Hello,
Is the device rooted? Is it using custom recovery? Or is it fully stock??

If you're not able to go past the Google screen, Switch off the phone and then Press and Hold down the Power Button+vol down button till you feel a vibrate.. The bootloader will open... Use the volume buttons and navigate to Recovery and and then press the power button to go into the recovery... You can perform a factory reset from there...
But, if you aren't able to access the recovery and as you are fully stock, there isn't much you can do about it...
You could try unlocking the bootloader and then performing a factory flash but since it's fully stock you can RMA it...

Since you are on 100% stock, I think your emmc (flashchip) got faulty like in many other nexus 5 bootloop topic around in xda.
But you can try to reflash the factory images again. Read the first 3-4 sticky thread in the general forum.

Do what Mr Stunts says. If it's new and that doesn't work, and it should, take it back. You shouldn't need to be unlocking this and that just to get a new phone up and running.

[q] nexus 5 bricked in first 4 days sos

Alright i got 6 hours before tmbobile store opens and i can HOPEFULLY get an exchange, but not banking on it. btw im new to rooting so i wasnt familiar with the process, but regardless i have hard bricked my NEXUS 5. Title says the problem. I followed wwjoshdew's guide to rooting on youtube, and rooted successfully. But i could'nt for the life of me figure out how to create nandroid. I ended up realizing i didnt download cmw recovery mode and downloaded it from the play store. the app took me to a button that said flash recovery and i hit it and my phone asked for permission from unknown source, i hit ok and it shut down, on 70% battery life. Not turning on please help
Try to boot the phone into bootloader mode. Just hold volume down and the power button. From there try to cycle to recovery. You use your volume down to cycle through the options and power but as select. If you can boot into recovery and have that successfully installed then you can erase your phone and try to power it on from there. If you didn't successful install the custom recovery then you'll have the standard Android recovery. You can erase everything from that too.
These phones are hard to brick and not be able to fix it.

Doesn't turn on dude. No matter what. I am new to roms but i know what a hard brick is.
You should really read the guides and stickied threads at the top of these forums. The guides are very noob friendly and you wouldn't have bricked your phone. There's one to reset your device to stock as well. There's really no need for this thread and on top of that there is a sticky that says no questions in the General forums.

Determine your phone is actually off. Plug your phone into charge, if a battery sign appears in the middle of the screen then your phone is off.
If your phone is off, hold down the volume down button with the power button to start the bootloader, press volume down twice and press the power button to enter recovery.
If your screen remains black and doesn't show a battery logo, hold the volume up, volume down and power buttons at the same time for a minute, then let go and hold down the power button. Which should hopefully start your phone.

You bricked a Nexus?
Hold down Volume Down, Up, and Power to get into fastboot mode. Restore from Factory Image.
Normally, to root a nexus, I fastboot Team Win Recovery Project.
Anyways what you did simply could not HARD BRICK the phone.

Do you have a link to the kernel you flashed? I think you done bricked it good.
Were you using this method?

If yes,I think then all Nexus 5 users should be warned about CF's autoroot issues, because I see more and more topics related to this issue.

I don't believe the issues you're seeing, appears to be failed emmc, is related to chain fire's auto root. Cf is probably the most popular method to root and it's a coincidence. I've seen these failures with other root methods too.
I think the op flashed a kernel not for his device.

I am not a developer so bear with me. I'm just a guy in mpls with a completely stock N5 from Google Play that encountered similar issue as the original post. There was no damage or water issue, or other problem prior to going dead. It had about 50% battery and maybe 15 minutes after reading an email it was dead when I looked at it again. It just simply turned off while in my pocket. I could not get it to power on or enter bootloader or a recovery screen. After a week of trying to charge via USB and the original wall charger and countless attempts to hold power and volume buttons without success, I decided to pop the back off and disconnected the battery. I put it back together, but that made no difference either. Google play will send me a new phone, but I'd like to get it fired up and extract the last week or so of pics. Any ideas? Again, I am a complete noob and this 3 month old phone has not been modified in any way, other than auto updates from Google play. Thanks for any assistance or guidance.

Thanks - was just hoping it was not a hardware failure given the posts about difficulty bricking N5. Any chance if I bought a new battery that came charged it would fire up or replacing the motherboard an option?
p.s. I am not the original poster so not sure if I ticked someone off or not, sorry if I did. Just looking for assistance

I get the unknown device driver when hooked up USB to computer (QHSUSB_BULK). Think it is worth waiting a few weeks prior to returning it to see if there is a way to access the flash memory via a driver download? Searches for help showed similar unknown driver problem workable on samsung and HTC last year (QHSUSB_DLOAD)

No, you won't be able to. The memory doesn't mount like a sd card would. For the future use something like drop box or Google drive too backup your photos as you take them.

I need you to answer a few questions before anyone can help...
Do you have a custom recovery installed? (Eg. TWRP or CM?)
- If not, are you rooted?
- If you do, have u made a Backup through your custom recovery?
- If you're not rooted, do you have warranty?
- If you don't have warranty, how long have you had you're phone for, because Google provide warranty for a certain amount of time with your phone.
Basically, if you have a custom recovery installed or are not rooted with warranty, don't panic.
In not an advanced user but I know done stuff... And there's always a way!

This is probably why it crashed. Your phone doesn't have a launcher to boot into. That's the reason it is boot looping. As mentioned earlier, you'll have to flash the factory image.

That is the stock recovery. You can press both volume buttons at the same time, to show the recovery options.
Flashing the factory image is very easy. You put your phone in fastboot mode, plug it into your computer, and simple run the Flashall.bat (or .sh depending on your OS.)
Touchwiz Home in Samsung devices does not rely on google search. Our Nexus has a launcher that requires google search to run. Otherwise you can install AOSP launcher.

[Q] 4.4.3 update made phone unuseable

Hi. i have Nexus 5 sim free version. it was on 4.4 later upgraded to 4.4.1 followed by 4.4.2. till 4.4.2, it was great. a day before yesterday i received 4.4.3 OTA update and installed it. after installation,
1- phone started to hang a lot.
2- unless i push power button and re press it, phone remains hanged.
3- i tried flashing 4.4.2 but it stucks at boot loader screen as well and certainly i can't use power button to un freeze it.
4- phone starts well sometimes but there is no display but only colorful dots instead of screen, if i press and re press power button, start screen comes back.
plz help me to find a way so i can flash back some earlier android version.
thanks

OK but you Flash the images whilst in the bootloader mode. What does a frozen bootloader look like? What was the output error message when you used fastboot to flash the factory image?

i have unlocked bootloader after couple of tries because phone kept on freezing even in bootloader mode. but as soon as i put phone in bootloader mode, it freezes. everything was fine before 4.4.3 OTA update. phone shouldn't freeze in bootloader mode. i think that 4.4.3 update has also corrupted recovery.

it looks like that nothing is working, neither touch nor physical buttons. i can't change options with volume button. i.e. start, recovery, etc etc. u know what i mean. once in bootloader, one can change the options via volume buttons but i can't. on pressing the power button, phone restarts.

Boot to bootloader. Connect USB. Fastboot flash full factory images. If there is an error. Tell us what it is. If you cannot flash the full factory image, you'll need to send it for repair

Try and boot into your "backup" bootloader. You can get into this by holding Volume Down AND Volume Up AND Power. You'll notice it is different bootloader because the bootloader version is different from the one you get if you just hold volume down and power.
Maybe that will work?

Phone doesn't turn on anymore (Flashed wrong ROM)

Hey I've got a huge problem.
I think I just accidently flashed a ROM for a different phone and now the phone doesn't turn on anymore.
Is there anything I can do? Oh god I'm freaking out.
Thanks

Does it go into bootloader or recovery? If no try LG flashtool and if that doesn't work. You bricked it
I'm not sure if I did that right. I installed the driver + the Tool .. hold down volume up + plug cable in = nothing happens.
Can't boot into recovery either. Nothing happens.
Oh man I'm an Idiot
Is there any way to get to the data? Even if it's opening the device?

You need it to power up to get the data

Hold down power + vol down button for about 30 seconds and see if the bootloader shows up? if not, you can try accessing the secondary bootloader by holding Power + Vol Up and Down simultaneously..

How can I .zip completely broke the recovery etc.? Isn't that supposed to be "unbreakable"? I did this mistake on another phone before (You would think I learned...) and I was able to unbrick it. But on a nexus it is impossible? :/

Flashing stuff meant for other devices can brick your device permanently due to partitioning being different. You'll have to RMA, sorry. What ROM did you flash?

1. Other phones have kernels with different voltages that can fry the insides.
2. Other phones use different partition numbers. The script may flash flash a kernel to the bootloader - bye bye phone
3. a brick is a brick. You cannot unbrick. If you "unbricked" something, then it wasn't bricked.

Oh okay. Do you think RMA is possible when it's my fault?
This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/rom-stock-rooted-4-4-4-xnph30o-t2845100
You can send it to LG. RMA to Google is not possible.

Not possible because the warranty doesn't cover user error.

This. When they find out its your fault, they charge you for a new phone. If you send to LG they will hopefully just quote you for repair of existing phone.

I had something similar...
keep your phone plugged....but use its charger, no other version...and keep press power for 60/90 seconds...
Hm I tried but it doesn't work.
Do they even test the phones? I did an RMA once and they said if they see a broken display or anthing they let me know and send it back to me + I send the new phone back to them again. Would they really charge me?

The answer to both those questions is; why wouldn't they?

Here's the deal. RMA to Google is for manufacturing defects ONLY. When you RMA, Google freeze the cost of the phone in your account. When they find out its not a defect, they will take that money. Sending a phone to Google, knowing its your fault, hoping to get it replaced for free is fraud.
Sending to LG shows you are willing to pay for the repair. LG will repair manufacturing defect for free. They should charge you to repair user error. Sending a phone to LG, knowing its your fault, hoping to get it repaired for free is fraud.
Here is my advice. Send it to LG. Tell them what you did. Ask them for a price to repair.

There is no reason not to but maybe it's just not what they usually do

Just send it to LG, and tell tgem what you did. You bricked it so you need to take responsibilty for it
I read a lot of horrible storys about LG's RMA :|
It's not my phone by the way. I think I will try an RMA and buy a new one at the same time ... does anyone know what that could cost me?

[Q] XT925 Bricked after FDR

Hi all,
Did a factory data reset with a rooted, bootloader unlocked XT925 on stock jb and now its bricked. I can't access recovery, and when I do the simulated battery pull by pressing both volume keys and power button, it shows the moto dual core screen, before going to the android with the blue bar underneath usually seen while updating for about 30 seconds before briefly flashing the android on its side with the red triangular warning sign above it, then it powers off.
Is there anything I can do to save it? I had modified the start up animation which I think may be causing it. It won't even show up when plugged into my computer.
Thanks
Hi there :
At this point, can you get your xt925 on fastboot mode by pressing volume up and power while it is off? if so, you can just go ahead and flash a 4.1.2 rom. Since your BL is unlocked you can download one from any region that suits you.

i have seen an unusual trend of hard bricks coming from fdr's recently. i cant begin to explain it, or offer a fix for it.
unfortunately from what you have described, your phone seems to be gone.
i can only suggest that anyone having issues with there phone, that they think a fdr would fix, dont do it!! re-flash with rsd instead until we determine what is causing this.
i know its not wide spread, but i wouldnt risk it just the same.

Nope fastboot is inaccessible. Oh well! Sad this happened just before I updated to the loooong awaited KK build as well. Luckily I found a Sony Xperia Z1 for a great price so off to new things (and new subsection of XDA).
Thanks for the replies everyone!
on the other hand Xperia is a good unit
