Volume buttons stop working after some time - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!
Today I have noticed a very strange thing.
After 300+ hours of uptime, the volume keys stopped working.
I couldn't turn the ringtone's volume up or down, however I could take a photo with the volume buttons using the camera and I could also take a screenshot of the homescreen, but I couldn't turn the volume up or down.
This also happened a few weeks ago, after about 200+ uptime...
After a reboot, everything works fine!
I am on FULL STOCK 4.4.2!
Is it a software related bug or a hardware?
Has anybody face this issue?

volume problem when watching vids

Before I updated yesterday all was working well. I updated to the latest official rom and now I have 2 problems. 1. The toolbar stays on the screen when watching a movie whereas before I updated it would disappear after a few seconds as it should.
2. The volume is screwed. Again it worked fine before I updated but now the volume stays on high no matter where I set it. When the volume is muted there is no sound but just 1 click up on the volume bar and it's at full blast. Moving it higher stays at the same level.
Any ideas?
I'd try doing a Factory Reset. It's helped clear up a few software quirks I've had.
I seem to recall someone else had this problem and they turned off and on and it worked. Not sure whether they did the 10 second hold.
Yeah the 10-12 second forced power off should fix the volume stuck issue.
That worked. Thanks all for the quick replies.

{Q} about volume

Is anyone else having issues with the notification or ringer volume turn down on its on. It does it to me a couple times a day it turns it down from 10 (being loudest) to a 3 (being super quit)
Late reply ,,, but yes, I'm not sure why the notification volume is sometimes reduced.

Home button keeps taking screenshots!!

This has been an off and on problem for a while now, but in the last few days its become constant. Pressing the home button now takes a screenshot, with the camera sound effect and all, 80% of the time. Leading to lots of strange looks when people around me hear the camera shutter sound.
I'm not convinced its a hardware problem.
Looks to me that your power button is stuck on most of the time.
is there any way to check or fix that?
And I dont think it is the power button, because when I reset the phone by pulling the batery out, it usually does the job of fixing it for a while. And surely if the power button was stuck in my phone would keep wanting to turn off.

Volume panel bug

Hi!
I have this bug with my OnePlus One. When I press volume up or down, the usual volume panel doesn't appear and requires a reboot to work again. This happens around two times a day. If I press both up and down buttons, I can turn the phone on vibrating mode and back to normal. Really annoys me to have to reboot phone to change volume level.
Anyone having this bug?

I'm having a similar problem with the sound. It doesn't make the beeping sound when I increase or decrease the volume, so it's difficult to know the volume level unless i'm on a call or open the settings. Also the haptic feedback has stopped working even though it's enabled. Still had the same problem after restarting.

Volume and power button are acting weird

Hi,
This problem occurred about a week ago.
When I hold my volume up or down a few seconds to adjust the volume, suddenly the volume bar maxes out or hit the bottom and gets stuck there.
If I try to adjust it on-screen (without the buttons) like when it gets stuck at the maximum volume it jumps to the maximum volume again. (Same thing goes for the opposite).
Now About the power button.
It just doesn't work sometimes. Like it won't turn on my phone or turn it on.
BTW I changed my ROM to AOSP extended for about 2 or 3 weeks ago but this problem just happened as I mentioned before a week ago.
What should I do to fix this?
Thx in advance!
Your buttons are probably broken, go see a technician..
