Mobile Data “Disconnected" - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I recently flashed a ROM I wasn't a huge fan of, and therefore restored back to stock Sense 6 using a Nandroid Backup I created shortly before. The problem is that now my data is excruciatingly slow (in places where before I had great 4G service), and occasionally I get no data at all (even though my status bar lists me as on 4G). When I go into my device's data settings, it lists that data is on, but disconnected (something I have not seen before). At first I thought perhaps it might have to do with my WiFi being on on, but I can reciprocate the above issues with it off, so I am a bit perplexed. Could this have something to do with my kernel, or is it something else entirely? Has anyone had this issue before/found a fix for it?
EDIT: I would have posted this in the original ROM's thread, but since I am not entirely sure what is to blame for all of this, I thought it best to ask in the Q&A's forum.

No actually, when I was checking through the ROM's settings, I changed my network settings to LTE, and lost all data. When I tired to switch it back to Global, there was no option, just LTE, 3G and 2G.

I would do that, but I already used my replacement to get a device with flush glass on the front, so no go there.

I had the same exact problem. Flashed the same ROM. I had to get a new SIM. Everything is working fine now. For some reason it wouldn't connect back to LTE after I restored to my previous ROM.

Can you guys with radio issues try flashing the stock recovery and then doing a factory reset from the hboot menu? Factory reset using the stock recovery often fixes radio issues caused by custom roms.

As I understand, you have the Google edition. I had the same problem. It is an easy fix:
1 go to phone app and dial *#*#4636#*#*
2 click on phone information
3 under preferred network type select LTE/GSM/CDMA auto
4 wait for signal bars to show up and you're done.
Hope it helped.

I will try this, but I just want to confirm that the only thing I will be losing here will be root (as in a factory reset will not S-On my phone, again this is my first HTC phone, so I have only a very basic grasp of S-Off).

Whenever I dial this, it clears the “number" field and I am unable to do anything from here. Is typing and calling this code only possible on the GPE ROM?

You may temporarily lose root. Since you are s-off once done you can simply flash back your custom recovery and reroot

You don't even need to boot into recovery to do it. On the screen before recovery (boot loader) there is a factory reset option.

I got it all sorted out! It finally took after my second reboot and performed the factory reset. Data is back and all seems to be well (the calm before the **** storm). Thank you all!

Lol that was quick. Data problems are back... It seems that after extended periods of time, my mobile data status will switch to “Disconnected" and it takes either a reset of my APN's or toggling the network mode (Global to LTE, and vice versa) for it to reconnect.
I am thinking it might have something to do with the “Sleep Mode" option in Power settings, I will report back after some testing.

Actually I did, and nothing changed (around 10 minutes after I activated it, the same thing happened). Anyyyyyyyyyways I had a nice little chat with a HTC Support Representative, and she actually brought up a good point: my data issues were most likely stemming from an installed app. To verify, I ended up running my phone in Safeboot mode (it disables all 3rd party apps) all day and sure enough, I had no issues with my WiFi to Mobile Data hand off. I began brainstorming which apps could possibly affect something such as my data connection, and really only one came to mind... GravityBox. At about 6 PM today I disabled it, and so far have not had any issues. I plan on keeping it disabled for another full day just to verify, but if all runs smoothly, I will permanently delete it (I was really only using it for volume button media control anyways).

Hey Sevenix! I actually posted this in another forum but it seems things have slowed there over the past few days. I just wanted to put it here because my problem sounds somewhat similar to yours (though I'm not getting ANY data), and I just wanted to know if you had figured it out. I would have no idea what app it would be on my phone, being even more of a beginner than you said you were.
Other post below:
Hi all,
Incredibly new to this, but I've followed many a video/guide all day to convert my m8 from verizon to t-mobile. Despite the fact that most stuff is working, here's the mystery. I have no data (H+, LTE, anything), despite "mobile data" being on. Quick summary of what I did:
T-mobile sim card in-->downloaded weaksauce and SuperSu, confirmed rooting with root checker and boot menu---->Got s-off using adb bundle and firewater (mac)------>changed super cid to "11111111" via tutorial----->Unlocked, S-off, and Cid to all 1's confirmed via bootloader---------->downloaded flashify and booted TWRP via recovery image------>installed android revolution HD 5.0 and followed it up with the extra kernel you guys posted (wifi did not work before that kernel added, as expected).
Details now:
--wifi works
--Only seeing bars on top menu for call/text reception, no indication of internet/data connectivity.
--Phone seems to think that "mobile data" is turned off, despite it being clicked on (i.e. Chrome says "Offline--turn on data or wifi", Green news scroll HTC sense thing (drawing a blank here, sorry) seems to think it's off, too)
--Receiving calls and texts ok, despite being close to fringe of network (In Erie, PA), but I drove to the center of downtown too just to make sure it wasn't that. Calls clear, messages go through quick when in good area.
--Under settings, Mobile data clicked "on" but underneath Mobile data it just says "disconnected". Tried on/off, reboots, airplane mode on/off.
--Reinstalled the kernel a few times using a few different frequencies, no difference.
---Under Settings---->About-->Network---->Mobile Network type switches appropriately between Edge and LTE despite where I am in town, but still no actual data being....transmitted?.....to phone (i.e. can't work internet, check email, etc). "Service state" is "in service". "Operator--T-mobile"
EDIT:-----When I try to open SuperSu now, it tells me "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgrade to android 4.3 you need to manually re-root, consult the relevant forums for your device!" I figure this is probably a key details, but being such a beginner I'm having trouble translating this. Does it just want me to delete weaksauce and SuperSu and reinstall them again?
I'm new to this, so I'm probably just missing something here, but it seems a bit strange considering how to the T I followed most of the tutorials out there. Anyone have any idea/suggestions?
Thanks!

I don't know if I will be of much help, as I have never flashed my phone to another network provider.
Anywaaaays, I assume that the Verizon M8 supports all T-Mobile frequencies? Was your phone able to connect to and transmit data prior to all your flashing? Have you tried flashing any other ROMs besides Android Revolution HD 5.0 on T-Mobile's network? From your provided information, this might just be issues with that particular ROM; I would suggest you try ViperOne, perhaps ACR, or any other compatible close-to-stock ROM. I cannot recommend anything more then this, as what you are trying to do is beyond my knowledge of this phone.
My data issues were likely related to a combination of an Xposed module not meshing well with my Sense ROM, and a faulty SIM card; your's seem to be much deeper. I suggest you get in contact with whatever member was responsible for discovering how to make your Verizon M8 compatible with T-Mobile, and continue troubleshooting with them.

[Q] lost data connection

First, I'm not too familiar with how ODIN works, so I'm a n00b to Samsung Galaxy S stuff. I'm used to HTC and LG. This is my fiancee's phone.
She has lost data connection. Rebooting, reregistering, turning airplane mode on/off doesn't make it come back. WIFI turns on and all that good stuff.
Here's what's currently running on her phone:
Firmware version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: T959VUVKB5
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Build number: FROYO.VUVKB5
Yes she has root. What would I need to do to get this back? If it involves flashing another ROM (been thinking about getting her on Gingerbread) than that's ok I'll just need pointed to a good guide for Galaxy S n00bs.
Thanks in advance for the help.
I'm also not sure if she has clockwork flashed or not. The phone was purchased used and was already rooted.
First go into settings > wireless and networks >mobile networks > and make sure packet data is on, if it is, go into access point names hit the menu key and click reset to default.
Make sure network mode is set to gsm/wcdma (auto mode) if not try switching between the other two options and see if that helps.
If none of that works:
You can try to Odin different modems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192436
Try the KD1 modem first and see if she can connect.
I tried the settings already. No luck with those. I will read up on ODIN and try flashing those modems. Thanks.
Might just take the plunge and flash Gingerbread for her, but she hates restoring apps and stuff. lol
I tried that modem. Same issue. Any other suggestions? I'm open for any other ideas. Nothing has changed on the phone. No new ROM, no weird apps. Same geographic area.
I'm at a loss right now. I've never had this problem on any of my phones so I've never had to troublshoot/repair something like this before.

Are you sure your APN settings are correct? for some odd reason, I had to manually set the APN's for my carrier.
Try disabling wifi, as it won't get data connection otherwise. Then go to settings, wireless and network, mobile networks and then Access Points Names.
See if the carriers APN are all set correctly. Should be t-mobile's unless it's an unlocked phone with another carrier.
are you sure that the imei's fine? or is it a generic imei?
i know this situation all to well, my efs folder got f***** and i had a back up on my sd card but as luck would have it my sd card was wiped. and ever since then i could never get a signal on the phone.
so make sure its not that issue because honeslty if it is theres not a thing that you can do about it.

4G Unavailable on My vzw S3

Hey I appreciate any help provided. I went ahead and followed droidstyle's guide to rooting and then flashing a custom rom to my 16GB S3. I believe that I followed the steps correctly but experienced some boot loops after installing CWM and before flashing Bean's Custom Stock Rom. Eventually I was able get the device booted and everything worked great except that my 4G was not working. 3G was working properly. I then applied the most recent OTA modem thinking that this could remedy the problem without success. I ejected SIM, powered on the device without the SIM, powered off, and then repowered with SIM seated. Still no 4G. After, I figured that I'd try going back to bloated 4.0.4 but this did not fix the problem. It's also worth mentioning that while I was flashing back and fourth that I was unable to backup using Nandroid. A message indicating that a backup could not be saved was displayed. I read in another thread that formatting the internal SD should fix the problem but I'm a little worried that I may much something up (again) while doing so.
I'd really appreciate the help.
Thanks!

I have had essentially the same problem. I have added the phone info app, which really hasn't worked too much better, except that I can lock it into LTE only. When I put it on LTE/CDMA/EDVO it has 3G, but will never automatically switch to 4G. I have to put the phone into LTE only, so that it will pick it up. I did notice today that when in LTE only mode, I can't make any phone calls, text, etc and get a message about my service provider being unavailable. Has anyone else had this issue?
Just give it some time eventually will switch to lte if you have lte coverage in your area

I have given it days !! I was thinking Verizon was having LTE issues, but I have been in multiple towns, all with LTE and I don't have any LTE, unless I force it manually; problem is I don't have anything BUT data, because LTE only mode for some reason makes me only have data.
Is it normal to have data only, when in LTE only mode ???
I have been considering going back to unrooted and doing a factory wipe, but with the lack of being positive it will fix the issue, I hate to do that work. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Sent from my Galaxy S III
After a couple days of incredibly fast CM10, my S3 has decided to revert back to it's old ways. I'm not entirely sure what caused the issue the first time around nor do I have a clue what caused it this time. Also, I do not know what allowed me to begin receiving 4G/3G when this happened originally. I have my proper IMEI/MEID. I've tried booting the phone without SIM, shutting down, reinserting SIM with no luck. I've used Phone Info to try switching my network type with no luck. I've cleared cache in recovery (Haven't cleared Davlik). I've applied the pre-release modem from the most recent modem. Nothing seems to be working. Everything was working just about flawlessly for the last couple of days. I suppose that I'm at a loss. I've backed up my efs using adb... The next logical step is to reflash CM10 and see if that provides any difference. If that doesn't work I will go back to Bloated and move back into CM10.
I've been looking for something unique for the better part of 4 hours. Do you guys have any ideas?
I really do appreciate any help!

Hey, I appreciate the response. I've tried entering in that number multiple times but its not yielding anything but 2 rings and the Verizon "lady" telling me that the call cannot be completed as dialed. I've seen this exact reply in about 5 other threads. I'm digging for sure. I'm going to go ahead and try Synergy since users are reporting a more reliable data connection.

[Q] Phone doesn't recognize carrier, data, or phone number. Help! [CM10.1]

Hey guys.
So I've been posting in the CM10.1 thread about an issue with the phone app crashing, and none of the fixes that are apparently tried and true had been working for me. So, someone told me to backup and reflash, so I did. Nothing
Then, later that day, disaster struck.
I turned my phone on(I keep it off when not in use for a while to save battery away from a charger), and when the phone booted and I unlocked, the "Activation was Successful" or something to that tune came up.
OK, sure, whatever. Clicked "Done".
BOOM! No service. I wasn't fazed at first, as these types of issues seem to be everywhere with custom ROMs. So I headed over to settings, and took a look:
I still have my IMEI.
My network is listed as "Searching for Service".
My mobile network type is LTE:13.
My phone number is listed as "000-000-0028(the last two digits are from my correct phone number)".
WiFi is working, though curiously shows 0 bars. It seems to work fine though.
I flashed back to a CM10 backup, and it yields the same issues.
So, do I (or can I, rather) go back to stock via Odin, or is there a simpler fix? I have zero phone capabilities right, now, which as you might expect is an issue for me.
Check under mobile network settings there should be a CDMA subscription make sure it's set as sim

****.
I managed to not try the most glaringly obvious step in the entire process.
I'm sorry for making a thread, XDA.

My S3's sensors won't work. 100% software related.

Greetings XDA gods! I've been a member for a long time and this is my first post with a question, as I am good at searching and answering my own questions in order to allow others time to be dedicated to making our devices better. I will describe the issue now.
I was running CM 10.1 stable since it came out. I resisted my addiction to flashing my phone every other day successfully, for a long time. My phone was functioning fine. I then decided to flash the first stable 10.2 CM version. Here is where problems began. The flash went perfect as usual and I will now describe what happened next.
1. I noticed that my rotation wasn't working.
2. I searched and discovered a handful of people had the same issues with their own GS3s.
3. I downloaded an app which 'forced' rotation. It worked. That indicates my sensor's aren't physically broken. The app was cumbersome and not automatic so I removed it.
4. I full wiped, flashed 10.2 again, same issue.
5. I full wiped, flashed 10.1??? like I had been running before and still had the non rotation problem happening.
6. Searched and discovered that I had no access to the hidden menu (to manually test the sensors) as CM** doesn't include the hidden menu options in their Roms.
7. Searched forums from all websites remotely related to CM 10.2 and discovered a bigger number of people had the issue, but some had the issue fixed with a nightly release.
8. I full wiped and flashed the nightly they described fixed the issue. (I flash, full wipe, flash, wipe cache's, etc., reboot then reboot again.).
9. The non rotation persisted.
10. I found out Verizon was pushing an ota 4.3 update and although I don't ever partake in that devilish activity, in my desperation for a fix, I decided to go 'there' knowing I'd have to life with my decision until a Dev cracked boot loader, etc..
10. I used the files from this forum to 'stock' my phone, including unroot and flash counter.
11. The 1st flash of the stock version still didn't fix the problem.
12. I rewiped and flashed again, this time updating from the Verizon 'check for updates' menu option.
13. I am now unhappily running 4.3 stock, unrooted (for now) and the rotation problem persists.
14. The was a second, literally, in between the updates that the screen rotated! I was already processing the flash, so I couldn't stop it.
15. I downloaded a app to check sensors. I think its called sensorbox. It reports no sensor info from any one of the movement sensors.
16. My GPS navi function works?! Which it shouldn't. Yet another reason it's software related.
So, for the first time, I am asking this awesome community for help, as my wife and kids are tired of my obsession to fix my phone and all said I need to stop. I am not 'in warranty', so I can't return it.
As a side note from not running any TW Roms since I got my phone, the UI is refreshing. All except for the non rotation..
So, any help that's sensible, not "pull battery and then hold left ear and hop up and down", would be greatly appreciated. I have done all the normal fixs for rom flashing issues, to no avail..

Sorry bro, no idea.
BTW, shouldn't this be is Q&A and troubleshooting?

Also... Depending on the Rom, there are up to 6 'enable rotate' menu selections to turn on/off the feature. I have tried them all in various patterns and the none work.

Okay. So maybe its posted in the wrong forum. What should I do? @flyestAC. Thanks for your help

did you ever try the calibrating option in developer options(not sure on where this menu is, on 4.1 tw right now) same place you usually turn backlights off at. might have been worth trying but i have no idea how to do that on the new tw update stuff.
you could always just go to a store and tell them the update borked it. raise some hell and dont mention it being rooted and you might get a new one.
Moved from Original Development (which it is not), to the more appropriate Verizon Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting (where questions and help go... Hence the title)...
Well I enabled Dev options. There isn't any calibration options. I searched and found that it seems that 4.3 doesn't have the old option to set your phone down on a flat surface and hit calibrate anymore. The settings are under motions/sensitivity but they (3diff types) have no effect at all.

Judging by googles search results, this issue is causing many GS3 owners issues.

Just to chime in, the EXACT same thing started happening to me yesterday. Lost all accelerometer readings on my d2vzw.
I'm on CM 10.2. I tried a factory reset but that didn't do anything. Anyone else having this issue?
I posted this very same issue in 3 other sites. I have a total of 21 who commented that 10.2 made their sensors stop working. No one has a fixed.. posted. Which Id figure there would be at least 1 dev/smarter person than us looking into this issue or at least providing suggestions. I am getting discouraged!

I'm on board if you can find me a willing and able guinea pig. Root and ADB are mandatory, and I'd strongly prefer AOSP ROMs over TW. Some familiarity with the command line for whatever OS they use would be nice, but definitely isn't required. I can't offer much help setting up ADB except on Linux.
I wish I could be the person to help
the fact that I tried to fix it with the OTA update to 4.3 from verizon, the option to reflash is not an option yet. Unless I am mistaken.
Which may be a good thing.

Hold the phone firmly on your right hand and smack it to your left hand. Try a few times this should unstuck the G sensor....
I tried this tapping action. First with my hand them with
A hammer. Still doesn't work. After downloading a few sensor apps all the sensors show that they are on the phone but no data is being delivered.
Again to reiterate, everything worked perfect until the cm stable rom was flashed.
About to throw this thru a wall

I've had this issue ever since I accidentally took the OTA. Right after a battery pull the screen will rotate right up until everything loads and then nothing. Very frustrating!

CDMA-Only on 4.3?

Before the 4.3 update, I could use any given app and force my phone to be 3G/CDMA only, and no 4G (the coverage is horrible where I am.) I was wondering if anyone has any methods for doing this with the new update, none of the dialpad *#*# codes seem to work anymore either.
I'm not opposed to going root, if that's a possibility at this point.

You could try the phone info app. I know you're able to force a 3g connection through it, but I've had instances where it completely shut off my 4g and was unable to revert back.
Now that I think of it, that was the reason I decided to flash my first custom rom. It worked great until that happened.

That was actually the app I was using before, as well. What ROM do you recommend, and what are you using right now?
