[Q]bootloop when going to new ROM - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi,
i wanted to flash a custom rom(SOKP). so first i did a factory reset, then i tried to flash the rom but it aborted. i wiped cache and tried to boot my phone up because i wanted to install a different zip(maybe something went wrong while downloading). now my phone does not boot any more. it stays in the PA bootanimation. my pc does not recognize the phone anymore. it can only go into fastboot mode and recovery mode. another factory reset doesn't work. what can i do now?
greets, jamie

It has successfully copied....reboot ur recovery and go to download folder and see if the file exists or not.
EDIT- I just checked ur screenshot again...it shows around 162 MB file but the file size should be around 300 MB
Download it again or flash the stock files to go back to stock

[Solved] wont boot after chainfire3d in JB. Fastboot- showing error

I tried installing chainfire3d driver in jellybean( i didnt know then that it is not for JB). Now my nexus wont boot into os. it just stays at the unlocked bootloader logo.
1. I can get into recovery mode
2. I have wiped out the cache and factory reset
3. I dont have a update file in my phone.since nexus dont have an external sd card i cant put any file in it directly.
4. I have tried fastboot -it shows my serial ID and i am able to reboot my phone using it but whenever i try to flash recovery.img or update update.zip it shows "cannot load recovery.img" or "cannot update update.zip"
5. I have tried ADB - on using adb shell it shows "error:device not found"
6. on using Odin (not sure whether it is compatible with Nexus s) it detects my phone. when i tried to flash the stock fireware it fails and my device shows "verify image (radio) fail"
Plz help.Is my phone bricked???????
Ok I don't want to be insulting, but you really REALLY need to read on the whole process of Nexus S rooting and using it.
You don't have to use ODIN at all for something so simple. You simply need to reflash a ROM/your ROM.
Mount your SD from within Clockworkmod recovery and transfer a ROM. Then flash it. Done.
What polo says go to recovery- mount and formay- all the way down "mount sd card". Now your phone will be like a usb drive

or ur best bet is to go to the store and say u got an update but it failed and that now its not turning on. Warranty will cover that

What did I do to my phone? Please help.

On a mac here. I think I got a bit over my head here with the 2.20 root. I did all of the bootloader unlocking successfully, installed TWRP, and then downloaded CM10, and flashed the boot.img.
Now when trying to boot the phone I get stock on the screen with "This Build is for development only."
I can get into recovery, but don't really know what to do from there. I'm trying to mount, but can't get the computer to recognize the device. Tried a factory reset and it failed. I'm not quite bricked, but sort of stuck and don't know what to do. I'd love to get CM10 working, but at least I want to be able to use my phone.
I'm pretty new to Android so sorry for newbishness.
Thanks anyone for your help.
Just to add, I'm getting the message "no OS installed" when trying to reboot in recovery.

Did you flash the boot.img first, then the ROM?
Can you wipe System?
Sorry, what's the difference betwwen boot.img and the rom itself? I only flashed boot.img. I did wipe the system.

The boot.img has the kernel in it. If you didn't flash the CM10.zip you have no operating system.
Wipe System, and Factory Reset
Flash boot.img
Flash the CM10.zip, flash google apps, and you should be good after that
Now flash the rom zip from recovery (twrp)
Sent from a slithery smooth phone!
So to flash the zip file for the ROM and gapps, I just enter fastboot flash boot 'rom.zip' or 'gapps.zip'?
Also, what do I do after I've flashed them?
Thanks so much for your help

No, do a clean wipe.
boot your phone into fastboot
download the fastboot files http://www.mediafire.com/?4dx982z93w8z7wk and extract them to your desktop
on your computer, open up cmd and type
cd desktop
cd foldername (the folder that has fastboot.exe)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
reboot into recovery
flash CM10, flash gapps, reboot
I see. The problem is that I seem to be unable to mount my phone and sd card through recovery.
Trying to push the zips using adb using './adb push cm10.zip/sdcard' but when I enter this command in terminal it seems to just reload adb, and not push the file.

I think you are typing the command wrong
./adb push file /destination
or ./adb push cm10.zip /mnt/sdcard
./adb push cm10.zip /sdcard
whatever the mount point is for the sdcard

does ./adb devices return your phone as connected?
Well, now it doesn't. Instead of reloading the adb dialogue now, when I try the push command it says device not found. Just came out of nowhere. How do I make it recognize the phone again?
Thanks for bearing with me here. I think I'm really close.

I'm not familiar with OS X and android, are there any specific drivers you may need to install?
Are you in your bootloader or recovery?
All necessary drivers were installed. The device was being recognized before, but for some reason isn't now. I'm stuck on the "This build is for development purposes only" screen now since I can't get into recovery or bootloader using adb now since the device isn't recognized...
Ok, I'm connected again somehow. Now just trying to figure out this pushing issue. Entered this command './adb push /android/cm10.zip /sdcard and it looked like it was working then said "failed to copy to /sdcard"

Successfully pushed the files. Of course, I've hit another problem. Trying to install the ROM through TWRP and it's failing. Same with Gapps. I'm seeing "unable to mount /sdcard" and unable to mount storage. I've already cleared cache, wiped system, factory reset/

[Q] ADB sideload fails?

I recently rooted and installed Cyanogenmod 11(nightly) on my ls970. CM11 was a little glitchy so I decided to downgrade to CM 10.2... but my dumb*ss forgot to wipe CM 11 before I installed 10.2. needless to say it didn't work. I then did a full wipe(the backup I created didn't work) with TWRP and then tried to sideload Cyangogenmod 10.2.. the sideload fails.. so I thought it was an issue with the ROM..So I got the stock ROM from Google and tried to sideload that. The sideload always starts (on both ROMs) but always ends up failing in the end.. Any help would be appreciated.
I also tried to install stock rom via lgnpst but it does not recognize the phone. And all drivers are installed

Download the stock kernel zip from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319202404 and place it in the fastboot folder. Then reboot in recovery and choose adb sideload. Open cmd and type : adb sideload namekernel.zip and press enter and that should do it, then reboot.

Hello,
When the phone is in recovery mode, the file explorer won't show up with your nexus files... The fact that a sound is coming proves that the phone is being detected...
If you have setup a working adb environment you can follow what @gee2012 has said and sideload the kernel and flash it... If you haven't then download the android sdk and make sure you have downloaded the usb_driver package as well...

First, don't yet think your phone it's bricked. The actual solution is to get the proper driver on the computer. Remember that nexus 5 does not have Sdcard and there's not way to mount to the computer via recovery. Only ADB PUSH and ADB SIDELOAD will put a Rom into your phone.
You have to check on device manager to see the status of the driver. if t shows as Nexus 5, you will have to update the driver to and adb compatible one. If it says ADB........ then, you are good to go
EDIT: @vin4yak, one day I'll go to ninja school too
1.) If your device is actually bricked then a USB cable will do you absolutely no good. Fixing a "bricked" device is something that will need to be JTAG'd for it to work again. I think you might be mistaken about what a bricked device is. Its pretty hard to brick a nexus device so I highly doubt you're device is bricked.
2.) You have to get into fastboot mode. Just search for how to do so. Then you can flash the stock img's through fastboot and you'll be back in business. I have no clue about what drivers you'll need for your setup as I haven't run windows in 9 years or so. Just get the drivers, fastboot, and get your nexus back.
Why don't you just flash a boot.img from the stock rom? Or going back to stock?
You cannot mount sdcard to the pc in recovery. You have to use adb push or adb sideload.
To make adb work in recovery you need naked usb drivers 0.73.
Then you can adb sideload a rom, or push a rom to /sdcard.
Anyway download my attachment, put your phone to fastboot mode and double click on flash.bat then report me back
Check out this thread. If you can boot into recovery, then you should be able to boot into fastboot and restore your N5 back to stock.

Why don't you just flash it with fasboot?

there you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269
install adb+fastboot,
while are in the bootloader you are able to flash a recovery like clockworkmode, then reboot into recovery.
if you got the correct driver you should be able to connect to your moto g while in recoery with adb.
then you are able to push, adb push *.zip /directory, or adb sideload *anyrom*. (dont forget to use install zip/use sideload..)
enjoy.
