I think it is the updated USB drivers for fastboot/adb that are important and a restart usually is required when drivers are involved.
Could you be a bit more detailed about what you need help with, exactly?

What do i do if the new hardware device notification doesnt pop-up ? NM i got it. Thanks for the writeup
@King_tee: Assuming windows, you follow the following steps.
1. Start > Control Panel > System.
2. Hardware > Device Manager
3. Click on the last icon below the File menu. It should correspond to "Scan for Hardware Changes."
If that doesn't work, try unplugging / replugging USB cable, different USB cable, restarting phone, restarting computer, etc.
If you never see the notification, navigate to the Device Manager(inside "System" in the control panel in XP and inside Device Manager on Vista).
You will see ADB Android Device at the top of the list with a Yellow Icon beside it meaning the device is not working. Right-click on the device and select "Update Driver".
Follow the dialogs that pop-up and navigate to where the unzipped drivers are at...
You should be good to go from there...
ok, i need some help please... I downloaded the SDK and followed the instruction in this thread, but when i try to update my driver for the phone, it says the driver is not compatible with my phone.. I am using Haykuro's ROM 4.5 with FW 1.5.. would that be the reason for this issue?

you may need to uninstall the current driver for your phone if you have mounted it before downloading the SDK. if you don't have the SDK setup the first time you plug the phone in then your computer will auto-update the driver to a regular UMS driver and it won't help you when you try adb. i forget how to uninstall your current driver since i don't use windows, but i'm sure you can find a nice crash course online

Found through Google...imagine that.
as well as what xyrcncp said can you you can download it and just mv ~/Desktop/sdk/tools/adb /usr/bin/adb abd you should be able to run the adb commands from any directory. not too hard to cd to the correct directory but i personally don't like to type cd ~/Phone/tools/android-sdk/tools every time cause i tend to make typographical errors. let me know how it worked but you shouldn't have any problems at all
umm no offense but your writing a tutorial for people that are not sure on how to do this, so you must assume that they do not know how to run an executable file...... write yourself a better tutorial without actually bashing the self esteem of some people... tutorials are positive not negative. I already know all of this but still... dont degrade someone due to the fact they dont know how, thats the whole point of writing your tutorial. Nothing should have been left out (including how to run a .exe .com or .bat
" (If you do not know how to install a windows executable file, please kill yourself now! ) "
this isnt honestly written with any hatred towards you, it was a good tutorial. Just might want to think about how you write it next time.
The "bashing" comments in my tutorial are directed towards the people with a true sense of humor. My tutorial was written to tell you how to simply complete a task and not to make you feel better about yourself. I do not get pleasure in abusing people's self esteem nor do I enjoy putting people down.
Just because you got a little sand in your crack does not mean you need to come in a very honest and informative thread and start bashing the people who are bending over backwards to help everyone out.
The reason I created this "tutorial" in the first place was because all the other threads are full of "start searching and stop asking so many damn questions" comments.
So start looking in the mirror when you wake up in the morning and stop saying "My, I think I will run over to good ole' XDA and be an @$$ to everyone today".
I am sincerely sorry that a little sense of humor has caused so much hatred in my thread. Please contact the forum moderators and see if the think my tutorial is so hateful.
lol i dont see any hatred but anyway when i download the adb driver when extracting it says unknown method
@ Nabzilla1990
Are you using Windows or Linux?
Are you using the built-in Zip tool or 7-zip from the links I provided?
Are you using a 32 or 64-bit OS?
using the same operating system as you 64bit vista ultimate sp1 and using winrar to extract
Try using 7-zip man, I have been using it for 3 yrs now.
Basically what I am saying is that everything in my guide is guaranteed to work.
Just to add, if you take adb.exe and adbwinapi.dll and copy or move them to the \windows\system32 directory you can run adb from any dos directory prompt.
it worked with 7-zip thank you and also want to add if it doesnt work for some people plug in ur phone and update the usb mass storage with the usb driver from here and it should work i had that problem earlier
Okay, so I did everything and got up to run cmd, when I type in the cd C:\android-sdk-windows-1.1_r1\tools it says not a specififed folder, but when I type it without the \tools it doesnt work. can anyone help?

[Q] [Help] Connecting with ADB

Has anyone figured out how to connect to their Note with ADB yet?
I turned on debugging but the darn thing still doesn't show up in the devices list.
For reference, I'm using the cable that came with the Note and I can transfer files successfully
Have you installed proper drivers or the Android SDK? If you get Android SDK for your pc, make sure open up the manager in there. Then download platform tools and tools. It should give you needed drivers and support for ADB & Fastboot(not sure if Samsung uses it).
Or you might be able to use Odin to do whatever you trying to do with ADB. Not sure though. Depends on what you trying to do.

I'm trying to play with some app deving, I like the logcat tools Eclipse provides.
I'm also trying to play with sqlite,
I updated my SDK to have the ICS and JB API's, I didn't think that ADB would have been significantly different than the honeycomb one I was using with my GB phone. I'll give it another try when I get back to my office on Thursday. I figured either I was doing something wrong, or I had something wrong on my Note when my Prevail works.
Thanks for the help
Well, I updated everything, made sure I have the latest ADB executable and dll's and still can't get it to work.
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
I can connect to my phone just fine, pull logcats, install test builds of APKs with Eclipse, everything.
My Note just doesn't show in the device list. I've made sure that adbd is a running service on the Note. Should I be using a different cable from the one that came with the system?
In case it matters, the only things I've done are to install CWM recovery and rooted using this method: rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-note-10-1-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-10-1-easiest-methodcwmmethod-2/
Well, turns out I'm a complete idiot.
It helps to have the latest samsung drivers installed
I had given up on getting it to work, then installed Kies to do an update.....
once it installed new drivers, my Note suddenly started showing up in ADB's device list.
Here I thought I already had the latest drivers
I feel like such an idiot

[SOLVED]Xperia L Drivers And ADB Problems

Hi there
I have seen some posts where users are having difficulty connecting Xperia L to their PC or ADB. Therefore, I am writing this guide to help you all.
The guide was prepared using Windows 7 Ultimate but should work with Windows XP and Windows 8.
Firstly, Sony uses a different driver for their Xperia devices and therefore, sometimes you are unable to install drivers for your devices especially for ADB commands.
IF YOU ARE LUCKY
There are few ways to get around to install drivers for your device. The most convenient and easy is you plug in your device and wait for automatic detection of your device. Make sure you have USB connected as MTP in MY XPERIA in SETTINGS of your phone. The device drivers would be automatically installed by Windows update.
METHOD
If suppose you can not install your drivers, connect your xperia and then on your PC, go to My computer > Properties>Device Manager.
You should see an undetected hardware with a yellow exclamation mark over it. Open it and click on update my drivers. Then choose GOOGLE DRIVERS by choosing hard-drive. This should install the drivers for you. If this doesnot work. Try the attachment with the post where the drivers are modified to work with Sony Xperia Devices.
Follow the same steps but this time choose the attachment folder to search for drivers. It might say, the drivers are not verified. Just Ignore it and carry on installing them. You will need to unzip these files.
IF suppose you do not see any exclamation mark while you connect your xperia. Just go to control panel and add new hardware. Select, I will choose my device and then install from hard-disk. Select the folder where you have unzipped the files and you are good to go. The name of new hardware is not important as windows will read the drivers files and install drivers for Xperia.
This will install all drivers for your device. If there are two or more drivers while installing them. Redo the steps and install all of them individually.
Suppose your ADB still doesnot work, then
FOR ADB DRIVERS :
Download the ADB Universal Drivers and connect your device. Then hit install. The ADB drivers will be automatically detected and installed.
Further, if these tricks fail, you can delete the unknown driver from your control panel and then try finding it again by using refresh button(scan for new hardware changes) in device manager.
Another trick is to click on unknown drivers and delete them. Connect your phone and restart your phone. Then scan for new hardware in device manager. The drivers should be installed for your device.
If still there are some problems, I will try to help you out.

UPDATE :
Use flashtool drivers to install adb/fastboot/flashboot drivers. This is the most simplest and easiest method I have come across lately.
Simply download flashtool
http://www.flashtool.net/index.php
Go to folder where you have downloaded it. Usually C:/flashtool/drivers.
Select the drivers for your particular device. I use universal for all three types of drivers. It is helpful to boot into fastboot/Flashtool before installing the drivers but not necessarily.
Good Luck

Did you try the attached drivers ?
I am just wondering you might hadnot turned USB debugging or disabled MTP mode or something you might have done to your kernel/ROM that might have changed the environment of your phone which factory reset reverted back. These drivers are NOT the drivers for connecting your device to your PC. These are used when you are unlocking your bootloader or working with ADB/fastboot commands.
Thanks for your contribution about how it worked for you and it might help others who might have a problem!
you can use ADB Wireless

For a second when I looked at your images, I was just baffled. THOSE MANY UNKNOWN DEVICES! That can't be right you know.
There must be only ONE unknown device that ought to be installed as mentioned above in my post.
Do you see these devices when you connect your phone to your PC or those unknown devices are already there?
Have you tried windows update to fix it?
Tell me more about why you see so many devices.
If suppose, they are already there, just see which device comes up when you connect your phone and try installing drivers for that particular device.
Also, i suggest just go for add a new device and then select hard disk and then install drivers which are attached. I hope that fixes your problem.
REMEMBER your device must be connected when you are trying to install the drivers
right.i'm gonna give it a try, wish me luck. thanks!

just go to device manager, connect phone and find ur not recognized device; then right click on it and press update/install drivers. From the window that will appear choose socond option (it should be something like manualy find drivers or something like that), then navigate to that downloaded folder. This way it should install them
But XL doesnt need any external drivers. If u install fasboot an flashmode drivers from flashtool folder they should work; they are working for me and for anyone i know. U may also install SEUS and then connect phone. This way u dont need that drivers, but ofc what i have mentioned earlier should work.

Hi
well first thing you need to understand is there are three drivers you need to install to make everything work including fastboot , flashboot, and Xperia L storage and SD card.
To install each type of drivers, you must have the phone in that particular state. To install normal drivers (for mass storage and PC companion), if suppose not detected automatically, you need to turn on your phone and then unlock it. Then see if drivers are found or not!
If the windows give you the error like undetectable device attached, go to my computers and then properties and the device manager and look for any device with an exclamation mark (yellow).
click on it and then select update drivers and use drivers that have been attached in the first post. (Remember to extract the attachment in a folder)
Then click on select drivers from hard drive (click manual installation of drivers )
and locate the folder where you have extracted drivers. This will install drivers!
if you want drivers for flashmode/fastboot, turn off phone and boot into flashmode and then install drivers as I mentioned above.
I'm quite certain they wouldn't trouble you at all. If you still need help, do not hesitate to ask !
Good luck
P.S: You will need to enable developers option and select USB debugging to root your device. I hope you are doing that right !

you must boot your phone in fast boot mode. turn off your phone and hold down volume down when you connect it to the PC!
Use flashtool to flash ftf file. you'll need to place ftf file in C:/flashtool/firmwares
then select the right file for xperia L and just flash ftf.
in flash tool , select flash n then fastboot and then I'll ask you to put your phone in fast boot (use method mentioned above)
good luck !

I am using windows xp sp3

I take it you have created a path in windows /android-sdk/platform-tools ?
Have you disabled usb driver signature authentication if you`re on Win8/8.1?
You could try removing the device in device manager and also uninstalll all drivers, then dis- and reconnect to the pc and install the google usb drivers from the sdk manualy.
ADB debugging enabled?

[Q] How to install usb drivers? Acer Iconia One 8 B1-810

I've been trying to root my device, unfortunately I've received no help or feedback from this forum (I'm surprised as it was recommended in some tutorials I've read) but hoping someone might be able to help this time.
There is another thread which I've been trying to follow here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/acer-iconia-one-8-b1-810-root-bloatware-t2991943
And it states to install usb drivers, alexys77 has posted a link for the drivers needed and I downloaded it but I don't know howto actually install them. I downloaded it from my tablet, I double click but nothing happens. I tried extracting it (by connecting it to my laptop) but I'm still unsure exactly what to do. Help!! Can anybody give me precise instructions on how to do this (including which part needs to be done on laptop/ tablet
Also, I'm still wondering if there Is a way to use a 1 click root for this? My exact model name is acer iconia one 8 b1-810_2cbw_316t. Is the above link the easiest method of rooting? Hope someone can help soon! Thanks again (to anyone who tries to help) :crying:

I thought the B1-810 (1) would be the most likely choice, but none of the files in that folder seemed to install anything. Or is it simply enough to have the files unzipped on my laptop? lol I'm still confused as to why I need to install usb drivers when my tablet is recognised when I plug it into USB?? I would have thought it necessary if there was an obvious problem??
Which file is the install file??
Thanks I eventually rooted it, but using cydia impactor drive scan (the steps in the tutorial didn't quite work for me) Got there in the end but lol
