Hi All,
I am a first time Android user (Galaxy S II),switched over from Symbian.
The apps on my phone which require data connection such as Gtalk, Gmail , Android Market, etc are not able to connect via Wifi.
But the stock phone browser works fine on wifi, no problems over there,I am able to surf the web. But when it comes to apps, they do not connect/sync over wifi.
If I disable wifi and use GPRS, apps connect to the internet, and sync in the background. But as soon as I enable wifi apps stop syncing / connectingot he internet.
GPRS plans are expensive and slow compared to my wifi. I want to use wifi to connect the apps also.
How do I do that, is there a setting which I need to enable.
I have to use a proxy server to connect to the wifi netwok, is that the reason the apps are not working. If yes, what is the solution, please help ??????
i have never had this happen but recently my wifi has stopped working all together it just keeps scanning constantly
I had the same problem as the OP. Fixed by setting my time and date manually.

This *could* very plausibly be the problem.
I know on iPhones, our university's network requires proxy settings. You put in proxy settings centrally, but only some software like safari will work. Most apps jus don't realize they need to go through the proxy.
I'd imagine it'd be more or less the same for android apps.
Have you tried to connect with static IP?
setup the correct time and date and time zone. I noticed that my mod got wrong the cities/GMT by +1h.

When I use 3G/GPRS on my HD7 and Omnia7, I often experience DNS timeout when browsing or access application that requires internet connection (Marketplace, youtube, search, etc).
I tought the issue is coming from mobile operator, but when I move my SIM card to other phone (I use Nokia E63 and Blackberry 9300) and also to my 3G modem, I didn't experience the issue.
Workaround solution for me this time is to disconnect 3G then reconnect (use Airplane mode ON/OFF) or refresh the browser many times until I can access website.
Any other collagues here experience the same issue? if yes, any fix solution for this? This issue not happen when I use Wifi, only when I use 3G/GPRS.
1 more thing, how can I change DNS server on WP7?
Thanks in advance.

You can't change the DNS server entry without editing the registry. Which would only be possible on an unlocked device. Did you download the update for HTC connection setup and start it afterwards? If not, you should. This could possibly resolve your issue.

I have downloaded and run it, but no luck. still have the same issue
Solved!! see last post
I've been trying to figure this out for sometime now....with no luck.
When...and only when I'm on my works Wifi connection, certain apps won't automatically sync (I can still manually hit refresh and sync them). This goes for gmail, google talk for sure but probably others as well.
My apps all automatically sync just fine when on my Wifi at home, or on 4g, 3g, and 1x.
So what's the deal with my works wifi? (I'm the IT guy here so any changes that might need to be made on the Firewall or Access Point I can make if needed)
We have a 5510 ASA Cisco Firewall and I'm connecting to a Linksys WAP54G access point.
thanks,
Are you manually refreshing from the apps themselves or from the acct and sync tab in the settings? My dad wasnt getting anything and when i looked he somehow turned off the global sync

Either one will make them refresh. But they won't sync automatically. If I turn off wifi at work....within a minute everything syncs up. It's only wifi at the office other wise everything syncs with no issue.
So its not that i have any settings for sync turned off or not check marked. Every other wifi i connect to syncs.....its Only the wifi at the office.
It doesn't matter which Rom I run either. aosp or tw. They are all the same.
SOLVED!!
I've been researching this for awhile and finally stumbled upon the answer.
If the problem persists only on WiFi, ensure firewalls aren’t blocking access to ports required for Google Talk and Google Play (TCP and UDP 5228).
I logged into our firewall and opened those two ports and now I'm syncing on wifi as desired.
Apps not working when connected to WiFi.....apps background sync doesn't work when connected to WiFi......please help me....I am using stock android
Probably an issue with your WiFi. Can you open a browser? Does it work?
Browsing works....but the background sync doesn't work

Hello, I have recently started having the same issues with my F6 not being able to load any background data as well. I believe your solution can lye within the apps that are being used. I Use a stock ROM too for my phone as there are no others out yet for it, and so, I also use ROM toolbox. This morning i could not for the life of me remember what i was doing to make the phone function this way, but remembered that i was dabbling with the DNS and server operations on ROM toolbox the night prier. I was a bit frustrated that there was no easy answer posted anywhere online (google) and had to figure it out myself.. (not so bad) . and since i have been constantly figuring out my ROMS abilities on STOCK I have acquired much knowledge for the F6 root and recover operations. IF you are having problems with any data being transmitted between apps and have been disabling ads through ROM toolbox be sure to make the right changes. For when you wake up to having no data app connection and your clearly connected to the internet it can become jarring.
hope this helps
Hello anyone... I would like to know if theres a way to work this out.
My Monthly data Plan on my Network service is limited and if based on Normal Android usage(Watching Youtube, All app Syncing, Updating apps), it would not last 2 weeks. But on my PC, i use a Data Network which i power using a VPN Software (PD Proxy) which is unlimited! I can do whatever i want without fear of running out of Data. I have installed a WiFi Hotspot Program (Connectify)
I want to Manage my 3G Data by connecting to my PC Network when at home. So i can save more of my Mobile Data since i can use the Network on my PC (Mostly to Download/Install Apps from Playstore) But i notice when i get connected on the WiFi... Almost all except GOOGLE APPS (Playstore, Gmail, Youtube, etc) would not work.
Now, Is there any settings to do on my PC/Phone so i could use ALL the apps on my phone while on the PC VPN Network?
Thanks.
Hello,
I have a "problem" with wifi/3G usage at same time:
Generally Android uses wifi OR 3G, at least as I know and as it worked on ROMs <CM12. When I come home and login to my wifi, I see that some apps are using 3G while wifi is connected. If I then disable 3G and reactivate it, my phone stops using 3G. This happens only in my home wifi. I assume that there's a "problem" with my network config. I'm using a firewall with web proxy, everything is blocked so all devices are forced to connect to web via 8080. Proxy ist configured in the wifi settings. However there are plenty of apps that are not interested in using this proxy - it seems Android decides then to use 3G.
Could it be like that: CM12 connects to my wifi and discovers that all ports are blocked except 8080. All Apps trying to connect directly to the internet can't do that and CM12 directs them to 3G?
In Samsung Settings you are able to set an option to allow the usage of both networks, if wifi is poor. But in CM 12 I can't find such option. How can I disable that?
---
One more thing: I use very often system profiles but always have to go to settings to change the profile. Is there a way to configure the action bar buttons like in CM11?
TIA
Hello again, I'll give it another try. No one noticed that with CM12?

I can't answer your specific question, but as a short term workaround, maybe try installing SmartWiFi Toggler, it has an option to force a disconnect mobile data when you're connected to Wifi.
