I have rooted my s3 with
GS3DebugFSRoot: Root the Verizon GSIII without flashing which says that it will not work with JB.
Until I find a solution to just root my s3 with JB can I stop the constant attempts to update my s3 ? Besides delaying it cause if I forget then I'm sort of screwed.
Thanks

I have a theory based on this, doesn't that app just keep root? We have a secured bootloader and that's been relocked by Verizon in each OTA. Accepting this OTA via custom recoveries, someone will inevitably try this on TWRP, shouldn't prevent the OTA from relocking the bootloader.
Is my line of thinking incorrect?

PolarBearMI,
1) There's already a root method for JB OTA in the dev section by open1your1eyes0
2) to prevent OTA's or their nagging notification, freeze "sdm1.0" using an app like Titanium Backup.

Yes that app just keeps root. People have been saying if they take it with a custom recovery it keeps root and unlocked, and recovery. However, this morning I'm seeing people say they got the unauthorized software screen street doing that so it must still relock the boot loader ( as it should).
My theory is this if you want to keep root, etc. Simply flash one if the pre rooted stock ROMs and the matching radios and rpm in your recovery of choice. If you want the official ota Odin to stock and take it, then re root. This way you are starting completely fresh.

boy all that sounds so much more complicated than the way I had initially rooted.
BTW I am ONLY interested in root, nothing else.
When I looked at open1your1eyes0 post entitled "[GUIDE] Jelly Bean Factory Image (Root/Recovery/Unlocked Bootloader)" it stated "official Jelly Bean leaks for Verizon Galaxy S III".
I was hoping to find a solution as very simple and specific to just rooting as I had in my original post.

Yes, follow the directions in that thread and you can upgrade to JB then root only while also keeping your app/game data.

I just updated my samsung galaxy s3 to jellybean 4.3 and really don't like the update. I would like to revert back to the official stock firmware that came before this 4.3 update. Can anyone tell me where I can download the firmware? Unfortunately all the links I found were not working.
From what I understand, the new bootloader included in the update makes reversion impossible.
As of today, attempting to revert will brick you.

Well, looks like I jumped the gun yesterday before I did my homework. I tried to revert back to 4.1.2 with ODIN...and now I have a brick. The phone will turn on, but with the stupid message about not having authorized Verizon software on the device. I'm very hopeful that someone will figure out a fix to this soon. Thanks in advance to anyone who comes up with an answer!

That means you are trying to flash a custom rom with a locked bootloader. Are you flashing a rooted 4.1.2? You did not take the update though, right? If not, unlock your bootloader and all will be well.

Thanks ShapesBlue. I'd definitely recommend NOT taking the OTA for 4.3 for a while. I'm about to try to flash an official 4.3 update file, to see if that will work, but I'm not hopeful it will do anything for me.

Let's just say I had a lapse in judgement. I tried to flash a stock 4.1.2 image after taking the OTA update to 4.3. (Yeah, I know.) I then tried to flash 4.1.1, and then to the stock 4.0.4, which finally worked. I have tried flashing a 4.3 update file from the stock recovery, but it won't load since it says it's expecting to update files from 4.1.2, not 4.0.4.
Any suggestions?

Any luck for unlocking the bootloader? I'd love to get my CM love back! My sister updated the phone for me, she thought she was doing me a favor. I was playing around with stock at the time cuz I could always restore from Nandroid backup before.
Ok so after I flashed this on my bricked phone I'm back up and running 4.3 and happy,. But when I put the phone into download modeECUREBOOT i get this, is this normal?
ODIN MODE
PRODCUCT NAME: SCH-I535
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Offical
SYSTEM STATUS: CUSTOM
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty bit: 1
BOOTLOADER AP SWREV: 1
Other then custom system status becaused im rooted is everything else normal?
Yes that looks good. One thing im wondering is why some people are getting there warranty bit flaged. Mine still says 0 even after I tried to downgrade, fix with Verizon tool, root then flash this Odin file twice rooting both times.
Just wondering if anyone has figured out root for 5.1.1 yet, or if it will be possible?

I second this wholly!
Does the towelroot method work?
Towelroot doesn't work.
I've tried a whole bunch of different methods adapted from other devices but nothing works. Different bootloaders, kernels and such. I'm not a dev so my knowledge is limited but I am willing to try whatever if anyone has any ideas.
It's a shame. This is a hell of a tablet on 5.1.1. Just missing root. Don't want to downgrade but I'm mostly missing multi window for some apps that don't support it. And a few other things.

I'm on the p907a. The locked bootloader is the issue. Like I said I'm not a dev so I didn't understand the whole locked bootloader thing. Still don't completely but I've learned a bit trying different things.

yeah, there are several of wifi hotspot apps out there that work on 6.0. Might want to poke around in the themes and apps section. Sometimes people get a little anxious about talking about hotspot apps because of the debate over it circumventing carriers money making abilities and that violates the TOS of XDA, but the last thing i saw the mods on here were ok with talking about it
I did, from PK1, and PL2 to OK4. So it is posible. Try redownloading/Odining OK4. Also there is a PK1 ROM with hotspot modded.

here is the list of sprint basebands just for reference in case youre interested
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G900P/SPR/
and youre in the 6.0.1 family and if you got it that way, youre likely not going to be able to downgrade (if thats what youre wanting to do), but you can root by flashing the PCA baseband then follow the 6.0.1 root instructions (im not sure, but i think theyre still just installing the appropriate TWRP, boot to twrp and flash supersu while in twrp)
