[Q] Nexus 5 bricked and USB cable not working - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bricked my Nexus 5 by installing the kernal from touchcontrol.
I can get into recovery mode.
I can not mount the USB storage or access any of my phones files
I've tried installing ADB drivers but that didn't help.
Anyone know what I should do to fix this?

Download the stock kernel zip from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23269279319202404 and place it in the fastboot folder. Then reboot in recovery and choose adb sideload. Open cmd and type : adb sideload namekernel.zip and press enter and that should do it, then reboot.

Is that a type of program? USB isn't working on my phone as even though it makes the connecting sound when I plug it in it's not appearing on the explorer

Sorry, you`re right. Well without usb you can`t do anything. Have you made a nandroid backup to restore in recovery?

Well then there is nothing i can tell that can help you mate, good luck

Hello,
When the phone is in recovery mode, the file explorer won't show up with your nexus files... The fact that a sound is coming proves that the phone is being detected...
If you have setup a working adb environment you can follow what @gee2012 has said and sideload the kernel and flash it... If you haven't then download the android sdk and make sure you have downloaded the usb_driver package as well...

First, don't yet think your phone it's bricked. The actual solution is to get the proper driver on the computer. Remember that nexus 5 does not have Sdcard and there's not way to mount to the computer via recovery. Only ADB PUSH and ADB SIDELOAD will put a Rom into your phone.
You have to check on device manager to see the status of the driver. if t shows as Nexus 5, you will have to update the driver to and adb compatible one. If it says ADB........ then, you are good to go
EDIT: @vin4yak, one day I'll go to ninja school too

1.) If your device is actually bricked then a USB cable will do you absolutely no good. Fixing a "bricked" device is something that will need to be JTAG'd for it to work again. I think you might be mistaken about what a bricked device is. Its pretty hard to brick a nexus device so I highly doubt you're device is bricked.
2.) You have to get into fastboot mode. Just search for how to do so. Then you can flash the stock img's through fastboot and you'll be back in business. I have no clue about what drivers you'll need for your setup as I haven't run windows in 9 years or so. Just get the drivers, fastboot, and get your nexus back.

Why don't you just flash a boot.img from the stock rom? Or going back to stock?
You cannot mount sdcard to the pc in recovery. You have to use adb push or adb sideload.
To make adb work in recovery you need naked usb drivers 0.73.
Then you can adb sideload a rom, or push a rom to /sdcard.
Anyway download my attachment, put your phone to fastboot mode and double click on flash.bat then report me back

Check out this thread. If you can boot into recovery, then you should be able to boot into fastboot and restore your N5 back to stock.

Nexus 5 stuck on boot up screen

I have a Nexus 5 that is on Cyanogenmod11, and I tried to autoflash franco kernel to make my battery last longer. I just found out that cm11 is not compatible with franco kernal, and my Nexus 5 is stuck on a screen with the Google logo, and a unlocked little icon at the bottom. I can get into bootloader, and then get into CWM mode. Help, I just want to get back into c11. I don't need my data backed up or anything, I don't want to try flashing granco kernel again or something. HELP. Please use baby terms because I do not understand anything. Walk me through everything in detail please, and explain some terms that I probably won't know.
Thanks

Thank you, I read online and it told me to do the exact same thing. I downloaded the 2 packages, and then i plugged my usb in to the computer and nexus 5, but the computer did NOT recognize my Nexus 5. Is it because it doesn't recognize my Nexus 5 because it is in bootloader mode?
Thanks

bootloader is for fastboot, not adb. but your computer should still see your phone. boot into recovery to use adb. why not keep a copy of your current rom in your storage just in case? or even a nandroid backup just in case? not pointed directly at you.. but when will people ever learn?

Go to CWM and connect ur phone to PC, then choose Mount and Storage>Mount USB Storage. Your phone will be mounted on PC. Then copy the CM11 zip and Gapps to phone SD and flash them. Flashing Gapps is not necessary though IMO.

I got my phone into bootloader, than selected recovery mode. It says ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.4.5 at the top, and a bunch of options below. I plugged in my USB, and it made the noise that indicates that it is connected, but it does not show me the internal storage of my Nexus 5. What am I doing wrong?

it wont. you need to use adb to move whatever files you want to your phone. it wont show you whats already there. for that, you can use your recovery to see whats zip files are in your storage(in twrp you can also look what other files are there, not sure of cwm recovery.

adb push them to your phone(while you are in recovery), then flash them in your recovery. dont worry about wiping anything, just flash them(dirty, without wiping, so you dont lose any data).

one post says you have adb installed, the other says you have it downloaded.. which one, lol?
if its installed, all you have to do is adb push the files to your phone. when ypu push them, be sire to write the exact name of the files when you push them.
first, make sure adb sees your device when its plugged in via usb, type.. adb devices
2nd, push your files.. adb push cyanogenmodromfilename.zip and then adb push gapps.zip

If you are able to go to recovery(which you should be able to do), download any custom ROM of your choice like PA, CM, SLIM etc.. flash that rom by following the Installation instructions in the thread. YOu should be able to get the phone back to normal. And if you want the stock ROM, then download the stock files and flash it, you might loose custom recovery, then follow the same things you did to get TWRP in the first place.

I would if I could. The problem is I formatted the whole phone which included the internal storage too. My CM Rom is in the internal storage and it's already deleted. I tried to connect my phone to the pc so that I could transfer a rom into it but failed cause my pc won't recognized my phone as the media transfer devices. It's only recognized my phone as fastboot falcon s. I've installed Motorola Device Manger but it's also failed. I also tried to install using adb sideload but I got device not found error and my phone doesn't listed in the device attached after I typed 'adb devices'. For the OTG and memory card reader method I haven't try yet because I don't have any of it.

What does it say when you try
Code:
adb devices
or
when you reboot to bootloader with phone connected and type
Code:
fastboot devices
If it shows a device for fastboot devices then follow this to flash back to stock. Make sure you download the right stock firmware for your phone.

I've followed all the instructions but my phone still not rebooting. When I try to reboot it, it only show me the warning of unlocked bootloader screen, black screen, warning of unlocked bootloader screen then dead android screen. What should I do now?
It means your phone is in fastboot mode and recognised by your PC. Next you'll have to "fastboot flash" the necessary files to install a recovery and a system, and you should be good to go.
Few weeks back I ****ed up soft bricked my phone had kindda same issue when I switch my phone on I get a dead android logo. Gave to the service center in India and got a replacement a new xt1033

K there's a resolve for this...Provided that you haven't ****ed up your phone by making it hard bricked...
1 - Get a freaking rom and sideload it through TWRP to boot into system...
+ Download a ROM
+ Put it in the same folder as ADB and Fastboot and rename it to something easier that you can type exactly (ex: 1.zip, backup.zip...)
+ Shift + Right Click at a blank field in the window
+ Choose Open Command....
+ On TWRP, go to Advanced => Sideload => Tick the 2 boxes => Swipe to start sideloading
+ Type in adb sideload <yourzipname>.zip on the cmd (on your computer)
+ Wait for the process to finish, then you now have a working phone...
2 - Follow this guide using the proper firmwares that match your original one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219

Your PC will not recognize it as media transfer / storage while you are in bootloader / fastboot mode, its perfectly normal. When you type fastboot devices it should show you a number which means it working as intended. This is an old thread but it shows how to transfer your ROM to sdcard via adb push command. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929

The output of the "fastboot devices" command clearly shows your phone is recognised by your PC. As I said all you need to do now is use the correct "fastboot flash" commands to restore recovery and system. Tutorials can be found in this forum.

USB Storage mounting error

I can't mount the usb storage so i can put a rom on it from a computer. It says it's unable to find storage partition to mount to usb. I have no OS on there so I can't boot to anything. All I have is a recovery.
Why don't you just flash it with fasboot?

there you go:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269
install adb+fastboot,
while are in the bootloader you are able to flash a recovery like clockworkmode, then reboot into recovery.
if you got the correct driver you should be able to connect to your moto g while in recoery with adb.
then you are able to push, adb push *.zip /directory, or adb sideload *anyrom*. (dont forget to use install zip/use sideload..)
enjoy.

Bricked Device Help

Hello, my OPO device was bricked after I accidentally wiped the internal memory and it has no rom installed either. However, I have access to the fastboot mode and also TWRP. I've tried to use adb push to put in a rom but it says device not found when I try. Also while connected to my computer, the device doesn't show up, but in device manager it will show up as just "One".
When typing adb devices, nothing shows up, when typing fastboot devices my phone's ID will show with fastboot to the right.

You can do a couple things:
1. Flash COS12.1 from here via instructions in the linked thread
2. Download TWRP and flash it via fastboot commands, reboot to recovery and transfer a nightly and gapps and flash
You are not bricked at all, last time I managed to brick my phone the screen was black no matter what I did, you can easily get back from fastboot

Twrp also has USB-OTG function .. Even if you don't have any ROM on phone .. You can download a rom to a usb pendrive and connect it to phone twrp will recognize the USB pendrice and then can install rom from that ..

"The system has been destroyed" Poco X3 NFC

So I was just messing around with my phone and somehow "destroyed" it. Is it possible to somehow flash it?

Don't worry dude. You can still take your phone to fastboot mode. Download a FASTBOOT rom (*.gz or *.tgz) from mifirm.net then flash it via mi-flash (download from mi-globe). Follow the instructions on mifirm.net

Ok I understand that and I've downloaded the ROM but there is this sentence "1. If Fastboot firmware. The ext. must be tgz. If not. Rename it from .gz to .tgz. Extract it by WinRAR" and also these sentences "ZIP. ZIP ROM using Update function in System or TWRP EU. EU ROM flash using TWRP".
I am just completely lost
To be simple : your flash went wrong probably with a bad rom download or a bad flash method.
If I were you I'd reread the post on installing Xiaomi.eu rom and redownload the whole.
Install OrangeFox recovery with the corresponding thread in the forum and ask if you're still lost
By the way, how did you flash that ROM?

Well I started on this site https://magiskmanager.com/#How_to_I...Version_220_on_Android_Custom_Recovery_Option and downloaded the stuff that the site said was needed
And which recovery are you using ?
You should be able to reflash stock and recover your phone using the MiFlash tool.
Download fastboot ROM here, and MiFlash tool here.
And also the problem is, that my phone (Poco X3 NFC) isn't being shown in the MiFlash software. I can access the fastboot screen on my phone and yet it still won't show up
Adb drivers are installed ?

But I am pretty sure I tried to install TWRP Recovery
Mate that's just caused by something going wrong. The only times I get that message is the times I have tried to flash a GSI.
I don't know if you can with this unit?
I've fixed that about 5 times with miflash or miflashpro.
Do you have miflash?
It forces a reformat of Miui recovery rom an then you can start again. Just pay close attention to the bottom right hand corner an make sure it is off default. Default is 'relock bootloader'.

The problem is that my computer can't find my phone. Nothing happens when I plug in the USB-C Cable. It doesn't work on the Fastboot screen nor does it work on "the System has been destroyed" screen. I am pretty sure I downloaded the neeeden drivers. And also, the phone was being found/recognized in the working state.
You need to extract then extract again. You double extract with a fastboot image. Then in miflash you find where you extracted that image to. Then hit refresh in miflash an your device should show in miflash. Miflash can be a tricky beast till you have practiced using it a few times
Hi. If you haven't fixed it yet you can try this: Download stock ROM from here (make sure it's the right one for your device!), choose Recovery ROM download link. Put it in your ADB folder. Do the same with recovery. Download this version of recovery as well. Enter fastboot mode on your device and connect it to your PC. Make sure it's detected. If not, try a different USB port on your computer. Open ADB using Open CMD.bat file in ADB folder.
Type in:
fastboot flash recovery OrangeFox-R11.0_6_Alpha-Unofficial-surya.img (hit Enter)
Type in:
fastboot reboot recovery
You should now be able to access your device internal storage from your PC. Copy the downloaded ROM file and OrangeFox-R11-Unofficial-Beta-surya-10-01.zip to your phone (put them in "Download" folder so they're easy to find).
Using Orange Fox recovery file manager find OrangeFox-R11-Unofficial-Beta-surya-10-01.zip and flash it then REBOOT TO RECOVERY.
Using Orange Fox recovery file manager find your ROM file and flash it. Do not reboot! Hit BACK and choose WIPE in Orange Fox menu (Trashcan icon, second from the right) and switch to Format Data at the top. Read the instructions and follow them by typing YES. Reboot to system. You should now have a working device with a clean stock ROM and a custom recovery installed and keep messing around with it

Just two more question.
Where does one get the ADB folder? I may have downloaded a few but I don't know if those were good/correct for my device.
And what can I do when the device is not being detected by my computer? Like should I download and install some new drivers?
But can you reach the fastboot splash in your phone?
