Hello all. I was just wondering if I could get any input or suggestions on my first repair for this phone. I know there is going to be a of adhesive and the screen is actually going to be attached to the LCD.
Any do's or don'ts?

If you are going the route of replacing the glass on top and not the digitizer, make sure you use a real heat gun (not a blow dryer) to heat up the adhesive and TAKE YOUR TIME. I tried to fix my daughter's screen. She had wrapped the ear buds around it and put it in her back pocket. There was like a bullet hole in the center and cracked all the way around outward from the center. I got all the way to the end, tried to remove the corner piece and I cracked the digitizer. I was tired and anxious to finish. Plenty of people are successful, so I would just say make sure you hear the glue up enough and take your time.

Has anyone seen a teardown video for the g2x or the o2x? I want to try to fix the screen bleeding issue on my own. I was able to get the back cover off, remove the camera and unplug the ribbons from the back circuit board but I couldnt see/figure out how to get the front cover to separate from the back. I thought I got all the screws. I just need to figure out how to remove the bezel/glass and I can tinker with trying to fix the screen bleed. I'm also sure I have to do something to remove the sdcard and sim connector but not sure what. lol If I could just get the bezel and glass off though I think I could play around with the lcd under it.. Anyone have any ideas?

Yep peel glue the LCD glue came up wayyy easier than the digitizer glass since I accidentally got a piece of something on my LCD I will be re taking it apart and doing a video

I haven't taken a g2x apart but on other phones I've repaired I always use a heat gun around the edges of the screen to soften the glue so it comes apart more easily.
I have a samsung infuse from AT&T and recently dropped my phone.
The glass is completely cracked; however, the touch screen is working like normal.
Is there a way to replace the cracked glass only?
If it is possible, does anyone have instructions or a guide on how to fix the cracked glass?
Or, would I just have to file a claim with AT&T Insurance?

Your most likely going to have to claim insurance on your phone from my research the glass is not replaceable !!!

I've looked around online, and everything I'm seeing says the digitizer, LCD, and outer glass are one fused together piece on the Infuse:

Even though eBay sellers have the Infuse outer glass for sale separately, it seems like pulling the glass off of the LCD/digitizer without destroying it is going to be extremely difficult. Even if you get the old glass off without damage, you still need to figure out how to attach the new glass to it.
Then what??????

This must be the instructions to remove outer screen because I have seen a video to replace the digitizer and screen assembly and it just popped off after removing some ribbon cables. I am waiting for outer screen ,outer casing and battery cover to arrive from China. Cost $30 with shipping. Will look brand new on outside if it works. I'll let you guys know how I make out.
Edit....After removing top glass with razor blade as it is fused to LCD with glue I lost response to touch. Ordered new LCD and digitizer with bezel (plastic frame that screen is attached to and circuit board mounts on) . I am not sure if I could get it to work if I could glue or fuse new top glass back on. Scratched the heck out of it anyways. Live and learn, if anyone else had better luck I would like to know.
I had great luck with mine. I started by heating the outer glass with a blow dryer and used a card from a regular deck of playing cards starting from top to bottom of the screen to get it started. After i got it about half way i didn't even use the blow dryer anymore just allot of playing cards. You have to be extremely careful on the top right of the LCD not to damage the ribbon for the digitzer. I got a few minor scratches on the LCD from shards of old glass but you can only see them if the screen is off and you look really hard. It pretty much looks brand new now. I just used thin double sided tape on the outside edges of the new glass for now as i haven't found a permanent way to hold down the glass yet. I will probably leave it that way so next time it breaks i don't have to go through the long process of separating the glass from the LCD again. In my opinion it was well worth the $10 and the labor to replace just the outer glass rather than the $130-$150 for the replacement LCD/digitizer and outer glass.

Can you make a guide of that? I think it will help alot of users. You can get pictures from internet and mark the critical points which will help in separation.

The screen on my Skyrocket became recently cracked. The cracks begin at the very top and make really small, tight cracks, then it spiderwebs down the front of the phone into bigger pieces of glass. Towards the top, the smaller pieces of glass have begun to fall out. It's not really dangerous, but I am kinda nervous of cutting my finger one of these times.
I've been searching on Google and Youtube to find an answer to my question, but I can't seem to find a real, definitive answer. I want to know if the glass/lens of the digitizer can be safely removed from the rest of the digitizer?
I know all the tricks of using a heat gun, and a little scraper, but I also heard that the digitizer itself is like 1mm thick and VERY delicate?
So I went ahead and bought the glass off of Ebay for like $7. Then I received the glass in the mail, and got kinda apprehensive of doing it.
Another question: If I successfully remove all the old glass, how do I secure the new lens to the digitizer? Is there some sort of glue I need, or is it friction from the chrome trim ring?

Good luck man.....i tried and its a PITA!!!! Haha my dumbass ended up cracking my digitizer/LCD so i had to shell out another $130 for a new one......i hope u have better luck than me tho.....

That's EXACTLY what I'm worried about. But I guess my screen is done for either way. It's terribly cracked and falling apart now, so it can't get much worse.

In the accessories section a guy claims to have done it and used double sided tape to put the glass back on......idk tho i heated it up so much i burned my finger wen i touched the glass and i still couldn't separate it from the digitizer.....id say just buy a new digitizer......it isnt hard to replace.....i bought the digitizer alone without the housing around it and saved about $25.....

Nope. It didn't work. I broke it. I kept using my heatgun, but the stupid adhesive just wouldn't give up. I turned up the heat a little bit, and suddenly a section of the digitizer just blew up into a dull green color. I guess that means I fried the pixels. Even after I burned the digitizer, the adhesive was still very strong. I think this is actually impossible. In order to loosen the adhesive, you would have to achieve a temperature far past the point of damaging the digitizer.
Another concept:
I had MANY small pieces of glass. I kept thinking "I wish I had nice, big pieces of glass. Then this would go so much faster". When I did try to lift a larger chunk of glass, the combined tension of the adhesive over the whole surface area caused the piece of glass to flex and crack.
So when you try to remove a large piece of glass, it then breaks into a hundred tiny pieces of glass and you're screwed even more.

yes i asked that very question , the counterparts are okay didn't have a problem with them.
but buy them with front casing , it's hard to glue them back together , sometimes they don't fit completely due to the residue you probably missed on the front casing some parts of it become higher than the other parts which really bothered me.
If you're going to buy it glass only , be really careful.
Counterparts are not so scratch resistant as the originals.
One wrong move with the razor blade and it's scratched for good.
You would need a heatgun or blowdryer. I used blowdryer.
After heat treatment the original digitizer stops working for some reason.
So you're stuck with the replacement.
Don't ever remove the front screen protector layer before finishing up the work.
If you don't have double sided tape then use a flexible adhesive like shoe glue but i highly recommend double sided tape. I didn't have beautiful results with shoe glue... It bonded allright but i screwed up the casing with the excess glue i tried to remove.
Also , dust is a real problem. Everytime i did it there was some dust in it. I hated it.
You need an air compressor pistol to work it out.
Blowdryer always leaves some in.
And there's the issue of 4 capacitive keys and their backlight.
If you kill the ribbon that's blocking the light out of the screen , the screen is going to be lit up like christmas and you won't be able to see anything.
If you kill that tape , be sure to replace it with a reflective tape.
Take it from someone who knows , don't lose the crystal things that focus the light to the keys. Otherwise you won't be able to even look at the screen. those leds are really bright...
All in all i did it , but wasn't satisfied with the results went to ebay and bought it with frame.
Now , i'm quite happy...

Though it's fairly simple with a frame.
Don't order them seperate.
Just don't apply force and you should be fine.
I just ordered a new screen to replace my cracked one. But everywhere they advice to by adhesive tape. I have search all the web and I have found multiples videos and guides in how to replace the screen, but nowhere they mentioned what is the adhesive tape for. Can anybody point htis out for me?
To secure the screen to the rest of the phone. You need it, double sided tape.

If you replace the screen make sure you have a heat gun, adhesive. And heat up the old one to release the cracked screen. I just replaced mine and if you can't salvage the adhesive or get some more(not 2sided tape! You need the right stuff. Black industrial adhesive, rsdioshack should have it) I didn't think it was that big of a deal and learned the hard way.
1. Heat up the sides of the front. That's where HTC concreted the screen on. Greez stay patient, the digitizer is really on good.
2. Be careful not to tear the main ribbon under the battery. I did, its on good too.
3. Volume ribbon on the side. When you go to remove the casing make sure to get it out the way or its ripped off.
I've learned from my screw ups but now I'm a subject matter expert.
Not trying to be a know it all but I wish someone would have given me a heads up on certain issues with this phone. It's put together very good. I only buy HTC for this reason. Sucks when you have to take it apart though. Ha! Oh and get the tool kit, most screens for sale on eBay come with em free. Let me know if you have any concerns I can surely guide you in the right direction. Get the adhesive!
