Hangouts 2 MMS Not Sending - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone else is having problems with the new hangouts sending MMS?
I just received official update today and MMS will not send. I get the three little dots then after a few minutes, I get the "Message not sent. Touch to retry." Everything works fine through normal messaging app.
I've done a fair bit of googling. Seems like a few others are experiencing same problem. Somewhere mentioned that the app contains APN settings within, is it possible it does not yet have the Telstra apns built in? Why would they release it to us unfinished though?
HTC One XL
Android 4.2.2
Hangouts 2.0.128
Telstra network, Australia

It isn't unfinished. Just buggy. If everyone is having the problem, then it's the apps bug, not device
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

To be fair, I would randomly / often get this same behavior with the stock messaging app, before the hangouts update even rolled out, so it could be coincidence. If you send the MMS through the stock app (assuming you still have it) or some other app does it have no problem?

Hangouts just dosent seem to want to send mms, at all im guessing its a bug im HTC one XL 4.2.2 stock rom

Not only on stock. I used it over cm, slim, beanstalk, magio. None of them work and sometimes repeats messages (sending and receiving). And on the gs3.
So what I'm saying is that this is a widespread issue and we have sit tight. Either grit your teeth and use it or go back to the normal messages app
If I've helped you or you liked what I said, hit thanks!!!

[Q] No MMS after rooting

Hi all -
I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727 and I have just rooted last night. This morning, I am unable to receive MMS picture as I usually can from my girlfriend, who is an iphone user. If I send an MMS pictures to myself, it works fine. I read somewhere you have to reset your APN settings, which I've done but it doesn't seem to have changed anything. I've also rebooted a few times. I should tell you that I have backed-up and uninstalled the stock messaging app, since I use Go SMS exclusively. I tried to restore it but was unable to. Could this be the problem or do I need to make more changes to my APN settings?
Thanks in advance
If you search for skyrocket APN's you should get an idea of the settings (PTA is the only one I use)
If you long press the message, does it let you see the attachment/recognize the message as a mms?

na
it just shows the text - no mms. I got one successfully from my brother (who's on an android), so i'm waiting to see if I can get one from the iphone
take a look at GO SMS in the market and what it supports; it may not support MMS. A lot of apps don't process MMS texts just fyi.
So message details only recognizes it as a SMS, but only when sent from an iPhone? Can you have them turn off imessage? I'm going to guess that's part of the issue

Just thought id mention this, my mom, dad and sister all have iphones and tried sending me MMSs yesterday, did not work just continuously say downloading.
however i called my mom and while on the phone she sent me the mms again, i checked it while on the phone and it successfully downloaded.
could it have been a fluke? or is there something that changed while i was on the phone?
I had constant moms problems with family/clients using iPhones with imessage enabled
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA
If you turn off DATA or momentarily don't have data on; MMS will stick at "downloading...."
you have to disable "Auto Retrive" in Messaging settings then attempt to download the MMS again.
hm if android receives android, I bother it is the problem of your phone.
What you should do is a simple delete and install from the market, to start again.
If nothing changes, I should throw you girlfriends iPhone in a lake and take care she will get an SGS2
Any solution?
Hi all,
Has there been any sign of a solution for this issue yet? I just rooted my GS2 LTE and can not seem to send or receive MMS to anyone at all. I do not want to download any other aps to do it for me, I just want to figure this out. I've also read a lot about changing APNs, any ideas on that?
Thanks in advance.
Guys how can you expect any help if you don't include a carrier in your post?
I know that for rogers when I flash a new rom I have about 4-5 APNs in my list. I actually have to remove one labeled MMS from the bottom of the list and leave the one that is marked as LTE. Then after a reboot I can get MMS no problem. BTW GoSMS does do MMS, I used to use it but have since been using the stock SMS/MMS app.

Sorry, it was late at night/ early in the morning. Thought I included he fact that I was with Rogers. I also have a few APNs. I've played around with a few of them and now I seem to sometimes be sending pictures. It's entirely inconsistent and still takes over 5 minutes to send on the rare occasions it decides to.

I may have found the solution to my issue. I deleted all APNs and made one Rogers APN to act as all of them. I used the instructions I found on a website which I am apparently too new to link to. So far I have managed to send and receive picture texts to myself 100% of the time within a reasonable timeframe. I will be back if that changes when I message other people. Thank you all again for your help.

Sending double messages?

I've got an AT&T One X and my friends are saying it's sending SMS messages to them twice. Is there a fix for this? Is there any way to use the stock ICS messaging app?
I had this issue as well. Are you using the new lte sim card that came with the phone? I was just using my old micro sim and manually added my apn settings which resulted in double texts and texts not received. Also weak signal could be a contributing factor. Lastly, do you use the stock messaging app? I use go SMS and still had that problem. Resolved by activating the new sim with the stock apn settings.

personally i haven't anyone having this issue beside you...
however I remember this is one of the 4.0.3 problem...that happened with galaxy s2 on on some of their rom...
try to reflush the RUU...
I'm using a new SIM.
I'm also sending double texts most of the time. I'm using a Rogers HTC one X, with a virgin mobile sim card (unlocked phone)
I'm using the stock rom as well.
I keep getting duplicate messages from friends sometimes get 3 of the same messages with the same time stamp.

Up... anyone else find a solution?
double texts
Same here. Rogers HTC one X on virgin mobile (with new virgin mobile SIM)
I tend to send less doubles by using the stock app instead of GO SMS
Who's using go sms? Maybe that's the problem

GO SMS
Yes, it appears that GO SMS is the culprit (for me...)
I switched to handcent and none of my friends have reported doubles (for now..)
I also tried Stock and pansi with the same results.
but for some reason, I can never connect to GO backup or handcent account from the device, it throws an "Other Error"
I'm running KingCobra v1.2 ROM

Can you explain what this means? I don't know much about APN settings.
EDIT: I did some googling, and I found a page that lists the Stock APN settings and I checked mine, and they are normal.
Go sms is the problem. I stopped using it last year in October when the galaxy s2 came out. Every now and then they release an update that causes it.

Text messages not being sent

Is anyone else having a problem with text messages not being sent? Im using handcent and every so often a message will show the spinning icon indicating that its being sent. It just keeps spinning and spinning. When I open the stock messaging app and check the status of the message it says it was sent right when I had originally tried to send it through handcent. The person I send the message to never gets the message though.
Has anyone else had this problem? Am I going to be stuck using the stock app?
I had this problem, went back to the stock app, but it only happens when I'm at work and I go in the basement and then come out, because of the reconnecting to data bug I have to restart my phone or it won't get data, send texts or anything, I usually take my 4s to work

I've had this problem as well. Sometimes i send the message again and that solves the problem. I am not rooted and still using the stock ruu. I'm hoping it's just due to a connectivity bug that will be remedied in the OTA update...if it ever comes.

Same here. Failed messages, failed notification, dropped signal etc etc. Hoping the official OTA fixes all of that soon.

My phone is having this same problem, except it's a little worse. The phone reports the SMS as not sent but it still reaches its destination, so I'll have iPhone users getting 2-4 copies of one text. Embarrassing.
Thanks for the replies guys. Although Im glad to hear that its not just me (I can avoid requesting a replacement) it still sucks and I too hope it gets fixed with an update.

I'm hoping that this is a software issue, because my 30 days are up in a few days and they're out of stock.. because I have this same exact problem.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
When you sent the message with handcent, did you happen to reply with the pop up reply box?
I use go sms and had the same issue where text were not being sent. But it only happens if I reply from the pop up notification. If I text from within the go sms app, I can text perfectly fine. I love the pop up reply so that I don't have to exit an app to reply, especially with the strict app management on the hox.

Last time it happened, I had sent a text from within the app. I installed go sms also, but I really want to use Handcent. I love that I can reply using the popup on handcent without unlocking my screen. I cant do that with go sms.

Another +1 on this. Occasionally have the problem with SMS, but often have this issue with MMS. Problem is, on my end, everything appears to be fine and that the message was sent, but the recipient is not receiving. I verified this by sending multiple SMS and MMS messages to my wife's phone, some of which were received, some of which were not received.
I have been having this problem also, both using the HTC SMS messenger and Hand cent SMS. Also lose signal from time to time for no reason. I think I'll just get a new phone before the 30 day mark.

It appears to be an issue with all 3rd-party SMS apps.
That said, ChompSMS seems to have identified the problem and resolved it completely. Ever since the last update I've had zero problems with SMS.
So, other apps should hopefully update soon too, or you can switch to Chomp.

Thank you for that information. Im going to try ChompSMS because this is one problem that I can not deal with and if it doesnt stop happening I will have to return my phone and thats something I really dont want to have to do.

I had completely forgotten about chomp. Thanks for reminding me. I started using it and while I still get messages not sending if I reply to a text from the pop up notification, it doesn't do it nearly as much as go sms. With go sms, the message not sending would happen one after another but not with chomp. And even though I don't like the sound, I've set chomp to make a sound after a successful sent message so at least I can tell if my message has sent without having to open the app.
Thanks again for mentioning chomp

SMS not sending from hancent
Having exactly the same problem..
I use Handcent and usually reply from the popup;
but I'm not sure if that's the cause of it not sending the SMS.
I've had the same problem on my old HTC desire.
This is making my GF very angry from time to time
I have the exact same issue i use Go SMS and i hit send but it never does instead it shows the little arrow that represents sending and it never finishes

I have this issue with all my MMS. They never send on first try.

Did anyone ever find a permanent fix for this. Go sms works better then others for me, but is in no way as reliable as it should be.
Is this a problem for every owner of the HOX or just some phones? Not sure if I should get a replacement.

[SPRINT] Can't send MMS

Posted in Networking as that seemed more appropriate, but I couldn't find a delete button, so if a mod could take care of this..
Thank you!
The issue has been happening to me recently (as well as my girlfriend, also on Sprint) that we cannot send MMS messages.
My phone is an Epic 4g Touch on AOKP and rooted, hers is a Nexus S 4g running stock.
No idea what is causing the issue, but whenever we try to send an MMS to someone it just sits there saying "Sending..." until it possibly errors out.

Cricket is having similar issues and they roam on sprint. I wonder if sprint also uses cricket towers.

CM 10.1 Won't allow sending of MMS

I've rommed my phone finally to CM 10.1 the latest official version by _CZ for some reason it takes ages to send a picture message if any at all some times it doesn't even send . I can get them perfectly fine I just can't send them out in a timely manner..... I've been connected to wifi since the start of rom . I've used it in the past and tried using it off wifi and it sends just like alway it can take up to 30 minutes or more .... is there a solution to this help would be greatly appreciated.
I followed the proper steps of flashing down to a fine line of detail . I'm not exactly sure what else to do ... some people suggested checking my APN but I'm not savvy in such ways . Anywhom Help is apprecated.

You're using the XT897C version right? Not XT897? The CDMA version?
I sent some patches loooong ago back when CM10.1 first came out for the Q, which fixes MMS issues. Unless something changed/broke recently, this should still work.
I'm a little confused on what you've tried. So you send with wifi on, fails. You send with wifi off...? What happens?
You said it takes 30 minutes - does that mean it sends eventually?
Are you using any third party apps to send MMS, or just the built-in "Messaging" app?
Yes on Wifi it never sends at all it stays on the sending ....
On Regular Mobile Data It is a hit or miss and rarely sends .
And as far as I know I am on the XT897 I have a sprint cdma not a Gsm phone .
Edit- I'm using build in Messaging application .

Can you check the download that you flashed? It should still be on your SD card, or perhaps on your computer still? Make sure it's XT897C, not XT897.
I'm trying to think of how I tested it - I thought I tried with wifi enabled, and it was no issue. So you've gotten *some* messages to send, but very few? What happens, the app just says "Sending..." and they never send?
If you are running the wrong build, that would do it - Sprint's MMS is really finnicky and needs special settings for it to work properly.
Its the XT897C as far as I know I just flashed it today . In the past it sent but it took some time . Today I have not been able to send at all its been stuck on sending . I've tried sending messages to my wife. Picture messages. To test it out . And it has not sent one at all on wifi or on mobile data .
On the receiving end I've gotten mms . No problem so far my friend sends I get .

Hmmmm well that's unfortunate. Definitely looks like you have the right build downloaded.
Unless something broke recently, I'm not really sure. I know this used to work
Edit - I don't think you'll have an APN option to check, being CDMA - we don't use APN's (technically).
Perhaps try a third party piece of software like GoSMS.
I'll try thank you for trying to help I'll see if a third party application works I'll get back to you asap.
Edit- I did what you suggested it seems handcent works perfectly .I tried Go sms It did the same thing as stock loaded messaging application for cm.
On the upside you helped out a lot thanks .
