[Q] [Generic Device] Howto upgrade OS inside the img file - General Questions and Answers

Recently i was given an android device by a friend.. once i got to looking around at it, it appears to be some generic device from china.
After searching for days, i found the maker as fugetek. I emailed them asking for a release date on OS upgrade (from 4.1.1 -> kitkat) and was informed that " Updates are needed, and won't be made. "
Emailed them again asking for the source / project files they used to build the android OS for this device so i could update it myself...
Here is what they sent me:
(image attached)
As you can see.. these are hardly project files / source files, but rather a flashing tool, a set of " how to " doc's for flashing the device, and a compiled *.img
My Question:
1) Is it possible to extract / mount the img file, and manually upgrade the OS to kitkat witout losing any hardware functionality
2) If it is indeed possible to upgrade the android OS version using the img file as src, does anyone know of a step-by-step guide / tutorial on how this is done.
[EDIT] UPDATE: Seems the PheonixUSBPro flashing utility links to an " Alwinner " PDF when you click help..
I am assuming this is pretty much the same image being passed around by the chinese for their generic 7" Android Devices
From what i'm reading.. this is going to a fun, and somewhat convoluted project

[Q] Yarvik TAB360 runing on Gingerbread

Hi, first of all i am a noob and i want to apologyze for my english wich is not very good.
So... i've got a Yarvik Tab360 tablet wich runs on Gingerbread 2.3.4. kernel 2.6.36 wich i have allready rooted by zergrush exploit. What i want to know is how can i do ROM backup because i could'nt find any hint how to make CWM work on this tablet. I've allready tried to do like in Froyo Android 2.2.3 with flash_image but no success, the OS is diferent. So if you have any hints about this and if theres a way to install a nice custom ROM or Honeycomb, ICS... please let me know, i'll be glad to test. Another thing that drives me crazy is that i cant use properly App2SD ,because my microsd is mounted as .../mnt/extern_sd and internal storage is mounted like .../mnt/sdcard. There's a way to make internal storage as a single partition? because right now is splited in 2 partitions like one for system files and another for cache and data; or there's a way to configure App2SD to move data at .../mnt/extern_sd not on .../mnt/sdcard how it is set by default? And there's a way to pack my system files in a zip archive and restore it by recovery console like by just pressing on install update.zip?
Here is some info about my hardware so maybe someone knows a popular tablet with the same conf.

Any advice on how to obtain root would be fantastic.
Update
Right, I read on another forum about Chinese phones and tablets with a certain type of chipset can have the firmware / rom copied directly from the device in the form of a scatter file which you then use to create the image on your pc.
I already tried the tools but unfortunately, the software is not compatible with my tablets hardware.
I have now sent an email to the manufacturer explaining that my tablet is stuck in a bootloop and even the reset pin and recovery modes won't work and have requested a copy of the original firmware to flash to my device.
If I am successful in obtaining a copy of the firmware / rom, is there a guide explaining how to modify it in order to root it and how to make a recovery compatible with my device.
At the moment, this is all relying on me getting the firmware / rom from the manufacturer but, if I am successful, I will share my modded + rooted rom with the rest of xda.
While I am waiting for a response from the manufacturer, does anyone know if it is possible to "rip" the current rom / bootloader / etc from the tablet, just in case they don't send me the files I requested?
Any news on this at all? I have an 8inch cello win 8 tablet that won't start up so any future info on cello tablets would be handy.
Any news?

OVERVIEW:
This thread is not intended as a guide or tutorial for installing stock firmware on the BLU Grand X3+. Rather, this is intended as a resource for device owners and developers for downloading stock firmware. After a great deal of searching for this firmware online, I discovered that many sites charge a membership or usage fee for downloading the firmware and, on other sites, Furthermore, anybody that charges a fee for firmware packages -- that are otherwise free of charge on.other repos -- is nothing but a crook. On many of these sites I also found broken and inoperable download links. I was able to dig online and I located one complete firmware package for the BLU Grand X3+. I have uploaded the package to my own cloud storage and I've linked it below to share with others who need it. I am also including links to the latest SPD Upgrade Tool and the Spreadtrum NPI USB Drivers.

Flashing a custom Android on a no-name tablet / phablet

Hi,
I just bought a cheap no-name phablet (tablet with SIM card slot) on eBay (used, I want to use it for my doorbell system). It has an Android 8.1.0 on it and the settings say it's a model "K4", serial number
Code:
0123456789ABCDEF
(which perplexed me a bit in the first place), the boot screen says "MediaTek" which I found out seems to be the CPU's manufacturer. Build number is
Code:
O11019 test-keys
and kernel version is
Code:
3.18.79
. The ebay article said the tablet manufacturer was Padgene which I couldn't find any information about (except for this Amazon article).
Now I somehow fear (for the serial number alone) that this is some kind of weird Chinese Android ROM no one knows what it really does in background. And so, I want to flash a custom ROM on the tablet.
Now my questions:
1. How is it possible to find out the real hardware manufacturer to find out which Android ROM I would need?
2. Are there even custom Android ROMs out there for those Chinese no-name tablets at all?
3. How do I flash it, should I use TWRP for it or choose a different way?
Thanks in advance, taiBsu
Not the manufacturer is of any interest, but device's hardware.

Thank you, I downloaded and installed Magisk on the tablet and yet downloaded the link of the described "Android 10 factory image" (it's valid for my Toshido tablet too, right?.. ), then I extracted all into my pc, and copied a file named "boot.img" into my tablet as described on the thread (as I understood..)...for now I wished ask you if till now I did right.. (I didn't install the "Boot.img" file yet, because I still have to install ADB and FASTBOOT tools because I tried but my Linux OS is giving me some problems w repository 'n I'm trying to solve hoping soon...)
I'd like if someone can follow me in these steps... I hope to not annoy you I'd be very gratefull if you can do, 'cause I still have very little experience...
