I'm facing a problem with exporting all my contacts on my galaxy s4
I'm new at android and i have put all accounts connected to GS4 and i have contacts from gmail, facebook, skype, google+.
i have spent a lot of time merging all the contacts so i can have a clean contact list with only one contact per person.
My problem is that in gmail after finished merging i only have the contacts that i had before on gmail accout. Is there a way of exporting all contacts from my galaxy s4 (from all accounts) so i can then import them to gmail, outlook.com or yahoo.
I have been reading in the forum and the only thing i found is to backup the contacts with groups and merged/joined option, so if you want to change room i just have to load the backup, but i did no find nothing about exporting them to csv or vcf to import to other accounts
Best regards

So here is what I've done and tryed sofar to be able to sync my contacts with GMail account:
-Created a seperate Gmail account for contacts backup and sync only.
-exported the contacts on my phone to SD card into csv file and imported them to my GMail account.
-Because I learned Gmail will only sync with google contacts, I wiped the contacts from my phone and imported the same csv again from the SD card into my Gmail backup account on the phone that is setup to sync to that specific account for contacts only.
After that every time I make changes into my Gmail (like adding a postal address) and sync with my phone, the changes don't show on my phone.
I've tryed sync with the google exchange server also and the MyPhoneExplorer application also without luck.
Can anyone help me to resolve this issue?
Also I would like to know iff there's a way when you put a birthday into the contactsinfo to make it show up automaticly into your callendar and have a notification?
Grtz,
Jaybeam.
I am using fission 2.4.3 ROM and i like the way it looks and all but is there a way to edit the Facebook syncd contacts like the factory Global contact list settings? it says facebook contact information is no editable on this device... am i missing soemthing? before the root and rom i syncd my contacts and was able to add numbers, emails and drag them onto the home tabs for shortcuts..
Welcome to the CLOUD!
Doesn't seem like such a great idea now does it? LOL
Here is what you do, it will require having or making a Yahoo Mail account but it will solve your problem.
If you use Outlook (like I do) it will be way more complicated but only because you probably want to use Outlook as your master list.
Step One - Go to Yahoo mail and import your facebook contacts into your yahoo mail contacts. (they have a wizard that does this for you) Then export Yahoo Mail Contacts to a CSV file. (This will work for myspace and linkedIn as well!)
Step Two (Google) - Import that CSV file into Google contacts and have your phone sync if it doesn't automatically (sometimes it takes awhile to sync)
Step Three - Look in your phone contacts you will now see dupliacte contacts of all your facebook friends. One will be from Google and the other will be from facebook. Select the facebook contact and JOIN or LINK (depends on your rom) it to the other duplicate.
You will now be able to edit all the fields not filled in by Facebook and a have a single contact for that person. (If you look you will see in the contact which profiles are linked together. You will have one profile for each contact source that has been linked. (one for Google and one for Facebook)
If you have Fission running you need to go into EDIT contact before you will get the JOIN button in the menu.
I have found that it is best to do most of your editing in Google Mail and then syncing anything else (such as outlook) to that (I use Companion Link).
And while it is ok to add contacts into outlook and sync with Gmail it is better to check those contacts for correctness in Gmail.
If they are correct in Gmail they are correct on the phone. And should you ever have to factory wipe data you will be sure to get all your contacts back when you resign into GMail on your phone.
Hi,
I just recently switched from the iPhone to android (Galaxy S2) and there are certain things that are quite confusing, namely the accounts and sync section.
I understand how it works with gmail accounts and how it automatically updates any changes to contacts or mails. What I don't understand is how the other apps that have a sync option work. For example facebook. Now if I choose to sync facebook contacts, will my fb contacts be copied over to my gmail account that is tied to my Galaxy S2 or will it just allow my phone to access fb contacts and update them as and when I make changes to them on fb? What about app like Viber & WhatsApp, they too ask if I want to sync contacts but exactly happens if I choose to sync. Me main concern is that I don't want to mess up my gmail contacts and clutter it up with say fb or skype contacts.
I would be really grateful to anyone who could explain to me how this sync business works. I'm sorry if this is a very n00b question, but when comes to android, I am most certainly one.
Hello,
Is there any way backing up the merged contacts? I've tried HTC Sync, but its syncing only phone contacts with outlook, and not all the information.
OK, got it!
GO contacts - its free and has the ability to backup all the merged contacts into single vcf file, which can be used in the future. I also noticed that gmail offers contact import from vcf files and imported the file which Go contacts made. The export is perfect!
In my contacts, I have my google contacts, my Touchdown, my facebook, my google+ contacts. As you can assume, there are tons of duplicates from contacts with the same name that is in google, touchdown and facebook, sometimes google+. I set in contacts to ONLY show my google contacts, but still when I search, I see 3 of my friend name.
Its really annoying...I'm almost inclined to wipe the contacts database.
How do I clean it up? Also, for anyone that use Touchdown, how can I prevent the contacts to show up on the phone contacts in the future?
Thanks!
You could try to long click a contact, select join contact, and then find the duplicates to join.
