I currently own a Nexus 4 as my main device and I am looking at purchasing the Moto G as a spare phone to replace my S3 which I will be selling to someone who really needs it
Now, I've had my Nexus 4 for nearly 2 years now and I love it but there a few little things that I want to ask about the Moto G that I want to have that's on my Nexus 4, if that makes sense
I currently have the Google Experience Launcher on my Nexus and I love the transparency, even if it only does it on the home screen. My concern is since the Moto G as far as I know is stock with a few little changes by Motorola, I'm worried that there won't be any transparency on the notification bar and the touch screen buttons. Does anyone know that if I install Google Expierience Launcher on the Moto G, will the notification bar and the buttons be transparent as well? I did have an HTC One for a while which didn't have a transparent bar and that to me was rather annoying.
Thanks

The notification and bar buttons are transparent on 4.4.2 on any launcher.
The phone is stock like the nexus 4, so you will be familiar with the OS. Motorola put only a few apps that to me are usefull

I would love for HTC to make a Nexus phone again but it seems google is only allowing Samsung to make them all now. So I wondering if anyone has heard of HTC adding any Nexus like features to the Sensation or creating a Nexus like phone?
Thanks you.
Chances the next Nexus will be a Motorola if Google go ahead with buying them
I do not think Google will allow Moto to build the next Nexus as they don't seem to have any advantages in hardware. Samsung has the best screens. HTC has the best build quality (which is why I love them).
But if Google own Motorola they can design it anyway way they want
That is true but from what Google said, Moto will be run as a separate company. So I do not think Google at this time cares about the hardware Moto has. Maybe later they will have Moto build android in some of Moto Switches and other equipment but not the phones unless Moto gives them no choice.
So from what I understand, the Nexus 5 does not quite have the same Always Listen Google Now like the Moto X has, because on the Nexus 5 it only works from your home screens.... Does anyone expect that custom ROMs will be able to enable a truly Always On Google Now like the Moto X has? I would love to be able to use the Google Now Voice searches without having to touch the phone at all while my phone is on the nightstand and the screen is off.

bump!! bunch of different threads on this topic hopefully a dev will be able to figure out how to do this (without 3rd party battery draining app).
Hello, I have been through a terrible doubt. Next week I will buy my new phone. I currently have a Nexus 4 because I always liked the modifications and custom roms.
As I have not much money, so I need to choose between Nexus 5 16Gb version and the G2 version of 32 Gb
I realize that the G2 has
- Better Camera
- Better Battery
- Better Screen
- Double of the Storage
And the Nexus 5 has been more fluid in 3d games videos in youtube, despite worsening in the benchmarks, and has more roms and ability to receive new system designs such as Ubuntu and Sailfish
It's worth leaving all these points better in the G2 for the stability and roms of the Nexus 5?
Thanks (Sorry for the bad english)
G2 is a great phone, you will not go wrong
Nexus 5 BRO!

Let's see what other users think of this. A balanced opinion will be best to help others as well. In my case, I'm using LG G2. It's an awesome phone downright. But now, I feel like getting a Nexus 5 coz I believe it's easier to root & to flash custom roms plus there are plenty of support in the forum. G2 is easy to root but can also easily get into eternal bootloop, even if you've done everything right.
But again, G2 is a solid phone if you are a normal user who doesn't care about updates and rooting and flashing custom roms and such.
Or, I could easily go back to Samsung phones as those happen to be the easiest to root & to flash custom rom.

Every time I get a new phone I work to make the screens and icons as close to the previous one as I can get. I just got a Samsung Note 5 to replace my LG G3. The LG has built-in icon change and editing. I also love the weather widget/clock I have on the LG. No others that I've tried so far do it for me. Is there some way to bring these icons and widgets over to the Samsung? I do this stuff every 2 years or so and forget what I did the last time. LG made the icons so easy though.
My 6p just died and I'm looking for a replacement. The sooner the better. If I buy a pixel 2 xl at Best Buy, will it be unlocked, or will it be a verizon bootloader can't be unlocked phone?

It will be a Verizon model but honestly I have a Pixel 2 from Google with the bootloader unlocked with no desire to root. As long as you can get a good XL2 screen then go for it.
So on the unrooted phone, is there an option to decide how many icons wide by how many icons down the screen holds? Can you resize a widget to take up space you want it to? Can you install a different launcher? (I prefer my apps to be listed as text instead of a bunch of icons)
I think those are the big 3 for me in terms of custom rom or not. I'm not sure if you can do that with Oreo as I haven't been not rooted for a while.
Currently rocking my old Note 3 with Jasmine rom running android 5 while I figure this all out. At least I have a phone.

You can install a launcher to do all those things.
Here is Nova launcher with Pixel 2 layout.
And Lawn chair Launcher for OG pixel layout.
And Another Widget to get the new weather and date layout from Pixel 2 with custom icons bring used on both. How that helps
Here is the Widget i referred too from the Pixel 2 set up.
