[Q] How come certain apps won't connect to the internet? - General Questions and Answers

Hello. I have a LG Optimus Extreme (LG L40G) and certain apps refused to connect to the internet. It doesn't matter whether I'm using Wi-Fi or my data connection-- some apps just won't connect.
The apps that do connect to the internet without any problems are: the default browser, Gmail app (default), Google+ app (default), Maps (default), Messaging (default), Play Music (default), Google Search (default) and some other default or system applications.
The applications that connect to the internet 65% of the time are Play Store and YouTube. Sometimes I have to keep hitting retry to make these two apps connect to the internet. Doesn’t matter if I am using Wi-Fi or a data connection. They do the same thing either way. While I'm downloading an app from the Play Store, the connection might get cut and it'll keep trying to reconnect until it does.
And the apps that absolutely refuse to connect to the internet are: Fox News, CNN, SoundHound, eBay, Flixter, PayPal, Progressive, TruTV, etc. Pretty much any app that has been installed refuses to connect.
What I want to know is why? What is the problem? Is there any way to fix it?

Android : Apps not connecting via Wifi

Hi All,
I am a first time Android user (Galaxy S II),switched over from Symbian.
The apps on my phone which require data connection such as Gtalk, Gmail , Android Market, etc are not able to connect via Wifi.
But the stock phone browser works fine on wifi, no problems over there,I am able to surf the web. But when it comes to apps, they do not connect/sync over wifi.
If I disable wifi and use GPRS, apps connect to the internet, and sync in the background. But as soon as I enable wifi apps stop syncing / connectingot he internet.
GPRS plans are expensive and slow compared to my wifi. I want to use wifi to connect the apps also.
How do I do that, is there a setting which I need to enable.
I have to use a proxy server to connect to the wifi netwok, is that the reason the apps are not working. If yes, what is the solution, please help ??????
i have never had this happen but recently my wifi has stopped working all together it just keeps scanning constantly
I had the same problem as the OP. Fixed by setting my time and date manually.

This *could* very plausibly be the problem.
I know on iPhones, our university's network requires proxy settings. You put in proxy settings centrally, but only some software like safari will work. Most apps jus don't realize they need to go through the proxy.
I'd imagine it'd be more or less the same for android apps.
Have you tried to connect with static IP?
setup the correct time and date and time zone. I noticed that my mod got wrong the cities/GMT by +1h.

Market on mobile

I've searched, and all I found was the trick to *#*#4636#*#* then cypher off, radio off, radio on, cypher on
... which doesn't work.
Here's my issue: The market works.
I mean, it only works on Wifi. If I turn off wifi, or head to a location without wifi, and I try to access the market it gives a data connection error - same with other apps. I have no idea why, but only certain ones are affected.
For example, on 3G/4G, I can get onto the Internet using the standard web browser, or browse, google+, facebook, twitter, etc, all just fine, quick as ever. but try to open the Market and it times out waiting for a response? try again on Wifi, and it takes no time at all to pop up.
Here's where it gets really weird. I've noticed that HTTPS causes a lot of slowdowns on my APN, I noticed it with my previous cellphones, going to HTTPS sites, and it's an order of magnitude slower, which, if the Market (and others) are using SSL, could cause the issue, especially if their timeout is shorter than the browser - but the weird thing is, Twitter is setup to use HTTPS always, and it does not seem to take very long to get updates from the server when refreshing my feed.
I'm confused. I just want the Market to work whenever I need it to.
Any ideas?

Nexus 5 Issues with YouTube, Play Store, Hangouts, & Drive While Using Cellular Data

Nexus 5 Issues with YouTube, Play Store, Hangouts, & Drive While Using Cellular Data
Hello All, I bought a Nexus 5 while on a recent trip to the States (I work in Nigeria but spend a lot of time in the States) and I was able to use it with no issues for the 2+ weeks I was there, regardless of whether I was on LTE or WiFi. Since I returned to Nigeria and popped in my local SIM card (Etisalat) I've noticed that YouTube and the Play Store have perpetual connection issues while on HSPA+. YouTube is extremely slow and often fails to connect but if I hit the retry button enough times I am able to browse and watch videos, albeit after enduring a ton of frustration.
On the other hand, the Play Store is essentially non-responsive: the loading circle is all I see when opening the app, and spamming the retry button does nothing unlike with the YouTube app; every app I try to install from the Web Play Store fails, using Chrome on the device or on my laptop; I get update notifications and can't act on them; etc.
I've popped the same SIM onto my HTC One Dev Edition and none of these issues occur, in fact the data connection seems snappier. When tethering my N5 to my One or using the N5 on wifi the issues also disappear. I am able to download/update apps from the Web or Play Store app, and watch YouTube videos with no issues.
I called Google Play customer support and the rep told me I needed to update my physical address to reflect my current location despite the fact that the cards tied to the account are based in the US and I've never had these issues using my One, Nexus 4, Note II, or any of the other Android devices I've owned over the past 2+ years. I'm hoping someone out there has a solution because my N5 enthusiasm is fading fast. Any helpful info will be greatly appreciated!
PS - I also noticed that Hangout messages are sent/received much faster over wifi than HSPA+. Also Drive documents can't be saved over HSPA+ because I get the "offline: not connected to the internet" message even though the status bar and quick settings menu show that I am connected to the Internet and Google services (cell data quick settings tell is white, not orange). I have tried wiping data/cache in the offending apps (after Force-stopping the apps), to no avail. I have also toggled the network mode between LTE/3G/2G and the issues were not resolved.

[Q] Google Apps on VPN!!!

Hello anyone... I would like to know if theres a way to work this out.
My Monthly data Plan on my Network service is limited and if based on Normal Android usage(Watching Youtube, All app Syncing, Updating apps), it would not last 2 weeks. But on my PC, i use a Data Network which i power using a VPN Software (PD Proxy) which is unlimited! I can do whatever i want without fear of running out of Data. I have installed a WiFi Hotspot Program (Connectify)
I want to Manage my 3G Data by connecting to my PC Network when at home. So i can save more of my Mobile Data since i can use the Network on my PC (Mostly to Download/Install Apps from Playstore) But i notice when i get connected on the WiFi... Almost all except GOOGLE APPS (Playstore, Gmail, Youtube, etc) would not work.
Now, Is there any settings to do on my PC/Phone so i could use ALL the apps on my phone while on the PC VPN Network?
Thanks.

Galaxy S6 Suddenly Unable to Download From Play Store and Unable to Sync Contacts

Testing and Troubleshooting
>Cleared Play Store Cache and Data - Yes

>Factory Reset Phone - Yes
>Factory Reset Home Router - Yes

>Tested on both band networks, and tried with each one disabled
>Used both Google DNS (8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4) and ISP DNS
>Disabled any adblocking services I had (PiHole)
>Notes
>Play Store works on Mobile Network
>Play Store and Sync works on other WIFIs (Both Home WIFIs and Mobile Hotspots)
>Play Store and Sync works on Home WIFI (Problem WIFI) when connected to PIA VPN
>Play Store and Sync works for 3 other Android Devices on the Same WIFI network
>Play Store Search function works
>Also note: It appears the downloads DO in fact download, but it sits on Downloading for a long time. And it doesnst change to show download Speed or Progress, however I haven't seen this as I havent stared at the phone for the entire time watching
Home Network
>VDSL @50mbps
>Download speed is around 4 Megabytes to 5 Megabytes per second.
>Using both 5ghz and 2.4ghz on Router (Set to appropriate region)
Now, heres the story. We have Wifi on our Home router, like most routers, and this Wifi worked with all my Android devices (including the problem device) for the last few months.
A few weeks ago the Galaxy stopped being able to Update or Download apps from the Play Store. (Not entirely correct, it seems to still download some apps, however this takes upwards of 10-15 minutes just for a small (10-20mb app)
Following the usual troubleshooting, I have tried everything listed above.
3 other Android devices work without issue. I have factory reset my router again today. And yet it still doesnt work.
Normally I'd assume a router issue, but its strange that all other android devices can download without issue.
However assuming a phone issue, a Factory Reset should correct that too.
So, are there any DNS/ARP files that aren't changed? Or am I looking in the wrong place? Any help would really be appreciated.
Im at a roadblock here.
