OK, here's the thing. I got a broken HTC One S (actually it was not broken, it was missing the antenna fix cable), so I got it, I installed it and VOILA, all good, could get the phone to pick up HSDPA signal (I even downloaded Angry Birds via 3G), but a few mins later it went to zero. Rebooting the phone or toggling airplane mode causes the phone to do the same thing again. 5 bars, HDSPA connection, but only for a few seconds. Then it drops to zero again.
EDGE works like a charm, as does GPRS. So, clearly the thing is the 3G signal receiver/antenna/i dont know. Tried every ROM from stock 4.1.1 to Liberty Sense 5.5 (going through Viper and Maximus HD), tried 1.20 and 1.35 radio and both 2.15 and 2.16 HBOOT's. Tried searching, tried Google, and I can't find an answer.
I don't know if Bilal or some other One S genious watches the general section, but guys I would be enourmously thankful if you can at least try to help me out here. Anyways, that's all, thanks in advance
Julian.
P.S: I am on Movistar Argentina network, which I am 100% sure works with the HDSPA 850 network, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Ok look at these pictures, it shows me that I'm connected to LTE, even though I have a bad signal yet I get no 4G icon and no data. I'm very confused because it was working fine but then just stopped, are my modem settings messed up? Because when have I have Rev. A. set to eHRPD I get nothing so I have it on Rev. A. To enable, and when I put radio to cdma(PRL) I at least get 3G, but no 4G when I'm set to LTE/evdo as you can see in the pics, even though it says I'm connected. So are my settings messed up in another way? I have tried restores different roms, and have even put on the new radio, no luck, I don't think its a faulty phone because it was working before and now it still shows it recognizes the LTE, but I get no 4G in the status bar, so I'm very confused, I really don't feel like unrooting just to get it replaced because I think I'm just missing some setting or something. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Turn airplane mode on, wait 3 minutes, turn it off, and you should be good to go. As 4G continues to roll out, there are bound to be bugs and hickups.
-95 signal strength is really weak. i wouldnt be surprised if it didnt register because the signal is so weak. i guess the bigger question would be why isnt it switching to 3g when the signal is so poor
I have a similar issue. My 4G icon will be visible and it will be working. I deliver pizzas so I leave the phone in my car tethered to my XOOM. When I get back to my car everything will look fine but my data wont be working. Sometimes if I try to go to a website on my phone within a minute or so it will recover, but I've been having to do the airplane mode thing. It works but still takes several minutes to get internet back. I'm in Las Vegas and 4G works just fine. I started having the problem recently. I think when BAMF went to the latest RUU base, the LTE/3G transition fixes seem to have had the opposite effect.

What are your Radio versions. I am presently reverting my radios since my problems started when I updated to the latest ones.

I installed the radio that came with das bamf 1.5, but i was still having issues before
I have tried both radios and I'm getting the same results. I'm sure something going with the network. We just have to be patient and give them time.
Hi there,
I'm using Revolution HD 3.6.1 with its radio and relative RIL (which becomes with the rom by default). Obviously I have S-OFFed and rooted.
I'm experiencing some hiccups in 3G data connections. I don't know if it's due to the carrier (Wind Italia) or something in the phone (maybe the radio doesn't support it at all?). I'm in Europe, precisely in Italy.
Maybe should use an european version of radio? Or what?
In detail:
I activate data connection. The phone shows 3G before, and quickly goes in H (HDSPA). Then I use many apps that needs internet connection. Within a short time it goes again in 3G and i have absolutely NO data connections. After a delay of 5-10 sec it goes again in HDSPA and everything works. When it goes again in 3G i have no data, then again H and data working.
What's the problem?
EDIT: Problem solved! See in this post.
P.s.: Sorry for my bad english
I was going to ask about something similar to this, so rather than start a thread I will post it here. I too am running the 3.6.1 with its radio, S-OFF, & rooted.
What I am seeing on boot up is the standard progressive upgrades of data networks (just bars, then 2G, then 3G, finally H). The H only stays for a few seconds then drops to 3G and basically stays like that. However, as soon as I open an internet requiring application, it jumps to show H and typically stays that way as long as a data connection is active. My Speed Test results show its 4G speeds (same as stock ROM and radio) when its showing the H, so obviously its working, I'm just wondering if its intentional that the display only shows 3G? Or maybe its set so the ROM "relaxes" on 3G, but switches to 4G when data is actually being sent/received?
~T.J.
Maybe you used to have a 'background' app updating constantly.
The G, 3G and H usually depends on the signal in your area, the H is usually for high data transfer. If you're not using the internet, downloading anything or updating anything on your phone, then why would you need it on all the time?
3g is usually the norm, so I wouldn't worry!
For my issue, my stock ROM showed me what was available in the areas as I moved around, including showing 4G all the time if I was in a coverage area (which pretty much everywhere around me is). If I moved out of the 4G area for instance, it would drop to show me 3G.
This one just shows 3G all the time, even when I'm in areas I KNOW are 4G; UNTIL I use the data connection, then it switches and shows the H. I know its silly, but I liked actually gauging my providers service by being able to see what kinds of connections were available in various areas.
The fact I have to actually open the browser or run a speed test to see if 4G (H in this case) is available in that area is a little odd to me, why doesn't it just show the connection that's available?
~T.J.
Guys, I found a solution to my problem, googling around. That's awesome.
FYI I'll post here:
1. dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Go to phone information
3. Toggle ciphering so it's off
4. Turn off radio
5. Turn on radio
6. Toggle ciphering back on
It seems to be working to me. An half hour without hiccups till now.
I have had this problem ever since my hd2 two years ago. I thought it was normal. I'm about to try the fix. If it fixes it you are a life saver.

Aww man same thing. Maybe its supposed to be like this.
Basically for me its for example on the xda app when ill refresh something it will always say processing as soon as the 3g symbol turns to h with both arrows on simutaneously.
Maybe that's how its supposed to be idk.

Only a brief temp fix? Are you sure?
I'm not having the same problem as before, now. I hope it remains still as it is.
Hey guys, I haven't done anything to my phone but all of the sudden, the data and phone signal basically quit working. I have a very hard time getting texts, phone calls etc to go though but it will eventually (usually takes a while or a few tries) and as far as data goes, I basically have no connectivity at all unless I'm on wifi. It says 3g or H every once in a while, but it's really slow and usually doesn't stay for long. I'm running CM9, and like I said before I didn't change anything that I'm aware of that would have caused this problem. It worked fine before, and it just stopped. Ideas? Thanks

have you called your provider? maybe its on their end.
I'm having the same exact problem... it shows my 3g it shows all my bars but instead of the bars being colored or the 3g be in color is gray. Also I cannot get back conectivity until I restart the phone. Does anybody have an idea what this is?
Are you on AT&T? I was not having any problems until a certain point in time, and I didn't change or do anything to incite them. I'm not even getting calls anymore, I'll just get all my texts in a wave every few hours. My data is useless, it won't stream, or load web pages, and my phone is frequently saying "Emergency calls only" when I'm sitting at my freaking house (which normally has full 3g and cell signal and is very fast)
This just started occuring with my 9020a on AT&T the first week of March. I switched SIM cards twice, spent about an hour on the phone with ATT, and sent the device back to Samsung who rolled back the software to 2.3.4 and the Radio to UKE1.
I still have the issue. Samsung says its not them. ATT does nothing. It;s liek the phone just stopped working, started dropped calls, missing calls, and the internet connection sucks. I have an iphone for work through ATT as well and have no issues with signal.
ANy help is appreciated.
Hmm
Make sure you have the right, most up to date settings for APN, and flash original radios. if it still doesn't work, make sure you have the i9020A, which has the at&t 3g antenna, not i9020T which has the T-Mobile antenna, vice versa.
Have you tried other radios for your device (make sure you flash the appropriate ones for your model)? Any signal info under Phone Information when dialing *#*#4636#*#*?

Sounds like you're having the exact same problem I am having. I switched sim cards, flashed different roms, etc and nothing. (although to be fair, after the new sim, things work better, but still not well) I'm about ready to pop my sim back in my craptivate and just go with that... or buy an iphone off of craigslist.

I am 100% sure I have the 9020a, but I don't know anything about APN and flashing radios. I have only ever flashed full roms before, so I wouldn't know where to look for the original radio.

I have not tried other radios. The signal info seems solid, sitting at my house, but the 3g is still horridly slow. It taked 15-30 seconds to load a webpage, even a pretty mundane one like google. Messages still come through in waves, and often won't send
About your APN, AT&T should provide you with the proper values to put in under Settings | Wireless & Network | More | Mobile Networks | Access Points Names.
If you are on ICS, they values should populate by themselves.
Can you try flashing other radios and see if you encounter the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
Make sure you backup your EFS folder (and all data for that matter).
I had similar problems, they were related to turning 3g on/off with a APN widget while the phone had little signal. As soon as started enabling and disabling 3g on the android options everything was back normal.

the data works most of the time now it's just retardedly slow. I can't stream music even on low quality, nor can I watch youtube without leaving it for 5 minutes to buffer, pages take forever to load, and I was downloading a 6 meg app and it took 20 minutes to download whenI was leaving the phone alone and not moving. I got really sick of trying to fix it and finally gave it to geeksquad to send in to get replaced. sigh.
So, I flashed TrickDroid 7 and everything seemed to work fine, except that I couldn't connect to wifi. No big deal, I figured there was some kind of fix for it, and I found it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32170653&postcount=2668
I tried it, and it worked, but my signal dropped by half and my data connection was 3 or 2g. I decided to go back to what I had, and now I have 1-0 bars of signal, 2g, and no wifi... Any way I can fix this without flashing back to stock?
I'm on hboot 1.06 by the way, thanks!

Hello,
What radio are you on? have you tried the newest radio and the zip file you mentioned.
Rsotbiemrptson
super frustrated right now. my att one x starting having issues out of nowhere today. all of a sudden i no longer had service, which i though may have been a strange rom issue.
clean flashed viper xl again, and it seemed to work for a bit, but no my phone/internet keeps coming in and out . works for like 10 seconds, then doesnt work for like 30 minutes.
(tried factory reset, and clean flashing a rom, as well as cleaning sim card and reinserting a few times)
(hoping that att is doing maintenance on the tower near me or something?
i have no clue what i can do to try to fix this? :crying:
Try going into settings- mobile data and changing it to gsm/wcdma. That may fix the issue until AT&T gets all of the lte bugs worked out.

This happened to me too. I was on CleanROM 6 R2. Tried to install a sense 5 theme. Something went wrong during the installation. Got stuck in the HTC white screen, and it rebooted itself a few time but always to the HTC white screen. I was able to go into recovery and do a restore (after a few times that I couldn't enter the recovery). After the restore I had problems with my signal. I tried to flash a new RIL (HTC ATT 3.18 (Thanks to liamstears!)(0.24p.32.09.06_10.130.32.34): http://d-h.st/Maq). Tried flashing another RIL (ATT 2.20 (0.19as.32.09.11_2_10.105.32.25): https://www.dropbox.com/s/4sbtbmw2ra...105.32.25L.zip RIL (flash separately): https://www.dropbox.com/s/4u7p8jgvk2650hl/2.20RIL.zip). It didn't help. I tried installing a new ROM (CM10.1) every thing was OK, however I keep losing my signal (x in the network). I tried flashing the RUU 1.85 (of course I relocked the bootloader etc.). Now I'm on stock 1.85, I have signal (sometimes even full) however from time to time I lose the signal completely. It usually happens when switching cell towers (downloaded GSM Signal Monitoring from the play store), and I can get stuck with no signal for hours. Tried to check in the Phone info (*#*#4636#*#* in the dialer) and changing the GSM/WCDMA/LTE to WCDMA only or WCDMA preferred, turning off and on the radio etc.
Don't know what to do that I haven't already done. Furthermore, I sometimes get stuck in a loop of the HTC white screen, and it boots over and over again to that screen (can do that for quite some time). Even after getting into the bootloader and selecting recovery, it sometimes doesn't enter the recovery. And even selecting shut down from bootloader and the phone is connected to the computer (for charging), it shuts down and after 2 min. it wakes up and get stuck in the HTC white screen loop all over again.
Before all that I never had a problem with the signal. I was on hboot 1.09 (I still am), and s-off. I don't remember when version I was however I remember that is had (0.17 something in it can't remember if with 'a' or not). I noticed that RUU 1.73 is (0.16) that's why I didn't want to flash it and went straight to 1.85 however I don't remember I had the at&t boot animation when I got the phone almost a year ago.
BTW, I live in Israel and my carrier is using 850 & 2100 MHz UMTS (the 2100 was a roaming one due to the fact it's a MVNO) and before that I was on another carrier that has 900 & 2100 MHz.
Please HELP! Having a phone without signal is like having a brick!
i apprecaite the feedback and help you guys offered.
looks like att was just doing maintenence or something in my area, because everything seems to be back to normal this morning...
my bad =)
just worried something got screwed up, and im one of those that uses my phone constantly.
