we have an idea for a very useful android/mobile application. this application would read a portion of live video captured from the camera. once the portion of the video is read/recognized, it would perform an action based on what it saw/read. does anyone have any direction on components available to pick apart the video? it would need to look for a shape / pattern in the video and extract it.

I would like to know if it would be possible to create an app that would overlay a GPS Speedometer over the video camera while the camera is recording video. So as you are recording a video from your window mounted N1 you can also see how fast you were traveling. I am attending a driving school at a local track in the near future and would like to record video of the laps and see the speed I'm traveling at different points on the track. I know there are free GPS apps available and obviously we can record video, but is there a way to combine the two in a kind of augmented reality app?
I would be grateful for any input. I know nothing of programming myself, but I'm willing to learn if someone can help me get started in the right direction.

Hey everyone. What a great site, and sorry if this isn't in the correct section, but I do need help with a program so here I am.
My idea or concept is to have a program that is not Java based that is Smart phone friendly (since iPhones aren't Java friendly) via a QR Code launch open a Panoramic 360 image. Via Gyro control, or finger mouse action in a seamless photo to see the hosted image. iTunes has a few capturing programs out there already, but unless you have purchased that program you can only view the image in a flat format. So what I am looking for is someone that can design a program that can take the flat images or captured 360, and stitch them together into a single 360 viewable image.

Haven't seen this mentioned here but having bought it wanted to recommend it.
It lets you capture what you see on your phone either to pictures or mpeg 4 video and I must admit to being impressed with it.
It needs root access but is the best screen capture video tool I have found and might be useful for people wanting to make app reviews or video tutorials as you can also record audio.
It managed a tough challenge of recording in high definition the sunset live wallpaper which has a lot of animation in it, and did so very well so hopefully this will help people who might be after a video capture tool

Why need an internal capture when Android OS already has a capture feature?
Because capture in Android OS simply interprets what is shown on the screen and saves it and I think the interpretation process is unnecessary because the data is already included in the video file. (I don't know much about video encoding/decoding, so if im wrong sorry for my ignorance on the subject) The resulting image is poor in quality and most importantly takes up TOO much space. If I capture the same scene on the same video by video playing programs (KMP, etc), I get better capture image small in size also(as much as 20 times smaller).
Another problem with Android capture is that ads (I don't know the free version still shows ads when tje video is paused) or soft-keys (although it can be hidden by the app) can be captured together.
And finally, capture is done not considering the size of the video. Android merely captures the screen as shown, the captured image's resolution is the same to the device's screen's resolution, which is a problem when playing videos with higher or lower resolutions or when the video's height-width ratio is different to that of the device's screen(4:3, 16:10, CinemaScope, etc).
So, I think it would be wonderful if you would consider including an internal capture feature in the app.
I think you're working on Frame-by-Frame feature, so I guess it can be related to that.(again, sorry if Im wrong)
Im always happily using MX Player for years and I appereciate your efforts. :laugh:

From your description it looks like you looking for trimming feature. There are many apps are available in Google Play which can trim the video without recoding. It will do the job as you are expecting.

Yes, I'm aware that there are lots of video trimming/frame break and capturing/editing apps available. But I was just thinking that it would be nicer to have a capturing (I believe it is different from trimming, since capturing is about extracting just one frame out of the video while trimming is extracting multiple continued frames and merging it) feature included in the MX Player so that I can easily watch a video and capture "a" frame without opening another app while watching a video. It is not a big and urgently needed feature, but it would make things more easier.
