Sell it and get a Nexus 5 D821 (D821 seems to be more expensive than the D820) :/
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Differences-between-the-two-Nexus-5-models-D820-and-D821_id48985
Do not get a Nexus 5 from America. I am from Singapore and got mine D821 from Japan.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
Philippines' Smart Communications seems to be using Band 1... If your friend is using that network, you can borrow it can test?
There is nothing we can do to make your phone support Band 3. You should have research a bit more before getting it. I know it sucks.... My country is using Band 3 and 7 but my Nexus 4 didn't support it as well at the time...

Bad for you man. But to be honest I'm not seeing the point for making a thread about this...

Will the unlocked Nexus 5. Work with Indian carriers?

Guys I was wondering if the unlocked version of Nexus 5 will work with the Indian carries . Nexus 5 is much cheaper.
And what else I should take in consideration before asking relatives to buy it for me from play store?

Yes it will work in India, but on HSPA only, not on LTE. As far as I can tell the only band used right now in India is Band 40 which is not supported by either model.
Apparently Videocon will be launching Band 3 LTE during the next year. This would be compatible with the Europe/Asia version of the Nexus 5. If your relatives order it to North America though, you will get a different version that does not have Band 3 LTE.
Both versions will support all Europe/Asia HSPA bands though.

Thanks a lot for replying mate. Yes my relatives stay in North America and they will buying from there only via play store. LTE is not a big deal for me right now as even 3G is not very wide spread and 4G will surly take time in India. So what say I should ask them to buy it right? Also what else should I consider?
It'll be fine with HSPA+ which in itself is a rarity so LTE isn't much of a concern for a couple years atleast. There are reports that it might launch by mid November in Google Play Store India but if you're like me I'd say get it now.

D820 and South Korea

I'm in the military stationed in Korea and I'm getting a nexus 5 to replace the one I just broke.
Which carrier (LG U+, SKTelcom or KT Olleh) does the D820 work best with here. I can live with HSPA+, but if I can get LTE, that would be great.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
The D820 supports LTE bands 700 / 800 / 850 / 1700 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600, as long as your carrier uses one of this bands you're set.
I
You at least will get all the HSPA bands, and HSPA+ isn't that bad compared to real world LTE.

I had my (now broken) phone on KT Olleh and it had a real hard time holding a connection. Kept bouncing back between HSPA+ & 3G. Forget about getting a signal anywhere indoors.
Ended up canceling that service and I'm looking at either LG U+ or SK Telecom. Probably won't get my new phone until next month at the earliest though.
Not having a phone sucks
Bump for South Korea

Well, considering the price of the nexus 5, if you really wanted you could probably source a used one (D821) in good shape for relatively cheap. I'm sure you could also source one from south Korea .. Either way, best thing to do would be to research on your carrier's supported bands.
Mind you, that will only help you for LTE. All 3G bands are the same on both models, that's why I said you should be fine on the common (3g) bands.
Good luck
Ended up just going with the D821 since I'm going to be overseas for the next few years.

can't connect with 4g, only 3g

Dear friends, I have Nexus 5 but 4G doesn't works . My service provider supports 4G service at 800MHz and 1800MHz as it shown here http://www.gsmarena.com/network-bands.php3?sCountry=Morocco , but my nexus 5 d 821 does not work with 4G, I want to ask that if there is a solution like a roms or others things.
Thanks in advance.
800MHz and 1800MHz are LTE bands 20 and 3 which are supported by your device but those information are for Morocco. Do you have the same information from your carrier?

Do you have a map that could show you the cell towers around you?
Is LTE enabled in your phone settings? (preferred network type)

i have a white nexus 5 (D821) 32Gb version.
i can't connect to 4G network,unless i'm near the 4G tower.
sometimes the phone loses signal and switches to ''emergency calls only" mode even when i force switching to 3G by typing *#*#4636#*#*
If anyone you kno how to solve this problem or anyone else here do,could you possibly help me out with this.

hi friend, nice to meet you
i will try to give you a summary of what i reached in the end.
first thing, i discovered that the nexus 5 that i have is not a D821 but it's a D820 means it's the version especially for USA networks, and this mean that 4G of USA networks works on different bands than ours in Morocco, so after finding exactly where the problem, i began looking for a solution and i found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/radio-enable-lte-band-3-nexus-5-d820-t2928561 and after application the lesson, i got the 4G connection on my phone, and it's work very well till now.
this is my story, and i think it's a little different than mine.

i'm glad you answered.
and i'm glad you figured that out and solved your problem.
my case is somewhat different from yours.
before enabling those bands, you never caught 4G signal.
but for me,i do get 4G signal and connect to it,i access internet data, surfe, and make calls, but it's only when i'm near a 4G network tower.
which means the band is already activaed,it's just a deal with the signal strength.
if you can help me,i'd really appreciate that.
i'm really confused wether to flash those drivers or do something about the radio, cuz this problem brings about another problem which is battery drain,
my battery drains faster cuz the phone keeps searching for network.
just to let you know, when i go to bootloader it says Lg nexus 5 D821 (H)

Dude,you won't believe this !!
i just removed the back cover of my nexus 5 and was freaked out to find out it was actually an american model D820
thought the fact that in fastboot mode( bootloader) it says it's a D821 (H)
and guess what ! that (H) confused me and made me doubting it to not be a global (indian) version.
i guess i need to flash Some bands to get my LTE working properly.
thoughtless it's working but only when i'm near a 4G tower !
please help me.
i'd really appreciate that.

hey bro!
how are you doing ?
i hope you are fine[emoji4]
sorry for this long escape ( been so freaking busy with exams and preparation )
i really am confused with this device !
i thought it to be a nexus 5 model D820 because it can't catch 4G properly , then i removed the back cover and found it's A (D820) then went to regulatory information like you said found it's a (D821 )
went to fastboot mode found out it's a (D821 {H} )
i'm freaking confused.
i used an app called ''LTE Discovery'' to identify which bands my phone uses to connect to 4G when it catches it, i found band 3 and 7 !
do i still need to enable any additional bands like 7 or 20 to get 4G working properly ?
waiting to hearing from you soon !
sincerely,
Zackaria.

what concerns us is what there is within the system and not back cover, so depending on the picture attached and what you said, the version D821 should run 4G, because the bands necessary are already exists. did you tried other SIM cards ( maroc telecom, meditel, inwi ) ? what did you get ? the same problem ?

i'm using ''maroc telecom'' thought i tried other Sim cards nothing has changed.
i tried inwi. it works well !
i don't know if i still have to activate any additional bands like band 8 and 20 ?
i talked to the guy that have posted the video in youtube and said that i need to activate band 20 if it isn't activated yet.
then talked to developer ''azlun'' who first succeeded to activate band 3 and 20 and said that if band 3 is already activated , but 4G still doesn't work properly , then i need to activate band 8 and 20 which is impossible due to hardware limitations.
what i really need to know what bands are used to connect to 4G in morocco ?
i already have band 3 and 7 activated.
if i have A D821 what others do i still have to activate ?

as i know in morocco, the telecom companies use 1800 Mhz and 800Mhz for LTE connection, which means bands 3 and 20, so the global version D821 has bands 3&20 already exists, and the two of them and you don't need to enable any bands! take a look here: D821 LTE bands : 1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800).
did you do this step ? calling service client of "maroc telecom" on 888 and tell them that the 4G doesn't work on your phone, and the will activate 4G connection for you, although you have a 4G SIM, you have to call service client of maroc telecom on 888 to ask them to activate LTE connection

like i said,

the problem has to do with my device.

if it's the global version why it doesn't use band 20 ?
maybe i need to enable band 8 or 20.
imma call service client f maroc telecom tomorrow and ask them which bands they rely on.
then, imma be taking the next step.
i will really need your help bro.

[Q] Enabling Nexus 5 D820 LTE bands

Well, let me start from the beginning.
Im from Israel, and I bought a used Nexus 5, I've been warned that the phone doesn't get any reception and thought I could fix it somehow.
So while checking up the phone, I noticed its a D820 model Nexus, so I checked it up online and read its a US model and works only with their LTE bands, while there's a D821 model which works on rest of the world's LTE bands.
So while searching up online how to fix my problem so I will get those LTE bands worked on my D820, I've came across guide to enable some LTE bands (3 and 7 to be specific), and still trying that up..
But a thought came up my mind and I would like to know your opinion about it:
while checking up the 2 model specs, I noticed that both of them share the same specs and the only difference between them is their transceiver using other LTE bands, so theoretically speaking, if I place a D821 model motherboard in my D820 phone, I will get the reception and "transform" it to a D821 model?
so perhaps I could buy a used D821 which his owner broke his LCD screen or something, buy it cheaply and replace the 2 motherboards and my nexus will work as a D821 and get that reception is so desperately need?
By the way, if someone has a better walkthrough of how to get those LTE bands on the D820 and save me some cash, I will be honored to get a helpful PM.
I will be glad if someone with experience\knowledge will inlight my eyes.
thanks in advance!

Nexus 5 d820 not picking up LTE signal

Hi , My name is Ramiro i am new i the forum.
I decided to make my own thread because i already tried all the solutions in this forum about similar problmes in my Nexus 5 d820 32gb white and I could not solve it
I will start from the beginning , i bought the phone from this website TAOBAO.COM about 2 months ago, the seller has great ratings and over 100 phones sold.
When i got the phone in my hands after 1 moth , i inseterted my sim card and the phone only picks HSPA+ signal, the phone works perfect in all the other aspects,
Now this is all the info about my carrier , and thinks that i already tried on my phone.
My carrier is Movistar From Argentina , my sim is LTE ready and i have LTE activated on my service, if i put the sim on my
previous LG Spirit it works perfectly with LTE, here the LTE band is band 4 AWS wicht is compatible with the D820 variant
I already set my vpn manually , i choose LTE in my phone settings.
I flashed the phones and put the latest Android image 6.0.1 MOB30H, i already did wipe data cache, and factory reset.
I am sure that its a D820 model , the imei of the phone is the same that the one on the sticker in the back and the one on the Sim slot, and i checked it on internet and it belongs to an D820
With H+ internet works great but i never had LTE ,not even the word LTE shows on the status bar
I tried running the APP LTE DISCOVERY in this mode "Auto-repeat cycle after LTE discovery " and for some moments it reconized some unknow LTE signal but for about 4/5 seconds and some "neigbhors" LTE cells i would love to show the screenshots but as i am a new member i cant attach outside links if somebody wants them send me and inbox, i think the can give some extra info,
What i need to know is if my LTE antenna is broken or if for some software reason my phone is not picking up LTE or if somebody knows some way yo prove if the LTE antenna is working or not
PD: sry for my bad english.
