Does HTC have an apk that handles its updates? I know Samsung had sdm.apk. I want to delete it to avoid updates

Bump...
I wondered the same thing. I froze with TiBu Updater6.0.741111 but I'm still concerned. I can't wait until CM11 is available so I can sleep at night and not worry about some verizon crap being pushed to my phone while I sleep.
Any confirmations on how to disable OTA's?
theres a package com.htc.updater, could that be it?
Was wondering the same thing

Whenever I try to update I get a pop up that says "service unavailable"
Is there a way to update by putting the update file on my phone?
Thanks

Is this possible? Help!
Can't I download the zip of the update somewhere? I'm not to worried about small updates, I'm more concerened about whenever the jellybean update comes out.

All you have to do is flash a Rom with whatever update or features that you want.

I'm stock and didn't plan on rooting. I used to do all that with the original HTC EVO and it took up way too much of my time... so I was just wondering if there's a place where all the updates are in a zip format so I can apply any updates manually

Yes. People pull the downloaded ota and your can flash it in stock recovery. I have the lg7 update straight from Verizon if you want it. I think it only works on lf2. If your on lg1 I think you need a different one.
Edit: I'm going into work so I'm gonna post it for you just in case your welcome. This is not modified in any way whatsoever.

If you're stock and not rooted, you should be getting updates over the air from Verizon, you don't need to apply them manually.

I am not trying to be rude but did you read my original post? When I try to update OTA I get a popup saying "Service Unavailable" It's like my phone isn't connecting to Verizon's servers to get the OTA. So I need to apply them manually, unfortunately...if possible

Sorry, I missed that. As long as you aren't rooted and haven't otherwise messed with the phone at all, I'd go ahead and call Verizon and see what they can do. You should be getting updates OTA and if you are not through no fault of your own, it's their responsibility to fix it, especially with the huge security hole that was found in these phones recently.
I had a VW S3 that wasn't receiving the update for OTA and when I talked to the rep he said to use Kies. Kies does say that it will update your phone but I had a problem connecting it. The only way the app will update is if you have your phone connected through USB. I tried and tried and tried but I couldn't get the computer to see my phone in the Kies program to sync it. It would connect through WiFi real quick.

I downloaded kies but apparently my device does not support updating via kies
Give Samsung a call because on the website it does away that Kies will update your software over USB.

The day the JB OTA was released I deferred it. It then downloaded a couple of days later, which surprised me. I deferred the install and immediately rooted and unlocked. Then I ran Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. After noticing one continuous wakelock caused by SDM I froze it. I'm hoping all this blocks the OTA from installing itself. If not what else can I do?
Also where is the downloaded file so I can delete it? Thanks!

True ... plus if you download a custom rom most of em will get rid of that option all together so no worries ever again
Any idea where the OTA file that was downloaded is stored so I can delete it? Thanks again

Got the same thing just 5 minutes ago.. installed it.. anybody have a changelog?
Here's the full changelog from Samsung's site:
Android 4.3 OS upgrade
Samsung Galaxy Gear compatibility
Group Play 2.5
Samsung Apps
Knox
Drag and drop to uninstall or disable applications
Call reliability improvements
The new update is build number 1337UCUEMK2 – the last one was 1337UCUEMJ9. So Samsung had to change something, but the very short turnaround time indicates it wasn't anything major (some users reported keyboard issues on MJ9). The update is pretty hefty at 719MB if you're coming from the Android 4.2 software. There is also a patch from MJ9 to MK2 for people who got the last OTA that clocks in at just 28.07MB. Begin hammering the update button – no promises, though.

Any way to keep root and safestrap?

Those of us on MF3 who rooted cannot accept the OTA correct? WE would have to unroot first?
I can say this. It was no ordinary update even though coming from the mj9 one it was only 28.07mb's. It did something to the phone to finally take away the lag. I think Samsung finally got the phone working right. I'm pretty happy with my s4 now.

So I came from an rooted MF3 install, but I have done a factory reset to try and get the update. Even now, I can't seem to get a response from hitting the "Software Update" button. Does anyone have any suggestions? Confused as to why I can't get it to report to me...

You don't expect people to actually read before they post do you? I mean, it's only common sense and the XDA rules. Why would most of these people do something smart like that? 90% of the threads are from people that either didn't or can't read.

Me too. Even when I take a picture with the galaxy gear, they show almost instantly on my GS4 gallery.
Also, bluetooth is like "smart".
I was having problems connecting my cars bluetooth to my GS4 and at the same time to my gear and each device to know what I needed it for, and now they now somehow.

root?
Can we root if we updated to 4.3 mk2?
I still keep getting software update interrupted, going to have to use other means to upgrade I guess.

This new update seems to have fixed the messaging app, before it was all messed up on the first 4.3 update.
Also another thing that seems fixed is the developer options, I would turn off all animations but it wouldn't stick as they would turn back on on their own.

Ahh, well the mod I posted won't work for you then I'm sure you already know.
The system update thing seems to be normal. It is rather annoying but only happens on a reboot.
Now that we have root, anyone remember all the files we need to disable to prevent Verizon from pushing an OTA to the phone?
