store, but is not compatible with the Phone [emoji22]

At the moment the Gear will not work with Marsmallow.

Yeah hasn't been able to stay connected to Marshmallow phones since October 12. Have to do a reset of S2 every time they go out of range of each other.
A user on Android Central with a Nexus 6 on Marshmallow is reporting that there is a firmware update under About Gear in the Gear app that has fixed the Bluetooth connection issue. I don't have my S2 with me at the moment, so anyone with a Marshmallow phone should check for the Firmware. Please let us know if you're successful in repeatedly reconnecting without having to do a reset every time you go out of range. Thanks!
Just got my Gear S2 updated firmware applied last night and it fixes the issue with the need to reset the device when you loose bluetooth connection. All they need to do for me now is find a way to update the Gear apps on the playstore to accept my Nexus 5X as a legit device so I don't have to sideload it. Things are really looking up.

I'm gonna assume that you've already checked the Play Store again after installing the firmware update, so it is strange that they haven't updated the Gear app on the Play Store.
I can confirm that I have repeatedly been able reconnect my S2 to my Nexus 5 on Marshmallow after I installed the S2 firmware update that was available in the USA in the Gear app under the About Gear settings. I went from firmware version R720XXU2AOIL to R720XXU2AOJ3. I found that even after installing the firmware, I had to do one Light Reset on the S2 before the S2 would reconnect.
So far so good. Have intentionally gone out of range 6 times and reconnected all 6 times. Will report back if situation changes.

The app from play store, from 12th oct (current version that i can see at play store), is not compatible with my phone, nexus 5X, so, i cannot install it.
if the app is not compatible with my phone is for android 6. A firmware update without this app is for nothing

Weird. I'm using a Nexus 5, and maybe because I installed it prior to upgrading my phone to Marshmallow I have access to the Gear app. I can send you the apk if you don't have it. It downloads the Gear Plugin and the Samsung Accessory Service apps, and I couldn't back up those apks (or I don't know how to), so I can't provide those two, but perhaps if you have the Gear apk, it'll trigger downloading those two like it did for me. No idea why the app is compatible with a Nexus 5, but not a 5X.

since Samsung has actually released a firmware update that fixed (so far) the Bluetooth connection issue, I think they will update the Gear app, momentarily. Also, they never certified the 5X or the 6P, since they are brand new. I think this will be sorted out soon enough.
Oh, and there are three apks, not two. Two at first, but they added the Samsung Accessory Service apk afterwards.
yes, 3 files, i have donwload all of them all running...... i will try to test it before buy the watch
Ok, let´s go
I went to a Samsung store, try with a gear s2.
bluetooth pair ok, no problem, like always. From phone or from app
But, when you try to connect from app (i installed 3 apks)... nothing, no way.
I have a S7 that will be replaced soon and I rather have a OP6 than a S9, but it has to work with my Gear S3 and use all it's functions like Samsung pay, phonecalls, Samsung health. Also that the Bluetooth can handle 2 Connie tons at the same time like bt audio in my car/Sony bt headphones.
all exept samsung pay will work. having op6 or s9 to decide, i wouldn't even consider s9..
Haven't tested samsung pay but everything else is working fine on mine.
I get my op6 Tuesday, and one of the first things I'll do is set up my gear s3. I'm really hoping Samsung pay will work. According to some initial research, it's seems possible. Lots of mixed results. I'll definitely come back with some results next next week.
I have a Bluetooth Gear S3 classic and an OnePlus 6. Everything works (Samsung pay included) though I had to use apkmirror to download the Samsung Pay (gear plug-in) app.

Yeah looked like from what I read you have to have the "plug-in" app, but I thought you could get it from the playstore. Did it not show up in the playstore?
Edit: now that I think about it, it's all done through the Samsung gear app. However others have had the same issue where the plug-in fails to install. In which case the solution is as Dennis says above.
yeah I don't think Number Sync will work but via Bluetooth it will, My Gears S2 works so the S3 should be fine via Bluetooth

It was not on the play store for me, but apkmirror is run by the Android police guys and is reliable. They even show when the signature for a file is the same as on the play store (which it is for everything I've come across).

Been using my Gear S3 (Frontier) with no problems at all. Works very well thus far - enough to get me to dump my Apple Watch finally.
Now to find a way to replace the stupid 1+ phone app and this is a keeper for sure.
I have a 5t and a gear s3.
Everything works fine calls etc. Samsung pay is the hardest to get working. I had to install the apk from apk mirror. Also if yous ever chnage roms use titanium backup to backup every samsung app and its services or the watch will need to reset itself.
Btw if u root. Use magisk hide to hide all the samsung apps.
Fyi use google messages so u can reply on the watch. And if u can/want use googles phone app.
Thank you for all your input!
Now I can go agead and order the phone:good:

Hey mate. I tried installing this on my oneplus 6 , the apk file installs fine but when I open it I get the following error message.
''Unable to continue using samsung pay, your gear may not be supported.''
Was it the oneplus 6 you managed to get this working on ? or was it a different model.

I got that message too and several errors trying to reach the server but eventually it'll work. Try uninstalling samsung pay plugin, gear app and factory reset on the watch, then download both apps on the phone, pair with the gear app, when you install the smasung pay plugin using the apk, tap on update and then add your cards
I hear that it's better then it was but still can be flaky. Just gotta play some games to get it to wrok right I guess. Gonna wait for the new S4 watch that is ditching Tizen OS and finally going with Android Wear OS.

OnePlus 6. Find the 1.5 apk and install that.
Worked for me. Newer versions tended to give me errors like you did.
Been using samsung pay for the past month successfully. Extra bonus, the 1.5 apk has limited compatibility with the samsung gear app unlike later versions. A nice bonus is if safetynet fails(ie: magisk failed to hide it), samsung pay on the watch still works flawlessly.

I don't know if Samsung pay will work or not because I have a rooted op6 phone, and I know it doesn't work very well with rooted phones. I finally just broke down and bought a Galaxy S5 for 75 bucks on eBay and I have it plugged in at home 24/7. I used to set up my watch and Samsung pay and since it's a Samsung phone it works 100% over the internet. Non-samsung phones require a Bluetooth connection with their host phone to work with all of the features. So my Samsung phone at home connects with my gear S3 watch over the internet no matter where I am. it works like a champ for me and I'm not having to wipe my watch and reset it up every 3 days because I'm messing around with my Op6. I have been thinking about trying to get at work I'm going to be 6 just for grins and if I do I will report back here lol.
I have been using the gear S3 frontier with the op6 from the beginning, I've had the phone since launch, and everything works 100%.
Use magisk hide so Samsung pay works on one plus.
I have the Gear S3 Frontier with a Oneplus 6T that just arrived yesterday.
Everything was downloaded and installed by the Google Play store.
It works just like it did on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.
Now I'm wondering if Samsung Pay will detect if I root or not. I did not take this chance on my Galaxy Note 5
