You can run Linux from USB storage, but you can't boot directly from it.

[Q] Android phone not recognized?

Hi all,
this morning I tried to connect my LG optimus 2X to my transformer dock, but the transformer doesn't recognize the phone (it's set to mass storage device).
A usb pen disk works perfect.
Do you know how I can solve it?
Many thanks!
Are you sure that the TF has got android usb drivers installed? xD

[FYI] Rooting under Windows with debugfs only works with the USB 2 port

Hey guys,
Since I cannot post in the developer section where it belongs, I'll put it up here for people to see.
If you're trying to root your device with the debugfs method, don't use a USB 3 port. Windows 7 recognised the device, installed the drivers successfully, but I couldn't get past the "daemon started successfully" message in the debugfs tool. Changing the port to the USB 2 and Windows installed the drivers for adb. The rooting with version 1.9 was without problems from there one.
I thought this info might be useful to some of you

I used my USB 3.0 ports just fine.
Ok, good to know. I used a Asus Zenbook (UX31E) and couldn't get usb3 working, so I might not be the only one

I was gonna say, apart from the fact that ultrabooks are not even in this list, the arguments against it are not very sophisticated. But enough of that

any way to use external hdd hard on tab?

Hi im kinda new here , i wana know is there any way that i can use my ntfs hdd hard drive [500gb] in my tab plus?

I just mounted a 2TB HDD but with an external power Source. Size is not the problem, but without a external powersource, u will need a USB Y cable. Plug the single end into your tab, the other two are to connected with a powersource (battery with usb or just into your tablet charger) and your hdd. Done

Thanks for answering friend ...
Was it NTFS or FAT32 ?
did you use any usb managering app?
Sent from my GT-P6200 using Tapatalk 2
NTFS of course... but i think its capable of mounting every format if running extetnal via usb dongle. If you are on stock, your tab should recognize the new data source automaticallly. If not, use *stickmount* from chainfire in the play store. (Root required)

I have a Y usb cabl that have 2 normal usb 2.0 head and one head with micro usb 2.0 for my hard drive ...
what should i do with otg cabl ?
Sent from my GT-P6200 using Tapatalk 2
Just plug it into your hard drive, the other end goes into your tab. That one whats left goes into a usb port with powersource. (Your tablet charger or an iphone charger. For travelling i use a external battery with usb output.) Could not be easier dude...

So you have to buy one. A modern laptop can provide enough to make the hd work, this tab can't.

Don't think so buddy. With the symptoms you have described on the OP, the only way you can get it to work is with a power cord extension.
It's is not even a guaranteed method, and if you don't take real care with the second power source you may damage your hdd.
This is the cable, by the way:

Anyway to Relock bootloader to receive ota update?

No. Updates need to be flashed manually. I use twrp to do it.

With no cable, you can probably use air droid or Dropbox to download the file to your pad

Oh. Figured with an unlocked bootloader you would have a recovery already. Why unlock and not flash one? I'm still locked but I'm familiar with recoveries with my galaxy nexus
Also I think you can use terminal emulator to use fastboot with no cable to a pc

Incorrect. Go to the twrp website, and on the page where you download recovery for the tf300, there are instructions for flashing recovery without a PC - by using a terminal emulator as previously mentioned.

Haven't seen the site but I'm assuming it requires using dd which requires root and busybox. Which requires a data cable

Yes, you're absolutely right. No root and busybox, no TWRP flashing using dd.

CM11 No HDMI capability

I have an Asus TF300T with CyanogenMod 11. I noticed that HDMI doesn't work anymore. Is there like a root required app or something that can give me that capability?

I remember on CM and now on CROMBi I had to unplug and plug the HDMI cord a few times before it sent a signal out to the monitor/TV.
Did you have cm11 or an earlier version?

I installed it as soon as it came out (scroll down in thread  http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2570965) and at that time I never needed to use HDMI so I never tested it. The CROMBi ROM I'm using now is based off of CM11 so I'm assuming that out HDMI output drivers would be about the same.
On my TV since it is 720p it cuts off part of the screen when using HDMI or using my Chromecast. I've tested this on 1080p TVs and it works perfectly. If this is what you mean then there is no fix unless you have a TV that is 1080p
Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
That does apply to me cuz I'm back on the stock rom and I have a 720p tv. If i were on android 4.3 or later i could use the "fix overscan" option of an app that requires root.
