Hi,
I saw that I could root my Verizon HTC One (M8) and wanted some help on what to do after I root it. What I want is to install the latest stock Kit Kat on it (basically like making it a Play Edition phone). I found a rooting guide using WeakSauce. Can someone point me in the right direction on what I should do after getting root? Is there like a single file download of Kit Kat I can get to install? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
(I have a Windows PC so if I need to build KitKat from source, I won't be able to do that).
You can't. We're months away from being able to do that all we have is root

Yes months. There is a long way from s-off to a stable copy of stock android for the Verizon HTC one.

Ummm proof of s off was posted yesterday. I doubt it will be months. Weeks if not days. With GPE versions existing it will not take long for other roms such as CM to show up.

You missed a key point. Making a pure GSM ROM work with Verizon will take some time. While it likely won't take long to get GPE running on a VZW M8, it will probably take some time to get the radio working properly.

Well, not everyone got the update since Samsung suspended the new update due the issue that the update has. So we hope the best to come.
Do you mind if I ask why did you update your phone?
There is some root methods as they have been talked about, although its questionable if they are truly malware or not. But many people on the VZW S4 side have used it including these cleanup tools to remove any traces of the supposedly malware side. So its upto you to decide if you want to use that method or not. That's about all we can say here on this as we cannot link to those methods right now as the moderation team is trying to evaluate if those root methods are malware or not.

Cause I'm the type of guy who wants stability... And if there's an update that will provide such stability, then I'm all for it. And aslo, despite all the post going around about it being almost impossible to root after taking the update, I just didn't believe it to be so. Oh, and also because I'm a bit of a risk - taker as well! ?

I also can confirm this. Worked fine for me too.
Just a side note, I have heard good luck from using SuperUser OTA Survival mode in MF3 then upgrading to MJ9.

Call AT&T (or visit their service center) and get your phone replaced (if under warranty). I told them what happened, and they switched mine without a problem. They said a lot of people have been switching their phones for the same reason.

I don't own the skyrocket but my mom does. She is having some issues with the ROM I flashed long ago so I figure now is a good time to upgrade. What do you suggest for stability and battery life? I don't care which version of android or cutting edge features but I do care about everything working all the time as I live several hours from her and just can't fix things for her at any time.
Let me know what you recommend and why. The more detail the merrier. Thanks!

That is surprising. That's either a compliment to the Samsung devs or an indictment of the ROMs available on xda. Looks like I will try mohan_kr's 4.1.2 UCMC1 AT&T official stock odexed unless someone has a better suggestion.

I believe what he's meaning is since you can't up and drive down the street to fix her device, you should stay as close to bone stock as possible. I keep my mom rooted with custom recovery only so I can back up the device data in case of hardware/software failure. But she is bone stock at&t 4.1.2, which was a huge leap of change from 2.3 for her. She is 16 hr drive from me.
My wife has this phone and I've found the easiest to transition into android has been MIUI ROM for her. Everything is pretty stable and has the general functionality needed.
Not the latest and greatest since it's on 4.1.2, but works well.

We'd either need a leaked version from Moto or a ported version from the Nexus line right? IF that's possible, I'd assume you could port over a dev release and get it now. Porting is beyond my skill level, though (since I have 0 skill) so I don't know if that'd even be possible.

I'm sure it's possible. It was done with my HTC M8, ported from the M9. If you don't want a custom ROM, then Moto should have an update ready around the same time as the Nexus phones, at least that's what happened last time (Moto even got lollipop before the Nexus 6).
That's one of the reasons I went with this device. Fast updates :good:
In one month after the Nexus release.
Custom roms should be quick in my opinion
