[Q] No rom seems to work, phone doesn't boot up - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
this is my first post, so i hope i'm posting it right, following every rule.
I've got a problem with my moto g. At the moment i bought it, I unlocked the bootloader, rooted it, upgraded it into KitKat, tried out a few different roms, installed Xposed, etc. and i never had any problem ( at least not one i coudn't figure out how to resolve).
However yesterday i wanted to try out Cyanogenmod 11, with yesterday's nightly 09/04/2014. I downloaded it from this post :
http//forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2608377
Downloaded Gapps, too. Put both of them as zip in the moto g, did the 3 wipes and installed both zip's ( first cyanogen and then gapps).
However, once it rebooted, the cyanogen arrow kept moving around, endlessly. ( i waited for around 20 min)
In case it's relevant, i'll say that at the moment of downloading the nightly i lost internet connection, however i managed to resume the download and decided to keep going.
But after seeing that i didn't manage to install the rom properly I decided to download the nightly again and push it via "adb push .... ".
I installed it again with CWM, but the cyanogen logo kept loading. Nothing happend.
I also tried to install other Roms : GPE, 4.4.2 stock version and i even tried downgrading it to 4.3 ( which had previously worked, but not this time :crying: ) .
Everytime i got the same error, the mobile stucks at the logo ( Google logo, motorola logo, cyanogen logo,... )
My bootloader is unlocked and i've already the 3 wipes, and chache & system format ( via CWM )
and if i try to install a zip via CMW i get the following error : "E: Can't mount /sdcard"
wipe dalvick cache doesn't work and there is no error displayed.
¿Can someone help me?
Thank you very much!

Best way for you right now is to flash your stock firmware back (through fastboot) and try cm11 on that.

[Q] How to restore CWM recovery from TWRP terminal?

[SOLVED]
So after having my Transformer for some time now (unlocked, rooted, and running CROMI) it began to get sluggish. I wanted to upgrade to something else, and decided to try PA HALO http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2376927
I missed something somewhere, prob the fact that I installed TWRP over my CWM that I had from long ago, instead of upgrading to the new CWM, or the fact that I'm still on the 10.4.4.25 bootloader. I rebooted into recovery, flashed the PA zip, rebooted into recovery, flashed the new GAPPS, and wiped the cache and Delvik. When I went to boot it up the "ParanoidAndroid3+" text and neon jellybean/fish thing show up, then nothing.
I (stupidly) did not make a new backup before doing this change (though there is one from my CWM, but TWRP doesn't seem to recognize it).
ADB does not seem to be working. When I select the USB icon, while using the power+volDown, I get the message "starting fastboot usb download protocol" and ADB does not see the device. If I let the device try and boot (when it gets stuck at the neon jb/fish) ADB sees the device, but gives the error <waiting for device> when I try and flash the new CWM. I seem to be able to access the terminal from TWRP, so I know there is a way to load the old CWM restore files, I just don't know how.
Help is needed.
found a way to do it, but I guess it took away my root when I flashed the new rom. Now I get "su is not recognized" from the terminal..... I'm downloading http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2107271 and will try to get the os to boot. I can always re root the device, but I kinda need the device to boot into something first.
You missed quite a lot to get yourself into that pickle.
The second line of the PA thread reads:
GET THE LATEST BOOTLOADER AND RECOVERY
The link leads you to the CM 11 thread where it says in no uncertain terms that you need to be on the 10.6.1.14.4 or later bootloader. You think a 10.4.4.25 bootloader will run a JB 4.3 rom?
I hope you get it working.... Good luck

Thanks for the kind kick to the nuts guy. I flashed the new bootloader (10.6.1.14.4) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2223918 that was already on the root of my tablet, downloaded GAPPS (4.2.2-4.3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2405292 and placed it on MicroSD card, and already had the PA rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2039557
Did some searching and came across a thread (can't find it now) that said to wipe before and after installing GAPPS.
It works now. The process went as follows:
1. Flash bootloader and reboot into recovery
2. Wipe cache/Delvik, flash GAPPS, wipe again
3. Flash rom
4. Reboot and wait for the rom to settle
Something is still wrong, or I'm not understanding the layout of PA, because I'm missing some options and buttons for some apps I've downloaded. I've made a back up with TWRP (for just in case), and am going to try getting CM 10.2 on there.

The "kick" was really meant as a friendly slap upside your head which was probably unnecessary since I hope you did that yourself already extensively - so I apologize
Glad you got it working

[Q] Stuck in recovery restart limbo

Hello all,
Last night I was trying to install the latest Gummy release on my Verizon Galaxy S3. This was the first time I have tried to flash a rom on this phone. It failed, and I rebooted my phone, and now it will only boot into the clockwork recovery.
I thought it may have been damaged as i was transferring the file to the device. I had an SD card in my droid X, So I put it in my Galaxy and formatted it with clockwork. Then I transferred the gummy release (that I also re-downloaded) from my computer to the SD card via a memory card reader. I put it in my Galaxy and tried to install the release, and it gave me a different error
Code:
E: Can't Open /external_sd/Gummy-2.1-01-09-14-NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
Edit: Tried a few other roms and they had the same issue, but Cyanogen Mod 10.2 worked. Anybody have any guesses why?
Edit2: Further developments, Trying to do the latest nightly fir the CM yields the same issue that Gummy's release gave me initially. It reports as follows:
Code:
E: Error in /external_sd/cm-11-20140110NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted
Is there possibly a firmware issue at play?
Did u unlocked ur recovery. And if ur trying to flash a KITKAT rom u need the latest clockwork recovery
I'm having this exact issue except I currently have TWRP 2.6.3. I wiped data, cache and internal and it actually booted the below ROM (the first boot) but once I got everything setup and rebooted the device it will not boot beyond recovery. It hangs on the Samsung boot logo. I've tried to restore to a 4.1.2 ROM as well as install 4.3 and 4.1.2 again multiple times but they will not boot. Any direction would be appreciated.

Sorry, forgot to mention, I did unlock with EZunlock. Would the clockwork on the play store be the latest one, or is there another place with more up to date versions?

Do you get the same error on install that I'm getting, ro are the installs finishing, but not booting?
Try goo manager or ez-recovery to install the latest recovery
right now i can think of
factory reset format data. Make sure u backup ur internal
Wen changing from rom to rom is a good thing to do a clean install
get the right gapps.
The 1st boot always takes time at least on me.
Sorry i cant think of more helpful things.. Been drinking
Looks like my recovery just needed an update. Thanks everyone.

Confirmed also an old recovery for me as well. Thank you very much!

[solved] OTA update (176.44.1) fails w/ CWM or ends in bootloop w/ stock recovery

Hi guys,
I'm running my Moto G 16GB on Kitkat 4.4.2 system version 175.44.1.falcon_umts.Retail.en.DE. Today it offered to download and install the latest OTA update (called 176.44.1.en.DE). I started the download and tried to install it.
After downloading the update was placed in /cache. The file name was 'Blur_Version.175.44.1.falcon_umts.Retail.en.DE.zip', which surprised me. I was expecting something like 'Blur_Version.176.44.1.falcon_umts.Retail.en.DE.zip'.
When I tried to install it without removing root and without going back to stock recovery it ended with a signature error in CWM. Installing the untrusted zip manually didn't work as well - as expected.
Then I tried to follow advise from other threads and went back to stock recovery (extracted from a full install package 'Blur_Version.175.44.1.falcon_umts.Retail.en.DE' - 444MB) That seemed to work and the install of the OTA update went fine before getting stuck on the boot animation on the first boot. It sat there for 10 minutes before I rebooted and restored a CWM backup.
I'm running out of ideas. Some say it's sufficient to go back to stock recovery temporarily. Others say you need to go back to full stock.
I have to repeat that I'm rooted and that I've de-activated a few unused apps (mainly harmless google stuff (hangout, search, music and so on) and Motorola Assist, Migrate and 'Context Services') .
Are there further findings about what stops the OTA from succeeding?
Many thanks in advance,
Kleo2

If your phone is rooted or there is a CWM installed or there is any change in system files then ota will fail till you flash stock rom. You can't just bring back stock recovery. You have to "delete" root as well.
There is some info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47495650&postcount=6
I will post my case here, I had the same problem, I had CWM and root and when I rebooted to update I get installation failed and boot loop.
Then I just flashed stock recovery (only) rebooted and now I already have the update installed

Hi, thanks for your replies. Because of your report and others, who state the same (installing stock recovery only to get the update working) I was hoping to get around going back to full stock. It always takes a lot of time to configure the phone the way it was configured before essentially wiping.
Just to repeat what I did: when I try to install the OTA while CWM is installed there's just an error message in CWM, the update fails, but the phone is working normally afterwards. It's just not updated.
When I try with stock recovery the update process finishes without errors, but the phone get stuck during the boot animation.
Maybe there's a way to fix the boot loop?
Looking forward to any suggestions
Cheers, Kleo2
I tried again and found a way without going back to full stock.
1. flashed stock recovery from full 175.44.1 image
2. let the phone download the OTA and restart to install it
3. ota install in stock recovery went fine
4. reboot -> stuck on boot animation again
5. flashed CWM and wiped cache AND dalvik cache
6. next boot took longer than normal but got past the boot animation
7. android optimized/cached my apps and then started normally
8. version is now 176.44.1 and the phone seems to work normally (after 30 minutes of usage)
Hope that helps someone and that I won't have issues going forward because I did it this way.
Cheers, Kleo2

I UPDATED my rooted Kitkat Tesco version SUCCESFULLY! and still rooted.
What I did:
1. install Motorola Device Manager (RESTART computer and telephone)
2. downloaded MotoTool
3. Made a Nandroid backup in CMW, made a backup with MotoTool too. Just in case
And deactived (did not uninstall) my Xposed framework modules (if you dont have it, you dont need to)
I have some system apps disabled, but didnt re-activate it. (was too lazy haha)
4. downloaded the correct ROM from: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=14 (Tesco UK 4.4.2)
5. unzipped the ROM and rename and overwrite the recovery.img to the exact name as in the MotoTool All In One 2.6\Data\KitKat\StockKitKatrecovery.img (Just for sure it's the same as my ROM, I dont know if all the ROMs have the same recovery sooo )
6. started MotoTool, unplug&replug device. Checked KitKat option in the program, did a connection check, it was okay. Did a NORMAL restart via progam. You have to grant permisson on your phone.
7. after reboot, rebooted the phone to FASTBOOT.
8. Checked Stock Fastboot in the program, it flashed succesfully. Then I went into recovery (1×down volume, then 1× up volume) checked if the recovery was working. It was working (android logo+ no command error message)
9. reboot (long press power button)
10. Updeted OTA, settings/inf./update.. blabla okay okay next next. Wait until it downloads (only 7.9 MB )
11. wait for the update to be done, then it reboots, then apps are being updated. Everything looks fine and working
+1 flash CMW or other recovery again.
Hope this helps! I was afraid to do it too. I'm not used to MotoTool and other Motorola stuff because I had a HTC Desire, it was much simplier with that. But no risk here either! Good luck!
So I am trying to put back my stock recovery so I can take the OTA, but after I flash the recovery and try to reboot to it, it says "No Command". I have reflashed TWRP and then the stock recovery again with the same result. The phone itself will boot fine, but I can't install the OTA as it gets an error part of the way into the install. Any ideas? I have the 1034.
EDIT: Well I remembered I did the H+ mod, so after reverting that the OTA flashed I had Faux Kernel before hand, but after reflashing it my wi-fi wont enable, any ideas?
Thanks!

Please please help
I have the same problem. I've tried to update the new OTA and failed. After restoring full stock rom, the system simply doesn't boot!
I had Faux Kernel and GravityBox but I didn't revert anything. I thought that a full stock rom would clear all system settings.
This is my version of stock (Blur_Version.174.44.9.falcon_umts.Retail.en.GB) and I tried to flash it several times now. No success. I get stuck on the boot logo.
I tried to downgrade to 4.3 using version Blur_Version.14.71.8.falcon_umts.Retail.en.GB. I was able to boot and see the initial setup but I have no WIFI! I was trying to install 4.3 then try to update via OTA but OTA only works with WIFI so I'm stuck.
I also tried installing the 24th Feb nightly build of Cyanogen and the device also booted but with no WIFI.
I really don't know what to do! Please help me. I've tried other stock images out of despair but none with sucess.
Does anyone have a clue to what might be to problem and how to revert it?
Thank you

At part 8, I am getting an image of the android guy with his stomach open with a big red '!'. That's 'no command' right?
Any ideas? I have no idea what I am doing
Guys, a really easy way to update is:
1. Install Philz recovery - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2639583
2. Reboot and then download the OTA update when prompted - select Install when prompted
3. It will now reboot into Philz recovery, install the update and reboot
4. You'll see Android is Upgrading...
5. Re-boot back into recover and re-install faux kernel
I have just upgraded my XT1032 on 174.44.9 en GB (rooted + faux008) to 176.44.1 using this... worked like a dream! All I had to do was re-install faux kernel as that was overwritten by the OTA, but Root was in-tact...
i have root, twrp recovery and faux kernel, the problem is only faux kernel? Or I must remove all? (root recovery etc)

[Q] No OS||Stuck at bootloop

So i decided to install the CM 12 on my MotoG.I downloaded the files and followed the instructions.I wiped cache, dalvik, data and did Format System but the installation failed. So I reboot my phone only to see that it was stuck at a bootloop.I get back to TWRP and I see that there was no OS installed.I decided then to flash 4.4.4 which worked, but after rebooting i was in a bootloop with no OS once again.I installed PhilZ Touch to see what's wrong. It says that I can't mount the system and the sdcard.I've tried Sideloading, adb pushing but everything fails...Is there anything i can do?Help is much appreciated

which stock rom did you try to flash using fastboot?
if it's the stock 4.4.4 it's probably going to fail, you need certain things to do (you can search around here) if you're using xt1033, you can search for (xt1033 stock) there's a guide that will get you up and going. On my moto g that has flashed stock 5.0.2 and cm12, i found out that i can't use the normal method to flash the stock 4.4.4 rom, rather i was forced to flash the 5.0.2 rom, since the fastboot command fails at almost everything, which would leave the phone unusable
oh yeah, here's the guideRESTORE TO STOCK
Nevermind.I formatted the data and it let me adb push the stock 4.4.4

[HELP] Stuck on Recovery Bootloop after OTA Update (CM14.1) , can't access Fastboot

Hi,
Just for you to know:
Model: r7plusf
Recovery: TWRP 3.0.2-0
----------------------------------------
So earlier today I did an OTA update (cm-14.1-20161205-NIGHTLY-r7plus.zip), but couldn't get my phone to boot.
So naturally, I tried wiping Cache and ART cache, but was still bootlooping.
Thought there might be someting wrong with my ROM and data, so I formated data and Installed ROM and GAPPS again after ADB pushing them onto my phone.
Now, and although CM14.1 and GAPPS are successfully installed on my Oppo R7 Plus, I can't boot into the OS. Every time I try reboot system, whether through POWER_BUTTON, RECOVERY or ADB, I just boot into Recovery.
Worst of all, for some unknown reason, I can't get into BOOTLOADER, neither through button combination, nor through Recovery nor ADB.
I found this article (http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-lg-g3/general/fix-recovery-loop-twrp-computer-t2873386) in the LG G3 thread about executing some shell commands, but I haven't tested testing it with my phone's variables because it might hard brick it...
Please Help!
[EDIT] I now have access to fastboot but still recovery looping like crazy.
I installed the same update via CyanDelta , worked like a charm ! hopefully you get back up and running.
[UPDATE] strangely I tried to flash stock recovery and boot CM13 and it worked!
Will try to flash twrp again and insall CM14

I had the same problem. Can't remember exactly how I resolved it. But I think, I use CM recovery to flash nightly. Then flash TWRP to flash gapps. For some strange reason, using CM recovery also show no enough disk space whenever I try to flash opengapps. But TWRP recovery can flash opengapps successfully.
Don't use the OTA, use adb sideload to flash the nightly next time. So far, adb sideload has not given me any issue to flash nightly.
Same problem...
I tried a lot of things nothing works and now I've installed the cm recovery but I have the "unauthorized phone" in terminal when I try to flash the ROM... I can do nothing because I can't enable the usb debugging. I don't know what to do.
If somebody can help I appreciate.

Since then I found how to fix it :
first of all I flashed cm13 through TWRP,
Then I flashed the stock recovery (Google it, I found it in OPPO forums) with fastboot,
After that I did a factory reset in the stock recovery,
Booted cm13 with stock recovery,
Then re-flashed TWRP,
From TWRP, I wiped both data and system partitions,
Then fresh installed cm14 and Gapps
And it worked!
Not sure if those are the exact steps I followed because all I did was a hole lot of messing around and trying absurd things out, but think this is how I fixed it.
Let me know if it worked for you or if you still can't fix your problem
Best of luck

Thank you very much!!!! I'll try tomorrow and tell you.
I appreciate a lot!
First of all now works but to be honest, I don't know if the way I fix makes sense or if is correct but not for the same reason I do but I'll try to explain...
I had cm-14.1-20161218-NIGHTLY and I tried to update via OTA to 20161220 the phone reboot and I get the bootloop. The first I thought, install again the ROM making wipe data and blabla... nothing work.
I tried to "reflash" the recovery, nothing. Flashed cm recovery, it always gave me error trying to flash the rom. I tried to install with stock recovery, errors too.
I was reading hundred of post looking for my issues, device unauthorized, "error 7" in twrp... I was crazy.
At last I thought, I've been trying to install from SDcard, if I try to install from internal memory? and I install again the twrp to transfer the ROM and Gapps to the internal memory and... it worked!!!!
Long story but with happy ending.
Thank you for your help I appreciate and sorry for my english.First of all now works but to be honest, I don't know if the way I fix makes sense or if is correct but not for the same reason I do but I'll try to explain...
