In the future it will be possible.

It would be quicker to post a sticky about the things we currently cannot do with the M8.

Thanks for the responses. I like the phone but hate all the extra crap they put on it. I want it to be stock so I can decide what to install.

Not in the near future... A lot needs to happen to make this possible

There is no timeline to be put on this. It will happen as soon as a way is found. the M7 was released end of August, and S-OFF wasn't achieved until right around October. It may be soon, it may take months. Its up to how well the community supports the dev's along with a bit of luck.

Does anyone know if there is a way to make just the soft keys appear like stock/nexus keys, softkeyz currently is not compatible but does gravity box or any app out there work for what I'm trying to do any help would be really appreciated.

Our implementation of it couldn't. However I know that the iPhone can and I believe that our touchscreen is capable, but even with that modified java stack we're only getting two points of information from the driver.
All this will take time but i think will be possible,i am waiting for the multi-touch to get really going such as apps, maps etc.... having the function. We still don't have a full working cupcake or a market thats not BETA cause the market was suppose to get an update a while back. They said flash is coming? when who knows and jan 1 apps could sold where are those?. The problem is to much at one time and nothing is getting done. Only thing really getting done is the stuff that the fans like all of us are doing. :::::::::::::

You simply need to edit your build.prop and add the line qemu.hw.mainkeys=0. You can use any good editor in Android to do that, or Build.prop Editor.

You can also go one step or two further by disabling the backlight on the keys at the bottom AND even disabling them completely (nothing happens when pressed).
Disabling the lights will need a custom kernel however.
How can I disable the keys completly? I'm on cm 10.1.

Once again, for them not to light up, it's necessary you have a kernel that supports BLD.

I'm looking for an easy way to do this, maybe i'll flash the simple kernel for this purpose.
I'm doing this cause my softkeys are not properly functioning, most of the time there are only 2 of 4 visible, and my warranty is expired.
The navigation bar can be a good alternative i think!!

Not a big fan myself, the Nexus S is rather "small" for today's standards and the navigation bar takes quite a bit of estate. But working around your problem without wanting to physically repair it, I believe that works.

Unfortunately i have to agree, i don't like that solution too, cause the screen gets smaller than it's real size.
But to be honest i do prefer to apply a "patch" like this more than paying half the value of a 3 years old device to repair it...
I'll also try to flash a kernel with the bln mod and see if i can get used to use the device with no navbar and no softkeys light.
Thanks for your help!! :good:
Searching on the forum i found that should also be possible to decrease the navbar height!!
it would be great, but i saw the procedure, and i'll never be able to do it ... :S

[Q] How can I shrink my display?

Hello
Is there any magical way to take a 5" phone (for example) and make it display only as a 4" (or smaller)? So it will be more easily handled with one hand?
My HTC Desire S is dying, and I realize that all the reasonable smartphones are at least 4.3" which is too big for me. So if I can make the HTC One act like a 3.7" smartphone (as seen in the lame illustration I've attached) I'd be veerryy happy!!
Do you know An app? a launcher? Some ROM with these kind of display tweaks?
Tnx
There are some xposed modules that can give you this. I believe they are called one handed mode or something around that.
I would check but I don't have xposed installed atm
Frameworks ???

Xposed works for most devices and does require root. I wouldn't know whether it works for your device or not. I usually make a nandroid backup in a custom recovery before I try installing xposed.
I am willing to assist you in any way, just let me know if you need anything.

You could get the xperia z3 compact. It has the same exact specs of the full 5.2 inch Z3, but it has a 4.6 screen.
Don't know if that helps, but they are the only ones making smaller phones without cutting corners on the specs. (Only thing is it goes from a 1080p screen to a 720p, but in all honesty I use a 4.7 inch 720p screen on my optimus G and it looks just fine. I don't really see that as cutting corners. 720p would save you battery too.)

I'm afraid even 4.6 is much too much for me. I guess I will just look for the phone with the beat battery life (at a reasonable size that can fit my pocket), and try to shrink the display. I a late-night web digging, I found this:

It will require root and xposed framework, but it will give some solution....

Some questions before buying..

Hi guys!
Im wondering about a few things before I decide if im gonna retire my LGG4 for this great looking Honor 8.
Is it possible to add more softkeys? Like for pulling down the notifications!?
Is there any way to active double-tap to wake up?
If I wish, can I change the DPI to my needs?
Which xposed modules are confirmed working? And how good is the community development for this phone?
How does Huawei treat its customers? Are they fast and frequent with new updates and such?
Last but not least, any problems with bluetooth, LTE or wifi here in Europe and especially Sweden? =)
Many thanks in advance for your help guys!

1. Yes, you can add a softkey to pull down the notification drawer.
2. Not yet.
3. Yes, but you'll need to root and install BuildProp Editor.
I don't know anything else about the rest of your questions.

The Customers are treated very well by Honor. I think it also depends on your country.
As for as India is concerned, I still get calls for updating New OS and their feedback after 1.5 years of buying my Honor 7.
Thanks for your replies guys. I might just have to buy this little puppy =) Too bad the deliverydate is 3-4 weeks on my supplier =/

You can't add more soft keys. That requires modding and there are a couple Xposed modules that can do the job for you. However, there is an option in Stock ROM to add a soft key for pulling down the notifications bar so you'll achieve that.

Available on most of the Huawei and Honor devices. The feature is always present in kernel but sometimes disabled in stock ROM. A simple build.prop and local.prop edit can enable this option if it's hidden or not present.

I guess that's already answered. You can use 'adb' to achieve it without root and it's permanent.

All modules that don't modify the UI largely will work without problems. However modules like Gravity Box, Android Nify and such modules that were designed keeping AOSP in mind will not work. However modules that modify the Status bar icons or Navigation bar buttons will work great but they do tend to break after every EMUI update. However most modules like Greenify, Force Doze, MinMinGuard and etc. will work without problems. Rule of thumb, modules that don't change the UI largely will work without problems.

No idea about their customer service but the updates are fast. However don't expect latest security patches to be pushed to your device every month.

Huawei devices are regional based and hence the frequencies are supported keeping the region it's released to in mind. However, devices are global so the chances of problems here are less.

Lets discuss what we can do with our rooted V20!

Hey guys,
Its been a while since I rooted my phone (I've been using Samsung phones with locked bootloader) and it sure feels good to be back!
Now, I've been out of the loop for so long that I don't know what I should do next with my rooted V20!
I would love to have you guys come in here and discuss how we can make our V20 even better!
Thing's I've done so far.
Install Adaway
Remove Bloatware using titanium backup (is there better way to remove bloatware beside titanium backup?)
So far I removed all the TMobile apps, is there anything else I should remove that will improve the battery life?
Thanks and lets get this thread going! :good:

I hear ya, I was on a S7 Edge and a S6 before that. It has been a while. With that being said, LG stuff can mostly go....unless you use it. It doesn't seem to be too bad, so you might be able to leave them. Download Better Battery Stats and see what is causing any wakelocks that can be prevented.
Has anyone managed to get rid of Lookout? I hate that thing and want it gone.

Might want to FREEZE apps instead of uninstalling until a viable stock restore is available
Adblocking for sure. Should help improve battery life a hair by not downloading data for ads and processing them to be shown.

From what I've read, TWRP isn't doing proper nandroids, and there isn't a stock image to flash. At the risk of sounding "elitist," I'd recommend going slow.

I know what's in the root thread in the development section.
Is this what you're looking for?
The problems with the .tot files in a nutshell.
I'm not a dev. I can bearly muddle my way around ADB commands. I know what I know from watching the struggles in the root thread. Yeah, there's root and little else. The process doesn't seem quite ready for prime time which of course hasn't stopped the root commandos.
I CAN CONTROL THE WORLD WITH ROOT! LOL . No but really, what can't you do with root? you can do everything as long as the phone doesnt required to implement any new hardware within the phone... I like my Adaway, and greenify, and removes or freeze apps i dont like nor need, I like my pie bar for faster shortcuts (sure, the phone itself has the second screen to put up to 5 apps, but the pie bar give you a lot more options so i will have the 5 on the second screen plus the many mores in the pie bar which is a fast process too, maybe even faster than the second screen), i also like my xposed for every module i desire, AND MY BELOVED TITANIUM BACKUP! and many many more things
The one thing I hope and pray to see come from this newly acquired root is a camera mod that will allow 16MP in full 16:9. Please pull through devs! I would donate for that :highfive:

That's likely because the sensor isn't 16:9 shaped, it's 4:3. You have to crop the sensor to get 16:9.
