what's your recommended lock screen app and mods? - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
Loving my tab 2 (p3110) after 5 months.. Have modded the rom (stock 4.2.2) a little, Agni's Kernel, viper drivers and exposed mod. So now looking to mod further.
And yes I could just flash a custom rom but as yet not wanting to go that route...
Am just simply wondering what's others are using and why/what are the benefits of them?
Also what lock screen/apps are others using and the setup? Tried a few but never seem to get them to work correctly...
looking forward to peoples thoughts and recommendations...
regards
Lohtse

I too have a Samsung Galaxy S2. I am using Phone-Bricker 2.5 It has a great app called Kitchen that helps you out with adding things onto the ROM and customizing it further.

How did you root your sgs2?
I'm on VK rom... I really flashed a lot of roms and this is the one I stick with, it still updates so thats good...
I maybe suggest to start all over. backup everything you need to backup and wipe your whole system. then just flash the vk rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1559009
and if the battery issue is still there... charge your phone 100%, enter recovery mode and wipe your battery stats.
hope I helped a bit
The phone-bricker rom also looks good!! gonna flash and test it right away!! I'll let you know what I think of it...
I love the kitchen!!! Checkrom also has it! still waiting for that ICS rom to come.
grts!!!
unfortunatetly, the phone-bricker rom does not respond well in my sgs2... my BACK button and my homebutton aren't working... flashed it twice after full wipe. you know why this could happen??

so, the phone-bricker rom really bricked my phone. I tested it and as I said, my backbutton and homebutton didn't work anymore... and when people call me they only hear some loud noise, as if I was somewhere with a lot of wind, but not my voice at al (tested it by calling myself ) so I tried to start over and as I flashed the original ICS back, the call problem was gone. flashed the phone-bricker again and had the same problems. it's a real phone-bricker!! maybe other phones react differently...
still prefere the VK rom!! making my way back to it now...
grts
I also used many but so far, ICS Resurrection Remix and Liting' Rom are the best and stable.
Yeah now running the new remis and it is just what I want! A light smooth rom! But I don't get the tablet mode as you also can find in D4 rom... Is it a setting that I must change? I wanna try the sgs2 tablet!

What I wish for
Hi,
I seek a ROM that is FAST (with OC), STABLE, and customisable. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
Hello. I tried Ollo SII and I think that this rom has the best battery life. Try it if you want...

Or do you have any other rom with good battery life?

CM 10 for HD using Safestrap 3.60

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to smartphones. I recently bought a RAZR HD xt926 knowing it was a really good phone but I hadn't dug deep enough to realize the bootloader is not unlockable anymore until after I bought one :crying: . So I've been scrounging around for my options. So far I've gotten Safestrap 3.60 and rooted my phone. I've noticed some mention of flashing CM 10 or 10.1 using SS but every zip I find either fails to flash or wont boot afterwards.
Anyone know where a good and working CM10 zip that would work and/or the best SS compatible rom?
System version: 9.18.79
Android 4.1.2
build number: 9.8.1Q-79
You can't use CM with Safestrap because it tries to flash a different kernel. You need to use ROMs that are stock-based like RageHD, Nexesque, etc.
What are you looking for exactly? Something very close to stock or something with more custom stuff added?

Well I was basing that off of several threads I found like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34592575
Says it is CM 10 that works on Safestrap3 but the file isn't available any more on the download site.
I'm not sure exactly what I'm looking for. I've looked briefly at Aviator, RageHD, Blurry, Widow, Paragon Maxximus, and a couple others I found. Only found a small handful so far though.
Currently I'm using the stock but added AntTek Quick Toggle, Notification Toggle, Google Keyboard (very similar to CM's minus the blue), and Reboot Menu Widget *ROOT* (as the stock doesn't have Reboot in the power menu). Pretty much just adding stuff to give it more of the features I really enjoyed on my previous phone which has CM10.1.3 on it
Hmm, maybe that version of CM will work then. I never ended up using Safestrap myself so I couldn't say for sure.
Anyway, the link doesn't work right now because goo.im is in the middle of upgrading their servers.
I see. Hopefully I'll be able to get it once they finish and it work out. :good: guess that's the best I can do with this phone. Stock rom doesn't look half bad when using Next launcher 3D combined with the rest of the stuff I mentioned.
Yeah, I agree. Stock isn't bad at all with root. You get great battery life and you can remove all the bloatware anyway.
Yeah, I've yet to remove any bloatware. Probably only adding to the list in a way. The battery life was the main reason I bought this phone as my SII Skyrocket has a terrible battery life. I'd probably have gotten another phone or tried to find a developer or unlocked version if I'd known beforehand about the update, but such is my luck :silly:

You can flash Nexesque on an unlocked phone. That's what I have and encounter no issues, I believe when Adam released it it was specifically for an unlocked phone and safestrap as an alternative

use of custom roms if we have exposed framework ???

i have been using xposed framework and i wonder what if i just keep my phone rooted and stock and just install framework and tweak it the way i want about lock screen , navigation bar etc, what extra advantage these roms will give me , just asking
Only thing i can think of is the kernel, everything else can pretty much be done with xposed.

Right, i mean the question is kinda moot anyway if you're rooted you might as well flash a rom and kernal or just stay with a stock rom.
Honestly this really is a question you need to ask yourself. If having Xposed is able to give you everything you need then stick with it. One thing custom can give you over Xposed mods is the ability to have modifications or fixes to the core of android. For example in the past issues present in the stock Nexus roms have been fixed and released in custom roms before google was able to push out an update to resolve it. Also many more performance enhacements can be done. such ans refactoring code or out right removing uneeded functions. But in the end honestly it just comes down to what works for you.

Is there really that much difference between 4.1.2 and 4.4?

I'm using Stock 4.1.2 and except 5ghz wifi isn't working am pretty happy with it.
Do the later custom roms add enough performance enhancements to warrant the effort? For me the 'proper' dpi and tablet layout of stock is highly preferred so any other layout is really not desired.
Thanks.

84 views and not one reply......wow that would seem to suggest not a lot of difference.
Try it and see for yourself. +1 for sky high 4.1.2. It all depends what you want, I need hdmi out so Sammy Rom for me.
Good luck.

I realise I can try it but as posted in the original question there's no point trying it if there's not a lot of difference.....and at the moment there seems little, if any, beneficial difference.

Wow. I had good reasons to move away from the stock ROM back when I did it. But that was so long ago, I can't remember what they were specifically. I think a lot of people are in that same boat, which is why you aren't getting any responses here.
I would say that if you're happy with the stock ROM, then stick with it! The easiest upgrade you can do is to install an aftermarket launcher, like NovaLauncher or GoLauncher. You'll get a ton of features that will allow you to customize your home screen layout without having to mess with rooting and flashing ROMs and recoveries.

Best for all you don't use it then after all, it's a 4.1.2 PHABLET ROM .......... what (edit: else) did you expect? .......

ROMs that support AVRCP?

The title says it all! This is driving me nuts on my new Mazda 6. Stock rom works fine. Custom ROMs don't (at least the few that I've tried) Can someone explain why? And why does Samsung have it figured out?

I believe it's a lockscreen controls issue with custom ROMs. You may have to Google a bit to see if there's a hack that's compatible if you want to use certain apps w/ AVRCP functionality.
