Had my TB for about a month now, everything was great till my 3G decided it didn't want to work. It just died completely out of nowhere. So after googling,I found if I dial ##778#, I can reset my modem and my 3G will come back.
The first time it died I was on Das BAMF 3.0 RC. Dialing ##778# did not work. I just got a FC. So I said screw it and unrooted my phone and flashed the stock froyo ROM back. Used that for a few days and my 3G died again, so I tried ##778# and it worked, I got my 3G back. I figured it was a random bug, so I put a different ROM on - samething happened: no 3G, ##778# doesn't work. Since it died again, and I didn't have access to the menu to reset it, I had to unroot my phone again. So then I rerooted but kept the stock froyo rom on just in case (since I knew I could reset the 3G here). Everything is good so far...
Only problem is, I don't really wanna use the stock rom. Every rom I've tried doesn't seem to have ##778# working... do you all know anyway to access that menu other than dialing? Or a different way to access it on other ROMs? Thanks!
tldr: What ROMs allow me to dial ##778# to fix my phone loosing 3G randomly? Everyone I've tried I get FCs
There is an app called phone info that allows you to do the same thing and should run on any routed Tbolt.

Hi i traded my phone, and he installed the wrong thing and broke it. I thought i could fix it which i did. Now though when i load it up it has no mobile network. I can connect to wifi. I called atnt and they said my imei was fine. I registered this phone with them when i first bought it, so i dont see how the imei could bad. I think he tried to change the carrier to something else and messed it up. Is there any way i can get my mobile network back? ITs a atnt i727. What should i be looking for to change the carrier to what its suppose to be. The imei is the right one from the back of the battery.

Isnt that for the data? I reset it to default but it didnt help. I cant make phone calls or anything. Is there a setting to tell the phone to connect to at&t or something like that? Or is there any way he broke the hardware? Under the settings about the phone it shows my phone number.
Thanks for trying guys. I have a update I got like one bar last night and it received like 4text and then got none. My girl friends phone is getting service, so does that mean something in the phone is broken
More details on what he did to break it and what you have done to fix my guess is that you need to flash a better working radio

Well when I got it back it was is a mode I haven't seen, kinda like the download mode but it said Odin kies mode. Im not sure what ics he tried to put in it. But I put back in the flash to stock Odin from the site and it loaded back up. Then I saw it didn't have service so I installed Cw recovery and installed sky coke. Which I have now, also tried some kernals but that didn't help ethier.now I have sky coke no service to atnt for calls or text but wifi works. I don't get service even in emergency mode.
Try finding a gingerbread radio FOR THIS PHONE and flash it my guess is that is your issue I don't have links but they exist somewhere in this noob ridden skyrocket forum

Thanks very much, i tried that and it still doesnt work. Weird enough every once and awhile it works, it should like it must of dropped it in water or something, and bricked it on me so i wouldn't realize what was going on. Or am i wrong? Is the thing that receives and transmits cell calls and text able to brake hardware wise?
What I would do is try a new sim card. All the network info is on there. If you did something wrong with roms or whatever, you could fry the sim. I would also make sure to have complete stock and I mean bone stock att rom( no root) placed on it. This will make everything back to factory and a better way to eliminate the problem. Sounds to me you have multiple and nothing meshing together. Search forums to return to stock which most likely would be gb 2.3.6. Good luck.
Oh and make sure you read closely and carefully. Returning to stock can be dangerous if you don't follow the directions step by step and have patience. You have nothing to lose if the phone is already borked. Its worth a try.

I'm having the same exact problem. And unfortunately, it looks like it has something to do with the CM 10.1 itself. As CM 10 works perfectly fine and gets me a signal, CM 10.1 won't be able to get me services.
I don't think there's a fix on this yet.

Hey I appreciate any help provided. I went ahead and followed droidstyle's guide to rooting and then flashing a custom rom to my 16GB S3. I believe that I followed the steps correctly but experienced some boot loops after installing CWM and before flashing Bean's Custom Stock Rom. Eventually I was able get the device booted and everything worked great except that my 4G was not working. 3G was working properly. I then applied the most recent OTA modem thinking that this could remedy the problem without success. I ejected SIM, powered on the device without the SIM, powered off, and then repowered with SIM seated. Still no 4G. After, I figured that I'd try going back to bloated 4.0.4 but this did not fix the problem. It's also worth mentioning that while I was flashing back and fourth that I was unable to backup using Nandroid. A message indicating that a backup could not be saved was displayed. I read in another thread that formatting the internal SD should fix the problem but I'm a little worried that I may much something up (again) while doing so.
I'd really appreciate the help.
Thanks!

I have had essentially the same problem. I have added the phone info app, which really hasn't worked too much better, except that I can lock it into LTE only. When I put it on LTE/CDMA/EDVO it has 3G, but will never automatically switch to 4G. I have to put the phone into LTE only, so that it will pick it up. I did notice today that when in LTE only mode, I can't make any phone calls, text, etc and get a message about my service provider being unavailable. Has anyone else had this issue?
Just give it some time eventually will switch to lte if you have lte coverage in your area

I have given it days !! I was thinking Verizon was having LTE issues, but I have been in multiple towns, all with LTE and I don't have any LTE, unless I force it manually; problem is I don't have anything BUT data, because LTE only mode for some reason makes me only have data.
Is it normal to have data only, when in LTE only mode ???
I have been considering going back to unrooted and doing a factory wipe, but with the lack of being positive it will fix the issue, I hate to do that work. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

After a couple days of incredibly fast CM10, my S3 has decided to revert back to it's old ways. I'm not entirely sure what caused the issue the first time around nor do I have a clue what caused it this time. Also, I do not know what allowed me to begin receiving 4G/3G when this happened originally. I have my proper IMEI/MEID. I've tried booting the phone without SIM, shutting down, reinserting SIM with no luck. I've used Phone Info to try switching my network type with no luck. I've cleared cache in recovery (Haven't cleared Davlik). I've applied the pre-release modem from the most recent modem. Nothing seems to be working. Everything was working just about flawlessly for the last couple of days. I suppose that I'm at a loss. I've backed up my efs using adb... The next logical step is to reflash CM10 and see if that provides any difference. If that doesn't work I will go back to Bloated and move back into CM10.
I've been looking for something unique for the better part of 4 hours. Do you guys have any ideas?
I really do appreciate any help!

I've tried entering in that number multiple times but its not yielding anything but 2 rings and the Verizon "lady" telling me that the call cannot be completed as dialed. Hi guys. I am curious if anyone is aware of any methods to force the Charge to use LTE only that works with more current iterations of Android. I did find some threads about this topic using the search and how to enable the hiddenmenu with dialing codes.
Code:
The method I attempted is explained here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081491&page=2
I was able to use the dialing code to enable the hidden menu alright, but the code **583 to grant me access to the LTE radio options doesn't appear to work with the newer android versions.
I live in an extremely rural setting, yet we did get LTE here last summer. The problem is the phone goes in and out of CDMA/LTE (3G/4G) constantly. Out here in the sticks, this is our sole source of internet, and we do have a grandfathered in unlimited data plan. As such, I'd sure like to take advantage of it by using 4G speeds whenever I'm not on the phone.
Anyone know any methods to accomplish this now?
For what it is worth, I am currently running Gummy Charged GBE 2.1. Although I am not married to it by any means.
Thanks again!
This would be incredibly useful, but the problems are:
1) We probably need a custom RIL with deep ROM/kernel integration since we are on GB, or an ICS+ ROM which needs a RIL anyways.
2) Voice/sms has to go though CDMA.

GummyCharged is a terribly outdated rom that hasn't had any new development for well over a year. It didn't even work very well. Also it was never updated to FP5. We're all using "Tweaked 3.2" and loving it.
If you're able to run Gummy you're obviously not updated to FP5 and that is the single best thing to ever happen to the Charge. You need to be on stock to get that. I suggest you go here and explicitly follow the instructions to install EP4 stock. I'd suggest using the Pit file too.
Then take the 2 over the air updates from Verizon. That will put you on FP5.
Then go here and get "Tweaked v3.2 ROM + 0302 CWM recovery" and install it with Odin. This should make your phone run really good. I don't think you'll have any luck with making it stay on LTE all the time though.
You may actually get more than two OTAs if you are still on Froyo. The Charge had since upgraded to gingerbread, a major improvement.

He said he's on GummyCharged. Being on a custom rom he can't get updates from Verizon at all. That's why I suggested EP4 stock then the updates.
I don't see why me being on Gummy Charged is worthy of a laugh. As it is "outdated," and I still have it -- that must mean that it works well enough for me. I've had it for a long time now, and I haven't moved to anything else, because I haven't needed to.
That being said, I did say that I wasn't married to it. But the thread was about forcing the phone into LTE mode. If your comments or "recommendations" that I switch to a different ROM don't address the issue in question, why mention it?
I've thought about migrating to Tweaked... but with the thread topic in mind -- does that get me to LTE only? If not, how does that apply to this topic? If yes, awesome... don't laugh that I have Gummy, just let me know that Tweaked can do it, and I'll make the switch at once.
In closing... as you used to be able to do this with dialing codes, I assume there has to be SOME way to tell the Charge, "Right now, I don't care about texts/calls, you Stay on LTE!" And then when you need voice/sms to tell Charge, "Ok... NOW you can go back to CDMA!" At least I am hoping that's the case. That's what I'm after.
Okay. Sorry to sidetrack the thread. Having used GBE 2.1 and Tweaked 3.2 I know how much better Tweaked is and I couldn't resist making the suggestion. I'll bow out now. Bye.
Sent from my SCH - I510 on Tweaked 3.2 + Lazarus + dSlice Tweaks
FYI, **LTE works on Tweaked 3.2 with Lazarus Kernel 01/09. I'm sure it probably works on other Tweaked versions and I don't suspect the kernel would even matter.
I have not tested the LTE lock in extensively. I know that feature works, but I don't know how well it works. You may want to consider getting a more modern device like the Razr or Rezound, as they can easily lock in LTE using the app Advanced Signal from the Play Store. They also generally have better basebands. 4G on the Charge is actually pretty good though.
For the record I went ahead and installed Tweaked/Lazarus, and my phone switching between 4g and 3g is now the least of my problems. After upgrading to Tweaked now my phone keeps telling me the SIM card has been removed and reboots shortly thereafter. Apparently that happens every once in awhile on the Charge (according to Google anyway, I had never had it happen until tweaking), and the easy fix is to remove the battery and SIM card, replace them and reboot. Well, after about 10 removals and reboots, that doesn't look like the answer for me.
Dang it.

I had something similar to that happen. It was a dirty SIM. Clean the gold plate with a clean cloth and reset the phone. That should fix it.

Cleaning the SIM card didn't help. But I went back to gummy from Tweaked and then Tweaked again directly from Gummy without going the recommended route back to stock and it's working now. Well, that part is... but SuperSU doesn't appear to be working properly now. Any app that needs root continues asking for root privileges "forever" after I grant it. And if I open SuperSu I get the following "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
I'm laughing just to keep from crying. I come to ask about forcing LTE and now I'm on the "fix a problem, create another one" train. I hate that stupid train!

Sorry for the troubles. As unusual as they are it still sucks to get them. The supersu issue is likely just a permissions problem. Did you go into the superuser app first? Maybe try flashing just supersu, or re(dirty)flashing tweaked.
Sometimes its just better to not poke the bear lol. Sorry my tinkerings have picked up the bear role for you.
Got SU resolved.
I flashed a version of su from CWM.
I then openedSuperSU.
She informed me that the binary needed updating.
I told her to update.
She complained my current binary was incompatible.
I installed superuser from Google Play.
I re-opened SuperSu again.
She again told me that my binary needed updating.
I told her to try updating again.
She did.
It worked.
I uninstalled the superuser app.
SuperSu is singing to me.
I used that to take advantage of TweakTools granting me access to Fast Charge. It works.
Ok, so now I am on Tweaked 3.2 like all the cool kids. Now, I just continue my search/journey for forced LTE.
Or maybe if there was an easy method to boost the signal strength so that it doesn't go running back to 3G. I dunno... but back to my designated mission now.

All that's left now is to:
A} Test it and report back.
B} Remember to set it back to normal when I'm not doing Web Dev.
I recently flashed a ROM I wasn't a huge fan of, and therefore restored back to stock Sense 6 using a Nandroid Backup I created shortly before. The problem is that now my data is excruciatingly slow (in places where before I had great 4G service), and occasionally I get no data at all (even though my status bar lists me as on 4G). When I go into my device's data settings, it lists that data is on, but disconnected (something I have not seen before). At first I thought perhaps it might have to do with my WiFi being on on, but I can reciprocate the above issues with it off, so I am a bit perplexed. Could this have something to do with my kernel, or is it something else entirely? Has anyone had this issue before/found a fix for it?
EDIT: I would have posted this in the original ROM's thread, but since I am not entirely sure what is to blame for all of this, I thought it best to ask in the Q&A's forum.

Whenever I boot into recovery, I get a phone with a red triangle. I have unfrozen all disabled system apps, restored the original recovery, and unrooted my device... Is there something I am missing?

You don't even need to boot into recovery to do it. On the screen before recovery (boot loader) there is a factory reset option.

I got it all sorted out! It finally took after my second reboot and performed the factory reset. Data is back and all seems to be well (the calm before the **** storm). Thank you all!

Lol that was quick. Data problems are back... It seems that after extended periods of time, my mobile data status will switch to “Disconnected" and it takes either a reset of my APN's or toggling the network mode (Global to LTE, and vice versa) for it to reconnect.
I am thinking it might have something to do with the “Sleep Mode" option in Power settings, I will report back after some testing.

Actually I did, and nothing changed (around 10 minutes after I activated it, the same thing happened). Anyyyyyyyyyways I had a nice little chat with a HTC Support Representative, and she actually brought up a good point: my data issues were most likely stemming from an installed app. To verify, I ended up running my phone in Safeboot mode (it disables all 3rd party apps) all day and sure enough, I had no issues with my WiFi to Mobile Data hand off. I began brainstorming which apps could possibly affect something such as my data connection, and really only one came to mind... GravityBox. At about 6 PM today I disabled it, and so far have not had any issues. I plan on keeping it disabled for another full day just to verify, but if all runs smoothly, I will permanently delete it (I was really only using it for volume button media control anyways).

Hey Sevenix! I actually posted this in another forum but it seems things have slowed there over the past few days. I just wanted to put it here because my problem sounds somewhat similar to yours (though I'm not getting ANY data), and I just wanted to know if you had figured it out. I would have no idea what app it would be on my phone, being even more of a beginner than you said you were.
Other post below:
Hi all,
Incredibly new to this, but I've followed many a video/guide all day to convert my m8 from verizon to t-mobile. Despite the fact that most stuff is working, here's the mystery. I have no data (H+, LTE, anything), despite "mobile data" being on. Quick summary of what I did:
T-mobile sim card in-->downloaded weaksauce and SuperSu, confirmed rooting with root checker and boot menu---->Got s-off using adb bundle and firewater (mac)------>changed super cid to "11111111" via tutorial----->Unlocked, S-off, and Cid to all 1's confirmed via bootloader---------->downloaded flashify and booted TWRP via recovery image------>installed android revolution HD 5.0 and followed it up with the extra kernel you guys posted (wifi did not work before that kernel added, as expected).
Details now:
--wifi works
--Only seeing bars on top menu for call/text reception, no indication of internet/data connectivity.
--Phone seems to think that "mobile data" is turned off, despite it being clicked on (i.e. Chrome says "Offline--turn on data or wifi", Green news scroll HTC sense thing (drawing a blank here, sorry) seems to think it's off, too)
--Receiving calls and texts ok, despite being close to fringe of network (In Erie, PA), but I drove to the center of downtown too just to make sure it wasn't that. Calls clear, messages go through quick when in good area.
--Under settings, Mobile data clicked "on" but underneath Mobile data it just says "disconnected". Tried on/off, reboots, airplane mode on/off.
--Reinstalled the kernel a few times using a few different frequencies, no difference.
---Under Settings---->About-->Network---->Mobile Network type switches appropriately between Edge and LTE despite where I am in town, but still no actual data being....transmitted?.....to phone (i.e. can't work internet, check email, etc). "Service state" is "in service". "Operator--T-mobile"
EDIT:-----When I try to open SuperSu now, it tells me "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgrade to android 4.3 you need to manually re-root, consult the relevant forums for your device!" I figure this is probably a key details, but being such a beginner I'm having trouble translating this. Does it just want me to delete weaksauce and SuperSu and reinstall them again?
I'm new to this, so I'm probably just missing something here, but it seems a bit strange considering how to the T I followed most of the tutorials out there. Anyone have any idea/suggestions?
Thanks!

I don't know if I will be of much help, as I have never flashed my phone to another network provider.
Anywaaaays, I assume that the Verizon M8 supports all T-Mobile frequencies? Was your phone able to connect to and transmit data prior to all your flashing? Have you tried flashing any other ROMs besides Android Revolution HD 5.0 on T-Mobile's network? From your provided information, this might just be issues with that particular ROM; I would suggest you try ViperOne, perhaps ACR, or any other compatible close-to-stock ROM. I cannot recommend anything more then this, as what you are trying to do is beyond my knowledge of this phone.
My data issues were likely related to a combination of an Xposed module not meshing well with my Sense ROM, and a faulty SIM card; your's seem to be much deeper. I suggest you get in contact with whatever member was responsible for discovering how to make your Verizon M8 compatible with T-Mobile, and continue troubleshooting with them.

Ahhhh, good thought. I'll try out a different ROM later today. I already posted that summary on the thread of the OP of the tutorial, so hopefully he'll get back to me.
Thanks for the help!
