[Q] Screen protector effect on S-Pen? - Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The local Samsung shop put their own screen protector on my 12.2 and I'm not happy with the friction between it and the S-Pen (too much). I have the Logitech cover/kb coming in the mail and when it arrives I am considering just ditching the screen protector entirely. I've owned several Samsung phones sans protectors and never got them scratched.
Thoughts?

Tempered glass screen protector or nothing if the feel of glass is what you prefer. There's a thread about them in the accessories section.

I went ahead and got a zagg invisible shield for mine (until my mime tempered glass gets here saturday) and actually have to say Im pretty please with the performance. I had to get a hard squeegee since the one that comes with it is too soft to apply properly. The screen works rather well with the spen. Havent had any issues thus far. Pretty happy with it. I am using the rubber tips btw. The plastic may be different. Still switching to tempered glass though

Skip the screen protector. Only consider it if you frequently jam your phone into your pocket next to keys and change, which is definitely not a problem with this tablet.

Not gorilla glass though and despite extremely careful use mine already has 2 light scratches I can safely recurrent the invisible shield from Zagg and going to test the nine on saturday. Only issue with zagg is squeaking from my hand dragging on it. specifically the second nuckk of my pinkie

I don't know about the glass yet, mine should arrive today (Yea!!!), but the plastic one I have from amazon, sucks for the pen, I feel the rubber tip disintegrating as quickly as I write. The glass should be much better.

Matte screen protector with hard nib
I use a matte (anit-glare/anti-fingerprint) screen protector on both my note 12.2 and my note 10.1 (2012) with the hard plastic nib on the s-pen (not the soft rubbery one). The texture of the matte screen protector make it feel more like writing on paper.
When using the bare glass (no screen protector) I prefer the writing experience of the rubber nib on the s-pen because it gives the right amount of resistance to emulate writing on paper. However, my palm sometimes sticks when I try to slide it (depending on the amount of moisture on my hand).
I prefer to use a matte screen protector because my palm never sticks (even if my palm is sweaty). However, the rubbery nib causes too much resistance for the s-pen with the matte screen protector, so I use the hard plastic nib instead (which is just right).
Visually, the matte screen protector decreases the clarity of the screen and reduces glare. There is still some glare in extreme environments and I don't notice the degradation in visual quality. Ultimately, I use the notes for handwriting so I don't care about the visual effects of the screen protector either way.

Glass Scratching Using S-Pen?

Has anyone who doesn't use a screen protector notice the glass scratching? I have a cheap screen protector on mine and I think it's limiting the pressure sensitivity of my s-pen. I don't know if I should take it off. I'd hate to have scratches. It would bug me soo much.
No there are many users who use bare screen but not seen anyone complaining though use rubber tip to be safe
Original note spen has a plastic tip and even with that no scratches reported but in my case i found a better sesitivity of the spen on screen protector. Plus it gives u a soft medium and a little friction to the spen tip.

So this S-Pen tip is different that the original Note? What do you mean by rubber tip? Is the s-pen tip rubber? My screen protector seems to show a bunch of scratches from the s-pen.

The s pen from the note 10.1 has rubber tips and plastic tips to choose from. The original note jusf has plastic.
And there us no way you will scratch the glass screen with either the plastic tips or the rubber ones. You can see scratches on your screen protector because it is plastic. Plastic or rubber tips will easily scratch a plastic screen saver.....but not glass.

It´s very difficult to get scratches on the screen ....... I have mine now since August last year without screen protector and no single scratch.
You only have to take care that no sandy dust sticks to the grease on the screen when You clean it ......

SPIGEN SGP Galaxy S4 GLAS.tR SLIM Tempered Glass protector problem

I have this SPIGEN SGP Galaxy S4 Screen Protector GLAS.tR SLIM Premium Tempered Glass from 10th of September 2013 on my phone.
I loved it until about a month ago for no apparent reason it started developing this bubble under the glass in the top right corner (see pictures).
I didn't drop the phone nor tried to lift the screen protector since I put it on. At first it was smaller but it keeps getting bigger little by little.
I tried squeezing on it, to get it to stick back or push out air bubble with significant force to no avail. I take good care of my gadgets keep them in cases and clean so they look like new, so this thing annoys me a lot
Anyone knows why this would happen?
That's just what happens with glass screen protectors sometimes. My iloome did it for my iPhone 5 and now my S4 as well. My friends bought Chinese glass screen protectors and it did it for them on their S4. My seidio vitreo did it on my iPad 3. Though my iloome on my iPod is fine, and it's been there for a while. And my mime protector on my iPad mini is fine for now. So it's really hit and miss in my opinion. Hear the thin ones (spigen nano, iloome flex, mime feather) have a slimmer chance of this happening though.

It happens when force is applied to the edge of the phone/screen protector.
I found that it doesn't take much to cause the glass sp to lift up.
In my particular case, the lip of my case would apply just enough to lift top left corner of my glass sp.

It's a shame I really like this glass screen protector but now it looks ugly, I guess next time I'll go for slimmer version.
But still something had to cause this because it was OK for four months. And as I said I take care of my phone, never dropped it sat on it etc.
So it's bit strange why it would do that.

All the time I used Spigen Neo Hybrid case on my phone so it's designed by the same company and doesn't touch the glass.
I just recently purchase Case Mate barely there case that you see in the pictures which doesn't touch the glass either.
This has happened to me with every tempered glass product I've used from Spigen. And it happened relatively soon too; within the first few days of use. I can't see it being an issue with my screen being improperly prepared either, as I am very meticulous when it comes to screen protectors.
I absolutely love their cases and plastic screen protectors but I can no longer justify spending $30+ on their tempered glass.
Decided to go with Iloome Flex and I have been having much better luck so far. Over 60 days use and still no issues.
Here's a couple pictures of the Iloome Flex just for comparison http://i.imgur.com/LvG0JMr.jpg
Just wondered what the best way is to clean these without ruining the oleophobic coating? Thanks

Recomendation Clear Screen Protector That Does Not Lift/Bunch on Seidio Surface

I purchased a Seidio Surface and Tech Armor clear screen protectors. The problem is that the screen protector fits nearly edge to edge. The pressure from the new double insulated surface cases causes the screen protector to bubble/lift/bunch on the edge in certain places.
I used some scissors to trim the screen protector with some success.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a screen protector that fits within the edges of Seidio Surface?
Thanks.
I purchased the intelliarmor case friendly tempered glass for mine. I have a surface case on the way so I will try these in a couple days and post back.

Are you speaking of film protectors right? By the way how do you like the case? Im trying to decide between the seidio surface and the speck. Are the volume buttomes or power buttons hard to press?
Must be. Unless he trimmed Tempered Glass with his scissors!

I have always used Seidio surfaces cases specifically because they looked good, slim, and they provided decent protection (offered a holster option).
The problem I have found after about 5 phones (Gnex (2), Moto X 2013 (2), S4 (2), and the N6) is that they actually hurt the phone. When I say hurt, they create these little scuffing marks where ever the case comes in contact with the phone. This comes from fine dust/sand and dirt that gets in between the case and phone. I had good results with my N6 as I would take the case off once a week and clean/blow the case/phone.
My Nexus 6 looks good, but not perfect after about 6 months.
I *think* Seidio is on to this effect as all the new phones have a dual TPU soft shell and hard shell. I am hopeful this fixes this issue.
Regarding the buttons, they are harder to press and not perfect. It is certainly functional and not a big issue to me. You do notice it. It doesn't bother me that much since the phone turns on by the finger sensor anyway. I really never use the power button anymore.

The Seidio case and IntelliArmor tempered glass screen protector are a near perfect match. There is just a tiny edge between the glass and the case so you don't have to worry about the case pushing on the glass protector. The glass itself is very nice, I purchased some cheaper tempered glass protectors from Ebay and you can really see the difference. They are very clear and even though they do show fingerprints and smudges, they are way less noticeable than the cheaper protectors I bought.

Do Tempered glass screens work with the S-pen

Hey everyone
I have just bought a Samsung Note 9 and awaiting it to be delivered to me.
I always use tempered glass screen protectors but I am worried about using the S-pen with the protectors.
Does anyone know if you can use a tempered glass screen protector with the S-pen effectively.

I have the white stone dome protector and it works flawlessly with the S pen You don't even need to turn up the screen sensitivity
I wondered about liquid screen protection and I am watching one on EBay but I was wondering if normal versions work as well....i don't want to fork out all that extra if normal tempered glass works just as good as well.
I purchased the MP-MALL tempered protector and have not issues with the S-PEN. Looks good and hopefully will protect well. It is on amazon for about $12
Go with WhiteStone Dome they are tried and true. The best tempered glass I have ever used and it worked with the S-Pen and alot of cases I have tried.
Zagg one seems to work fine, imo it registers the pen better than finger keyboard stroke.
I bought a few different brands on Amazon. They all showed up in the same brown box with different labels printed out, they are fairly sharp at the top and bottoms. T-mobile has a glass cover that os actually tapered and smooth. They all work amazingly well with the pen. Although sensitivity does need to be turned up for finger use. I downloaded a multi Touch test app to confirm

The only down side is that they are over priced and they do crack easily as reported by many.
The Mocolo is half the money and is made with 9H hardness which the White Stone isn’t. The Moloco is as good or better as the whitestone, as responsive and as easy to apply.

I'm not worried about a $40 screen protector when I just paid $1,300 for the phone. I've had the screen protector on multiple phones now and I have not cracked or had any issues with any of them. Unless you're a complete klutz and you drop your phone multiple times a day you won't have any cracking issues.
i bought glass protector from aliexpress similar to whitestone dome but a lot cheaper one piece cost around 5$ only
'
first one was not perfect good thing i bought 2 extra
second piece i installed it and it fit perfectly on the screen only thing i installed a bit lower than it should be
so it almost touch the case from the lower side but there is a big gap on the upper side
i got a bubble on the lower side from testing several case because as i said it installed lower than it should be.
the spen and finger worked perfectly with it and alot better than the regular glass with matrix dots the stick from the sides only and i did not turn on screen sensitivity on both protectors
I had the ghetto whitestone setup on my Note 8 (LOCA glued a regular tempered glass screen) and now the whitestone on my Note 9. No issues at all and no changing of screen sensitivity.

I await your future posts about glue making a mess and bubbled lifting corners. Just get a wet applied plastic film , not perfect but definitely less hassle and no issues with sensitivity, I don't even have that extra sensitivity option turned on my device.

This is my experience, as well.
They should work perfectly fine as S-Pen functions using electro-magnetism. Via the electro-magnetic Wacoom digitizer underneath the display.

Hey everyone... Thought I would update you on on my Note 9 and screen protector issue... in the end I went with the Liquid screen Protector but I didn't get WhiteStone Glass.... I used a cheaper alternative and it works really well.... Also looks really vivid.
The Ebag seller who I got it from is called Itocorp but they seems to be out of stock at the moment.

S10e screen protectors

Which one do you recommend for the S10e? Right now I'm still using the default protector which was applied by Samsung, but I don't really like it.
i ordered one on ebay but i have a feeling it's flat not edge to edge full cover for 10e. They use generic photoshopped stock photo for all 3 models and claim it's curved. I think 10e has 2.5D edge. Not completely flat. I'm also using the garbage thin film they included. For $800 scumsung could include high quality glass and case. I also ordered glass for rear cameras. Never seen or used one before. Not sure what to expect.
tried ESR tempered glass and MP mall tempered glass from amazon
both do not stick on side, ESR is off by like 0.75 mm because of 2.5D curve of glass, it does not stick on side. so dont waste your money on these two, i am still looking for one may be just a bit smaller than ESR.
temporarily ordering a film protector till i find a tempered glass which fits right.
I'm using the PureGear HD Clear Tempered Glass Screen Protector https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P7S174H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_byaHCbZY5Q1N0
It only has adhesive on the edges so there is no bubbles. It is case friendly and is a decent alternative to the whitedome which remains the superior choice for the 2.5D screens.

how is touch sensitivity and does is create rainbow effect like some tempered glass with adhesive on side do?
Keep in mind aftermarket screen protecters (especially glass ones) will have problems with the fingerprint reader.
Im using the samsung one for now until some testing and revising is done
No rainbow effect and if you increase touch sensitivity in the settings it works great. I have no real complaints.

Yes, that's exactly what you are seeing. The S10e does indeed have a factory installed plastic screen protector. You can really feel it around the camera as there's a cutout for the camera. I would expect it to scratch rather quickly, plus I don't think it provides nearly as much drop protection as a tempered glass one might.
I'm following along here hoping that there does wind up being an economical tempered glass screen protector that works well and doesn't life at the edges. Seems like this will be similar to my S7, where I was never really able to find something that works and just went naked.
Thank you for the response I've just been so confused with everyone saying the S10 and S10+ have one but not the S10e. I think you're right it is just a polyurethane plastic protector. And just a heads up I tried to apply a tempered glass protector over top of it and it definitely made it hard for the edges to stick.

I had the same confusion. All of the media I've seen say the pre-installed one is only on the S10 and S10+, but if you look around the camera on the S10e, there's clearly a cutout that confirms there is a pre-installed screen protector on there. I'm still not exactly sure how to get it off. I picked around the edges a bit and nothing is coming up easily.
I'm not sure how well the edges of a tempered glass one will stick even if you took off the pre-installed one. I haven't seen any reports of an economical one that works yet. I think I'm going to be in the same boat as I am with my S7 and be forced to go without one.

I ordered an Alinsea glass protector from amazon, sounds like a knock off of a Whitestone from their description. It doesn't have a cut out for the front facing camera, which is great, as a cut out just seems to collect pocket lint. I have not received it yet.
