CWM Backup file - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Just wanted to know where the nandroid backup from cwm gets saved? It says sdcard/cwm/backup .But there's no folder such as backup in the cwm folder, although it shows up in recovery mode (the backup file). I was hoping I could find the file and move one of them to my PC so as to save some space on the phone.
Any help would be appreciated..
Thanks

Its in data/media/clockworkmod (which is a slightly quicker way to get there)
And I explain why here:

Which is also why I would recommend switching recovery to either Philz or TWRP

I just backed up my N5 with CWM and I can't find the file... I tried all locations shown here with ES file explorer and these dirs are empty... Or at least they show empty.
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
N5 - rooted - Stock rom - franco kernel - CWM recovery

After a backup has been taken, does the storage show less space available?
How about taking another backup and see whether it's working or not?
PS: Instead of CWM, can you try Philz? It's based on CWM with added goodies! I find it a lot better.

Figures. I thought it wasn't showing hidden files even though I checked the "show hidden files" box.
Clicked "Root Explorer" and lo and behold, there's a **** ton of stuff in there.
This was driving me insane (and filled up my storage too grrrrrrrrrrrrr), thanks rootSU.
Ok one last question, is there a way to view all files in windows as well when the device is connected via USB?

No probs

[ROM] (2/28/13) NANDROID Restore Stock FR 2.22 V10f / GB 2.33 V21e and 2.34 V21y

Stock Nandroid Restores for 2.22 Froyo and 2.33/2.34 GingerBreadfor T-Mobile G2x LG P999 only!
(These Nandroid restores are not rooted and are in complete stock condition.)
Instructions:
1. You must have ROM Manager installed and or ClockworkMod Recovery flashed and an external sdcard installed. Then have the directory and file contents of the "LG-P999-V10f.zip" or "LG-P999-V20e.zip" file extracted to your external SDCard in the /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/LG-P999-V10f directory. If the directory does not exist then create it.
There must be a directory called "LG-P999-V10f" or "LG-P999-V21e" or "LG-P999-V21y" in the "/sdcard/clockworkmod/backup" subdirectory and the files must be directly in that directory, not in another nested directory or Nandroid will not find the files. (Note: If you have any spaces in your directory name. You will get a md5 check some error.)

2. Run ROM Manager and choose Reboot into Recovery or boot phone into clockworkmod recovery.
3. In recovery go down to backup and restore, choose restore.
4. Select LG-P999-V10f or LG-P999-V21e or LG-P999-V21y and choose Yes - Restore.
5. When the restore finishes do not reboot yet. Do a "wipe data/factory reset" from the recovery menu (just to be thorough).
6. When it completes choose Reboot.

Just to clarify a bit. Drop the folder into clockworkmod/backup/ on your SD card. Made no sense when I first looked at the file path.
Tried this as a restore since my connectivity still sucks. I am getting a MD5 miss match. . . . What ever that means, I have no idea.

Transfer Titanium backups to new phone?

I am getting a new phone tomorrow. Can I make backups of my apps with titanium and then just transfer the backups to my new phone, reinstall titanium and restore? I'd like to think it's a simple yes.
Sent from my Crespo using xda premium
Yes.
Use TI to make the backups, copy the backup folder to the new phone (its super easy if they both have microSD),then reinstall TI and restore apps. Be careful with system apps as they probably will not work on the new phone unless it is the same model.
Bumping this thread because I want to be exactly sure.
I want to transfer my Ti backup of all my downloaded users apps & data from my current Nexus 7 to the new one I just purchased.
So if I go to File Explorer and go to my main SDcard directory :
/storage/emulated/0/
And scroll down until I see the folder labelled
TitaniumBackup
Copy the entire folder to USB drive and then copy that entire folder over to the SDcard storage in the new tablet
Once I reinstall amd start upTi backup, it should automatically recognize my apps backup from the TitaniumBackup folder, right?

[Q] ADB restore ends prematurely on Android L

Hi, I'm using a google play store Nexus 5, and trying to restore a ADB backup (.ab file, not pulled files) and for some reason it keeps saying 'restoration ended' on my phone while the computer continues to send data. Anyway I can force it to continue/ restore the .ab from recovery?
Thanks very much for your help, I've searched the forums but could find little on the matter.

I've had issues restoring .ab file backup on my nexus 5. However it works flawlessly without the ".ab" i.e naming my backup as say "backup" works where naming it "backup.ab" fails.

ROM manager problem on nexus 5

Hi all,
I have rooted my nexus 5 for some time already and have learned about some really basic understandings regarding ROMs and android. I do realize the usefulness of nandroid backup so i made one with the help of ROM manager and its clockwork recovery. A while ago i flashed cyanogenmod and It all worked out quite well but I eventually decided to have my stock android kit kat back by restoring the nandroid backup. Everything worked out and i was happy.
I copied the backup files from the "secure location" /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup and to the sd card using es file explorer and eventually to my computer using the USB cable. Today i learned about xposed framework and i thought i would give it a try so i intended to make a nandroid backup again using the same procedure with rom manager (since i did make a few tiny changes to my phone since the last backup).
Here's the problem:
The rom manager app failed to backup or do anything as nothing happened after i pressed the "Backup Current ROM" button and clicked ok to the backup name popout.Even the recovery setup and reboot into recovery choices at the top of the app don't do anything after i press them. And i was stupid enough to delete the first backup files from my phone so currently i only have the backup on my computer. I tried to copy my first backup files back into the /mnt/shell/emulated/clockworkmod/backup folder but the path is gone as the /mnt/shell/ folder is empty.
I am desperate for some answers and support regarding this issue. I realize this might not be a nexus 5 problem so i am willing to move this thread to anywhere that's appropriate.
Don't use ROM manager. I've seen a lot of people bootlooping their phones after using it. Flash Philz Touch recovery and then make a nandroid backup from the recovery. See whether /mnt/shell/emulated/0/clockworkmod/backup/ has your files or not?

If rom manager takes a backup using cwm recovery, then YES. You can restore it via Philz Touch. Copy the backup folder and put it in /sdcard/clockworkmod/. This is where all my Philz Touch backups are stored. If philz is using /data/media on your phone then clockworkmod folder will be present over there. You can toggle these paths in Philz Touch.
Philz will detect /data/media/0 as sdcard so need move /data/media/clockworkmod to /data/media/0/clockworkmod

Bootloop after editing build.prop

Today i wanted to change model in build.prop file to Samsung Galaxy S6. I had root and i did this by using ES File Explorer. After that i got stuck in bootloop. I still can enter TWRP Recovery and I have oryginal build.prop file. Problem is that if I copy oryginal build.prop to system folder by using File Manager in TWRP i am still getting bootloop. Every single reboot a file copied by me inside /system is deleted.
I really don't want to do full format so i appreciate any help from you guys. Cheers.

Oh I see. Make sure the system partition is mounted in the "Mount" menu. Copy your build.prop. I dont know if it possible doing it in GUI but you may have to change the privilages of the file to 644 (rw-r--r--) and the ownership to root:root
It's weird. I just copy again my backup file and did "fix permissions" action in TWRP. Now my N5 is working fine. Thanks for help.

Sure, certainly, but since it also wipes your data, I'm not sure if it's better than unlocking (if you haven't) and installing a recovery.

Should be able to just fine. If your bootloader is already unlocked just fastboot flash TWRP and you cancel access your files like mention a few posts back. If your bootloader is still locked (unlocking it wipes your phone) I believe you can do a temporary recovery install with one of the root kits like skip softs. I've never done it but read about it.

Ehm... Sorry... But, this is not going to work, because recovery erases ONLY userdata partition. And system is on seperate partition. If system partition detects that there is no data in userdata, it's gonna start the setup. But in this case, bootloop is cause by edited version of build.prop, which location is in system partition not boot, kernel or userdata. So, there is EDL mode, if you have a lcoked bootloader.
