[Q] HTC Desire 700-Camera Limitation to 3rd party camera apps - General Questions and Answers

Hi All,
This is my first post.
I purchased HTC-Desire-700-709d - Asia India version. The phone is absolutely brilliant especially after price slash down from MSRP.
The stock camera is doing fine, except for too much of noise reduction leading to some smudgy edges.
So i tried third party apps on Play store. To my surprise, the apps are able to access only 4MP out ot 8MP.
When I checked through Hardware info's, they are also showing only 4MP.
Is this a problem with the apps in accessing full camera spec, or any problem with the device. The stock camera app is doing fine with 8MP shots.
Could you please provide me with a solution on how to unlock this.
Also, when I tried to adjust size of the picture, the app crashes. This happened with all available camera apps on store.
Looking for a solution form the members.
Cheers
DroneJC.

Having some trouble with slow motion playback

Hello all,
I recently purchased an LG G4 from AT&T, and I am so far, extremely satisfied with it. Overall, it's a great phone, but obviously not without it's flaws. So far, one I've found is that I can't seem to get slow motion video to play back on my device. I've looked around on the interwebs, and found that playback only works in the default "Video" app, which doesn't seem to exist in my app drawer. I see it in the app list in settings, but sadly, not anywhere where it can be opened. On top of this, the default gallery app doesn't seem to play them either (not the google photos or gallery, this is the LG gallery). If anyone has some insight into this, or a potential fix, any help would be gladly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ivory

I apologize, I didn't do quite enough research before posting, and I've figured it out now. Deletion of this thread would be much appreciated.

Issue with Camera

Hello. I've just installed MM 6.0.1 by downloading the stock rom. As default, the Motorola Camera was the one in my phone, but I as usually do, I set de DPI to 270, so, the Motorla Camera doesn't work. The Google Camera doesn't show up at Google Play. I've installed the .apk but the first time I run it, it appears the tutorial and I have to swipe left to see the video feature. When I arrive at this point it shows me that "We can not establish connection with the camera" and it closes. I've tried to do the photo at the very beginning of the tutorial and it allows me to take photos and selfies, but it closes if I want to make a video. Any possible solution? THX!

This is a well-known issue which I had as well, although it was on a different device running marshmallow. No matter what I did, when I swiped to Video, it threw an error. There are several suggested fixes around for a similar problem, i.e. for devices which can't access the Google camera at all, not even for stills. It took me a while to find the solution that worked for my problem, and it was driving me nuts. The thing that worked for me was quite simple, tho - downgrade your Google camera app to a previous version. The latest version as of now is 3.2.045. The version that cleared up my problem was 2.7.008. A long time since, I've had not one issue with it The apk for 2.7.008 is easily found online. Obviously, tho, you will lose some very minor things when you downgrade, but very few.
By the way, why not consider another video app, even if that solution works for you? The Google camera one is good, but I've got a few I like a whole lot more, and each for different reasons and situations. My favorite is probably A Better Camera as a great all-rounder, or Camera360, which has a load of killer effects and tools. Camera Zoom FX and Camera FV-5 are really nice, too. Again, they are all easily found on apk sites. Load them up, have a play round, and keep what you want. It's a lot of fun, really
HTH :fingers-crossed:
Oh, and a side note... if anyone likes playing around with editing videos, Cyberlink's latest PowerDirector is muy nice, even on my Nexus 7. Full featured for a tablet app, and remarkably workable and fast.

third party camera apps

I read somewhere (not sure where) that third party camera apps can not use the full potential of the dual-camera. Only the stock app can do that - not quite sure but I rememeber something that it can't access the 20MP black&white sensor or something.
Is this correct?
I would say that most third-party software was coded with one sensor in mind. I don't own a Mate 9, but I do know a bit about combining two images in one (binning) and photography. They are highly specialized actions, that require specially made software.
Dual lens appears to be the trend. Might go to the play store, send an email to the camera FV-5 folks. They've always been fast to respond
to my questions. I'm not really "interested" in dual lens cameras on phones. I use it for quick snapshots of things I work on (electronics).
for everything else, I defer to my dSLR.

Wide Appreture editing app, besides stock gallery

So I have been thinking, in a few years, when everyone gets new phones, with new features. How are we going to edit the pictures taken with Wide Aperture mode (fake bokeh)? The only app able to change the depth of field of the picture is the stock gallery app by Huawei/honor that came with the phone.
Google photos DOES save the information to be edited later (but there is no way to edit them on Google photos app as far as I can tell).
So if a year later you restore photos to this phone and try to edit them, you can, but only with the stock gallery app.
Anyone here know of any 3rd party software on Windows desktop, and or on the web or android that can do this? So we don't have to be reliant on the Gallery app from Huawei in case we change phones later on.
Thanks.
You can't really change the aperture on phones as the aperture is fixed to f2 or bit more. What Google and Huawei and all the other do, is to approximate the behaviour by blurring the background in a postprocessing step. The better they detect foreground and background, the better this illusion works. But it's never a real bokeh.

I am well aware how this camera works, i am a part time photographer, This was not my question! my question was if there is an external source or app that allows us to edit these kinds of photos as the gallery app does, to refocus after we take the pics using the wide aperture mode.
I think that what Huawei does with their gallery app is a bit proprietary.

So basically after a few years if we want to edit these pictures it would either be impossible with another brand of phone, or might perhaps be possible if we keep buying huawei phones, with this feature, which is not a sure thing.
Yes I think so. But I didn't investigate on this topic. At least one can still open the Jpeg as the depth information is somewhat in it.
Unfortunately no third party apps that can do this.
Maybe if someone can port the gallery app, that will work!

Is there any decent external OTG camera app?

Hi, I bought one of those cheap USB endoscope cameras. In its manual they want me to download raw .apk from some shady source which I don't intend to do, but they also recommend some app from the Play store. I reckoned that any "external camera app" will do, but apparently not only none of them seem to work with my phone+camera combo, but also they're all extremely low quality. Most of those apps are actually the same app made by some guy that can't even write proper English and ensures me that he wishes me "good health" in the intro. The sad part is that the app crashes as soon as I connect the camera.
My question is: is there any decent app for such external cameras? I'd even prefer it to be payware - I don't want intrusive ads and paying is no problem, I just want something that works... I can't wrap my head around why I can't find any such app - I'd expect there would be tons of them, not the same ****ty one that doesn't work, repackaged 100 times... What am I missing?
My phone is OnePlus 7 Pro with Android 10 (Oxygen OS 10.0.10.GM21BA). Thanks!
