In my contacts, I have my google contacts, my Touchdown, my facebook, my google+ contacts. As you can assume, there are tons of duplicates from contacts with the same name that is in google, touchdown and facebook, sometimes google+. I set in contacts to ONLY show my google contacts, but still when I search, I see 3 of my friend name.
Its really annoying...I'm almost inclined to wipe the contacts database.
How do I clean it up? Also, for anyone that use Touchdown, how can I prevent the contacts to show up on the phone contacts in the future?

You could try to long click a contact, select join contact, and then find the duplicates to join.

I've tried so many things - adding them to a group. But new contacts won't sync from the phone to GMail. Only the other way around. Been searching all day for a solution.
Did you save the contact (on your phone) as a 'phone' contact or a 'Google' contact?
If it's saved as a phone contact is there a way to also sync it with your gmail account?
They're all google contacts but they're simply not syncing up with Gmail. They're stuck on my phone

Have you tried logging out of gmail on your computer and logging back in? Sometimes I've noticed that the new phone contacts don't show up on gmail until a fresh login.

Have you tried People->Groups->Menu->Sync Groups?
Make sure the proper groups are selected.
I don't have any groups in the group section and all I see is add group. Should I make a group or any other ideas?

This one is weird...
I have Facebook for Sense setup in the Accounts & Sync settings so that I could get the contacts to sync with the corresponding facebook profiles.
That worked perfectly. All is well there.
The weird thing is that when I go into phone, where it lists all of the contacts above the keypad, ALL of my facebook "friends" are listed even if I don't actually have them entered in my contacts.
So, contacts = just my contacts linked with facebook, but phone-app list = all of my contacts + all of my facebook "friends".
Is there a way to make this NOT happen? I only want my actual contacts (from google) to sync with facebook. I don't want all of my facebook "friends" to load to the phone.
I agree, this facebook sync is a good idea but needs more options.
froyo has more settings for things like this, you can select "don't sync", "sync only with contacts i have on my phone" or "sync all facebook friends", something to those effects anyways.
so wait for the OS to come, or root and flash a rom.
I am using fission 2.4.3 ROM and i like the way it looks and all but is there a way to edit the Facebook syncd contacts like the factory Global contact list settings? it says facebook contact information is no editable on this device... am i missing soemthing? before the root and rom i syncd my contacts and was able to add numbers, emails and drag them onto the home tabs for shortcuts..

Here is what you do, it will require having or making a Yahoo Mail account but it will solve your problem.
If you use Outlook (like I do) it will be way more complicated but only because you probably want to use Outlook as your master list.
Step One - Go to Yahoo mail and import your facebook contacts into your yahoo mail contacts. (they have a wizard that does this for you) Then export Yahoo Mail Contacts to a CSV file. (This will work for myspace and linkedIn as well!)
Step Two (Google) - Import that CSV file into Google contacts and have your phone sync if it doesn't automatically (sometimes it takes awhile to sync)
Step Three - Look in your phone contacts you will now see dupliacte contacts of all your facebook friends. One will be from Google and the other will be from facebook. Select the facebook contact and JOIN or LINK (depends on your rom) it to the other duplicate.
You will now be able to edit all the fields not filled in by Facebook and a have a single contact for that person. (If you look you will see in the contact which profiles are linked together. You will have one profile for each contact source that has been linked. (one for Google and one for Facebook)
If you have Fission running you need to go into EDIT contact before you will get the JOIN button in the menu.
I have found that it is best to do most of your editing in Google Mail and then syncing anything else (such as outlook) to that (I use Companion Link).
And while it is ok to add contacts into outlook and sync with Gmail it is better to check those contacts for correctness in Gmail.
If they are correct in Gmail they are correct on the phone. And should you ever have to factory wipe data you will be sure to get all your contacts back when you resign into GMail on your phone.
Everytime I reflash, I seem to loose the merged contacts between my phonebook with facebook/twitter/whatsapp etc. My blackberry back in the day stored the connection as an attirbute in the contact object such as; fb://profile/XXXXXXX. Any apps that can back up the contacts with their other app relations?
apart from the contacts, I could swear that the facebook birthdays would sync to my calender as well. I seemed to have lost it, was it a friendstream functionality? Thanks
I have my primary gmail contacts, touchdown, facebook, google+ contacts all showing up when I search in contacts, so annoying. I set to ONLY show my primary contacts, but when I search, all the others show up.
How can I clean it up again and ONLY have my primary gmail contacts?
