Native WiFi Tether Mysteriously stopped working yesterday - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am running stock android 4.4 on a Droid Maxx that was rooted on 4.2.2 prior to taking the 4.4 OTA (jcase method). I implemented the elegant native wifi tether enablement via the modified VZWEntitlementServices.apk. All was working well and I used the MobileHotspot many times under this configuration. Last week I unlocked my bootloader using the "China"/ebay method. After successfully unlocking and resetting up my phone, I reconfirmed working root, and tested to confirm that wifi tether still worked. (it did).
Then - yesterday, I attempted to launch the MobileHotSpot and after the "checking subscription status" toast message, instead of starting the hotspot, it displays an "Error" status within the app. I have tried wiping cache, rebooting, restoring the original VZWEntitlementServices.apk / .odex and re-implementing the native wifi tether solution. I also tried installing HotSpotLauncher.apk from a backup taken when my tether was working.
I am at a loss. Anyone else having this problem or had this happen to them? Any assistance would be appreciated. My next steps would be to install Xposed and try the wifitether module or perhaps try some of the tether apps available on the market - but those solutions seem less ideal than trying to figure out why this functionality was working last week and suddenly stopped working. Attaching a screenshot of the "error" condition.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Fixed!
I think I have found a solution and wanted to post if anyone runs into the same problem...
Per the below post I found, I deleted the \data\misc\wifi folder and rebooted my device. Once it booted back up, I was able to successfully start (and connect) to my Mobile HotSpot again.

[Q] rooting issues after 2.2.2 update

I have a Motorola Droid. It just updated to froyo 2.2.2 and I lost most of my root access. When I try z4root it says I am already rooted. When I try to use any apps that require su access it gives me an error message or it says partition can't be found. Is there any fixes?
I have the same problem... and have been working to try to fix for several days. If anyone can help it would be GREATLY appreciated!!
found a solution
USAFREEBIRD,
I found a solution. I uninstalled super one click and reinstalled version 1.7
Once opened, it ran and said my phone was rooted. When trying to use the wireless tether, it came back with a message that the phone was not rooted.
I turned the phone off, and upon relaunch wireless tether worked! My phone is back to root access! Good luck!
I tried that and it didn't work for me. Any suggestions?

[Q] Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus - Wi-Fi no longer working

I have a rooted GT-P6210 that was working perfectly fine and last night I updated Busy Box Free from Google Play. Busy Box Free reported an error with the install and shortly after I noticed that my Wi-Fi would no longer connect. It just reports "Error" after trying to connect to Wi-Fi.
I tried re-rooting my device but that didn't fix my Wi-Fi issues. I researched everywhere I could think of to unroot my device but all the threads seem to refer to guides that I don't see and firmware links that no longer work. I managed to find a copy of Odin3-v3.04 (not sure if that is the right version) but I still don't have instructions on how to do it nor do I have the firmware that I need.
I decided I would try going back to factory settings by powering off the device and booting into system recovery. I have done a wipe data/factory reset multiple times but Wi-Fi still doesn't work and I don't even know if that removed the root job I did.
When I plug my device into my PC and run Samsung Kies it reports that I have the latest firmware PDA:LA3 / CSC:LA3 (XAR)
So I am stuck and not sure what to do at this point. I have a pretty useless device that won't connect to Wi-Fi. I don't know if I wait around for ICS and install that if it will fix my problem.
Is there anyone that could help me restore my device to factory settings with actual guides, and provide working links to the firmware I would need?
Thanks for your help,
Bryson
I have an identical problem - albeit with a P6200 supplied by UK mobile network "3"
Busybox tried to update itself from 1.20.0 to 1.20.1 (using "Smart Install")
For whatever reason it failed. From then on, the Wifi wouldn't turn on - the button in the pop-up panel (can't remember what it's called!) going from grey to greyed-out green while trying to connect, and eventually giving up and dropping back to grey again - in control panel the Wifi section then just says "Error".
Also Tethering no longer works... clicking on "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot" gives me "Turning on..." in grey for 15-20 secs and then "Error"
I've not tried a factory wipe/reset or anything yet. Any suggestions?
Many thanks!
I have also had this issue with my Galaxy Tab 7 Plus (GT-P6210) since Monday evening.
When I noticed the problem I was going to try and restore a backup. During that process is when I noticed that I no longer had root access.
This morning I had a friend look at my device and he noticed that the 'Auto Update' was active. I thought I had that deactivated but apparently not. I’m wondering if an update was pushed out that destroyed root and as a result messed with the Wifi access. So far I haven’t gone any further than this.
Those of you having a similar issue, have you also lost root access? I wonder if re-rooting if that would solve the problem?

I started having the exact same issue two days ago, I've done countless factory resets and same deal, wifi comes up with error when trying to turn on.
I'm using an international p6200
PDA: P6200LUBKL1
Phone: P6200LUBKL1
CSC: P6200LUUBKL2
I've search everywhere for that firmware to try and do a re-install with Odin, but I cant find it.
Update: Just done a full factory reset, and still no Wifi.
Would a full firmware flash sort it? I've found the correct firmware for my UK "3" network P6200 here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517934
This is for flashing with Heimdall:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755265
... though I've never used Heimdall - or even flashed a ROM TBH - so a bit hesitant to give it a go......
Update 2:
Just flashed with stock firmware and Odin - all back to normal, Wifi working!!
After much searching around I was finally able to find the correct original firmware for my TAB:
P6200LUBKL1
I found it on a Chinese site: (I cant post links yet lol )
With Google translator, I was able to download the file and flash the TAB using Odin3, everything worked perfectly, and Wifi is working fine again!!
I also had this problem after trying to update busybox, only I also had a random SoD issue that had me constantly rebooting my device. The only thing that managed to fix it was to Odin back to stock. I'm reluctant to root it again, but at least the problem is gone...
If you open the zip that you use to root this device, you will see that it is basically a binary called su and one script that move it to your device and set permissions. If you want to remove the root, you only have to delete this single file,
In some devices is not as easy, what the script do on our update package must be done with exploits, but the result is the same: move su to some folder on PATH, and set permissions.
That is it, there is no chance to be root fault, seems like some problem with busybos. Actually people like to blame root a lot
The same exact thing has happened to me with my P6210. When I put the device to sleep, I usually turn off wifi. This time I forgot and when I woke it up yesterday evening, the BusyBox updater was open. It failed, of course, and now my wifi won't turn on. No MAC or IP address.
EDIT: Used Odin to return to stock. Rerooted (but did not install CWM) and then installed Superuser, updated su binary. Then installed Busybox Installer which then installed Busybox. Stayed away from Busybox, which seems to have been the source of the problem on my device.
my bad..
Just updated Busybox to version 1.20.1 myself using the smart updater without any issues. Got message it installed correctly and wifi still works even after rebooting.
edit: One difference between me and the op is that I didn't use Google Play to update Busybox I used the apps smart install through the app itself.
Model GT-P6210 with LA3 build.
Could someone try to uninstall busybox?
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
I tried to uninstall busy box still no wifi.
In recovery mode I tried to reinstall my previous load from the file I had on my SD Card. Again no luck.
I'm willing to do a wipe on mine and put the original firmware back on. Has anyone done this with P2610? I have been looking through the forums and I have seen a lot for the P2600 but not much for P2610.
Thanks
Kyazuh
Do you have root still? I can give you a copy of my /system/bin and /system/xbin. As you are about to flash it new i think it could worth the shot.

Yesterday after I flashed with the stock Rom, wifi was working fine, I rooted the tablet again installed busybox again and have not experienced wifi issues as of yet.
leodfs using RootChecker it showed that I did not have root access anymore.
isalas16 did you flash from the SD Card using the recovery mode? Or did you use a desktop program like Odin or Heimdall? Also do you have the name of the stock ROM file that you used?
I'm on the newb side of things here and I want to make sure I'm using the right process and files.
Thanks
Kyazuh
leodfs, could u send me theses files, I m with the same problem....my gt-p6210 (brazil)....no wifi, ill try fixit...

That did the trick for me. Uninstalling busybox and factory reset did not work. Flashed stock with Odin.

[Q] Sprint stock BOA6 LOLLIPOP tether

I was on 4.4.4 kit-kat and I was able to use tether. But now that I have updated to OTA lollipop I can not get tether to save my life. I've try many ways that I know and ones I saw in forums but nothing is working. I used wifi tether router app on 4.4.4 and was good but i can't get it to work now. My question is is anyone on the OTA update with tether working. I really don't want to go custom rom but if needed i will. I have root, busybox, supersu, and sqlite installer and editor. What am I missing. I never have issues with tinkering with phones but I'm at a stand still.

Did you try this? It worked for me.
I did. Thanks for the reply. I get the same results. The device will see the wifi then it says "connecting to wifi" then flip to "obtaining address" and just cycle between those two until it times out

This: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not.../app-one-click-hotspot-enabler-menus-t2816159
Install, Open, Press "Enable Native Hotspot". Reboot... Enjoy.
I have hotspot now but thanks. Im on M.O.A.R rom
Wifi Tether Router stopped working for me when I upgraded to 5.0. I spend hours emailing the developer and nothing could get it to work. I used the app in the native hotspot unlocker thread and it works great except that it causes a popup saying "enabling wifi will turn off hotspot" to appear every 30 seconds to 1 minute.

WiFi networks disappeared forever

My device is Galaxy S6 920F
WiFi networks stop showing up after a few days of Root, Rom, or Kernel. My S6 connects to the saved ones, but I have to add the new ones manually
And I experienced it with :
*Stock Rom + Adam kernel 2.3
*Stock Rom + UniKernel v8-0002 (both Odin and TWRP)
*XtreStoLite Deo-Mod 2.3
I'm on COH2
I tried to reflash the Kernels, but it didn't work. Clean dalvik/cache didn't work as well. Factory reset/Rom will solve it temporarily.
Help please
+1.
I have the same issue, not a big deal for me, but it's still a bug!
Good to know that I'm not alone. Although it's a big deal here because I've never been on the same WiFi for long.
Solved.
Its about (App Ops).
I reverted all the permissions to stock (allowed all), but I still didn't detect which permission behind the WiFi disappearance. Will be discovered soon.
I've been having the same exact problem... was having a version of it previously when i was rooted on 5.0.2 (couldn't find wifi networks, had to manually add them as if they were 'hidden')-- and now I have just flashed stock rom OH1, and rooted using UniKernel v8-0001 (both via Odin)
Now it seems that both
1. still no networks are 'available' (all appear hidden like before, and must be manually added, even if I know that there are many in the area), but also
2. all of the formerly remembered networks have been forgotten
I have a combination of security aps such as AppOpsX (AppOps 4.3/4.4), DisableService, AFWall+ (disabled) and LBE Security (I know, many)
Can't seem to find what to switch off to get things to reappear... I tried uninstalling the AppOpsX, and disabling the AFWall+, didn't work. I tried finding specific permissions to enable in the other programs too, and also failed....
Any follow up? Did you discover something more specific?
Anyone else have an idea? I thought google stored and sync'ed all my old wifi connections- but now I can't even seem to find where to re-sync them.
Thanks! (and sorry for being relative noob- happy to try to figure out logcats or whatever to provide more info)

Hot Spot Issue - Continued

Hello everyone sorry for this new thread and but I wanted to make sure I give more information on a fresh thread so I can hopefully fix this issue.
The issue I'm having is: When Hotspot is enabled on my Mate 8 Device, the 4G connection does not work on the device itself. However, anyone connected to the hotspot that I enabled has internet access via my Mate 8. Both cannot work simultaneously, only one or the other. This started 3 days ago.
What I did to perhaps cause the issue:
I rooted the factory ROM and changed something with the "Disable Service" app. I diabled the FusedLocation service. I rebooted then it was stuck on bootloop
I proceeded to wipe the phone on TWRP and installed a B180 ROM(Basic, stock international room - rooted) - Problem with Wifi Hotspot persists.
I thought it was the ROM's issue so I upgraded to B320 OEM ROM via 'dload' method - Problem Persists
Installed TWRP 3.0.2 and flashed another L29 B3xx ROM - Problem persists.
every time I installed a new ROM I wiped everything off the phone before I did so.
I'm absolutely stumped.
Please see the image i attached to my findings on my phone.
As you can see when Hot Spot is on, the 4G is "disconnected" and does not get an IP address.

Any help is greatly appreciated again. Thank you for your time!

Hi, I have the exact same issue, I am using a completely stock phone, with stock recovery and not rooted.
Have you found a fix to this problem?
Thanks.
