Just wondering how many people are getting duplicate(or multiple) SMS messages?
(I get them no matter what SMS app I use, HTC, Hangouts, GoSMS, etc)
Update: For those that are still on STOCK (w/o root.)
Verizon said there is an update coming to address this issue, but Verizon is not the most reliable when it comes to updates.
(Even though HTC has the Advantage, Verizon still likes to control everything)
I was before I flashed a Rom, and removed all that Verizon crap! As there were more than one apps for messages. Since I updated though, I haven't had one duplicate.

I'm confused because you first said you Flashed a "ROM" then you said you "Updated." ??
I "disabled" the Verizon Messaging app, as well as the Hangouts app via App Manager, but I still get the Duplicate/Multiple Messages...
I've received some of the message 5+ time...

I've got an AT&T One X and my friends are saying it's sending SMS messages to them twice. Is there a fix for this? Is there any way to use the stock ICS messaging app?
I had this issue as well. Are you using the new lte sim card that came with the phone? I was just using my old micro sim and manually added my apn settings which resulted in double texts and texts not received. Also weak signal could be a contributing factor. Lastly, do you use the stock messaging app? I use go SMS and still had that problem. Resolved by activating the new sim with the stock apn settings.

personally i haven't anyone having this issue beside you...
however I remember this is one of the 4.0.3 problem...that happened with galaxy s2 on on some of their rom...
try to reflush the RUU...
I'm using a new SIM.
I'm also sending double texts most of the time. I'm using a Rogers HTC one X, with a virgin mobile sim card (unlocked phone)
I'm using the stock rom as well.
I keep getting duplicate messages from friends sometimes get 3 of the same messages with the same time stamp.

Up... anyone else find a solution?
double texts
Same here. Rogers HTC one X on virgin mobile (with new virgin mobile SIM)
I tend to send less doubles by using the stock app instead of GO SMS
Who's using go sms? Maybe that's the problem
Sent from my One X using xda premium
GO SMS
Yes, it appears that GO SMS is the culprit (for me...)
I switched to handcent and none of my friends have reported doubles (for now..)
I also tried Stock and pansi with the same results.
but for some reason, I can never connect to GO backup or handcent account from the device, it throws an "Other Error"
I'm running KingCobra v1.2 ROM

Can you explain what this means? I don't know much about APN settings.
EDIT: I did some googling, and I found a page that lists the Stock APN settings and I checked mine, and they are normal.
Go sms is the problem. I stopped using it last year in October when the galaxy s2 came out. Every now and then they release an update that causes it.

One thing that kills me about stock touchwiz is the lack of group texting. I don't want to switch to a 3rd party SMS app, but I am thinking that is what I have to eventually do.

Im sure there is a way to load TW messenger to work on other roms. But how many people actually continue to have group conversations thru text?
Group texting like send one text to multiple people? I do it all the time even with mms's

I wish stock mms had the capability, but it's not a huge deal to me because Verizon messages works very well. You can even disable stock and Verizon messages will still work.

Ya Im confused too, touchwiz mms allows you to send to multiple people. I guess they mean keeping it all grouped cause the touchwiz one replies all come in to seperate threads?
If your rooted you can switch out the stock mms app for a aosp one, i.e. themed and stock

it isnt really "coping" when I have never wanted to group text. facebook tells all my friends what i want them to know about...
It drives me nuts when I get those group texts from iPhone users. I love how android does it, separate threads

Thank you. One iPhone user sends you a group text and then you gotta get bugged by every other iPhone user replying to the original sender. One of the most annoying things in the world. Sad thing is, they think it's cool.

I guess it's handy to the sender. I assume they haven't been on the other end though.
Is it even in option on a "stock" android phone. I've had moto, htc and now Samsung, I don't ever remember it being an option.

I can't stand the stock msg app. GoSMS Pro is so much better imo.

It separates the threads to each individual who responds. So if the group is 6 people, I get 6 different texts from 6 different people. HTC never had this problem! Coming from the rezound. Lol

It is standard now on aosp 4.2. I used to think it was annoying, but now after using it with friends, I see why it is useful personally.

It is honestly driving my crazy! I HATE tw does not support this and it is really annoying. A lot of my friends use group messaging and If i were to reply to the messages being sent I would have to reply to each individual person seeing how group messages appear in separate threads for me.

I dont think those links really help. From my understanding the framework has to be changed and it is only fixed in android 4.2 anyways so im not sure those links are to helpful sadly =(
Use a different messaging app if you don't like the stock.

Ok I have a question. I tried using GOSMS and When I tested out the group messaging feature my friends had told me that they had gotten the message as an individual message towards them and that it did not appear to them as a proper group message. Is there a certain feature inside gosms that you have to have checked in order to get this to work properly?

Well yes I have and I honestly could not spot a thing about group messaging. I could of easily missed something seeing how I tend to do that at times but I checked several times and still was un able to find a setting related to it.

Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone else is having problems with the new hangouts sending MMS?
I just received official update today and MMS will not send. I get the three little dots then after a few minutes, I get the "Message not sent. Touch to retry." Everything works fine through normal messaging app.
I've done a fair bit of googling. Seems like a few others are experiencing same problem. Somewhere mentioned that the app contains APN settings within, is it possible it does not yet have the Telstra apns built in? Why would they release it to us unfinished though?
HTC One XL
Android 4.2.2
Hangouts 2.0.128
Telstra network, Australia
It isn't unfinished. Just buggy. If everyone is having the problem, then it's the apps bug, not device
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
To be fair, I would randomly / often get this same behavior with the stock messaging app, before the hangouts update even rolled out, so it could be coincidence. If you send the MMS through the stock app (assuming you still have it) or some other app does it have no problem?
Hangouts just dosent seem to want to send mms, at all im guessing its a bug im HTC one XL 4.2.2 stock rom
Not only on stock. I used it over cm, slim, beanstalk, magio. None of them work and sometimes repeats messages (sending and receiving). And on the gs3.
So what I'm saying is that this is a widespread issue and we have sit tight. Either grit your teeth and use it or go back to the normal messages app
If I've helped you or you liked what I said, hit thanks!!!

yeah i ditched it. i mean i tried to use it. i really did, but it needs some work... ok it needs a ton of work and maybe another overhaul.
im using 8sms works nicely
I ditched it right away. Using the AOSP MMS.apk instead.
I'm using it, but mostly because I use hangouts messages over sms most of the time. Plus in getting use to it for once they incorporate Google voice since I have been using that for a few years already.

A little laggy when opening but it's fine. I like it.
Duh lol
ya
gosms for me always
I'm considering using AOSP MMS application. I do not use hangouts for anything. Although I have no issues replying to SMS, I find composing a new SMS cumbersome
Hangouts sucks to me... Not sure why they removed the stock messaging app and also why they removed the stock browser as well. I've been using Textra for SMS. It's lightweight with a bit more customization options than 8sms or the CM app.
I tried using Hangouts texting for about a week and then switched to ChompSMS which I had been using prior to getting the Nexus 5. The one thing I missed when I ditched my iPhone and got a Galaxy Nexus a few years ago was the jailbreak texting app called BiteSMS. ChompSMS is basically BiteSMS for Android, created by the same developer. Have tried other texting apps but have not found anything that is better for me.
Ditched it. I don't like having SMS and Chat in the same screen. I think that hangouts needs to implement tabs. Hangouts | SMS at the top... this would make managing SMS a bit easier. I went back to Handcent SMS.
ditched it from day one as well haha. using textra
I'm having no issues with hangouts, but then again, before hangouts, I only used the stock messaging app.

I don't think it did. It's weird cuz when I'm in a group message with iphone and android users, I am able to see the pic. But from an iphone user it's blank. I went on the Apple support website and unregistered a couple iPhones so I don't know if that worked or not. I'm currently waiting for an mms from a friend lol. Does rooting cuz an issue? I got my wife the same phone same day and she is able to receive mms but she isn't rooted.....
Edit. SO I got an mms from my friend. Not sure if my other friends iphone is through issue or not....

I used to have the exact same problem.... once I started using Google Hangouts it fixed everything.
I had the same problem when using my LG G2. But, I sometimes was not able to receive MMS's from Android AND iPhone users. It got very frustrating. I am always in full, or near full LTE, or on a stable WiFi connection. The only, temporary, solution was to use another messaging app. I tried a handful, got sick of that, so just used Hangouts as my default. That fixed the problem!... For a couple of weeks, then I would get the same "broken" image thumbnail where the picture or text that the MMS was supposed to be.
Now that I'm on my G3, I noticed this problem was even more serious. Still in the AT&T store, I received an MMS, and was not able to download it. They exchanged it with another G3. Got home, same problem. It's a complete hit or miss, being sent to me from and Android or iPhone, I receive about 80% of the incoming MMS's, and the rest I will ask the person to send it to my email, or use whatsapp if that's an available option.
I have called and emailed about the problem and I've only gotten the responses that you think a "technical level 2" employee would give.
Waaaaaaaahhhhh. :crying::crying:
I had this same thing happen from an iPhone user (she was probably using verizon). My wife's iphone sent me an image a few minutes later and it worked fine. She is on ATT. So i wonder if it's a network problem.

Apple has admitted to delaying messages between Android and I phones in the past so it could be doing it again ("accidentally")
